  • Famitsu’s Onimusha Article Omits Switch 2 from Platform List — 5ch Users Cry ‘Deliberate’

A post claiming that the platform-icon lineup in Famitsu’s September 10 issue feature on “Onimusha” doesn’t include a Switch 2 icon became a hot topic on the game hardware (ゲハ) board. While some in the thread suspected “they must be deliberately leaving Switch 2 out,” others countered that “since the Switch 2 version was announced later, they probably just forgot to add the icon — the text listing is still there,” splitting opinion between intentional exclusion and a simple mistake. The thread also notes that a Switch 2 version product page can in fact be found on the Nintendo eShop.

I read Famitsu's Onimusha article, and yeah, Switch 2 wasn't in the platform list. Deliberate, maybe?
This is the September 10 issue.

    Re: #87
Whether they like it or not, there's nothing they can do about PlayStation software just not selling

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

What sparked this thread was a claim that gaming magazine Famitsu, in an article introducing “Onimusha,” left the Switch 2 icon out of its list of compatible-platform icons. On the hardware/industry (ゲハ) board, there’s a long-running undercurrent of frustration with how Famitsu handles Nintendo hardware coverage, and this incident quickly fed into the view that “this has to be deliberate.” That said, some posters in the thread pointed out that because the Switch 2 version was announced later than the other platforms, the icon list simply hadn’t been updated yet — even though the text listing itself was present — leaving open the possibility that it was a simple oversight. It’s also worth noting that a Switch 2 version product page can indeed be found on the Nintendo eShop, so this is easy to misread as the release itself being in doubt, which it isn’t. On the whole, this is a familiar type of thread for the board — a mix of distrust toward how media outlets treat different platforms and the usual rivalry between console fanbases.

*This article is compiled as an excerpt and summary of the 5ch (Hardware/Industry (ゲハ)) thread “[Sad News] Famitsu, for some reason, doesn’t include Switch 2 in Onimusha’s platform list.”

  • PS enthusiast: “It’s a lie that PlayStation isn’t popular in Japan! Combined hardware and software sales favor PS”

A post appeared on 5ch’s hardware/industry (“Geha”) board claiming that it’s a lie PlayStation isn’t popular in Japan — that when you combine hardware and software sales overall, PS actually sells better. In response, data on recent software sales rankings was presented showing the Switch in first place with 4.86 million units (48.2%) and the Switch 2 in second with 3.98 million units (41.1%), while the PS5 trailed far behind at just 1.01 million units (10.5%). Hardware unit sales showed an equally wide gap, with the Switch 2 at 2.43 million units against the PS5’s 390,000 — and no data ever emerged to back up the original poster’s claim.

Sometimes you get people saying stuff like "Nintendo's always dominated Japan and PlayStation's hopeless"… are they just not seeing reality? It's only Nintendo's software that's strong — looking at hardware and software combined, it feels like even in Japan PS is actually selling better…

Laid out this way it almost looks like a close race… "how mysterious" (a pun on Fushigidane, Bulbasaur's Japanese name)

Background and Key Points of This Debate

Arguments over sales data crop up regularly on 5ch’s gaming hardware board, but this time the discussion talked past itself thanks to the vague standard of “hardware and software combined.” Japan’s home console market has long been discussed in terms of weekly unit-sales charts, where Nintendo hardware has consistently dominated the top spots. At the same time, the thread introduced data showing the PS5 taking the top spot in UK packaged-software revenue for 2025 — a reminder that rankings can flip depending on the country and the metric used (units vs. revenue, packaged vs. digital), a distinction that’s easy to overlook. Domestic unit-sales figures were presented repeatedly throughout the thread, but no one ever agreed on what “overall” was actually supposed to mean — units, revenue, domestic, or worldwide — so the argument ended in a stalemate.

However, on a 5channel Geinou/Sports News+ thread, attention shifted away from the first pitch itself and toward claims that some fans nearby had asked for autographs — behavior criticized as “embarrassing” — sparking debate over the group’s name recognition on the ground and the apparent absence of any staff.

    That one's really good, right?

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Number_i is a group formed in 2024 by Hirano Sho, Jinguji Yuta, and Kishi Yuta after the three left the former Johnny’s (now STARTO ENTERTAINMENT) agency in 2023, and this ceremonial first pitch for the Dodgers marked an unusual booking for them. On the thread, opinion split between those figuring “the local crowd must have had no idea who they were” and those arguing “a lot of MLB broadcast viewers are Japanese, so this makes sense as a Japan-facing promotion.” Some also pointed out that Korean artists have thrown first pitches before, meaning Number_i wasn’t a one-off choice in that respect — background not covered in the original article but worth keeping in mind. As for the autograph-request controversy, there were accounts that no staff or interpreter-like companions were visible with the group, raising a separate question about whether this came down to a planning failure on the organizers’ part.

  • Food Poisoning at Komeo’s Restaurant Confirmed as Salmonella — 5ch: ‘Seven Days Is the Harshest Suspension So Far’

“Komeo,” a YouTuber with 370,000 subscribers, runs the restaurant “Kappo Komeo.” Chilled crab ramen the shop sold on August 22–23 at the Azabu-Juban Summer Festival caused a food poisoning outbreak, and on September 3 Minato Ward confirmed the cause as Salmonella food poisoning and issued the restaurant a seven-day business suspension order. Komeo has once again apologized on X. On the thread, opinions split over whether seven days counts as a harsh or light suspension, with users also debating how the outbreak could happen when the bacteria should be killed by heat, and noting that the food was prepared in the restaurant’s own kitchen rather than at a makeshift festival stall.

    September 3, 2026

On September 3, “Komeo” (370,000 subscribers) once again apologized on X over the food poisoning incident caused by the chilled crab ramen sold at the Azabu-Juban Summer Festival. That same day, Minato Ward announced it had confirmed the case as Salmonella food poisoning and had issued a seven-day business suspension order to “Kappo Komeo,” the restaurant Komeo runs.

On September 3, Minato Ward published the results of an investigation by the Minato Public Health Center on its official website. According to the findings, the case was confirmed as Salmonella food poisoning caused by chilled crab ramen that “Kappo Komeo” prepared in-house and brought to the Azabu-Juban Summer Festival venue to sell on August 22 and 23.

Background and Key Points of This Story

Business suspensions issued by the Minato Public Health Center as administrative penalties are typically just a few days for food poisoning cases where no one has died, and on the thread some pointed out that “seven days is on the harsh end for a current measure,” while others noted it could still be extended depending on how the investigation progresses. Since Salmonella is killed by heating to 75°C for at least a minute, suspicion falls on insufficient heating before serving, or poor handling of reused ingredients or the liquid used as a binder. The word “roten” (stall) led some to picture hasty cooking at a festival food cart, but the dishes were actually prepared in the restaurant’s own kitchen and then carried to the venue to sell — so it’s a misunderstanding to assume the cause was the kind of lax hygiene typical of festival stalls. Whether the restaurant can keep operating is a separate matter from the administrative penalty itself, and the thread also took a rather detached view that whether it survives after the suspension ends will come down to customer turnout and how the restaurant handles things.

  • Daiwa House Restricts Custom Home Orders to ¥50 Million and Up — 5ch: ‘The Era of Ordinary People Buying Houses Is Over’

Daiwa House Industry has decided to scale back orders for newly built detached houses, setting a policy that limits custom home sale prices to ¥50 million and up. The company will concentrate its sales operations in urban areas like Tokyo and Osaka, withdrawing from 23 prefectures. Soaring material and labor costs have eroded profitability in its domestic housing business, prompting a push to raise unit prices and shore up earnings. On 5ch, while some voiced sentiments like “the era of ordinary people being able to buy a house is over,” the thread developed into a practical discussion comparing prices and specs with other builders like Ichijo Komuten and Sekisui House, the differences versus spec-built (tatsuuri) or build-to-order-condition homes, and whether single-story or two-story houses offer better value.

Slightly different point, but build-to-order-condition (kenchiku-jōken-tsuki) homes are basically spec-built houses (in practice you can only change things like exterior color or interior fixtures), so you can build one for just a bit more than a spec-built home.

Though spec-built homes themselves used to run around ¥15-20 million not too long ago — now they seem to be topping ¥20 million.

    Background and Key Points

The 23 prefectures Daiwa House is withdrawing from include many cold-climate, heavy-snowfall regions such as Hokkaido and Tohoku, suggesting that the cost burden of snow removal and snow-resistant specifications influenced the withdrawal decision. Meanwhile, the per-tsubo price of custom-built homes has risen by roughly ¥200,000-300,000 over the past 3-4 years, driven by the simultaneous pressures of yen-weakness-driven material cost increases and labor shortages in construction. On the thread, people with actual home-building experience shared concrete accounts of how the total cost can swing by several million yen depending on options like flooring and kitchens. Note, however, that the original article is subscriber-only, so details on the 23 prefectures being exited and Daiwa House’s future earnings targets can only be confirmed via the original source.

  • Komeo’s Restaurant Hit With Business Suspension Order — 5ch: “The Fanbase Will Carry It, No Damage Done”

Following a mass food-poisoning outbreak linked to chilled crab ramen sold by food YouTuber “Komeo” (370,000 subscribers) at the Azabu Juban Summer Festival, Tokyo’s Minato Ward confirmed on September 3 that Salmonella was the cause and issued a seven-day business suspension order against Komeo’s restaurant, “Kappo Komeo” (*kappo* = a style of traditional Japanese cuisine restaurant). The restaurant’s planned booth at the Tokyo Curry Expo that same day was also cancelled. On 5ch (a major Japanese anonymous message board), users traded theories about the infection route and drew comparisons to past food-poisoning cases, while opinions split over whether the restaurant can survive once it reopens.

On September 3, Komeo (370,000 subscribers) once again apologized on X over the food-poisoning incident caused by the chilled crab ramen he sold at the Azabu Juban Summer Festival. That same day, Minato Ward announced it had confirmed the case as Salmonella-caused food poisoning and had issued a seven-day business suspension order against Komeo’s restaurant, Kappo Komeo.

Minato Ward confirms Salmonella as the cause

On September 3, Minato Ward published the findings of an investigation by the Minato Public Health Center on its official website. According to the report, the ward concluded that Salmonella food poisoning stemmed from chilled crab ramen that Kappo Komeo prepared in-house on August 22 and 23 and brought to sell at the Azabu Juban Summer Festival venue.

    Re: #72
I haven't checked every case so I could be wrong,
but from what I looked up, it's actually pretty hard to get arrested or sued over food poisoning alone.
The cases where you actually see an arrest tend to be when someone keeps operating illegally after already being hit with a suspension order.

This was a case from last year —
a traditional restaurant got a suspension order for food poisoning,

    caused another outbreak,
    and got arrested.

    Background and points of debate

A business suspension for food poisoning is an administrative penalty under Japan’s Food Sanitation Act, and its length varies depending on how the investigation goes and the scale of harm. Thread posters noted that suspensions are “usually around three days,” and speculated that the seven-day length here implies a certain scale of damage — but beyond Minato Ward’s official announcement, the exact victim count and the detailed basis for the penalty aren’t publicly known, so any numbers floating around the thread remain pure speculation on posters’ part. It was also pointed out that food-poisoning cases rarely lead to prosecution or arrest in practice; the examples shared were ones where additional bad conduct — such as continuing to operate in defiance of a suspension order — stacked on top before it became a criminal matter. As for the restaurant’s future, opinions split between those who think it can survive by catering mainly to regulars and die-hard fans, and those who think it’s doomed once ordinary customers stay away — no consensus was reached.

  • “Venue101” Summer Festival Special Sparks Buzz With Its Close-Up Camera Coverage of Juice=Juice

NHK General TV’s music program “Venue101” will air a special on September 5 at 11:00 PM featuring behind-the-scenes cameras at summer music festivals. The preview highlights footage of Juice=Juice at LuckyFes, including a quiz segment revealing their tricks for keeping their look flawless even after wrapping a live stage performance. On 5ch’s Hello! Project board, posters expressed surprise that “it’s rare for NHK to get this much access,” while others brought up the long-running fan theory that landing a Venue101 feature is a sign of an upcoming appearance on NHK’s Kohaku Uta Gassen (the year-end Red and White Song Battle). Meanwhile, fans of other groups who performed at the same festival voiced disappointment that their favorites didn’t get the same close-up treatment.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

“Venue101” is an NHK General TV music program airing late night on Saturdays, known for combining behind-the-scenes artist coverage with live performances. Because artists previously featured on the show have gone on to appear on NHK’s Kohaku Uta Gassen (the Red and White Song Battle) that same year, Hello! Project fans have long treated a Venue101 feature as an informal sign of a coming Kohaku selection. That said, this is purely fan folklore — NHK has never stated it as an official selection criterion. Other Hello! Project groups also performed at LuckyFes, but this round of NHK’s close-up coverage appears to have centered on Juice=Juice, and reactions in the thread ranged from excitement to a bit of envy over how the subjects of the coverage were chosen.

  • Hello! Project’s “J.P ROOM” Group Photo Has 5ch Saying “Almost Everyone Is Cute”

On the 5ch board “morningcoffee,” which covers Hello! Project-related topics, a group photo of members belonging to something called “J.P ROOM” was posted, sparking a wave of comments like “almost everyone is cute” and “what a beauty.” At the same time, the thread lit up with debate over exactly who was and wasn’t in the shot, with posts like “Karin-chan’s not there” and “isn’t the cutest one missing?” Several posters even tried to deduce who had picked and posted the photo based on whose expression was best-timed or least blurry — turning what started as a simple looks discussion into a deeper bit of fan-to-fan detective work.

    Background and Talking Points

The thread appeared on “morningcoffee,” a board dedicated to Hello! Project-related topics, though the text of the thread doesn’t spell out exactly what “J.P ROOM” refers to. The replies show fans getting worked up over a single group photo, mainly debating who is and isn’t pictured. Some members, like Karin-chan and Uemura Akari, were mentioned by name even though they weren’t actually in the shot — and in at least one case, a claim that someone was missing was corrected once another poster pointed out she was there (“she’s right there at the bottom”), showing how much the debate hinged on simply reading the photo correctly. Several posts also tried to guess who selected and posted the image, floating theories about it being the work of a “Fukumura fan” or an “Ishida fan,” based on whose expression looked best and whose looked blurriest — a classic 5ch move where fans read into a photo’s framing and split-second timing as a way of guessing which member’s fanbase is behind it. The article doesn’t confirm any official agency or unit structure behind “J.P ROOM,” so that context remains speculation on the posters’ part rather than verified fact.

  • “I Just Don’t Get It”: 5ch Debates Why Fans Pour Money Into Their ‘Oshi’

In a thread that kicked off with the post “I don’t get how idol otaku feel…,” the original poster asked why anyone would spend money on an idol who’s basically a stranger to them. 5ch users tried one explanation after another — comparing it to hostess clubs, watching theater, cheering for a baseball team, or the closeness you can have with underground idols. But no matter what reason was offered, the OP kept coming back with “that still doesn’t sit right with me!”, never quite convinced. In the end, the discussion wrapped up without a clear conclusion. Along the way, someone pointed out that “understanding and empathizing are two different things,” highlighting just how hard it is to bridge a genuine gap in values.

All you're doing is analytically putting someone's feelings into words so you can feel like you understand them.
If you were empathizing, fine, but honestly that's kind of a rude thing to do.
You're basically that guy who asks "so how did that feel?"
    36AnonymousSep 3, 2026 20:20
    Re: #30
It'd be fine if I could understand it just by imagining it, but I can't — that's the whole problem.
Understanding and empathizing aren't the same thing.

    Re: #3
You're paying for time spent with them.
Isn't that basically the same as a hostess club?
    58AnonymousSep 3, 2026 20:28
    Re: #55
At a hostess club you actually get to share her time to some extent, and get to make her spend her time on you.
What does an idol give you in return?
    61AnonymousSep 3, 2026 20:30
    Re: #58
    Depends on the idol's level.
    66AnonymousSep 3, 2026 20:32
    Re: #58
With idols built around the idea of "getting fans to spend money,"
the more you spend, the more time you get with her.
You get more say too — you can even talk to management and help shape events to some extent.
    59AnonymousSep 3, 2026 20:29
Honestly, I don't get people who dislike idols.
Young women — you like those, right?
Cute women — you like those too, right?
Women who flatter you — you like that as well, right?
So why would anyone dislike idols?
    64AnonymousSep 3, 2026 20:31
    Re: #59
It's no different from hosts or hostess-club girls tricking people out of their money.
At least hosts and hostesses direct some effort toward actually caring about you — idols don't do that at all.
    There's no sincerity in it.
    62AnonymousSep 3, 2026 20:30
Either way they're out of reach, so I don't get why people bother with underground idols — you might as well just go with the good-looking Sakamichi girls (mainstream idol groups like Nogizaka46).
    67AnonymousSep 3, 2026 20:32

Because you can actually connect with underground idols.

You mean like Johnny's fans versus underground idol otaku?
I get that it runs the gamut, but what I don't understand in the first place is sacrificing investment in yourself just to support somebody else.
    76AnonymousSep 3, 2026 20:36
    Re: #68
Originally, oshi-katsu (fan-support activities) was something done by people who couldn't hope for marriage, but the mass media hyped it up and now regular people and young folks do it too.

Normally you'd pour that energy into supporting your own kids —
this is just people without kids redirecting it toward idols instead.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

The psychology behind spending money on “oshi-katsu” (supporting one’s favorite idol or celebrity) is a recurring debate topic on 5ch, and this time the discussion unfolded through comparisons to hostess clubs, the sex industry, watching baseball, and visiting host clubs, all in search of a “convincing reason.” What stands out is that even when offered multiple explanations — that cheering someone on makes you feel accomplished, that it’s like watching theater, or the closeness unique to underground idols — the original poster kept responding that it “still doesn’t sit right,” no matter what. This shows just how fundamentally hard it is to bridge differences in values and money sense through explanation alone. At the same time, some responses included sweeping generalizations, like the claim that “male idol otaku are just lolicons” — applying a tendency seen in some cases to the whole group, which doesn’t reflect the reality of everyone involved in oshi-katsu. It’s also worth noting that anonymous-board threads like this tend to attract extreme opinions, and actual spending behavior among “oshi-katsu” fans ranges widely, from low-cost concert attendance to merchandise collecting — it’s not something that can be reduced to the simplified terms of this thread’s debate.

  • Kinashi Noritake ‘Mercedes-Trashing’ Scandal: 5ch Says ‘He’s Covering Up How Unfunny He Is With Bizarre Stunts’

As a so-called “Mercedes-trashing scandal” involving comedy duo Tunnels’ Noritake Kinashi stirs up controversy on social media, renewed attention is being paid to a junior comedian who had previously criticized Tunnels’ style, saying they were “only popular within the industry, not with the general public.” On 5ch, opinions were split — some compared him to his partner Takaaki Ishibashi, others reminisced about the duo’s peak years when “Minasan no Okage Desu” pulled huge ratings, and others pointed to his current popularity on TBS Radio.

Takaaki Ishibashi was actually funny. This guy's the only unfunny one.

Kinashi's already 64. He's made plenty of money over the years — losing work now wouldn't bother him one bit.
    13AnonymousSep 3, 2026 19:27
He's just an old man scraping by on radio and Abema gigs — I doubt even he thinks he's popular anymore.
    16AnonymousSep 3, 2026 19:27
He was on primetime for 30 years, though. He really was popular back then.
    24AnonymousSep 3, 2026 19:31
    But apparently
    on TBS Radio
    this buddy-buddy old guy
    is hugely popular.
    27AnonymousSep 3, 2026 19:32
    Re: #24
    Popular within that tiny niche?
Barely anyone even listens to radio anymore.
    25AnonymousSep 3, 2026 19:31
He was a top talent from the era when TV was at its absolute brightest.
    29AnonymousSep 3, 2026 19:33
Kinashi's holding back, just tapping people lightly.
He should charge in with an excavator like Yamazuka Ai (a musician known for wild, destructive performance stunts).
    31AnonymousSep 3, 2026 19:34
This is exactly what everyone was thinking back when 'Minasan no Okage Desu' was just nonstop bullying of the staff.
    32AnonymousSep 3, 2026 19:34
Has Tunnels ever actually been a hit outside the entertainment industry itself?
    47AnonymousSep 3, 2026 19:40
Back when they were doing the Yaen thing (a music unit Kinashi led), they still seemed to have mainstream appeal.

Weren't there members who ended up dying after that group disbanded…?
    54AnonymousSep 3, 2026 19:42
Maybe it's because the gloomy loner types who got picked on during Tunnels' heyday are the ones running society now lol

It's because everyone's now recognized as having human rights and a voice.
That's one of the upsides of social media, I guess.
    58AnonymousSep 3, 2026 19:44
The way random viewers who had nothing to do with it started obsessing over ratings numbers — that's definitely Tunnels' influence.

Didn't Drifters, Sanma, and Takeshi do the same thing?

There was a sketch at the end of one of Shimura's shows that self-deprecatingly joked about ratings.

He's an old man now, so of course he's out of step with today's sensibilities.

    Re: #68
It was the same back then as it is now.
Any sensible adult at the time already frowned on Tunnels' show.
It's just that the kids and young people of that era have now grown into the age and values of the 'sensible adults' of that time.
If a kid today could actually watch that sketch, they'd be laughing at it.
    69AnonymousSep 3, 2026 19:47
Yamauchi's just doing insider jokes with Chidori and the rest of his crew too — not funny either.

Kobunsha is done for — even JJ magazine is gone now.
It's all pageview-chasing clickbait these days, pandering to 'the voice of the internet' for that adrenaline-dopamine hit.
They're probably not even using real reporters, just some random web writer.
    76AnonymousSep 3, 2026 19:49
No, back in the 'Minasan no Okage Desu' days they really were popular.
    80AnonymousSep 3, 2026 19:52
    Re: #76
Back then they seemed like genuinely skilled performers, kind of in the Ken Shimura mold.
This is from childhood memory so I could be off,
but Ishibashi came across as the wild, unpredictable one, and Kinashi as the calm, sensible one.
Somewhere along the way, though, Kinashi became the one who can't read the room at all — the reckless, out-of-control character.
    87AnonymousSep 3, 2026 19:54
They pulled 25% ratings on Wednesday with 'Nama de Dara Dara Ikasete,' 25% on Thursday with 'Minasan no Okage,' and 25% on Saturday with the 'Nerutonkougeidan' special — that's a level of pull you can't chalk up to mere insider appeal.
    93AnonymousSep 3, 2026 19:56
    Re: #87
That was an era when TV viewers all shared the same circle just by watching TV together.
It's just that the word 'insider' makes it sound smaller than it actually was.

Background and key points of this discussion

From the late 1980s into the ’90s, Tunnels simultaneously hosted flagship TBS programs — including “Tunnels no Minasan no Okage Desu” — and there was a stretch when they pulled high ratings on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday alike. Much of the thread discussion centered on the gap between that “peak TV-era popularity” and how the act is received now, in an age of heightened compliance awareness. Some pointed out that bits which weren’t seen as problematic back then are now more likely to be criticized as “clique humor” or “picking on your own crew.” Since the original article’s body was abridged, this piece alone can’t pin down exactly which “junior comedian” made the critical remarks, and the thread itself saw pushback along the lines of “isn’t the person criticizing them just as clique-y?” — so no single consensus emerged.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Geinou/Sports News+) thread “Noritake Kinashi’s ‘Mercedes-Trashing Scandal’ Renews Attention on a Junior Comedian’s Past Critique That Tunnels Are ‘Only Popular Within the Industry, Not With the Public’.”
