The story

On October 20, Soshina of the comedy duo Shimofuri Myojo announced during his own YouTube livestream that “Tsukkomi Star” will air on Fuji TV, crossing from New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2026, into the new year. He revealed he’d originally planned to announce this at the end of November, and on 5ch the prevailing theory was that he moved the announcement up because a sports tabloid was about to scoop the story first. Opinions on the thread were also split over predictions for each network’s New Year’s Eve lineup and over how past episodes of “Tsukkomi Star” had been received.

A live broadcast's probably gonna turn into a disorganized mess ("gdgd," slang for sloppy/chaotic)
But live is more fun that way anyway

Is this the story a sports tabloid was about to scoop?

Sponichi: "Guess we'll pull the article then" (Sponichi = Sports Nippon tabloid)

Meddling with a newspaper's editorial rights is actually illegal, you know

I watched the episode Hinohara won, and it just looked like favoritism based on their existing relationship

Here's probably the New Year's Eve lineup:
NTV: Guru Nai Gochi finale
TV Asahi: Zawatsuku Oomisoka
TBS: New Year's Eve All-Star Sports Festival
TV Tokyo: Year-End Japanese Song Special → Solitary Gourmet
Fuji: Dokkiri GP → Tsukkomi Star

No NHK on that list

Seriously nothing worth watching, lol
TV isn't even worth keeping around anymore

It was probably one of those "Netflix snatched STARTO Entertainment's countdown concert (the ex-Johnny's talent agency's big New Year's Eve show), and THIS is what they're left airing instead? lol" articles
15AnonymousOct 21, 2026 00:24
This isn't something to do at year-end
Just quietly air it on a weekday late at night
16AnonymousOct 21, 2026 00:24
So basically, since Sponichi wouldn't pull the article, he rushed to announce it himself?
17AnonymousOct 21, 2026 00:25
They're airing that godawful flop again? Are they stupid — oh wait, it's Fuji TV, so yeah, stupid
18AnonymousOct 21, 2026 00:26
Now that Tsukkomi Star has claimed New Year's Eve, Arioshi no Kabe and Meitantei Tsuda won't air that night — some other comedy show will end up scheduled against it, and it's bound to turn into a fight over which comedians go where

Mimura's completely stopped doing his sexual-harassment bits
21AnonymousOct 21, 2026 00:27
My prediction for NTV is the Gochi finale
New Year's Eve falls on a Thursday, and Guru Nai airs Thursdays too, so there's a good chance Gochi gets the slot

Fuji's New Year's Eve special, probably pulling around a 1.2% rating

Fuji's given up on New Year's Eve ages ago, so who cares either way

NTV's the same way — though I did think they might bring back Ultra Quiz for New Year's Eve
27AnonymousOct 21, 2026 00:31
Way back there was a stretch where they ran combat sports on New Year's Eve night — that was the worst

I wonder if Hamada's New Year's show with the tsukkomi comedians is happening
30AnonymousOct 21, 2026 00:33
TBS should air Meitantei Tsuda on New Year's Eve

Re: #30
Doubt it — I bet December's Suiyoubi no Downtown runs four straight weeks instead
31AnonymousOct 21, 2026 00:33
A classic low-ratings gamble, pure Fuji TV style
There's just no demand for Shimofuri Myojo anyway
35AnonymousOct 21, 2026 00:35
I'll just drink and watch U-NEXT instead
38AnonymousOct 21, 2026 00:36
Soshina's impressive, being this age in this era
40AnonymousOct 21, 2026 00:39
They should just run an anime marathon with Demon Slayer and Dragon Ball

Re: #40
Quite a while back they aired a One Piece movie on New Year's Eve and it bombed hard

Still better than this, though — last year it was 2%
48AnonymousOct 21, 2026 00:44
Re: #44
What'd they air last year?
45AnonymousOct 21, 2026 00:42
Re: #23
It's not just Soshina — whenever anyone has an announcement, they want to control the timing themselves, through a press conference or livestream
Getting scooped before that happens is a huge step down as a publicity strategy
If he'd announced a year-end broadcast way ahead of time, the buzz would've died out by the time it aired
It'd be like announcing the Kohaku Uta Gassen lineup way too early, right?
46AnonymousOct 21, 2026 00:43
Re: #1
Fuji would get better ratings just looping reruns of Drifters Daibakushou at this point
50AnonymousOct 21, 2026 00:45
On New Year's Eve I just watch the Game Center CX marathon on Fuji TV ONE
55AnonymousOct 21, 2026 00:51
Is this the news Soshina was supposedly "warning" Sponichi about?
59AnonymousOct 21, 2026 00:55
Re: #55
No — that article was updated on the 20th, so it's a different story
66AnonymousOct 21, 2026 01:09
Like, say, if they did the terrestrial TV premiere of the second Demon Slayer movie on New Year's Eve, that'd actually be competitive — why don't they ever do stuff like that?
70AnonymousOct 21, 2026 01:10
Re: #66
Probably because it wouldn't pull good numbers
They'd get better ratings airing it on a different day

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

“Tsukkomi Star” is a Fuji TV special centered on Shimofuri Myojo’s Soshina, in which performers compete on their skill at “tsukkomi” (the comedic straight-man retort). Opinions on past broadcasts remain split within the thread. Regarding this announcement, speculation spread on the thread that he rushed to reveal it via YouTube livestream because a sports tabloid was about to publish an article first — but this theory never rises above hearsay, and there has been no official explanation from Soshina himself or the show’s production side. It was also pointed out that this is a separate matter, timing-wise, from another topic about Soshina supposedly “warning” Sponichi, though the thread never fully sorted the two apart and they remained tangled together. New Year’s Eve specials are a ratings battleground for every network, and prediction wars based on past programming track records were also one of the thread’s central themes.
