  • Former Miss UTokyo Stuffs Tissues Up Both Nostrils at Concert, Apologizes: ‘I Feel Bad for the Performers’

Asa Kamiya (26), a TV personality and former Miss University of Tokyo, revealed on X that her nose started running during a classical concert, so she stuffed tissues into both nostrils to keep listening — and apologized afterward, explaining, “I feel bad for the performers.” This wasn’t a response to backlash; she volunteered the explanation herself. Reactions on 5channel were split between those who saw it as thoughtful — a way to avoid sniffling noises — and cooler responses along the lines of “Did she really need to announce this?” and “Is this even news?”

Oh, it was just a runny nose?
I thought she meant she couldn't stand someone's body odor.
    11AnonymousSep 28, 2026 11:08
She's just listening, so she could've simply tilted her head back.
    12AnonymousSep 28, 2026 11:09
Wearing a mask over the stuffed nose would've worked fine.
Actually, if you've got a cold, just don't go.
    22AnonymousSep 28, 2026 11:15
If she'd been sniffling loudly that'd be one thing, but what's actually wrong with this?
    24AnonymousSep 28, 2026 11:15
No matter how sharp you are mentally, if your parents never taught you basic social sense and manners, you end up doing stuff like this without a second thought.
    25AnonymousSep 28, 2026 11:16
Wouldn't just pinching her nose have been enough? Why stuff tissue in there?
    27AnonymousSep 28, 2026 11:18
That's basically "Sick White House syndrome" (a riff on "sick building syndrome").
    29AnonymousSep 28, 2026 11:18
I can't even tell where she is in the first photo — guess that makes me an old geezer.
    30AnonymousSep 28, 2026 11:19
Couldn't she have just stuffed tissue up her nose and worn a mask over it?

Is Nikkan Sports really so short on stories that they cover every little tweet like this?
There's no shortage of real news out there — are today's journalists just doing internet searches instead of hitting the field?
It really is the end of an era (´・ω・`)
    33AnonymousSep 28, 2026 11:20
For a classical concert, this beats someone sniffling wetly through the whole thing by a mile.
This should honestly become standard etiquette.
    34AnonymousSep 28, 2026 11:21
If it's a contagious illness, I'd rather she just skip it instead of pushing through.
    36AnonymousSep 28, 2026 11:21
If anything, isn't she just being considerate of the people around her instead of sniffling loudly?
I've done the mask-and-tissue combo myself.
    37AnonymousSep 28, 2026 11:22
Lucky it was just a runny nose — if it were ear discharge, that'd be truly awful.
    38AnonymousSep 28, 2026 11:23
The concert would've gone on fine without her there,
and she might've passed her cold to the people sitting nearby anyway.
    39AnonymousSep 28, 2026 11:24
Saying "I feel bad" is just her showing off how considerate she is —
none of the performers even noticed in the first place.
    40AnonymousSep 28, 2026 11:24
If she'd tucked both ends of one tissue into her nostrils like a bull's nose ring, at least it would've gotten a laugh.
    41AnonymousSep 28, 2026 11:25
Sounds like a quick-witted, decent girl to me.
    42AnonymousSep 28, 2026 11:26
Why bother announcing this at all?
    Nobody cares, honestly.
    43AnonymousSep 28, 2026 11:27
If she really wanted to be considerate, she should've just posted that she couldn't make it to the concert.
    44AnonymousSep 28, 2026 11:27
Don't turn this into an article just because you're out of real stories.
    48AnonymousSep 28, 2026 11:29
Nobody even called her out, and yet she posted it herself — that's some serious attention-seeking (lol)
    56AnonymousSep 28, 2026 11:34

    69AnonymousSep 28, 2026 11:42
She had to add "because my nose suddenly started running," or else people would ask why she came to the event with a cold in the first place.
    81AnonymousSep 28, 2026 11:45
    Re: #69
Yeah, if you're absorbed in the performance and glance over the audience only to spot a woman with tissues stuffed up her nose, you'd definitely crack up.

Background and Key Points of This Story

Asa Kamiya took part in the “Miss University of Tokyo Contest” while a student there, and after graduating has continued her career as a TV personality while attending the university’s Graduate School of Public Policy. This particular story centers on her voluntarily sharing — and apologizing for — a personal experience from a classical concert on X. What stands out is that she got ahead of any criticism, explaining the situation before anyone had actually called her out, and reactions split between people who found the whole announcement unnecessary (“Why post this at all?”) and those who saw some logic in wanting to avoid making sniffling noises. At classical concerts, sounds like sniffling or rustling clothing tend to stand out sharply during quiet passages, which makes this kind of etiquette debate a familiar one. Some comments veering into mockery of her background or looks have been left out of this roundup as personal attacks rather than genuine discussion. It’s also worth noting that quite a few commenters were skeptical this was newsworthy at all — a useful read on how audiences feel about this kind of lightweight celebrity story.

  • PS5 Pro Lottery Sale Comes with Purchase Conditions — 5ch: “How Long Are They Gonna Keep This Scarcity Marketing Up?”

On September 28, the Sony Store began accepting purchase applications for the PS5 Pro. The price is 137,980 yen (tax included), and if the number of applicants exceeds the planned number of units for sale, winners will be chosen by lottery. On 5ch, opinions were split between questions over why the console is still hard to find so long after launch, and debate over the fairness of a purchase requirement limiting eligibility to existing users who have logged at least 60 hours of play on PSN within the past year. Some saw it as an attempt to stop scalpers from buying up stock, while others countered that existing users who meet the requirement could still resell the console themselves.

We are now accepting purchase applications for the PlayStation®5 Pro through the Sony Store, starting today, Monday, September 28.

There are conditions for applying and purchasing. Please note in advance that if the number of applications exceeds the planned number of units for sale, winners will be selected by lottery.

    Re: #79
The buyback price might drop by the time it's delivered to you. Take anything for granted and you'll get burned

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

The PS5 Pro has been chronically hard to find since its November 2024 launch, and posters in the thread testified that stock had all but dried up since around June. The newly introduced purchase requirement — logging at least 60 hours of play within the past year — appears designed to screen out applicants who aren’t existing users and are simply looking to resell. However, some pointed out that this doesn’t actually stop existing users who qualify from applying purely to flip the console, and skepticism about how effective the measure really is remains strong. Some posts attributed the shortage to rising costs from surging semiconductor and memory prices, but that’s an individual poster’s speculation, not an official explanation from Sony — worth keeping in mind. The claim that used buyback prices have climbed to around 190,000 yen is likewise just a rate quoted by certain resellers, one that could shift depending on supply and demand once sales end.

  • On a ¥400K Take-Home Salary, He Bought a ¥6M Toyota Alphard — ‘Residual Value’ Financing Brings It Down to ¥70K/Month; 5ch: ‘That’s Living Like Nobility’

Kenji (a pseudonym), 45, manages an electronics retail store and lives with his wife and their junior-high-school-age son. He earns roughly ¥6 million a year and pays ¥120,000 a month on his mortgage. A news article making the rounds on 5ch described how he ended up signing for a ¥6 million Toyota Alphard: a standard auto loan would have cost him about ¥110,000 a month, but he was talked into a “residual value credit” (zan-kure) plan that brought it down to ¥70,000 a month instead. The thread was split — some asked whether he’d actually thought through the balloon payment waiting at the end of the contract, others argued that residual-value credit is really just “renting” the car rather than a genuine loan, and some said they understood the impulse to buy a car beyond your means just to keep up appearances.

Kenji (pseudonym, 45) manages an electronics retail store. He currently lives with his wife and his junior-high-school-age son. His annual income is about ¥6 million and he has roughly ¥4 million in savings, but he’s paying down a ¥120,000-a-month mortgage.

But once he added the trim level and options he wanted, the car’s price came to about ¥6 million. Kenji’s monthly take-home pay is around ¥400,000, out of which ¥120,000 goes to the mortgage. Taking out a standard auto loan would have meant monthly payments of roughly ¥110,000.

“With this plan, your monthly payment comes to about ¥70,000.”

It works the same as a lease, basically
You take out a new loan against the residual value

    65AnonymousSep 28, 2026 11:02
    Re: #63
A lease is just a rental

    Background and Points of Debate

Residual-value credit (“zan-kure”) is a financing scheme that calculates monthly payments after subtracting an estimated future trade-in value (the “residual”) several years down the line — functionally, it sits somewhere between a standard loan and a lease. The monthly payments look lighter, but interest keeps accruing on that residual portion too, so to keep driving the car you eventually need to refinance or settle the balance in one lump sum, meaning the total cost tends to balloon past what a regular loan would cost. Commenters on the thread pointed out that “you can’t just pay off the residual with a normal loan” and that “you can refinance it, but nobody knows what the rate will be” — the full mechanics of the plan are easy to miss from the sales pitch alone, which sets buyers up for misunderstandings. Some also noted that since the chip shortage, certain dealers have prioritized residual-value contracts because they’re more profitable, leaving customers who want a standard loan waiting far longer for delivery — suggesting vanity isn’t the whole story here.

A thread titled “Carrying Two Phones Is the Only Way to Go,” posted on 5channel’s “Morning Coffee” board, drew a stream of real-world examples — people running both an iPhone and an Android device, or using dual-SIM setups as a hedge against carrier outages. Pushback followed too, with some arguing “one dual-SIM phone is plenty” or that carrying two phones is just gadget hobbyism dressed up as practicality, splitting the thread between a practicality camp and a minimalist camp. The conversation then drifted into how people lug around laptops, Chromebooks, and tablets, sparking a lively side debate about setting up a workspace on the go.

Anyone who starts an iPhone vs. Android flame war thread is an idiot.
    Can't you just buy both?
(Case in point) went out for McDonald's breakfast this morning and realized I'd forgotten my iPhone.
    2AnonymousSep 28, 2026 09:48
Best strategy: own a pile of phones and stay simultaneously connected on every single one ("dōsetsu" — running concurrent connections, e.g. to pad live-stream viewer counts).
    3AnonymousSep 28, 2026 09:49
If you're a single guy living alone with just one internet line, you're screwed the moment that line goes down — so I can't relax unless I've got both an Android and an iPhone on different carriers.
And yeah, docomo actually goes down a fair amount.

    Re: #3
    Just use dual-SIM, problem solved.
    5AnonymousSep 28, 2026 09:59
If all you need is to switch carriers, just get a dual-SIM phone and switch on that.
    12AnonymousSep 28, 2026 10:13
    Re: #5
That's actually more of a hassle.
One line per phone is simpler.
Get an iPhone 17e and a mid-range Android, and the combined price is still less than one expensive phone like an 18 Pro or a pricey Sony model — you can have two for the price of one.
    7AnonymousSep 28, 2026 10:01
Are flame-war threads really that fascinating to you?

If you're on docomo's irumo 0.5GB plan, you get access to docomo's free Wi-Fi in a lot of places.
Just put the cheapest possible plan on your second SIM and that's plenty.
    Honestly, Povo works fine too.
Anyone who can't manage two phones is a jobless shut-in.
    11AnonymousSep 28, 2026 10:12
If you want two phones, just use your current one plus whatever you had before you upgraded.

I've got five phones: an iPhone 15, an SE2, a Galaxy, an OPPO, and a Xiaomi.
Only the 15 I paid for outright in cash — the rest I picked up for ¥0 or ¥1,000 upfront through carrier-switching deals on cheap MVNOs like Rakuten, OCN, and IIJ.
I use each one for a different purpose.
Even so, running all five together — with some number-porting tricks — costs me under ¥5,000 a month.
    30AnonymousSep 28, 2026 10:29
Android or iPhone, whatever, I don't care —
    but isn't one phone enough?

Messing around with different models is fun, and it keeps you from getting stuck in one mindset.
They're basically toys, and toys are fun no matter how many you have — managing them individually isn't so bad either.

    46AnonymousSep 28, 2026 10:42

What if the battery had died anyway?
    47AnonymousSep 28, 2026 10:46
I'm the anxious type, so I used to carry a backup phone in case my main one suddenly broke.

    48AnonymousSep 28, 2026 10:47
Sure, it's sometimes needed for otaku activities, but you can just ask someone else to help with that — one phone is plenty.
    49AnonymousSep 28, 2026 10:47
Feels like the more capable someone is, the fewer things they actually carry.
    51AnonymousSep 28, 2026 10:50
That's just a gadget nerd rationalizing carrying two phones as an end in itself.
    52AnonymousSep 28, 2026 10:53
I keep thinking a tablet would be handy, but I still haven't bought one.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

The “dual-SIM” setup discussed in the thread packs two carrier lines into a single device, and it has become increasingly popular in recent years as a way to combine cheap MVNO plans and eSIMs into a hedge against network outages. Carrying two separate phones, meanwhile, often comes down to practical economics too — keeping an old device as a backup instead of trading it in when upgrading, or picking up an extra handset for next to nothing (sometimes just a few hundred yen, sometimes free) through carrier-switching promotions. The clash in the thread between the “one-phone” camp and the “multiple-phone” camp ultimately comes down to differing values — prioritizing connection stability and traveling light versus enjoying a dedicated device for each purpose or simply collecting gadgets — and as the back-and-forth in the replies shows, there’s no single right answer here.

  • Manga About a Disabled Protagonist Getting Tormented Sparks Backlash — 5ch: ‘At Least Do Some Research’

A manga depicting a disabled woman subjected to relentless cruelty has become a hot topic on 5ch, after details emerged of how an editor decided to greenlight it for serialization. The series itself has been known for a while, but the recent announcement of an anime adaptation reignited questions about compliance standards and the author’s apparent lack of research. Rather than objecting to the mere depiction of a disabled character, most posters in the thread took issue with how the protagonist’s personality is written and with the author’s research (or lack thereof), sparking debate over why the equally brutal ‘Ushijima the Loan Shark’ gets treated so differently.

There's kind of a growing trend in society where pointing out blunt, harsh truths is seen as tactless.
I sort of sensed that coming back when the whole genetics controversy was stirring things up.
    78AnonymousSep 28, 2026 10:03
    Re: #76
Even if that was the intent, I think the main issue is the author is too ignorant for it to actually read as realism.
Once it creates an echo chamber where ignorant people hype each other up and that gets broadly promoted, that's when real trouble starts.
    80AnonymousSep 28, 2026 10:05
    Re: #76
You do see a bit of a pattern where people who don't actually understand reality all that well go around shouting 'this is how the real world works! We're the smart ones who get it!' — and then get dogpiled for it.
    84AnonymousSep 28, 2026 10:10
    At least do some research.
Even though 'Ushijima the Loan Shark' is the same kind of shock-value manga, it was built on real research to get to that level.

    Re: #84
    Fair point.
You can tell manga like 'Stardust Prince' (another shock-value manga on the Manga One app, about a host club) actually did its research too.
    105AnonymousSep 28, 2026 10:32

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

This isn’t the first time a ‘shock-value’ work centered on a disabled protagonist has sparked conflict — debates over how fiction portrays vulnerable people have flared up before, including past controversy over genetics-related content. In the thread, opinion split between criticizing the mere fact that a disabled character was depicted versus criticizing the protagonist’s personality and the author’s lack of research, with the latter view being the majority position. Works cited for comparison, such as ‘Ushijima the Loan Shark’ and ‘Stardust Prince,’ were praised for being grounded in actual research despite similarly shock-value subject matter, framed as the key difference from this work. At the same time, some posts conflated this criticism with a separate controversy over the author’s past discriminatory remarks tied to a different work — worth noting for readers, since the two are distinct incidents.

Commenters pointed out that individual members’ personal accounts, like Haruka Kudo’s and Maria Makino’s, actually beat the group’s official account, and someone posted year-by-year data tracking Morning Musume’s official account since its 2018 launch. 66AnonymousSep 28, 2026 09:25
I wonder if there's any way to actually analyze how many of these are active accounts

    Background and Key Points

Underlying this thread is an informal tally some 5ch users keep of official social media follower counts for each Hello! Project group. In the log from late last September posted as comment #25, Morning Musume was in the low 200,000s while Juice=Juice was only in the 120,000s — a substantial gap — which suggests that reaching 210,000 now represents a sharp jump in a short span. Commenters repeatedly mention the ‘more’ clip as the trigger for the follower surge, but the thread never explains exactly what event this refers to, and it can’t be pinned down from the material in this article alone. There’s also a split between those who treat the raw follower count as proof of rising popularity and those who argue that how many of those new followers are genuinely ‘active’ accounts is a separate question — a point plain numerical comparisons can’t settle. The fact that personal accounts like Haruka Kudo’s and Maria Makino’s outdo their own group’s official account is likewise a recurring topic within the Hello! Project fandom.

※This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Hello! Project) thread “Juice=Juice’s Instagram follower count has hit a whopping 210,000!!!!!!!!!!“.

  • Ariyoshi Hiroyuki Claps Back at Backlash Over Teasing Snow Man’s Fukazawa: ‘I’ll Tell Him Never to Come Back’

On September 28, 2026, comedian Ariyoshi Hiroyuki drew criticism on X over how he teased Snow Man’s Fukazawa Shinya, a guest on TV Tokyo’s “Ariyoshi Eeeee!” In response, Ariyoshi wrote, “I’ll tell him myself never to come on again,” which quelled the backlash and drew praise from Fukazawa’s fans, with comments like “so kind” and “handled like a true pro.” On 5ch, however, posters noted that the article never actually specifies what was said, making the sequence of events hard to follow, with some reading Ariyoshi’s reply as sarcasm rather than kindness, and others expressing unease at the broader pattern of fans thanking comedians for “teasing” their idols.

    September 28, 2026, 8:58 AM

Comedian Ariyoshi Hiroyuki (52) updated his X account on the 28th, reacting to posts circulating on social media about Snow Man’s Fukazawa Shinya (34), who appeared as a guest on TV Tokyo’s “Ariyoshi Eeeee!” — and the response has become a major talking point.

Fukazawa appeared on the show as a guest, joining Ariyoshi and others for games and talk segments. Following the broadcast, some users on X criticized the way Ariyoshi teased Fukazawa during the show.

Just tell Fukazawa directly and properly that he can't come back, then

    Background and Talking Points

The original article never reveals exactly what was said to Fukazawa, and on 5ch, posters repeatedly pointed out that “the whole sequence of events is completely unclear.” Opinions were also split on how to read Ariyoshi’s line, “I’ll tell him myself never to come on again” — some took it at face value as a generous response, while others read it as sarcasm aimed at his critics. The pattern of idol fans thanking comedians for “teasing” their idols is itself a recurring flashpoint on 5ch, and this time drew both warm reactions and unease in equal measure. Because the original critical post was deleted, the exact wording and intent behind it remain unconfirmed — only the reported sequence of events has spread as established fact, which is worth keeping in mind.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Geinou/Sports News+) thread “[Entertainment] Ariyoshi Hiroyuki responds to backlash over teasing Snow Man’s Fukazawa Shinya: “I’ll tell him myself never to come on again” [Ailuropoda melanoleuca★].”

  • Yusei Kikuchi Closes Out Season 1-7 with 4.92 ERA — 5ch: ‘Makes More Than Japan’s National Team’

Angels lefty Yusei Kikuchi started against the Mariners on the 27th (28th Japan time), taking the loss after allowing 3 runs over 5 innings. That closes out his 8th major-league season at 1 win, 7 losses, and a 4.92 ERA. Since he arrived as a big-ticket 3-year free-agent signing, thread reactions centered on whether his results justify his salary (roughly ¥9.5 billion over three years). Comparisons to the pay of Japan’s national soccer team players, ERA comparisons with fellow lefty Tomoyuki Sugano, and speculation about a possible comeback next season all fueled a split verdict on his performance.

    Re: #33
This year they sent Klassen back to the minors so Kikuchi could return to the rotation,
but Klassen was actually pitching better.
At this point it's shaky whether Kikuchi even locks down a rotation spot next season.
Detmers and Ureña are locks (assuming Detmers isn't traded in the offseason).
After that it's probably R. Johnson, G. Rodriguez, Klassen, and Kikuchi battling for the rest.
And the Angels have plenty of good prospects behind them too — Bremner, the #2 overall prospect, plus guys like Dana and other young arms with high strikeout rates.

Background and key points of this discussion

Yusei Kikuchi signed with the Blue Jays in 2023 on a 3-year deal reported at the time at roughly ¥9.5 billion total, then moved to the Angels partway through 2025. The thread’s central fault line was whether his results justify that salary — comparisons to the pay of Japan’s national soccer team and to Tomoyuki Sugano’s ERA came up repeatedly, while others pointed out his FIP and xFIP haven’t worsened and his velocity hasn’t dropped, fueling hope for a bounce-back next season. Commenters also noted the Angels had never finished a season with 100 losses before this one, and that the club’s new owner — a hedge-fund figure — reportedly still sees Kikuchi as “a lefty with trade value,” meaning front-office circumstances, not just stats, are shaping how he’s judged. Worth noting: the claim that his WBC outing damaged his shoulder is thread speculation, not a confirmed fact.

  • JoJo Part 7 Anime’s Rap Ending Theme Sparks 5ch Uproar: ‘Way Too Lame’

A rap track used as the ending theme for the anime adaptation of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 7 (Steel Ball Run) has ignited debate on 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyou G” board, with posters calling it “way too lame.” The thread went beyond simple pans of the song itself: some argued the past openings and endings (Part 3’s “Ora Ora Ora Ora,” or the Western tracks reportedly hand-picked by creator Hirohiko Araki) were already plenty lame, others questioned the production decision to go with a rap style in the first place, and still others debated the different ways anime songs versus hip-hop tend to be received. What started as one-sided criticism turned into a much broader back-and-forth.

Turns out what people actually wanted was a proper anime song
If so, just get Creepy Nuts to make it

YOASOBI's rap parts were still better than this
    69AnonymousSep 28, 2026 08:19
Anime songs are beloved and huge hits worldwide, while Japanese hip-hop gets rejected across the board internationally
Guess that settles it: hip-hop ranks way below anime songs

Creepy Nuts count as anime songs too, don't they

    Re: #68
Most people saying this song is lame don't think anime songs in general are lame
Probably just because they're used to hearing them all the time
But anime songs ARE lame too, honestly
So singling this one out as 'lame' feels a bit off

    Re: #71
I don't know SBR well, but isn't it a serious story where people keep dying one after another?
Wouldn't a quieter, more somber song fit better?
Given it's set in the American Old West era, some people probably want that kind of mood too

    lmaooooo

Background and key points of this discussion

The JoJo anime series has a history of distinctive opening and ending productions for each part, and the use of Western songs or tracks personally chosen by the series supervisor (such as “Last Train Home,” mentioned in comments #50 and #56) has often become a talking point. This time the target was the original rap track written for the Part 7 (Steel Ball Run) ending, and the thread mixed two distinct threads of criticism: one focused on the song’s low quality on its own merits, and another on dissatisfaction with the production choice to break from the series’ usual pattern without delivering the quality to back it up. As seen in comments #13, #20, and #101, some pushed back that past openings were plenty lame too, so this wasn’t simply a case of “only this one is bad.” One point readers might miss is that most of the criticism was aimed at the producers’ decision-making and the song’s composition, not at attacking the artist personally — the thread as a whole wasn’t centered on personal attacks.

  • Maria Makino’s Graduation Episode on ‘Lovit!’ Gets a Makeover Segment with Yuri Ebihara — 5ch: ‘Ebi-chan is on a whole different level’

On the September 28 broadcast of TBS’s “Lovit!”, Maria Makino, who is graduating from her role as a season regular, appeared in a makeover segment styled personally by her idol, Yuri Ebihara (“Ebi-chan”). In the 5ch live-discussion thread, viewers noted that the show avoided spoiling the transformation by dimming the lights and revealing the finished look only at the very end, and there was a flood of amazed comments about how unchanged Ebihara’s beauty remains. At the same time, reactions to how the makeover actually turned out were mixed, sparking a debate over how the segment was presented.

Maria's probably never watched VIVANT (the hit TBS drama)
That's so like her, but it's a shame she can't join in on stuff like the quiz segment every time

As long as it's Ebi-chan, I'll allow it

Maria had a great figure for an idol too, but Ebi-chan's just on another level
    23AnonymousSep 28, 2026 08:16
She'll probably keep popping up on the show now and then like the other idols do
    24AnonymousSep 28, 2026 08:18
    Ebi-chan doesn't even age like a normal person… she's just built different
    25AnonymousSep 28, 2026 08:18
    See you again, Maria

    31AnonymousSep 28, 2026 08:22
I'm watching on a time-shifted delay and just got to the part where Ebi-chan shows up
So she really does disappear for a while during the makeover, huh?
Is that why her makeup and hairstyle were kept so simple — to make her easier to work with?

    35AnonymousSep 28, 2026 08:35
They keep it to just her voice partway through so it doesn't spoil the reveal
At the end they dim the lights and she comes out like a runway model
After Ebihara's commentary, it wraps up with a moving speech finale
    36AnonymousSep 28, 2026 08:39

    54AnonymousSep 28, 2026 08:57
Surprised to see Ebi-chan actually uses budget-friendly ("puchipura") items too

    Background and talking points

Yuri Ebihara was the central figure of the 2000s “Ebi-chan boom,” rising to fame as an exclusive model for the fashion magazine ViVi, and she remains an influential voice in beauty and fashion today. “Lovit!” runs a “season regular” system in which part of its hosting lineup rotates seasonally, and this broadcast marked Maria Makino’s graduation from that role. On the thread, viewers were struck by the staging choice to hide the makeover process during the live broadcast and reveal Ebihara only at the end with the lights dimmed, though opinions were split on how the finished look actually came across, with some questioning how effective the transformation really was. The show never made clear exactly how well Makino and Ebihara knew each other beforehand, and details like the circumstances behind Ebihara sending flowers to Makino’s concert were never confirmed on the thread either.
