UK First-Week Sales: Wolverine Triples Death Stranding 2’s Numbers, Fire Emblem’s Fortune’s Weave Down 26% from Three Houses

The story

The UK’s weekly physical software chart became a hot topic on 5channel’s Hardware/Industry (Geha) board. Marvel’s new game “Wolverine” reportedly opened at roughly three times the first-week sales of “Death Stranding 2” — but since Death Stranding 2 itself had a weak launch, down 66% from its predecessor, opinions were split on whether that was really a fair comparison. Meanwhile, the new Fire Emblem title “Fortune’s Weave” sold 26% below “Three Houses,” though some argued it was actually holding up well once you factor in the difference in console install base between the two launches.

Sounds like a similar opening to Engage.

Re: #2
Then why are you mixing and matching your comparisons like that? Something wrong with your brain?

Re: #2
Matching Switch's opening numbers while exclusive means the platform transition was a success
3AnonymousSep 21, 2026 15:42
We'll know everything just by whether Marvel cancels the contract or not, so who cares lol

Re: #3
With the Spider-Man movie's huge success, Sony's got the upper hand in negotiations
5AnonymousSep 21, 2026 15:43
"Wolverine sold 3x what Death Stranding 2 did, Fortune's Weave is down 26% from Three Houses (please don't cancel the contract… [sob])"
7AnonymousSep 21, 2026 15:45
Re: #1
Why'd you leave out the inconvenient part?

[60% below Spider-Man 2, and slightly below Ghost of Yōtei.] Almost 3x Death Stranding 2.

>[60% below Spider-Man 2, and slightly below Ghost of Yōtei.] Almost 3x Death Stranding 2.

Feels like a math word problem. Sony won't disclose actual sales figures, so we're stuck doing this pointless arithmetic like idiots.

Re: #7
Uhhh???
So if Wolverine's high-end estimate is 1.9 million, that means…?
That tells you a lot.
8AnonymousSep 21, 2026 15:46
It's over already — that's half the numbers of "Fail-Stranding 2" lolol (a mocking nickname mashing up 失敗/"failure" with Death Stranding)
10AnonymousSep 21, 2026 15:48
Factor in install base and it's actually selling like crazy.
Wasn't Switch already past 100 million units sold by the time Engage launched?
11AnonymousSep 21, 2026 15:48
Fortune's Weave's North American Amazon ranking has stayed low this whole time too.
14AnonymousSep 21, 2026 15:50
DS2 sold so badly it's basically why SIE would cut the contract.
15AnonymousSep 21, 2026 15:50
Consoles are probably done for this generation.

Maybe it's the Concord curse.
It really is sad that PlayStation's future got snuffed out.

September 6, 2024 is its death anniversary, so next year, for its third-year memorial (a Buddhist rite marking the anniversary of a death), let's hold a service to calm its raging spirit and pray for consoles to keep going.
17AnonymousSep 21, 2026 15:52
If it's doing this in the UK, it might actually beat the previous game in Japan and the US — oh wait, I mean FE. My condolences, Wolverine.
18AnonymousSep 21, 2026 15:53
Wolverine can't count on word of mouth, so it's cooked.
19AnonymousSep 21, 2026 15:54
Wasn't Death Stranding 2 a PS5 exclusive?
Install base went up and it's still under half the sales lol

Re: #1
>Almost 3x Death Stranding 2

DS2 already flopped hard in the UK, so being told this is "3x that" doesn't really mean much…

Re: #20
So Wolverine ≈ Death Stranding 1?
37AnonymousSep 21, 2026 16:18
Re: #31
"Roman Empire" lol. Unlike Three Houses, this one's actually pretty close to the Xenoblade series in tone — there was no need whatsoever to dress it up with that historical-game veneer.
44AnonymousSep 21, 2026 16:35
Re: #37
Sounds like they don't know about Three Houses' lore — the modern civilization wiped out in that world, the old humans, the leftover missiles still lying around, that kind of stuff.
39AnonymousSep 21, 2026 16:22
Feels like this means Ghost of Yōtei was a bust too.
Though it does seem to back up the case for cutting Kojima loose.
75AnonymousSep 21, 2026 18:08
Re: #39
Judging purely by sales — they shut down Japan Studio and botched the ○/✕ confirm-button swap for the West (a long-running sore point for Japanese players), driving users away.
Still going to keep at it?
43AnonymousSep 21, 2026 16:32
Fortune's Weave is the type of game where the fun papers over its rough edges — people who like it will love it, but I doubt it's broadly appealing.
45AnonymousSep 21, 2026 16:36
Re: #43
What SRPG is "broadly appealing" to begin with anyway?
76AnonymousSep 21, 2026 18:10
Re: #43
If you aim for mass appeal you just end up with a game like Wolverine lol
57AnonymousSep 21, 2026 17:13
Factoring in install base, it's outselling Engage.
Compared to Three Houses it's shaky.
I want to hope the digital download rate is higher now than back then, but…
58AnonymousSep 21, 2026 17:17
Re: #57
Going by install base, it's actually doing better than Three Houses.
78AnonymousSep 21, 2026 18:13
Re: #57
Three Houses had a lot of physical sales though.
Summon Three Houses characters via DLC! It transcends time itself lol
91AnonymousSep 21, 2026 18:50
Re: #57
The physical-copy ratio is probably high.
Pretty sure it's not on one of those key cards (a card that just unlocks a download rather than holding the full game), so it saves storage space, and there's no physical voucher either.
64AnonymousSep 21, 2026 17:27
This one's worrying too —

Fortune's Weave's sales are down 26% from Three Houses

"Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave's UK launch sales (physical) are 26% below Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and broadly similar to Fire Emblem: Engage. Seems pretty decent"
66AnonymousSep 21, 2026 17:31
Re: #64
That's just because the install-base gap versus the Three Houses era has shrunk, so it actually looks fairly solid to me.
68AnonymousSep 21, 2026 17:39
Re: #64
Switch was at 50 million units back in the Three Houses days.
69AnonymousSep 21, 2026 17:47
Three Houses launched in July, so it hadn't even hit 40 million units yet at that point.
73AnonymousSep 21, 2026 18:02
Re: #69
Pretty sure it was close to 45 million.
95AnonymousSep 21, 2026 19:48
"Down 26% from Three Houses, but on par with Engage — pretty good numbers," is that what it's saying?
Is Engage really regarded as that much of a seller?
99AnonymousSep 21, 2026 22:12
Re: #95
Three Houses was a long-tail hit that racked up numbers over time.
Engage was probably selling pretty well in its first week too.

Background and Talking Points

This kind of UK first-week data is compiled by industry watchers from GfK’s physical sales charts, and since actual unit sales aren’t publicly disclosed, posters in the thread noted that these numbers can really only be discussed as relative comparisons between titles. Death Stranding 2 already had a rough showing, down 66% from its predecessor, so stacking a “3x” comparison on top of that looks flashy — but the impression changes a lot depending on the baseline being compared against. As for the new Fire Emblem title, a 26% drop from Three Houses looks like a step back at face value, but since Switch’s install base was far smaller when Three Houses launched, opinion in the thread was split on whether a straight sales comparison is even fair. Posters also pointed to factors that don’t show up on the charts, like the ratio of physical to digital sales — which is exactly why it’s hard to draw firm conclusions from a single first-week snapshot like this.
