  • MAFF: ‘Hard to Confirm a Rice Exodus’ — 5ch Fires Back: ‘It’s Expensive, Tastes Bad, and a Pain to Cook’

On September 3, Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) released an analysis of demand trends for domestically produced staple rice. While consumption of domestic rice has fallen amid the price spikes that followed the “Reiwa Rice Crisis,” the ministry suggested this may reflect a shift toward cheaper foreign rice rather than an overall drop in rice consumption, stating it is “hard to identify an overall declining trend in rice consumption.” The thread filled up with personal accounts of cooking rice at home less often, photo reports of last year’s rice sitting unsold at supermarkets even after price cuts, and pointed questions about the government buying up reserve rice at high prices — along with conflicting figures over whether the 2025 planted acreage actually increased, all feeding distrust in the government’s explanation itself.

    Kyodo News

Have consumers really turned their backs on rice? By September 3, Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries had released a new analysis of demand trends for domestically produced staple rice. While consumption of domestic rice declined amid price hikes following the “Reiwa Rice Crisis,” the ministry said this may reflect a shift toward cheaper foreign rice, concluding it is “hard to identify an overall declining trend in rice consumption.”

Middlemen skimming their cut, slurping it right up (a jab at intermediaries siphoning off profits)

Background and Key Points of This Topic

The “Reiwa Rice Crisis” refers to the turmoil in which domestic rice prices spiked amid harvest concerns from the extreme heat since 2024 and bottlenecks in distribution. MAFF’s latest analysis argues that even though consumption of domestic rice has fallen, that doesn’t necessarily mean people are abandoning “rice as a staple food” altogether — it may simply reflect a shift toward foreign rice. That distinction matters, since the headline alone is easy to misread as denying any decline in domestic rice consumption at all. In the thread, photo reports of domestic rice sitting unsold at supermarkets even after price cuts were set against cited news of a sharp rise in foreign rice imports, splitting opinion over whether MAFF’s explanation reflects reality or is just political cover. There was also back-and-forth citing specific figures over whether the 2025 planted acreage actually expanded, suggesting that even the interpretation of the government’s own statistics isn’t unanimous.

  • ‘Dragon Ball Super: Beerus’ Premieres October 11 — Web Divided Over the ‘Enhanced Version’

The “Enhanced Version” of Dragon Ball Super — rebuilt from the late Akira Toriyama’s original story with new cuts and a complete re-shoot — titled “Dragon Ball Super: Beerus,” begins airing on the Fuji TV network in the late-night slot starting October 11. Megatera Zero will perform the opening theme, and Vickeblanka the ending theme. Reactions on 5ch were split: some praised the late-night broadcast slot, while others voiced complaints like “it’s just a rehash of the same story” and “they should remake it faithful to the manga,” with plenty of comments also touching on voice-actor turnover and succession concerns.

    9/3 (Thu) 8:00

It has been revealed that “Dragon Ball Super: Beerus,” a TV anime in the “Dragon Ball” series based on the late Akira Toriyama’s popular manga, will air on the Fuji TV network on October 11 at 11:15 PM. Thirty minutes after the broadcast ends, it will stream first on Prime Video and U-NEXT. “Dragon Ball Super: Beerus” is an “Enhanced Version” of “Dragon Ball Super.” “Enhanced” means “to elevate, strengthen, or improve.” The series adds a large number of new cuts, redraws existing ones, re-shoots every single cut, and reconstructs the story with new dubbing, including added score and sound effects.

A key visual for Super’s opening has been released, showing the God of Destruction Beerus flashing a fearless smile as he sets his sights on taking over Earth, alongside Son Goku and Frieza. The opening trailer, built entirely from newly created footage, features Goku and Beerus along with Frieza, formidable new adversaries, and characters who hold the key to the story. It was also announced that singer-songwriter Megatera Zero will perform the opening theme “Onogami,” while singer-songwriter Vickeblanka will perform the ending theme “Kanpeki no Peki.”

I think opinions differ depending on whether you watched it live from the start or discovered it later. Dragon Ball originally started as a gag-filled adventure manga, and people who watched it in real time enjoyed it as such — but for people who started around the Saiyan arc onward, Dragon Ball is seen as a battle manga, so there's less room for them to accept the adventure/comedy side.

That impersonator's had throat problems for a while now, so they probably won't.

Background and Key Points of This Story

The “Enhanced Version” isn’t a new story arc — it reconstructs the existing “Dragon Ball Super” by adding new cuts, re-shooting every cut, and redoing the sound, while the story itself remains unchanged. Akira Toriyama passed away suddenly in 2024, and the unease over new material continuing without the original creator is reflected in thread comments like “they should remake it faithful to the source material” and “it’s basically like fan-made content.” Also, without knowing the backstory of how the titles branched into “Z,” “Super,” “GT,” and “DAIMA,” a breakdown like comment #63 can be hard to follow. Note that the voice-actor turnover isn’t something stated in the article itself — it remains pure speculation within the thread.

Level-5 announced on its official X account that it will stream “LEVEL5 VISION 2026 II Dream” on YouTube starting at 9 PM (JST) on Thursday, September 10. The company has three titles slated for release by year’s end, but posters on the hardware/industry (Geha) board pointed out that 7 to 8 already-announced titles still have no release date, fueling speculation that the stream will focus more on follow-up updates and delay announcements than actual new information. Talk also centered on whether a Nintendo Direct might land the same day, on the nuance of the title “II Dream,” and on the fact that a similar stream called “Takumi” (“Craftsman”) was already held back in April.

Ban Bandai Namco if you want, but Level-5's putting out new Switch 2 titles, so…

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

Level-5 is a privately held company said to maintain its financial footing on profits from past hit IPs like Yo-kai Watch and Inazuma Eleven. In recent years it has kept rolling out new title announcements even as release timelines have increasingly slipped. As posters in the thread noted, a large number of announced titles still have no confirmed release date, and opinion was split on whether this stream would bring genuine new information or mainly serve as a venue for delay announcements on existing titles. Whether the timing overlaps with a Nintendo Direct or other companies’ events also drew attention, but as of September 10 no official announcement from Nintendo had been confirmed, so that remains speculation within the thread.

  • Sony’s “State of Play” Flops — Only 300K Concurrent Viewers, Panned Abroad Too

Sony’s new “State of Play” broadcast (nicknamed “Steple” by Japanese fans) aired, drawing criticism for its thin lineup and the almost total lack of buzz around the stream. Worldwide concurrent viewers topped out at roughly 300,000, and 5ch posters lined up to call it weaker than past editions of the show. Overseas outlet Eurogamer even wrote an article about how chaotic the stream’s chat got, making clear the tepid-to-hostile reaction wasn’t limited to Japan. What stood out most in the thread wasn’t the criticism itself, but posters’ unease that there wasn’t even enough energy left to properly dunk on it.

    Re: #87
If there'd been any real surprises, dedicated threads would've popped up and blown up over them.
    Read between the lines.

    Background and key points

“State of Play” is Sony’s irregularly-scheduled showcase for new titles and DLC — essentially Sony’s answer to Nintendo Direct. What made this round notable was the reaction to the concurrent viewer count cited in the thread (roughly 300,000): a widespread sense that there wasn’t even enough energy left to properly tear it apart. Normally a show like this draws a storm of criticism, but this time the dominant reaction was that even the haters lacked momentum — producing two competing takes: one holding that “the truly alarming thing is the dead silence,” and another countering that “getting review-bombed at all is proof people still care.” There was also frustration that the back half of the broadcast was given over to DLC reveals and voice-actor interviews, echoing complaints about similar pacing in past editions of the show. The fact that overseas outlet Eurogamer wrote about the chaos in the stream’s chat suggests the lukewarm-to-hostile mood wasn’t confined to Japanese 5ch reactions — it extended to overseas communities as well.

  • Owner Explodes After Customer Uses Plate as Ashtray, Snaps ‘Never Come Back’ — Is the Customer on the Hook?

At an izakaya (Japanese pub), a customer reportedly used their plate as an ashtray after finishing their meal, and when the owner noticed, they exploded, telling the customer “never come back.” The incident, reported by Bengo4.com News, became a hot topic on 5channel’s News Speed+ board. Some pointed out that the shop allowed smoking but apparently hadn’t provided ashtrays, and others argued there’s no hygiene issue once the plate is washed — but plenty of posters strongly objected on principle regardless of washing, and the thread split over whether the customer bears any legal responsibility.

It only applies if the place was operating before the law took effect and is under a certain floor size
Even then, it just means anyone under 20 can't come in
If it's been running since way back, this kind of thing isn't unusual — though is the owner losing it here maybe a second-generation owner, or someone who bought out the whole business?

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

The story of “the plate used as an ashtray” ties directly into the legal requirements for the crime of property damage (kibutsu songai). Under Japanese law, this offense doesn’t require an object to be physically broken — it can also apply when an object’s intended use is ruined by inflicting lasting psychological revulsion that washing can’t undo. There’s precedent for this: a case where someone smeared bodily fluid on a water bottle resulted in a guilty verdict. That said, the claim that “it’s hygienically fine once washed” and the claim that “it’s psychologically unusable” carry different legal weight, and which one applies here depends on details the original article doesn’t fully spell out — which is why opinions in the thread stayed split. Also, as post #203 notes, restaurants that allow indoor smoking do so under transitional provisions of the revised Health Promotion Act: small establishments that were already operating before the law took effect can set up a designated smoking room if they meet certain requirements, but in exchange, anyone under 20 is barred from entering. It’s not clear from the article which category this particular restaurant falls under.

  • FF7 Remake ‘Complete Edition’ Priced at ¥77,777 — 5ch Reacts: “That’s Too Damn Expensive lol”

Square Enix has announced that the “Complete Edition” of the Final Fantasy VII Remake series will go on sale on April 8, 2027, for ¥77,777. On 5ch’s hardware/industry board, the price sparked a wave of shocked reactions like “That’s too damn expensive lol” and “That’s got an extra digit on it.” Discussion centered on the price gap with the separately announced digital trilogy set (¥11,330), speculation that the bundled limited-edition card could resell for tens of thousands of yen on the secondary market, and inconsistencies with the company’s previous stance on DLC — all fueling debate over whether the price and sales approach are justified.

    Could be scary high, honestly.
The FF-collab MTG cards are pretty popular — setting aside outliers like the Chocobo cards with only a handful in existence worldwide, Cloud and Sephiroth cards easily go for around ¥50,000.
This time it's new artwork, the art quality looks really good, and they probably won't print many.
I'd guess it easily clears ¥100,000.
Could even hit ¥1,000,000 if things get out of hand (´・ω・`)

A plain digital 3-game set has been announced separately.
    It's ¥11,330.
Since Revelations (the third game) alone is ¥9,900, this set effectively lets you get Remake and Rebirth for ¥1,430 combined.

The turnaround from Rebirth to Revelations feels awfully fast.
Fast enough that I'm starting to suspect they deliberately scaled back the content from what was originally planned because sales weren't good.
    90AnonymousSep 4, 2026 00:17
    Re: #85
They learned the hard way with Rebirth that the longer the gap between installments in a split-release model, the more sales drop off.
Even the higher-ups probably rushed to get this one finished.
    88AnonymousSep 4, 2026 00:16
For a limited edition this expensive, you'd think they'd include the full soundtrack instead of a mini one.
    91AnonymousSep 4, 2026 00:18
    Re: #88
They'll probably sell the full soundtrack separately anyway… probably slapping some tagline on it like "Relive that emotion once again ────" lol
    89AnonymousSep 4, 2026 00:17
The fans who've stuck with and supported this series the longest are going to be the most let down by this lineup and pricing.

If it had been something like a standard-edition triple pack for ¥15,000 — like the twin pack they did when Rebirth launched, aimed at getting as many people as possible to play — that would've been understandable.

But this is just too ugly. This is probably going to sell like 10,000 copies in its first week.
    110AnonymousSep 4, 2026 00:30

If you mean the digital twin pack they did for Rebirth, they're doing a digital triple pack for this one too.
    98AnonymousSep 4, 2026 00:23
Probably because if they packed in all the DLC, it wouldn't be ready in time for next year, and the disc version wouldn't sell.
    101AnonymousSep 4, 2026 00:25
    Re: #98
Ah, so it's release the disc first and add DLC later. Still, going back on what they previously said about "no DLC" is something else… well, I wasn't planning to buy it anyway so whatever lol

Hope it ends up stalled out like FF15 did ^^ (referencing FF15's famously scrapped post-launch story DLC)

Background and Key Points of Debate

This announcement comes as the Final Fantasy VII Remake series — following “Remake” in 2020 and “Rebirth” in 2024 — moves toward its concluding chapter. The “Complete Edition” in question is a premium limited version; a standard digital trilogy set (¥11,330) has also been announced separately, and the ¥77,777 price tag put the spotlight on how much the limited edition’s added extras are actually worth. Opinion on the thread was split mainly over how to value the included bonus card: some pointed to past FF-collaboration cards reselling for tens of thousands of yen on the secondary market and predicted this one could top ¥100,000, while many others simply dismissed the price as far too high. The discussion was also colored by lingering distrust of the split-release sales model and doubts about whether this squares with the company’s previously stated DLC policy.

※This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Hardware/Industry (Geha)) thread “FF7 Remake Series Complete Edition Confirmed for ¥77,777!.”

  • FF7’s Third Installment Has Noticeably Worse Graphics Than Rebirth — Dumbed Down for Weaker Hardware?

Footage of “FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION” (releasing April 8, 2027) was shown during a State of Play, and 5ch users quickly pointed out that the graphics look inferior to its predecessor, Rebirth. Some speculate this is due to development being built around a multiplatform release alongside the Switch 2, while others suggest it reflects a design shift made in light of how troubled Rebirth’s Switch 2 port turned out to be. Beyond the graphics debate, the thread’s discussion expanded into Japan’s dependence on the domestic market and Nintendo, as well as the shifting relationship between Sony and the Final Fantasy series.

Because of Nintendo, Japan's game industry risks getting left behind by the rest of the world.

Overseas markets are shifting to Steam too, you know, and PlayStation's overseas sales are dropping right along with it.
Also, FF became "washed up" in Japan first, and that dragged Western sales down with it.

That doesn't mean it's fine to neglect the domestic market — and honestly, why should Japanese gamers even have to care about a game company's business circumstances in the first place?
What Japanese gamers want is games made for Japan.

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

FINAL FANTASY VII Remake launched for PS4/PS5 in 2020, and its sequel, Rebirth, followed in 2024, later receiving a Switch 2 port as well. The newly announced conclusion to the trilogy appears to have been developed from the outset with a Switch 2 multiplatform release in mind, and the central theory in the thread was that the graphics look inferior as a result of being tailored to lower-performance hardware. At the same time, some pointed to increased costs from going open-world, or to design changes made in response to lessons learned from Rebirth’s troubled Switch 2 port, so no single cause has been settled on. It’s worth noting that what was shown here is only announcement-stage footage — the final in-game performance and visuals haven’t been confirmed, and the release itself is still a ways off, in April 2027. Some also pointed to the short amount of time the game got during State of Play as a sign that FF’s standing within the PlayStation camp may be shifting, though that too remains speculation.

I hear Vantelin Dome has really good access and great AC, so it's perfect for killing time.
Kyocera Dome has just as good access too, but apparently attendance there is lackluster.

    Background and Talking Points

How much responsibility for poor results in pro baseball falls on the manager is a debate that resurfaces every year, partly because it’s hard to objectively verify whether in-game decisions were right or wrong. In the thread, the view that “results on the field are the players’ responsibility” sits alongside the view that “the manager should own the outcomes of decisions like personnel use and pitching changes,” making clear this isn’t a case where one side is simply right. Because baseball, unlike soccer, doesn’t tie wins and losses as directly to how a system meshes with player ability, it’s hard to measure exactly how much a manager’s decisions affect results — which is likely why drawing motivation out of players tends to become the de facto yardstick for judging a manager. One point readers can easily get wrong is lumping the intensity of social-media criticism together as “a phenomenon unique to today”: the thread itself shows a range of views, with some commenters saying “criticism online is brutal” and others saying “criticism these days is actually more civil,” suggesting there’s no single consistent take.

  • FF7 Remake Finale ‘Revelation’ Set for April 8, 2027 Release

It’s been revealed that “FF7 Revelation,” the concluding chapter of the FF7 Remake trilogy, will launch on April 8, 2027, sparking a thread on 5ch’s Live News (Games) board. While original fans welcomed the news with comments like “Just getting more good-looking FF7 is satisfying enough on its own,” the CG and character design in Yuffie’s reveal scene drew criticism as “outdated by today’s graphics standards.” The thread filled with a mix of excitement and gripes — worries about the exploration elements that felt like such a slog in the previous game, ‘Rebirth,’ debate over the removal of save-data carryover, and speculation about when the mobile game ‘Ever Crisis’ will shut down.

Only a handful of people feel that way, I bet.

Next year's going to be the year of Ananta (Tencent's upcoming open-world RPG) — they should've forced this out before year's end no matter what. FF or not, it'll bomb if it launches after Ananta.

Modern Square Enix has dated taste, but they'll still go out of their way to put characters in tights just to avoid panty shots. If they're going to bother, they should redesign the outfits too.

Rebirth didn't sell, so the budget probably got cut. Feels like they just want to rush it out and close the project.

FF7 Ever Crisis is also ending service this October, right? Normally you'd think that no matter how much it's losing money, they'd hang on at least until the final FF7 title to avoid hurting the FF7 brand's reputation. But I guess Square Enix doesn't even expect the Remake finale to sell anymore, since they're ending Ever Crisis before the finale even comes out.

    Remake final boss: Sephiroth
    Rebirth final boss: Sephiroth
    Revelation final boss: ?

    Re: #80
I haven't played the Remake games, but from what I've seen they're bringing in characters from parallel timelines, so I bet they'll frame even Sephiroth as a victim and roll out some evil mastermind pulling the strings behind the world — riding on Sephiroth's popularity while they're at it.
    82AnonymousSep 3, 2026 23:20
The main story's fine, but the exploration is just too painful. No matter where you explore, every map has the same towers, life springs, summon fights, and monsters, so it gets old fast. Ancient Intel, the only spot with a side story, tends to force you into so-so minigames, and please, spare me the Moogle thing too.

The maps are big, but there's zero actual freedom in them.
    112AnonymousSep 3, 2026 23:44
    Re: #82
Modern FF barely even has proper towns anyway. Exploration that's just big with no freedom at all is the worst kind there is.

Compared to other companies' games, the design sense is frighteningly bad. Even the enemy designs were only good up through FF6.
    102AnonymousSep 3, 2026 23:35
    Re: #86
Seriously, I don't think the FF devs even look at current games anymore. Character designs like FF's are already a pretty outdated model at this point.

Is there even another game out there selling well with character designs like FF's?
    104AnonymousSep 3, 2026 23:37
    Re: #102
I don't think there is. It's had old, uncool taste for ages.
    106AnonymousSep 3, 2026 23:40
I think whoever designed the monsters up through FF6 was actually better. The character designs from FF7 onward feel kind of try-hard Western ("buta-kusai," a Japanese term for overly foreign-looking design).

By the way, the monster designs in FF Legends were done by that same FF6-era person.

    Ghost of Tsushima, 2020

If you look closely, even Ghost of Tsushima has kind of a Pro Yakyuu Spirits (a Japanese baseball video game series) vibe to it lol

Background and Key Points of This Topic

The FF7 Remake trilogy began with ‘Remake’ in 2020 and continued with ‘Rebirth’ in 2024, and now concludes with this title, ‘Revelation.’ The complaints about exploration elements that kept coming up in the thread are actually an extension of existing criticism aimed at the open-world-style side content in the previous game, ‘Rebirth’ — it’s easy to mistake this for commentary on Revelation’s own content, which hasn’t actually been revealed yet. The removal of save-data carryover is also rooted in the fact that compatibility already broke with the PS4 version of ‘Remake,’ the original installment, rather than being a change to the series’ overall specs. Opinions on the character designs are split between those calling designer Tetsuya Nomura’s work “dated” and those defending it out of love for the original — a debate that isn’t unique to this title but has followed the FF series for years. Note also that, at the time of this thread, the timing of mobile game ‘Ever Crisis’ ending service was unconfirmed speculation, not information that can be stated as fact.

  • Professional slot player breaks after netting just ¥160,000 for the year — 5ch: “Guess I’ll drive for Uber tomorrow”

A thread appeared on a 5ch livestream board where the original poster, who had been trying to make a living playing pachislot, revealed that “my total earnings this year came to ¥160,000 — that works out to about ¥190 an hour.” Despite grinding long hours at it as his main job, he’d been steadily eating into his savings, and the conversation turned toward switching to other work like Uber. The thread touched on the difference between “equal-exchange” and “non-equal-exchange” halls (payout-rate systems that affect how easy machines are to beat), machine selection, and discomfort with how streamers portray their high-stakes betting — all underscoring just how hard it is to actually make a living as a pro player.

Juggler machines should be doable. Even then it's only about ¥200,000 a month though (Juggler = a long-running easy-to-read slot series)
    5AnonymousSep 3, 2026 23:03
    Re: #3
    Probably because it's a "4-or-6, equal-exchange" hall — feels like it's always mid-tier settings (the hall's internal payout config)
    10AnonymousSep 3, 2026 23:10
Ena machines, though… pacing around while mashing the push button… it's annoying enough just watching, let alone doing it yourself… (Ena = a slot machine with a push-button feature)
    14AnonymousSep 3, 2026 23:12
    Re: #10

Aren't Ururimi and Umineko crazy generous?
I don't play them myself, but the hall that runs them seems stable and I'm up a decent amount there
    20AnonymousSep 3, 2026 23:15
    Re: #12
Ururimi's running pretty positive but it's way too volatile, and you can't get a seat that often anyway
Not many halls even have it
Umineko, well, you just can't get a seat at all
    15AnonymousSep 3, 2026 23:13
If you could grind Ururimi 13 hours a day, 365 days a year, sitting like a statue, you could probably scrape by a living

There are only two halls around here that even have Ururimi
    17AnonymousSep 3, 2026 23:13
That said, as a side hustle, ¥20,000 a month
    isn't something to scoff at

The fundamental problem with not winning is your hours:
    7 days a week at 4 hours a day
    6 days a week at 4.8 hours a day
    5 days a week at 5.8 hours a day
    If you're playing skill-based machines
you need something like 6 days a week at 10 hours a day
    45AnonymousSep 3, 2026 23:32
    Re: #41
    Mine's 6 days a week, 5 hours
But here's the thing… whenever I play long hours I tend to lose overall
If I'm up, it gets swallowed back and I keep feeding in more; if I'm down, there's no comeback, I just sink straight to the bottom
    43AnonymousSep 3, 2026 23:31

You should just grind Shin Hanabi until it's gone
I just play it as "done unless a guaranteed-bonus symbol hits once my banked coins run out," and before I know it I've got 30,000 coins
    54AnonymousSep 3, 2026 23:39
    Re: #51

Honestly, isn't it easier to win in non-equal-exchange regions than equal-exchange ones?
At the end of the day, slots are just brutal torture without a good setting
    60AnonymousSep 3, 2026 23:42
    Re: #57
If you're chasing good settings then non-equal-exchange makes sense, but then there's the lining up and the lottery draws to deal with

    95AnonymousSep 4, 2026 00:03
More to the point, if you can only manage 97.9% on Shin Hanabi's small-bonus symbols, I doubt you're clearing Versus's properly
Your miss rate must be brutal

How many frames of reel-timing accuracy does that need?

Yeah, I really am bad at Versus
Lately I'm hitting about 90%, but my missed coins are pushing close to 10,000
Shin Hanabi is all mental, though
Getting nothing but small bonuses just makes me irritated
    114AnonymousSep 4, 2026 00:14
Chasing settings on AT machines means even when you trigger the bonus, you're still fighting 60-70% win rates — the stress is unreal
    119AnonymousSep 4, 2026 00:17
    Re: #114
You play machines where setting 6 has an 80%+ win rate
If setting 6 only gives you 60%, playing it solo is rough

    I feel this hard
Watching streamers dump ¥100,000 in and go "teehee, confirmed good setting!"

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Regulatory changes in recent years have reined in pachislot payout potential, making it far harder than before to score big wins in a short time. Even within the thread, comments like “back in my day I could average winning ¥1,000,000 a month” point to how much tougher it’s become to make a living as a professional player. The discussion is dense with jargon — the difference between equal-exchange and non-equal-exchange halls, or how win-rate math factors into chasing good settings on AT machines — that can be hard for outsiders to follow. At its core, though, the thread is about the harsh reality of turning a passion into a job: some professional players keep grinding while eating into their savings, while others in the thread voice concern about that, making the risk of trying to earn a living through gambling the central issue.
