  • How Far Should You Go With Motorcycle Safety Gear? 5ch: ‘I Want to Value My Life for My Family’s Sake’

A thread on 5ch’s Newsspeed VIP board claimed that riders who always choose a full-face helmet, no matter the situation, have been “too influenced by things they’ve read online.” The thread’s creator argued that switching helmet types based on use case is “normal,” and questioned whether always going full-face reflects a kind of ideology — but most replies pushed back hard. Commenters pointed out that choosing a full-face helmet for safety and forcing that choice on others are two different things, with comparisons to professional riders like mail carriers and traffic police also cropping up. In the end, the discussion never quite converged, running on in parallel tracks.

Normally you switch gear depending on what you're riding for, you know.
    2AnonymousSep 13, 2026 18:39
The reason to wear a full-face is so your family can still see your face one last time if you die.

    Re: #2
For touring, I mainly go full-face for comfort when I'm on highways and bypasses too.
    6AnonymousSep 13, 2026 18:54
Wait, did you make this thread now because you were still salty about the daytime thread?
    7AnonymousSep 13, 2026 18:57
    Re: #6
The daytime thread had already died, that's why.
I don't really get the "salty" framing, but it made me realize there are people out there who only know things from what they've read online and don't seem to see reality clearly.
    8AnonymousSep 13, 2026 18:58
It's not about being "influenced by the internet" —
I wear a full-face because it's simply the safest option.
    9AnonymousSep 13, 2026 19:02
    Re: #8
I'm not saying choosing a full-face itself is being influenced by the internet.

    So what's your actual point?
    11AnonymousSep 13, 2026 19:04
    Re: #10
My point is that it's normal to switch gear depending on the bike, destination, and purpose.
Also, if you're that obsessed with safety, just get off two wheels altogether.
    12AnonymousSep 13, 2026 19:07
    Re: #11
    I don't really get that.
Whether it's a moped or a big bike,
whether I'm going somewhere close or far,
I think the risk is about the same once you're on public roads.
That's why I go full-face no matter where I'm headed.
You seem to have the wrong idea — riding isn't something only reckless people who ignore safety do.
I take safety seriously because I want to keep enjoying it for a long time.
    Is something wrong with that?
    14AnonymousSep 13, 2026 19:09
    Re: #12
Do you actually understand that full-face helmets have downsides of their own?
They're heavy, not great for frequent on-and-off, and so on.
Look at mail carriers — none of them wear full-face helmets, right?
    16AnonymousSep 13, 2026 19:11
    Re: #14
Being heavy and a hassle to take on and off — that's the "danger" of a full-face?
Both traffic police and mail carriers would probably wear full-face too
if they didn't need to interact with the public.
It's their job, so it can't be helped.
    23AnonymousSep 13, 2026 19:35
Well, I don't really care what other people do.
If you're fine wearing a half helmet and not regretting it even if you crash and wreck your face, that's your call.
Personally I hate that idea, so I wear full-face — and if it's too hot, I just take the car.
    26AnonymousSep 13, 2026 19:38
    Re: #23
"I don't care what other people do," "you worry too much about others" —

funny how the people who post replies like that tend to keep arguing purely from their own standard anyway.

I've noticed that pattern for a while now, too.
    25AnonymousSep 13, 2026 19:38
Comments like "riding is dangerous anyway, so
    safety gear doesn't really matter"

    are just plain stupid.

    Re: #59
Wearing a full-face helmet ≠ excessive safety precaution.

I can kind of get the argument that wearing full-face just to pop into a supermarket or convenience store is overkill, but
comparing it to wearing a bulletproof vest on a bicycle → that level of "excessive"
    makes no sense to me.
Personally, I think of it like shoes.
    97AnonymousSep 13, 2026 20:28
A comment like Re: #94 is exactly what I meant
in Re: #59, by the way.
    65AnonymousSep 13, 2026 20:06
    Re: #63
I never said it was excessive.
The main point is about the mindset that you "must" do it that way.
    75AnonymousSep 13, 2026 20:12
    Re: #65
Sorry, I genuinely don't understand what you're saying.
I don't get what this "mindset" thing you're talking about even is.
Switching helmets by use case and always going full-face for everything aren't mutually exclusive, you know?
It's weird that you're stubbornly treating "always full-face" as excessive.

You claim you never said "excessive," but that's exactly what your argument amounts to.
Lines like "if you value safety that much, don't ride," "just take a car instead," or "well, if you wore full-face like a race car driver all the time…" are all completely off base.
    86AnonymousSep 13, 2026 20:21
    Re: #65
If there were some trend saying "everyone must wear full-face," then sure, "I'll do what I want" would be a fair response.

But here someone's simply decided to wear full-face themselves, and outsiders are butting in with a bunch of noise about it.
    94AnonymousSep 13, 2026 20:26
I ride because I love bikes, but
I want to value my life as much as possible for my family's sake
so at the very least, I take proper precautions…

This really isn't something outsiders should be lecturing people about.
Everyone can decide their own approach.
Full-face helmets and body armor are perfectly reasonable choices.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

Japan’s Road Traffic Act requires helmets when riding a motorcycle, but the choice between full-face, open-face (“jet”), and modular/flip-up (“system”) helmets is left up to the individual. The point of contention in this thread wasn’t safety itself, but where to draw the line: is always choosing full-face, no matter the situation, behavior shaped by things read online, or simply a consistent safety mindset? The thread’s creator supported switching helmet types by use case, while those pushing back argued that risk doesn’t really change based on distance or destination, so consistent gear makes more sense. Both sides shared the same premise — “it’s for safety” — yet never reached a shared conclusion. What’s easy to miss is that this thread wasn’t really about comparing helmet performance, but a circular argument over the motives and attitudes behind people’s gear choices.

※This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Newsspeed VIP) thread “Isn’t there this type of biker out there who’s like “I’m safety-conscious because I wear full-face 😤” but is clearly way too influenced by stuff they read online?”.

  • Father-in-law ‘sharpens’ Damascus steel knife with a power tool, 5ch: ‘That pattern’s just printed on’

An episode posted on X became a hot topic on 5ch: a poster wrote that his father-in-law, insisting his wife’s beloved Damascus steel knife “wasn’t cutting well, so I had it sharpened,” took it to an acquaintance’s house and ran it through a power tool. Reports that the blade ended up looking chipped and jagged first drew a wave of comments pointing out that the knife probably wasn’t real Damascus steel to begin with — just a knife with the pattern printed on. From there the discussion expanded into a debate over whether a sharpener or a whetstone is the correct way to sharpen a blade, and even into historical arguments about whether samurai sharpened their own swords. What started as a small domestic incident spiraled into a full-blown debate about bladed tools.

    That knife looks filthy now.

    17AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:48
I didn't know what it actually was and was gonna buy one 'cause it's cheap, but I googled it and all the reviews said the sharpness is mediocre, so I passed.
    18AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:49
I cut vegetables with factory machines for a living, and when the blade gets dull, the part-time lady (BBA, slang for an older woman) calls some old guy nearby to sharpen it with an angle grinder. I don't think it's actually getting any sharper, but she seems satisfied with it, so I just leave her to it.
    20AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:51
People used to say Damascus steel and old Japanese swords were impossible to replicate, but materials science has since figured out it's just steel and soft iron imperfectly bonded in many layers at a temperature below melting point. So aside from antique value, there's nothing to be all that impressed by. Obviously modern alloy steel is superior anyway.
    24AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:57
My dad used to play samurai at night sharpening knives on a whetstone too. Not the rhythmic shk-shk-shk sound — just an endless, slow shhh… shhh… The blade ended up chipped like a fine-toothed saw.

    25AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:57
So you'll put up with a dull knife just to keep the pattern intact?
    26AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:58
It doesn't even say the sharpness actually improved, and whatever tool he used, a power tool clearly isn't the right choice anyway.
    27AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:59
There's even a chance he's not someone who cooks at all — he probably just pressed down on it with brute force instead of moving it back and forth, then complained 'this thing's dull!'
    28AnonymousSep 13, 2026 23:03
The moment it's visibly all jagged and gritty like that, there's no way the sharpness improved. He's probably just getting senile.
    29AnonymousSep 13, 2026 23:04
Knives like this are just about showing off the pattern, not about being sharp.
    34AnonymousSep 13, 2026 23:12
    Re: #30
Back when combat was central to daily life, lower-ranked samurai did some of it themselves — you needed 'neba-awase' (a quick touch-up honing before battle) too.

Wait, your father-in-law just took it without asking — are you living with your wife's dad?

Yeah, you clearly don't understand how this works, lol.
    45AnonymousSep 13, 2026 23:23
The fact you can't even respond to 'neba-awase' shows you're just picturing some Edo-era samurai in ceremonial robes holding a legendary sword. They did maintain their own gear — precisely because their lives were on the line.
    47AnonymousSep 13, 2026 23:26
Old man vs. old man, duking it out.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Commercially sold “Damascus knives” are often something quite different from genuine Damascus steel, which gets its wavy pattern from forge-welding many layers of steel and soft iron together. Cheaper products are mostly stainless steel knives whose surface has simply been laser-etched or acid-etched to reproduce the pattern, and many commenters on the thread agreed with the remark that it’s “just printed on.” Meanwhile, the discussion around blade sharpening grew from practical questions — the difference between a household sharpener and a whetstone, and whether it’s appropriate to grind a blade with a power tool (angle grinder) — into a historical debate over whether Japanese swords were handled only by professional sharpeners. No comments cited actual historical sources on this point, and opinions within the thread stayed divided without reaching a conclusion. One point readers can easily get wrong is that the name “Damascus” refers to the pattern, not a guarantee of the steel’s grade — so judging sharpness by price or brand alone would be premature.

*This article is compiled as an excerpt and summary of the 5ch (Hello! Project board) thread “X user: ‘My wife’s beloved Damascus steel knife. My father-in-law apparently had it sharpened, saying it wasn’t cutting well, using a power tool at an acquaintance’s house.’“

  • 5ch Online Drinking Party Thread Buzzes with MBTI Tests and Fan Art

A thread titled ‘Online Drinking Party’ popped up on Japan’s 5ch VIP board, where anonymous posters chatted away while sharing everything from their drink and cigarette brands to MBTI test results and photos of their own fan art and figure photography. The conversation had no fixed theme, ranging freely from guessing each other’s MBTI types to a liquor brand that had reportedly come back into stock after a supply gap, to how rough everyone felt the morning after overdoing it. Opinions on MBTI itself were split, with some calling it ‘fun as a conversation topic’ while others kept their distance, comparing it to ‘blood-type fortune-telling’ or chalking it up to the Barnum effect — reflecting a broader gap in how seriously people take their results.

    Background and Talking Points

MBTI (the 16-type personality test) has become a well-established topic on Japanese online forums in recent years, and this thread naturally fell into a rhythm of posters showing off their results. That said, the test is ultimately just a self-reported questionnaire, not a measure with established psychological validity. The thread captured both skeptical takes — comparing it to ‘blood-type fortune-telling’ or chalking it up to the Barnum effect — and enthusiastic ones calling it ‘a fun conversation topic,’ illustrating how this kind of personality test tends to get consumed online. It’s also worth noting that ‘Online Drinking Party’ threads pop up periodically on 5ch’s VIP board as a kind of recurring tradition, where anonymous posters chat about drinks, hobbies, and their own artwork.

※This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch (VIP) thread “This Is the VIPPER Online Drinking Party Venue.”

  • Welfare Recipient’s ‘Monthly Splurge’ Post Sparks Fraud Accusations

A welfare recipient posted on 5ch about treating themselves to a once-a-month “splurge” at a tiny standing-bar-style eatery. Photos from a two-seat-table joint called Renge Shokudo — showing chili shrimp and a drink — drew warm reactions like “nice one.” But when the poster revealed they also work for Uber Eats, accusations flared up that they might be hiding income to fraudulently collect welfare. The poster explained they report everything to their caseworker every month, but the back-and-forth with skeptics went in circles for a while.

    Background and Key Issues

Under Japan’s welfare system, having income from work doesn’t automatically disqualify someone from benefits. Recipients are required to report their income to a caseworker every month, and their benefit amount is adjusted after a work-income deduction is applied to whatever they report. In other words, working itself isn’t fraud — hiding income or falsifying reports is what counts as fraudulent receipt of benefits. That’s exactly the line the thread argued over: critics insisted that receiving welfare while earning income is a crime, while the poster kept explaining that they report everything to their caseworker every month. The back-and-forth continued in typical 5ch fashion, but without knowing this background — including the fact that the poster became unable to work because of gout — it’s easy to read the thread as simply someone being “sneaky” or “lazy.” In reality, the system is specifically designed to let people earn a small income from work while stabilizing their livelihood, which is the part that’s most often misunderstood.

*This article is compiled from excerpts and a summary of the 5ch (Nanademo Jikkyo G) thread “My Monthly Welfare Splurge lol.”

  • Hanshin loses 5 straight right after championship countdown special — 5ch: ‘Are they the worst team in the Central League?’

A thread went up on 5ch’s “Live Everything General” board about the Hanshin Tigers’ late-season collapse. Right after MBS aired a championship countdown special featuring Yuko Ando on September 13, Hanshin dropped into a 5-game losing streak — and lost again that same day, giving up the go-ahead run in the 11th inning. September has exposed the slump of key hitters, with Morishita batting .208 and Sakamoto a flat .000, and the team’s magic number has barely budged. The thread split between posters saying “Hanshin might genuinely be the weakest team in the Central League” and others countering that “at least their magic number is shrinking — it’s the Giants who are really cornered.”

    Hanshin's September lineup

    1 Chikamoto .250
    2 Nakano .259
    3 Morishita .208
    4 Sato .310
    5 Oyama .321
    6 Takadera .200
    7 Sakamoto .000
    8 Motoyama .158

Everyone acts like he's off-limits for criticism, but I honestly think Morishita's the real culprit here.

Morishita's the type who's just going to get trash-talked no matter what, so it's fine.
What really stings is Sakamoto — his August hot streak is exactly what locked him into the lineup, and then he goes hitless all of September.
    87AnonymousSep 13, 2026 22:06
    Re: #81
To begin with, that magic number was basically built on Sakamoto's lucky hot streak ("kakuhen," pachinko slang for a lucky bonus mode).

Even setting aside Tatsunami's "triple-six" [three straight 6th-place finishes], being a perennial 5th-place team doesn't even help much in the draft, so honestly 5th and 6th aren't that different.
3rd might be out of reach, but just getting to 4th matters — since Hanshin's likely to give up their season-opener hosting rights in two years, landing 4th would lock in the opening-day slot.

Can't score runs, so what do you expect.
This might be a curse on the level of the famous "Hiroshima Moeyu" jinx (a hyped-up Weekly Baseball cover feature that famously preceded a team collapse) — did Weekly Baseball ever run a special on this one?

Background and key points of this discussion

A team’s championship magic number doesn’t move based solely on its own results — it also shifts depending on how the teams below it fare against each other. That’s why the thread spent so much time comparing how fast Hanshin’s and SoftBank’s magic numbers were shrinking: even without a direct win, the number can move based on other teams’ results. What sparked this particular discussion was confusion over that very mechanic — bewilderment that Hanshin seemed to be winning yet not closing the gap — colliding with September’s batting slump (low averages from Morishita, Sakamoto, and others) and runs surrendered in extra innings. It’s also worth noting this isn’t the first time MBS has aired a championship countdown special; past broadcasts have reportedly been followed by team slumps too, and posters seemed to enjoy riffing on that “pattern repeating itself.” The thread’s opinions split roughly into two camps: one holding that Hanshin itself is simply in a slump, and another arguing that the Giants and other rivals are struggling just as much, meaning Hanshin still holds the relative advantage.

  • Hunt for a home within 30 minutes of Akihabara sparks 5ch train-line debate

A poster on a solo relocation assignment, hoping to live within a 30-minute commute of their company’s headquarters near Akihabara (Iwamotocho), turned to 5ch’s Nandemo Jikkyo G board for advice on which train line to settle near. With a budget of around ¥100,000 in rent and a company housing subsidy capped at ¥80,000, commenters floated specific stations like Tsurumi, Kita-Senju, Tsudanuma, and Mizue, comparing commute times and crowding on the Hibiya Line, Tsukuba Express, and Toei Shinjuku Line. The Tozai Line in particular was branded “hell” and “traumatic,” ruling it out for anyone hoping to avoid the morning crush. With some posters even saying they’d rather not live too close to the office, the thread offered a glimpse into the particular housing dilemmas faced by employees on solo relocation assignments.

Go past Kita-Senju to somewhere like Soka on the Tobu through-service, still a 30-minute no-transfer ride, and you should get a bit more room and a nicer environment than within Adachi Ward

If it's ¥100k out of pocket + ¥80k subsidy = OK up to ¥180k, that's very different from ¥20k out of pocket + ¥80k subsidy = OK up to ¥100k
With the former you'd easily find something even inside the Yamanote Line
But going by Re: #33's comment, it sounds like the latter

    If you're getting a housing subsidy, isn't Kita-Senju great?

    Background and key points

The Akihabara/Iwamotocho area is packed with IT company headquarters, and many of these companies offer housing subsidies for employees on solo relocation assignments (typically capped around ¥80,000), which is the assumption behind this whole thread. However, partway through the thread the poster’s own out-of-pocket budget changed (from ¥100,000 to ¥20,000), which dramatically shifted the range of viable options — from Kita-Senju all the way to inside the Yamanote Line — making this a good example of why you need to state your conditions upfront to get useful answers. The Tozai Line’s morning crush is also famous enough to be called “hell,” and dodging it by taking the Hibiya Line or Tsukuba Express instead is shared wisdom among commuters into central Tokyo. The fact that a fair number of posters would rather not live close to the office reflects a dynamic specific to employees on solo relocation: wanting a clean break between work and home life.

  • Inoue Rein’s Muscular Physique Sparks Buzz on 5ch: “Just Make This Woman a National Treasure Already”

A thread went up on 5ch’s Hello! Project board featuring photos of Hello! Project idol Inoue Rein’s muscular physique. Images clearly showing off her biceps and quadriceps drew a wave of astonished comments like “There’s no way you get like this without training” and “That’s athlete-level,” along with praise such as “Just make this woman a national treasure already.” Some pointed out she’d already been muscular back in her Kobushi Factory days, while others compared her build to that of fellow Hello! Project members, and the discussion branched out in all directions.

    Background and Discussion Points

Hello! Project idols are known for sculpting their bodies through daily dance lessons and live performances, and as with the comparisons to “Manakan” and “Ruru” raised in the thread, differences in physique between members are a frequent topic among fans. For Inoue Rein specifically, commenters noted she “was already muscular back in her Kobushi Factory days,” with many viewing her build as a reflection of years of accumulated practice. While this kind of attention to physical traits tends to take the form of praise, taken too far it can easily shade into excessive scrutiny of someone’s appearance, and the original thread did include a few posts with borderline language. In compiling this article, such excessive remarks have been excluded, with the exchange focused mainly on the praise and astonishment.

  • Okinawa Soba → Music Festival → Dog Event: 35-Year-Old’s ‘Solo Sunday’ Sparks Mixed Reactions

On 5ch’s live-commentary board, a 35-year-old thread starter posted a running account of his Sunday: Okinawa soba for lunch, a music festival in the afternoon, and then a meal at a dog-themed event near the festival venue. While some praised him with comments like “sounds like a full life,” other users grilled him about going out alone and being single, and the thread spiraled into his romantic history and body image issues. Reactions to his solo day off were split between sympathy and skepticism.

    Re: #100

There are stalls selling all kinds of stuff for dogs, like food and clothes

    Background and talking points

“Jakusha danshi” (弱者男性, literally “weak man”) is online slang men use to self-describe limited financial means or romantic experience — it is not an official statistical category. The original poster used the term himself while live-narrating his Sunday, and going to a festival or dog event alone is not especially unusual in itself. That said, self-deprecating posts like this tend to draw both casual chit-chat and users eager to pry into someone’s single status or lack of romantic experience, and this thread split along those lines too. It’s worth reading this as light banter based on information the poster volunteered himself, with no more backing than his own self-description as a “weak man.”

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Nandemo Jikkyō G) thread “[Good news] My (35, weak man) Sunday lol.”

  • One Piece Lists Its Total Print Run in Creator’s Bio — 5ch: ‘Going Toe-to-Toe With the Bible’

It’s been noted on 5ch that One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda lists the series’ cumulative print run right in his own profile. Each volume reportedly has an initial print run of around 3 million copies, but some pointed out that POS sales data shows a steady decline in actual sales, splitting opinion in the thread over how to read the gap between print numbers and real sales. The discussion expanded into comparisons with the print runs and volume sales of other titles like Demon Slayer, BLEACH, and Dragon Ball, with posters repeatedly raising the question of how meaningful a simple cumulative-print-run comparison really is.

    Re: #143
If you're gonna call the One Piece anime low quality, doesn't that make the manga itself garbage too, by that logic?

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

In the publishing industry, ‘print run’ refers to the number of copies delivered to distributors and bookstores, a different statistic from ‘actual sales,’ which reflects copies that actually reached readers. Cumulative print-run figures are sometimes published including copies later returned unsold, so the claim that first printings have held around 3 million copies per volume even as POS sales figures keep declining points to a growing gap between these two numbers. In this case, a single line in a profile section sparked a wider discussion comparing print-run rankings and sales with other titles such as Demon Slayer, BLEACH, and Dragon Ball. Whether you judge by cumulative print run, per-volume sales, or POS data changes the picture considerably, and that was the crux of the disagreement in the thread — it’s worth noting that such numbers often get compared without clearly stating their source or the date they were tallied.

  • Where Will Hashisako Rin’s Fans Go Next? 5ch Hello!Project Board Buzzes With Oshi-Switch Predictions

A thread on 5ch’s Hello!Project board is debating where fans of Angerme’s Hashisako Rin will go next. The central question: how many will choose “oshi-sotsu” — quitting fandom altogether — versus switching their support to other Angerme members like Matsumoto, Tamenaga, or Kawana. Posters also pointed to past examples, like fans of former members such as Takeuchi, Sasaki, Jokoryo, and Kawamura drifting to Juice=Juice or Beyooooonds, floating the rule of thumb that female fans tend to move to other groups or drop out entirely, while male fans tend to keep supporting the group itself.

    1AnonymousSep 13, 2026 14:41
Or is it "oshi-sotsu" (quitting fandom) for you?
    3AnonymousSep 13, 2026 14:42
Wait, whose fans moved over to Hashisako in the first place?
    4AnonymousSep 13, 2026 14:42
    Quitting for good.
    Rin-chan was my last oshi.
    6AnonymousSep 13, 2026 14:44
Angerme's new members, Yoshida Hikari-chan and Ohno Airi-chan.
    9AnonymousSep 13, 2026 14:47
Starting fresh by watching over trainee Shii-chan is another option.
    11AnonymousSep 13, 2026 14:47
Within Angerme, I'd guess Kero probably gets the biggest faction, but Hashisako's fans are mostly women who only stan one member, so most will likely just disappear entirely.
    12AnonymousSep 13, 2026 14:48
I wanted to see Hashisako become leader and eat sushi.
    13AnonymousSep 13, 2026 14:51
Fans drift downward in age, so nobody's moving to someone older than Hashisako.
Kawana and Tamenaga will probably vanish within two years too.
Hirayama's unlikely too, given her health issues and she's on the "retire after graduating college" track.
If it stays within Angerme, my bet's on Matsumoto, the frontrunner for next leader.
    14AnonymousSep 13, 2026 14:52
Oden's fanbase (nickname for one member) isn't even that young — it's mainly guys in their 40s.
    15AnonymousSep 13, 2026 14:53
The fans who moved from Takeuchi were probably women.
Where the male fans came from is a mystery though.
    17AnonymousSep 13, 2026 14:57
Hashisako's fanbase is mostly the "worship Hashisako herself" type, so a lot of them will probably just quit being fans.
    21AnonymousSep 13, 2026 15:19
    Re: #17
There's nobody quite like her in Hello!Project right now.
    18AnonymousSep 13, 2026 14:58
Rinexit: the great escape (a pun on "Brexit")
    19AnonymousSep 13, 2026 15:12
Switch your oshi to the Three-Color Dango (Tamenaga, Kawana, Matsumoto)!
They're the junior members who adored Hashisako Rin.
The Three-Color Dango will carry on Hashisako Rin's spirit.
    22AnonymousSep 13, 2026 15:20
Where did Takeuchi, Sasaki, Jokoryo, and Kawamura's fans end up?
I want to make a prediction based on past trends.
    23AnonymousSep 13, 2026 15:23
    Re: #22
    Juice=Juice
    26AnonymousSep 13, 2026 15:28
    Re: #22
Sasaki and Jokoryo went to Juice=Juice.
    No idea about the rest.
    36AnonymousSep 13, 2026 15:46
    Re: #22
Basically none of them switched at all.
    24AnonymousSep 13, 2026 15:25
    Rosy's Yoshida.
But in the end they'll just drift to Juice or Beyo anyway.
    27AnonymousSep 13, 2026 15:28
Switch your oshi to her fellow hometown member, Yonemura Kirara.
    28AnonymousSep 13, 2026 15:31
    Re: #27
I'm a Hashisako fan, but yeah, Kirara's great, I like her.
Still, I think I'm done with Hello!Project for now.
    33AnonymousSep 13, 2026 15:41
When the "where will Kawamura's fans switch to" thread went up, someone said fans who stanned Kawamura wouldn't be able to leave the scene.
    And that's exactly what happened.
They still keep showing up to solo events and shows, sometimes looking like ghosts of their former selves.
    37AnonymousSep 13, 2026 15:52
If Hashisako fans are gonna like anyone else in Hello!Project, wouldn't it be Endo?
    39AnonymousSep 13, 2026 15:56
    Re: #37
    No idea at all.
I've never once seen anyone stan both.
    38AnonymousSep 13, 2026 15:53
    HaroColle makes it pretty clear.
Almost no fans switch oshi because of a graduation.
    It's mostly current-member-to-current-member switching.
    43AnonymousSep 13, 2026 16:02
    Re: #38
Come to think of it, do HaroColle rankings stay up even after you cancel your fan club membership?
I looked at a certain member's ranking and saw a few accounts near the top that looked dormant.
    40AnonymousSep 13, 2026 16:01
The ones who clearly dropped off are the female fans.
The ones dutifully still keeping watch are the middle-aged guy fans.
    41AnonymousSep 13, 2026 16:02
Beyooooonds is where female fans oddly increased.
Quite a few went from Sasaki to Hirai.
    42AnonymousSep 13, 2026 16:02
Middle-aged guy fans can settle into stanning the whole group.
Female fans are more likely to stick with stanning one individual.
    44AnonymousSep 13, 2026 16:03
I wonder how many moved from Angerme to Beyooooonds.
Beyooooonds is doing well lately, so it feels like even more will drift that way.
    45AnonymousSep 13, 2026 16:03
Not that it means much since I only have a few fan friends, but one of them did move to Beyooooonds.
    46AnonymousSep 13, 2026 16:05
Seems like a fair number of Hashisako fans will drift to Beyooooonds.
Looking around, it doesn't feel like many are sticking with Angerme fandom.
If anything, maybe just the 🐸 (frog) crowd.
    47AnonymousSep 13, 2026 16:06
Did Rikako's fans really not move over to Hirayama?
    59AnonymousSep 13, 2026 16:40
    Re: #47
Rikako's fans moved to Yumeriai, and after that moved on to actual boyfriends lol
    48AnonymousSep 13, 2026 16:08
I won't say none moved over, but not as many as you'd think.
I guess in the end it's just painful to keep watching a group after your oshi is gone.
    49AnonymousSep 13, 2026 16:08
Did Sasaki and Hirayama's fanbases even overlap in the first place? I had the impression both had a lot of "intense" fans though.
    50AnonymousSep 13, 2026 16:09
They do share the type who see their oshi as playing the "male role" (a common trope for fans, sometimes called "man-san" in net slang), but otherwise the fanbases don't seem to overlap.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

“Oshi-hen” (switching who you stan) and “oshi-sotsu” (quitting fandom) are terms that come up constantly in Hello!Project fan culture, and what happens to the fans left behind after a member graduates is a recurring topic. The rules of thumb raised in this thread — that “fans drift to younger members but not older ones” or that “male fans tend to support the whole group while female fans tend to stan individuals” — are folk wisdom based purely on individual observation, not on any official statistics or survey, so they should be taken with a grain of salt. It’s also worth noting, as one poster pointed out about Kawamura — where an earlier “who will her fans switch to” thread predicted they “wouldn’t be able to leave the scene,” and that’s exactly what happened — that fans’ behavior after a graduation often continues far longer than they themselves expect. Nothing in the thread confirms Hashisako Rin’s own current activity status; this is all speculation based on how fans are processing the news.
