  • Persona 5: ‘Should newcomers follow walkthrough sites step-by-step?’ — 5channers split

A thread on 5ch’s Hardware & Industry (Geha) board picked up on new players of “Persona 5” following a walkthrough site’s schedule from the very start of the game. The Persona series runs on a calendar system, and since it’s easy to miss out on fully maxing your Confidants (Co-op relationships) in a single playthrough, some pointed out that prioritizing efficiency naturally leads players to mirror a walkthrough’s exact schedule. Opinions split between defenders (“if the player’s having fun, who cares,” “even From Software games have tons of people watching video guides”) and critics (“it’s annoying being forced into do-overs just to satisfy the developers’ own perfectionism,” “if you can’t even follow the story without a guide, that’s a design flaw”) — the discussion never settled into one clear direction.

    1AnonymousOct 7, 2026 17:45
    What's even interesting about this?
    2AnonymousOct 7, 2026 17:46
Not playing this garbage-sona (a derisive nickname for Persona) in the first place is the correct answer anyway.
    3AnonymousOct 7, 2026 17:47
This isn't really unique to Persona, though.
    4AnonymousOct 7, 2026 17:47
I didn't follow it to the letter either, but I played while checking a guide and had a blast, so who cares.
    5AnonymousOct 7, 2026 17:47
I bet more than half of FromSoftware game players are watching guide videos too.
    6AnonymousOct 7, 2026 17:48
If that's how they have fun, it's fine, isn't it?
    7AnonymousOct 7, 2026 17:53
It's that person's own business — why not just ask them?
There are way too many garbage threads here that basically amount to "go tweet that on X instead."
    8AnonymousOct 7, 2026 17:54
If you want to collect every element in a single playthrough, you pretty much have to follow a walkthrough site exactly.
Nobody's got time to leisurely replay a game that long multiple times.
    9AnonymousOct 7, 2026 17:55
Aiming to max out every Confidant with the optimal schedule.
    10AnonymousOct 7, 2026 17:55
Well, that's just how it goes if you're filling in every element in one run.

Same as how mobile gacha gamers these days are always chasing the one optimal solution.
    11AnonymousOct 7, 2026 17:55
'Banshi Senkou' (another calendar-based Japanese game) had the same problem with missable events piling up because of its calendar system.
Time-limited events really are the villain here.

That's not it — it's just annoying being forced to redo things over and over for the developers' own self-satisfaction.

Replaying a game that easily tops 100 hours, multiple times? No way.

    16AnonymousOct 7, 2026 17:59
You can complete it effortlessly on a second playthrough, so that's fine by me — if you insist on doing it all in one run, that's on you.
    17AnonymousOct 7, 2026 18:01
If you actually want to complete everything, doing about two playthroughs is normal.
But this time around, replaying is a hassle, so it's better to just finish it in one go.

Don't go nitpicking how other people choose to play.
    23AnonymousOct 7, 2026 18:05
I get it — when one playthrough is 100 hours, you really don't feel like doing multiple runs.
    28AnonymousOct 7, 2026 18:07
Missable content is the real villain here.

This, plus games where you can't see the true ending unless you're above Normal difficulty — that was genuinely toxic design.
Though I doubt any game still does that now.
    35AnonymousOct 7, 2026 18:13
In Persona you can actually see other players' behavior patterns and "answers" through an in-game system,
so just referencing that is pretty much all you need — it's actually a pretty player-friendly design that lets you collect almost everything.
    39AnonymousOct 7, 2026 18:16
    Re: #35
If you're aiming for a perfect run on your first try, you'll naturally end up on the exact same schedule as a walkthrough.
    43AnonymousOct 7, 2026 18:19
This is basically the downside of making RPGs easy for anyone to clear.
Back in the day, the biggest value was in spending time and finally seeing the ending — but that's not the case anymore.
Items and events were just means to clear the game, not goals in themselves.
Precisely because anyone can clear it easily now, people end up obsessing over post-clear extras and completion instead.

    76AnonymousOct 7, 2026 19:01

And to also nail that remaining 10%, you'd have to build a rock-solid, min-maxed schedule — there's no way around it.
    79AnonymousOct 7, 2026 19:05
I've actually seen someone report clearing the game without even reaching the third term, despite the game repeatedly nudging them to "make sure you do this" — so I guess it can't be helped.
On social media it's common to see people hit triple-digit playtime hours on their first run, so of course newcomers get anxious.

What I don't get is you trying to make people understand something you yourself say you can't understand at all.
It's someone else's business, so who cares.
However other people choose to play, it's not like it causes a problem for the universe either.

Background and key points of this discussion

The Persona series runs on a calendar system that mimics school life, and many of its Confidant relationships and hidden content are designed to be time-limited. Because of this, trying to collect everything in a single playthrough tends to converge on a similar schedule no matter who’s playing, which is where the thread’s point — “of course it ends up matching a walkthrough site” — comes from. The disagreement boiled down to a difference in values: whether this counts as rational play (saving time) or as something that undermines the experience of the work itself, and the thread never reached a conclusion. Other titles such as “Banshi Senkou” were also brought up, but their specific mechanics weren’t detailed in the thread, so this article doesn’t go further into them either. The claim that a single playthrough runs around 100 hours is worth reading simply as a rough indicator of how long this game is.

※This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Hardware & Industry/Geha) thread “A newcomer who just started Persona 5 immediately peeked at the answers and ended up following a walkthrough site’s schedule”.

  • Why Are There So Few Female Game Directors? 5ch Weighs In

A user who noticed that lists of famous directors and creators in the gaming industry were overwhelmingly male posted about it on 5ch’s hardware/industry (“Geha”) board, sparking a discussion. Replies pointed to several real examples from Japan, including Aya Kyogoku, director of “Animal Crossing: New Horizons,” and Shiho Takahashi, who worked on the Fire Emblem series — while others raised industry-specific factors, like how big-budget game development tends to drag on for years, with sleeping over at the office once being the norm. The thread also repeatedly compared this to manga and illustration, where it’s far easier for an individual to break in as a creator, unlike game development.

    41AnonymousOct 7, 2026 18:05
Now that I think about it, there are plenty of female authors among manga artists, illustrators, and novelists.
Exposure to that kind of work is probably what raises up — or inspires — the next generation of creators.
Games just don't connect to that the same way.
Maybe it's that game development has this vague "boys' club" image to it?
Might be worth having some big publisher with room to spare put together an all-female team to make a game and cultivate that kind of development culture.
Not making them churn out otome games or "games for women" specifically, just having them make something ordinary and mainstream —

    Re: #64
You've got it backwards. Movies have the same division-of-labor culture as games, but thanks to a culture of criticism and awards, audiences are the ones who decided a film "belongs" to its director.
In other words, it's not the director who decides whether to be glamorous — it's the audience.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

As the thread itself noted, there are in fact several real examples of female directors in Japan, such as Aya Kyogoku (director of the “Animal Crossing” series) and Shiho Takahashi (“Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn”), so the headline’s claim of “not a single one” doesn’t quite match reality. Part of the backdrop to this discussion is an industry-specific circumstance: big-budget game development tends to become a multi-year project, and there was once a period when sleeping over at the office was the norm. Some replies also conflated the roles of producer and director, and the fact that job titles in this industry aren’t always clearly distinguished added to the confusion. The repeated comparisons to manga and illustration were meant to highlight the low barrier to entry for individual creators in those fields, versus game development, which requires a team and a budget.

  • Jonathan Blow’s “Achievements Jerk Players Around” Remark Sparks Mixed Reactions

Game developer Jonathan Blow (“Braid,” “The Witness”; his new title “Order of the Sinking Star” releases 10/8) sparked discussion on 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (“Geha”) board after remarking that achievements and trophies jerk players around, and that Nintendo made the right call by not adopting them. The thread debated whether in-game progress trackers are fundamentally different from platform-level achievements and trophies, noted that PlayStation requires trophy implementation while Steam leaves it optional for developers, and raised the harm done by a glut of low-quality games designed purely to farm trophies. Skeptics pushed back too, asking whether any actual data shows players being “jerked around,” leaving the debate split.

But dead silent on in-game achievements, huh
    13AnonymousOct 7, 2026 13:56
    Re: #5
External achievements cram a game's progress into a shared unit called "achievements,"
which invites comparison with other players and judging games by that metric.
That ends up turning the game into a kind of property/asset.
This breaks one of the elements of play proposed by Roger Caillois — "unproductiveness" (playing shouldn't make or lose you any property).
Once you feel you're gaining or losing something (achievements) by playing, you can't just focus on playing for its own sake anymore.
    That's the problem.
In-game achievements, which are harder to pull out of the game and show off, don't cause those problems as easily,
so you get to enjoy just the upside of visualizing steady progress.
In other words, it's fine to stay silent about in-game achievements specifically.

So trophies and in-game achievements look similar but are totally different.

maybe it's meant to discourage "trophy slop" games like the ones Re: #39 mentioned, where you get a platinum in 10 minutes…
Even so, the fact that they have to resort to that in the first place kind of exposes the limits of the trophy system.

Though it can also completely kill the emotional moment.

Background and key points of this discussion

Achievement systems are generally traced back to the “Gamerscore” that Xbox 360 introduced in 2005, which PS3 and later PlayStation consoles followed up on with trophies; Steam introduced its own version in 2008, but there implementation is left up to individual developers. PlayStation platforms are said to require implementation under certain guidelines in some cases, which lines up with the thread’s “Sony mandate” theory. Nintendo is one of the few major platform holders that hasn’t adopted a unified achievement feature on Switch and similar systems, and opinions always split whenever this topic comes up. Jonathan Blow is a developer with a strong authorial voice behind titles like “Braid” and “The Witness,” and he has repeatedly criticized achievements from a standpoint that values the “unproductiveness” of play. The thread divided between the philosophical argument that an external metric like achievements distorts how people play, and practical pushback along the lines of “you can just hide them if you don’t want to see them” or “they’re not much different from a progress tracker.” Both sides acknowledged the side effect of low-quality games churned out purely to farm trophies, but never agreed on exactly where to draw the line against in-game progress displays.

  • Falcom Raises Earnings Forecast, 5ch: ‘The Logic Is So Airtight It’s Basically Harassment’

Nihon Falcom has revised its earnings forecast for the fiscal year ending September 2026 upward, with sales rising from ¥3.6 billion to ¥4.3 billion (up 19.4%) and operating profit climbing from ¥2.2 billion to ¥2.8 billion (up 27.2%). On 5ch’s hardware/industry (“geha”) board, a debate broke out over whether this strong performance was driven by the company — long a PlayStation exclusive — finally releasing the “Sora no Kiseki” (Trails in the Sky) remake simultaneously worldwide on Switch and Steam. Posters threw around a mix of theories: the effect of gaining new users on Nintendo hardware, the situation with Nippon Ichi Software, which had previously handled overseas releases, and the presence of the Chinese market via Steam.

FY ending September 2026 earnings forecast

    Sales: ¥3.6B → ¥4.3B (up 19.4%)

    Operating profit: ¥2.2B → ¥2.8B (up 27.2%)

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Nihon Falcom has long developed its “Kiseki” (Trails) series as a PlayStation exclusive, partly because back when the company had only around 40 employees, it had its hands full just making the domestic PS version. Starting around 2018, the company expanded onto Switch and Steam, and with the “Sora no Kiseki” (Trails in the Sky) remake in particular, it carried out a simultaneous worldwide multi-platform release. Opinions in the thread are split over whether the “Switch effect,” “Chinese demand via Steam,” or “the simultaneous worldwide release itself” is the main driver of the growth. Some posts cited financial reports and an interview with the company’s president, but the cause can’t be pinned on just one factor that easily. There are also comments about the relationship with Nippon Ichi Software, which used to handle overseas development, but these include speculation from some users and aren’t officially confirmed facts — worth keeping in mind. It’s also worth flagging that posts treating the move away from PS5 as “proof” of the turnaround are conflating correlation with causation.

  • PS5’s Jailbreak Scene Advances to Run Switch Emulators Too — 5ch: “This Is Basically an Industry Crasher”

A post on X (formerly Twitter) revealed that “Relapse,” a jailbreak tool for the PS5, works on consoles running firmware 7.00–13.60, and that emulators for other systems — including the Nintendo Switch — are being ported to it one after another, sparking discussion on 5ch. The hack is reportedly turning the PS5 into a machine capable of running software from multiple platforms. Opinions in the thread split: some worried about the spread of pirated software and the impact on backward-compatibility design for the PS6, while others argued the real damage to Sony — whose revenue centers on online subscriptions and microtransactions — would be minimal.

if free pirated games run rampant,
third parties will pull out one after another,
and as third-party titles dry up,
PSN subscribers will drop right along with them

Background and key points of this discussion

The PS5 jailbreak tool “Relapse” only supports firmware versions 7.00–13.60, and carries the same risk as traditional console modding: a failed attempt can “brick” the console into a paperweight. The thread’s central disagreement is over how much real damage this does to software sales. Some worried about pirated copies of third-party offline-only games spreading, while others pointed out that since PS5 revenue now runs mainly on online subscriptions like PlayStation Plus, a rise in modded users could even work in Sony’s favor by boosting console sales and subscriber retention — leading some to suggest Sony might simply look the other way. Past precedents, like the custom-firmware (CFW) booms on the PSP and PS Vita, show that modding on its own didn’t collapse those console or handheld businesses. Whether this jailbreak ends up being a contained issue rather than an industry-wide blow remains the open question.

  • GTA6 Cloud Streaming Goes Xbox-Exclusive — but Extra Charges After 15 Hours Spark Debate

According to IGN, Xbox has secured exclusive rights to cloud-stream “GTA6.” While overseas gaming communities greeted the news in a celebratory mood, Japan’s 5ch hardware/industry (“Geha”) board erupted into debate over just how practical the deal actually is. Buying the Xbox version of the game and paying for a monthly Game Pass subscription gets you cloud play, but only 15 hours are free — go over that and you’ll need to pay extra. Some praised it as a way to jump into the game early without waiting for the PC release, while others, comparing it to PS5’s cloud features and GeForce Now, dismissed it as a “hollow exclusive.” Opinions were split.

    25AnonymousOct 7, 2026 09:07
I'm pretty sure PS5 does have cloud streaming.
This is probably just about GeForce Now not being an option regardless.

Nah, the quality isn't actually bad.
They're splitting it off into its own cloud plan, so…
Then again, maybe they had no choice but to separate it from Game Pass precisely because it can't handle GTA's load.
    33AnonymousOct 7, 2026 09:12
So: buy the Xbox version of GTA6 for $80, pay $14/month for Game Pass PC…
but that only gets you 15 hours, so you need the cloud plan on top of that too.
And of course once the PC version drops you'll have to buy it all over again, plus there's no disc so you can't even resell it, bro.
Hmm, the target audience for this seems pretty tiny lol

Even setting aside the flaws everyone's already pointed out, there's still a decent number of people without the right hardware who just want to dip a toe in.
    For a title this huge,
some of them might end up buying an actual Xbox console too — so regardless of whether the exclusivity deal's cost was worth it, there's upside for both the game and the hardware side.
    38AnonymousOct 7, 2026 09:14
Whether people will shell out full price for the Xbox version just for cloud streaming — hard to say, since I can't gauge how hyped Western fans really are.

There'll be queue waits, it'll probably end up metered, and since it's running on xCloud the graphics will be downgraded too.

Ah, I see — so this is actually useful for people who own neither an Xbox nor a PS.
But if you're willing to wait that long anyway, feels like you might as well just buy a console.
    54AnonymousOct 7, 2026 09:25
    Re: #49
No, the whole point is you no longer have to wait for the PC version.

But still — you buy the game at full price, pay for the cloud service itself, and then pay even more past 15 hours a month.
And for anyone who already owns a PC, cloud streaming is basically all downside since it's at the mercy of your internet connection.
Whether anyone actually picks cloud under these conditions remains to be seen.
    61AnonymousOct 7, 2026 09:30
Wait, does that mean you can't play it on the PS Portal?
    63AnonymousOct 7, 2026 09:32

    68AnonymousOct 7, 2026 09:38

They're specifically making people buy through the Microsoft Store, so maybe they're planning to flip on Play Anywhere the moment the PC version launches?
    69AnonymousOct 7, 2026 09:39
Even Xbox-aligned influencers are at the point of saying "don't even bother with multiplayer," though singleplayer would probably be playable with some setup-dependent quirks.
But would people really be okay buying the game and only being able to play it via cloud? The high-spec-PC master race is just going to buy it all over again once the PC version comes out anyway.
    71AnonymousOct 7, 2026 09:41

Given this whole push, it's hard to imagine they wouldn't steer people toward the Microsoft Store version — but then again, this is Rockstar we're talking about.

    85AnonymousOct 7, 2026 10:07

It's the time limit that's the real restriction.

Background and Key Points of Debate

Cloud gaming works by running the game on the provider’s servers and streaming only the video output to your device, so a stable, always-on internet connection is essential to play. The thread’s complaint that “GeForce Now isn’t an option” actually stems from a separate technical issue: since the PC version of GTA6 hasn’t been released yet, there’s nothing for NVIDIA’s service to license in the first place — unrelated to Xbox Cloud Gaming’s exclusivity deal itself. Xbox’s cloud service has also long had a free-play time cap, and this GTA6 cloud offering is expected to operate within that same limit, which is why much of the thread’s frustration centered on this “double cost” of buying the game and then being charged again by the hour. Meanwhile, PS5’s cloud features are built mainly around streaming to Sony’s own hardware, like the console itself or the PS Portal, so its positioning differs from Xbox’s, making a straightforward comparison of which is “better” difficult. It’s worth noting that the details and duration of the exclusivity deal hadn’t been disclosed at the time of reporting, so some of what’s discussed in the thread is speculation.

  • New ‘Gears of War: E-Day’ Footage Drops — Graphics Wow Fans, but Gameplay Splits Opinion

New gameplay footage for “Gears of War: E-Day” has dropped, sparking a flood of reactions on 5ch’s Hardware & Industry board (known as “Geha”). Screenshots running on RTX 4060 and RTX 4090 cards drew plenty of “the graphics are insane” comments, while the classic pick-up-and-swap weapon system drew complaints of feeling “outdated.” Many posters also shared hands-on impressions covering things like the 4-player co-op lobby setup and getting used to the controls, splitting the thread between praise for the visuals and gripes about the gameplay.

Lol, clearly never played the series (classic 'air-play' poser talk)

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

This title is the latest entry in a major Western game series, and reports say there was controversy overseas about character representation even at announcement — which is why the thread saw jabs calling it a “woke game.” However, details like the asthma caused by Rust Lung disease have been part of the series’ established lore since the second game, not a newly added element. That’s exactly why posts criticizing the game without knowing this background got called out as “clearly never played it” — much of the controversy boils down to how familiar people actually are with the series. Likewise, the “outdated” criticism of the pick-up-and-reuse weapon system reflects a design philosophy the series has stuck with from the start; the gap in opinion comes from comparing it to newer titles built around progression and upgrade systems. In the end, the thread’s reactions split mainly along two lines: praise for the graphics, and differing tastes over old-school versus modern gameplay systems.

  • Core i9-14900K Degradation Strikes Again — 4th Replacement Chip Fails Even After BIOS Update

A Reddit post is making waves after a user who has already replaced their Core i9-14900K three times since launch reported an invalid memory access error (0xC0000005) on their fourth chip as well — this time in a system paired with an RTX 5090 and 64GB of DDR5-6000. The user said they’d already applied the degradation-related BIOS update and left all settings at Intel’s defaults. On 5ch’s hardware board, opinions split over whether this is a genuine product defect or self-inflicted damage from running the chip too hard, with some users chiming in that their 13900K or 13700 has run fine the whole time, and others praising how generous Intel’s warranty support has been.

Is the Core i9-14900K still degrading even after the BIOS update?

User who already swapped it three times reports yet another error

A user who says they’ve replaced their Core i9-14900K three times since launch is reporting on Reddit that errors have started showing up on the fourth chip too, in a PC paired with an RTX 5090 and 64GB of DDR5-6000 memory. The user had already updated their motherboard’s BIOS to guard against degradation and says they simply loaded Intel’s default settings — yet they’re still getting error code 0xC0000005, which indicates invalid memory access.

    Re: #18
I mean, calling the 13th/14th gen problem "solved" is a stretch — it's more like they throttled things down to stop physical damage, which tanks performance. It's an awkward generation either way.

No, it's an issue before that even comes into play. Intel itself acknowledged the problem — that's exactly why they went out of their way to extend the warranty period.

Honestly, safest bet is to just not touch it. It's not only the 14900K — both the 13th and 14th gen have this flaw. If you want to stick with Intel, you're better off going with something like the 285K.

I'm on a 13700, no issues, 3 years in without a single error. Cinebench R23 pulls 26000 at a 170W limit, no problems there either.
That said, I do think people with no PC knowledge should probably steer clear of these chips.
Prebuilt PCs that advertise i7/i9 chips are usually locked down to something absurd like 110W in the BIOS to begin with,
so there's nothing to worry about there in the first place.
Just pop open a prebuilt and look at the CPU cooler —
you don't even need to check the specs to know what wattage that machine is designed for.
Unless it's got liquid cooling, there's no way it's pushing past 200W.

I don't think that's really the point. Intel chips wear down a little every time you use them — once that wear kicks in, degradation speeds up and eventually it fails completely. Even after the patch, it's only being held in check, not actually fixed.

Don't post if you don't understand how it works lol. As long as your settings aren't causing massive power spikes, this isn't even a problem to begin with.

Background and key points of the debate

The age-related degradation seen in Intel’s Core i9-13900K/14900K chips is known as the “Raptor Lake instability issue,” attributed to excessive voltage requests during idle states. Intel has issued several microcode updates (such as 0x129) to cap the voltage ceiling, and has also extended the warranty period to five years. However, these updates only slow the progression of degradation — they don’t restore chips that have already worn down. The thread split over whether the error reported this time is a genuine “product defect” or a problem with the user’s own power settings (overclocking, high PL2 limits). Those defending Intel pointed to environmental factors on the user’s end, like running without liquid cooling or pushing past 200W, while those reporting failures countered that it happens even at stock settings. There was also disagreement over the basic premise that “CPUs shouldn’t degrade in the first place” — some argued wear is inevitable under heavy use, while others insisted a properly run CPU should last essentially forever. One point not raised in the thread but worth noting: whether the next-generation Arrow Lake and Nova Lake architectures, which have been redesigned, have actually eliminated this same risk remains unconfirmed, since there isn’t yet enough real-world usage data to say for sure.

  • PS6’s New Controller May Pack a 2.5-Inch Screen — Could Even Run Mini-Games On Its Own

Reports say a patent for Sony’s rumored new “DualSense 2.0” controller for the PS6 — currently in development — was published in July 2026. The concept reportedly replaces the current touchpad with a detachable 2.5-inch color display, letting players run dedicated mini-games right on the controller itself. On 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (“Geha”) board, the discussion covered doubts about how practical such a tiny screen would really be, battery drain, pricing, and comparisons to earlier similar attempts like the Wii U and Dreamcast.

Sony, said to be developing its next-generation console the PS6, may be introducing a new controller called the “DualSense 2.0.” Patent documents published in July 2026 reveal a modular controller concept that swaps out the current touchpad for a detachable 2.5-inch color display.

This small screen is reportedly meant not just to show supplementary info from the TV screen, but potentially to let players run dedicated PS6 mini-games directly on the controller itself.

into thinking this is an actual reveal
    of the real DualSense 2.0!

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

This story originates from a patent document reportedly published in July 2026 — nothing has been confirmed for actual production. The idea of putting an auxiliary display on a controller isn’t new, and the thread brought up comparisons like the Sega Dreamcast’s startup screen, the Wii U’s tablet-style GamePad, and Sony’s own PocketStation. All of these are past examples that failed to catch on, and that history frames the whole discussion. Opinions in the thread split between those who saw the small screen positively, as a “mini-game feature to pass the time during loading,” and those who saw it as “just extra hardware that drains the battery and jacks up the price.” Several commenters also questioned the reliability of the site that originally reported the story, so for now this should be read with some skepticism — as an unconfirmed patent report, not a done deal.

  • Palworld TCG’s Official Tournament Draws a Shocking Turnout… of 3 People

An announcement post revealed that only 3 people took part in an officially sanctioned tournament for Palworld’s official card game, held at an Akiba shop on October 6, 2026, sparking discussion on 5ch. Combined with reports that a Weiß Schwarz match event held the same day at a different venue also drew just 3 participants, the thread debated the distinction between “officially sanctioned” and “official,” compared the situation to other TCGs like One Piece and Detective Conan, and dwelled on the stark gap with Palworld’s reported popularity of over 40 million players shortly after launch.

Lately he's starting to feel like a reverse-jinx
Be-Kane, Palworld, whatever he hypes up — he talks it up, talks it up, and then BOOM, it crashes

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

Palworld is reported to have drawn over 40 million players worldwide shortly after its January 2024 launch, and riding that momentum, multiple manufacturers moved to produce card games and merchandise based on the title. However, what sparked this discussion was an “officially sanctioned” tournament independently held by a retail shop — a different scale of operation and drawing power compared to an “official” event run directly by the game company itself. While many thread comments fixated solely on the small turnout and tied it to a decline in Palworld’s own popularity, factors specific to this particular event — such as the date and time, the shop’s size, and how long it was advertised beforehand — likely played a large role too, and it’s worth keeping in mind that the turnout at a single shop event can’t measure the popularity of an entire IP on its own.

※This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Hardware/Industry (Geha)) thread “Palworld card game so popular that only 3 people showed up to the official tournament“.
