Wolverine Claws Its Way Back to No. 28 With a Half-Price Sale — 5ch: ‘Isn’t THIS the One People Actually Think Is Overpriced?’

From our other sites

The story

Famitsu’s weekly sales ranking (Nov. 6 issue) has been updated, and the talk of the thread is that the PS5 version of “Marvel’s Wolverine” climbed back to No. 28 weeks after launch following a price cut to 3,980 yen. Posters note that the licensing deal reportedly requires sales of around 3.5 million units, and at the current pace hitting that target within the deadline looks tough. Meanwhile, “Demon Slayer”-related titles also saw a sluggish start, with some calling it an outright flop. Opinions split on whether to call this price-cut-driven comeback a “slow burn seller” or just a “fire sale,” and some pointed out that titles which keep selling new releases at full price might actually be the ones seen as overpriced.

Anomalis! Anomalis won! PlayStation!

Re: #9
Oh, really?
Classic Furyu.
42AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:12
Re: #9
Though the gap is only 800 units.

Switch is drowning in green tea and matcha, lol (joking about all the 'green' decline arrows on its sales chart)
Quit bullying retailers already.

Re: #11
Bullying retailers?
You mean PlayStation, which wasted retail shelf space for years?
27AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:07
Re: #11
PlayStation games don't sell at all, so we can't even tell if it's 'green tea' or not — lucky, huh.
66AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:24
Re: #11
Could you say that in front of Mr. Wolverine?
In front of Mr. Saros?

Wolverine's excess inventory is putting company finances at risk, you know.
Do you even get that?
There's a line, even for jokes.

It's been ruled 'not worth buying,' so skip it.

Re: #16
Showing us a video made by your own buddies doesn't really prove anything.
If 'this' isn't worth buying, then PS has zero games worth buying lol.

Switch Sports Resort (5ch shorthand, likely referring to Nintendo Switch Sports) probably won't get touched again either
its drop rate this week is low and it's still high on the Amazon ranking,
so it's obvious it'll sell through during the year-end shopping rush.

Re: #41
They know better than anyone that trash-talking only works for the first little while.
43AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:13
Demon Slayer's a total flop too lol
48AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:14
Re: #43
According to Sony-hardware-fanboy logic, apparently that doesn't count as a bomb.
44AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:13
The one obsessively trashing Pokoa must be someone cycling through IDs.
Wasted my time engaging.
59AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:21
Re: #44
Who else would it be besides an ID-hopper lol
50AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:16
Wolverine
The style of parading its own shame by charting via fire sale.
117AnonymousNov 6, 2026 12:09
Re: #50
Spending big money to buy shame — very on-brand for Sony lol
53AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:18
A week with this much green (sales declines) doesn't come around very often, does it?
56AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:20
Re: #53
Isn't that just how year-end is?
It'll all sell through eventually anyway.
57AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:20
A game with a trade-in value of just 1,000 yen makes a comeback!!!! lol
62AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:22
Even if they ship a million copies of Minecraft, it'll sell eventually.
79AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:30
Re: #62
There's already a Switch version —
how's it supposed to sell through?
87AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:37
Re: #79
Grandmas buying a Switch 2 for their grandkids will pick it up at the same time.
102AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:51
Re: #79
Honestly, the crazy part is it's still charting in the Top 30 at this point.
68AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:25
Wait, is it true Wolverine has to sell 3.5 million copies within a year or the license gets pulled?
That's just not happening…
82AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:34
Re: #68
It might not even be a full year — could be within this fiscal year.
And on top of that, the 2.4 million figure covers 50 days, so 10.5 months is the accurate number.
73AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:27
Whoa, accidentally hit send.
First week was about 22,000, so it looks like roughly 5,000 more sold over six weeks.
77AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:29
Re: #73
Wolverine did 20,000 in week one, 22,000 the week after,
then dropped out of the rankings the week after that.
84AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:35
Demon Slayer sold 2,103 copies and the gauge is full — how many units did they even ship?
If the gauge doesn't drop even a little, we can't even guess lol
88AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:38
Re: #84
Just calculate it as somewhere between 80 and 99% sold through.
89AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:38
Looking at Wolverine, its comeback is clearly just a fire sale, yet some people are calling it 'slow burn selling' — makes you think maybe the real move is to just overship and tank the price.
93AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:41
Re: #89
If you can ship it, mass-shipping any game is the right call —
though PlayStation can't even manage that anymore lol
92AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:39
Judging by the trade-in prices, the DLC bundles for ZA and Pokoa aren't just 'paper slips' (empty download-code cards) after all — at this rate they might keep selling quietly under the radar.
105AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:54
Re: #92
There was never really a need to make key cards or add-on DLC into 'paper slips' in the first place
that whole Dragon's Dogma thing was just way too much of a special case…
95AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:43
Gauge full lol

103AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:52
Re: #95
That's probably just a glitch.
Happens sometimes.
98AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:48
Wolverine lol
Dropped to 3,980 yen and clawed back to No. 28 lol

Classic Trashstation (5ch's derisive nickname for PlayStation) — can't shift units without a half-price sale lmaooooo
104AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:52
Re: #98
People keep saying Nintendo's current software is a rip-off, but when you look at PlayStation first-party titles that only chart once they're on fire sale, you start thinking these are the ones people actually see as overpriced.
100AnonymousNov 6, 2026 11:50
Isn't this shipping something like 200,000 to 300,000 units? lol

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Famitsu’s weekly sales ranking is an estimate based on in-store sell-through, which is a different thing from a publisher’s official shipment numbers. The licensing-contract figures floated in the thread, like “3.5 million units” or “2.4 million units over 50 days,” are also just user speculation, not backed by any official announcement. Likewise, the “gauge full at 2,103 units sold” reported for the Demon Slayer-related title isn’t an actual sales figure either — it’s just a rough in-store display indicator, and how it corresponds to actual shipment numbers is unclear. Where the thread split was over how to characterize a ranking recovery after a price cut: is it a “slow burn seller” or just “the result of a fire sale”? That’s a classic point of contention that often flares up between Nintendo and Sony fan camps. It’s worth keeping in mind that ranking shifts alone don’t measure how strongly a game is actually selling.
