GACKT talks about his AI-assisted new MV: 5ch reacts, “Starting to feel like I’m not needed anymore”

The story

On October 31, actor and musician GACKT posted a lengthy message on X about the AI-generated image video for his new single. The post raised the question of what’s left once humans stop thinking, along with a warning that convenience can easily turn into a weapon. In response, users on 5ch’s Geinou/Sports Breaking News+ board clashed between those worried that AI—while streamlining labor—might end up replacing the arts too, and those more optimistic that it would actually free up more time to think. Some pointed out the apparent contradiction of GACKT himself using AI to make the music video while raising these concerns, asking “who are you to talk?” Opinions split over where exactly to draw the line between convenience and creativity.

Guess that means it'll just be full of ripped-off songs then

If you like thinking, do it as a hobby.
But workplaces need to be efficient, and AI cuts labor costs, so it's already a must.

Re: #5
I think that's exactly right.
In the workplace it's already a must.
And on top of that, for the kind of art GACKT works in—to put it bluntly—it's something that "enriches life but isn't exactly a necessity."

Hard to put into words, but
it'd be good to brand "the fact that a human, not an AI, made this" as the selling point itself.
At the end of the day, art can be worth any price to people who want it, and worth nothing to people who don't care.
For example, sorry, but even if I owned a Picasso I wouldn't want to pay hundreds of millions for one.
But there's clearly demand for that kind of thing, so branding "this isn't AI" could actually stir up and uncover that demographic.
I listen to AI-made music myself, but I bet there will be a segment of listeners who value the fact that a human made it, not AI, as the real added value.

If anything, it'll free up more time to think

Good era now that Chappie (ChatGPT's nickname) will listen to your problems.
I wish I'd had that back in my school days.

Lol, 53-year-old GACKT has become the hope of us 57-year-old unmarried single men
11AnonymousNov 2, 2026 09:24
AI's value is at its peak right now.
Bubble territory.

It's about on the level of "anyone can take a nice photo now" without worrying about exposure, focus, or developing, since editing's easy on your phone.
Not being able to read sheet music or play an instrument
stopped being a barrier to making music a while ago.

He's been at it for years and I don't know a single one of his songs
14AnonymousNov 2, 2026 09:28
Not like everyone became a pro photographer either.
Professional musicians won't disappear—
it's just the half-assed ones who get weeded out.
17AnonymousNov 2, 2026 09:30
He's been ripping stuff off plenty without thinking already…
Going forward he'll just have AI make it, right?
Maybe he already does.
23AnonymousNov 2, 2026 09:38
Cars are convenient too, but they've killed something like a million Japanese people since the war
24AnonymousNov 2, 2026 09:38
What's left once humans disappear from Earth?
25AnonymousNov 2, 2026 09:38
GACKT's been endlessly cooking on cooking shows all year—
turns out he can sing too?

Re: #25
Isn't that DAIGO you're thinking of?
28AnonymousNov 2, 2026 09:40
Doesn't look like he's in his mid-50s at all.
Scarier than plenty of guys in their 30s.
30AnonymousNov 2, 2026 09:41
You could survive even in prehistoric times—
as long as you have AI
33AnonymousNov 2, 2026 09:48
Re: #1 "If humans stop thinking"—
that's basically a wild beast, isn't it
37AnonymousNov 2, 2026 09:50
Re: #33
A human with intelligence is more savage than any wild beast

You guys better not laugh! Don't laugh!

GACKT: "What's left once I sell off all my GACKT Coin?"
42AnonymousNov 2, 2026 09:57
If you're worried about it, maybe don't make it with AI then
47AnonymousNov 2, 2026 09:59
Still, there'd be real upside to fewer people getting exposed to this kind of manga-brained content—plenty of room for improvement there.
51AnonymousNov 2, 2026 10:02
There are plenty of people who were never going to do anything but simple labor without thinking for themselves in the first place.
The real question should be what happens when someone whose job WAS thinking stops thinking.

Well, I guess that's just becoming a frail reed.
54AnonymousNov 2, 2026 10:05
You're the one getting the answers handed to you without thinking, in those ranking shows
55AnonymousNov 2, 2026 10:07
Surprisingly reasonable take, this.
AI still can't seem to do subtraction—like, it can't simplify.
It just piles stuff on, gets fussy and over-the-top, I guess.
I think the real problem is humans who just use that output as-is without judgment.
67AnonymousNov 2, 2026 10:34
Re: #55
Is it really that reasonable though?
Like, if GACKT shot and made his own music videos
entirely from scratch himself,
this would carry more weight.
But he's having AI make his music videos
while saying this—
so it comes down to "who are you to talk?"
56AnonymousNov 2, 2026 10:07
Apparently questions about his Malice Mizer days are off-limits on talk shows
66AnonymousNov 2, 2026 10:26
This I get
My job—AI's gotten so good at it that I'm genuinely starting to feel like I'm not needed anymore

Re: #66
Like, jobs such as building websites, for instance—those are already becoming unnecessary, right?

Background and key points of this discussion

GACKT has often come up on social media in the past in connection with cryptocurrency, and the thread’s jokes about NISA (Japan’s tax-free investment account) or “GACKT Coin” stem from that history. The post itself isn’t a rejection of AI’s spread—it’s a warning about giving up on thinking—but in the thread, comments pointing out a seeming contradiction (“isn’t it odd to voice these concerns while putting out an AI-made MV?”) stood out. The debate split roughly into two threads: whether efficiency in labor and artistic expression can really be judged by the same standard, and whether “the fact that a human made it” can itself be preserved as a value. Most replies take it as a given that AI-driven efficiency is already irreversible—what’s harder to catch from the quoted material alone is that the disagreement was really concentrated on the narrower question of AI’s relationship to creativity.
