Regretting Not Switching from PS5 to PC: 5ch Thread “I Want to Punch My Past Self”

From our other sites

The story

A thread on 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (Geha) board saw a PS5 owner pour out regret, saying “I should have switched to PC last year.” The poster explains that they seriously considered buying a PC last year, but held off and stuck with PS5 after Microsoft announced it would bring its exclusive titles to other platforms too. Since then, however, PC part prices have skyrocketed to nearly triple what they were, putting the build they wanted out of reach. Forza Horizon 6, which they’d been looking forward to, isn’t coming to PS5, and word that an anticipated Kojima title is heading to Xbox instead has left them lamenting, “I want to punch my past self.” The thread drew sympathy, along with advice to “just buy a cheap used PC now,” as well as debate over whether major titles’ PS5 releases are actually confirmed.

Honestly, this time last year I was seriously agonizing over whether to buy one.
But then MS threw in the towel and made everything multiplat, so I figured PS5 would be fine going forward and passed on it.
I want to punch my past self.
2AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:02
Props for being honest about it.
Who knew PC prices would spike this much…
3AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:02
If I tried to buy the same setup now it'd cost almost 3x last year's price.
There's no way I could afford it.
Seriously the worst.
5AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:03
Never imagined PCs would get that expensive in just a year, and never thought PlayStation would end up in such a crappy situation either.
6AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:03
Wait, are you PS5-only?
8AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:05
Re: #6
Got a problem with that?
I was seriously planning to play Forza Horizon 6 myself while watching Hololive streams of it.
But it's not coming out at all, Kojima's game got stolen by Xbox, and now multiplat's getting scrapped too.
What the hell is going on, seriously.
32AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:20
Re: #8
Diablo V already has a confirmed PS version,
and aside from Gears, everything else is still staying multiplat, isn't it?
7AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:04
Seriously, why didn't you buy one, past me?
Just remembering it pisses me off.
10AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:06
What's your reason for thinking you should have switched to PC?
16AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:09
Re: #10
I wanted to play Forza, but its moment has already passed.
On top of that, my physical game collection basically just got declared future garbage, and I genuinely don't get why they'd dump Kojima while cranking out mediocre first-party titles — it's just turning me off completely.
18AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:09
I SERIOUSLY SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT A PCCCCCCCCC
26AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:14
Re: #18
Just buy one now.
You could afford a low-spec used one, right?
20AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:10
Re: #16
That's honestly rough.
If you want to play FH6, getting an Xbox Series S might not be a bad option.
23AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:12
Re: #20
There's already talk of next-gen consoles, so why would I buy a low-spec machine that costs more than a PS5 at this point?

I could have actually bought a PC with a 5070 last year, damn iiiiiiit.
Seriously shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit.
25AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:14
Re: #23
Isn't a console that can't play the games you want to play the lowest spec of all?
I mean that PS5 sitting right there in your hands.
28AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:17
Re: #25
Ugh, shut up.
I was supposed to be able to play everything on PS5.
Now they're suddenly saying they're ending multiplat, and even the new Kojima game got taken away.
I'm a big MGS fan so I was genuinely looking forward to it.

If I'd known this would happen I'd have seriously bought a PC last year.
Both Sony and MS are jerking us around.
It genuinely pisses me off.

Re: #28
Physint was originally planned as a PS6 title,
so it was never slated for PS5 to begin with.
39AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:23
Re: #28
I'll go ahead and predict that staying involved with Sony and PlayStation is only going to make your gaming life more miserable from here.

Even if it costs you a bit more, I'd recommend moving over to PC or Xbox while you still can.
35AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:21
Re: #32
Lol, deciding the release plans all on your own.
38AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:22
Re: #35
During the post-event stream, a Blizzard exec said Diablo would be coming to both PS5 and PS6, so PlayStation fans could rest easy — so it's confirmed to release.
44AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:26
Re: #38
The actual authority to decide that lies with the parent company — Asha Sharma and Matthew Paul — not Blizzard's executives; Blizzard's execs don't have the power to decide where a game releases.
66AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:47
Re: #38
Who knows what'll happen three years from now.
We already learned from Gears that Asha will cancel things even at the last minute.
43AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:26
This guy's just a Nintendo fanboy trolling in disguise as a PS user. ("chikanishi" — 5ch slang for a Nintendo-fanboy troll posing as a rival-camp user)
52AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:36
Re: #43
I'm genuinely regretting this.
Half the reason Sony's pulling this dumb stuff is because of people like you.
Losing Forza and Kojima's game only to get handed Marvel stuff and "woke" pandering instead makes me anything but happy.

60AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:41
Re: #52
Hmmmm…
The more I hear, the more it sounds like choosing PS5 in the first place was the mistake?
Was there even a PS5-exclusive game you actually wanted to play?
47AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:28
Re: #44
Then Asha must be the one who decided it.
65AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:47
Re: #47
Guess that's how it is.
63AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:46
Re: #1
If you go the DIY route with used DDR4 memory,
you can still build one for a not-too-crazy price —
though you won't be able to upgrade the CPU.
70AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:51
Re: #63
I'll just make do with a 14th-gen CPU for now.
67AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:48
Re: #60
I've always bought the PS versions of my games, Switch doesn't get AAA blockbusters, and Xbox was never even an option to begin with — so once the exclusives disappeared, of course PS was the only real choice.

In the end MS basically waved the white flag and made even the studios they bought multiplat, so I figured PS5 was fine and passed on a PC last year.
Now all of a sudden they're going exclusive again and handing Kojima's game to MS — it makes no sense.
And seriously, what's even supposed to happen to all the physical games I've collected up to now?

If I'd known it would turn out like this I'd have genuinely bought a PC last year.
Why does this have to happen right after prices shot up to an insane degree?
72AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:52
Re: #67
You can just sell the physical copies, can't you? Good for you.
73AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:52
Re: #67
Turns out PS5 was the one that was never even an option after all.
That's the punchline.
Well, good effort — congrats on graduating from gaming.
77AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:54
Timing-wise, the people who built a new PC just for Monster Hunter ended up as the real winners.
81AnonymousSep 16, 2026 18:58
Re: #77
And if on top of that they're holding off on Wilds too, that'd make them the true winner.
Though I doubt many people built a new rig just to then skip the game entirely.
89AnonymousSep 16, 2026 19:12
I'm genuinely regretting this and yet there's so many annoying replies in here.

Seriously, why didn't I buy one last year…
I went back and forth right up to the point of actually committing to buy it, too.
91AnonymousSep 16, 2026 19:14
Re: #89
How many physical copies do you even have?
102AnonymousSep 16, 2026 19:24
All this guy's digital games could just vanish the moment Sony feels like it.
Pretty pathetic.
106AnonymousSep 16, 2026 19:28
Re: #102
That's just as true for Steam, Nintendo, Microsoft, or Epic.
GOG would be the exception, maybe.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

This kind of “regret over missing the window to switch” tends to happen when two factors collide: soaring GPU and memory prices, and shifting exclusivity strategies from major platform holders. The poster’s reason for passing on a PC last year was that “the Microsoft camp abandoned exclusivity and went multiplatform” — but this time, as with the Kojima title, the opposite is happening, with exclusivity making a comeback, showing that platform strategy can flip more than once within a single year. The thread split between sympathy for the external factor of price spikes and harsher opinions along the lines of “isn’t this just self-inflicted from putting off the decision?” There’s also a point readers might easily misread: in response to a post claiming a “development executive confirmed” a certain title’s PS5 release, another poster pointed out that the actual authority to decide release platforms rests with the parent company — meaning a comment at an event or on social media isn’t the same as an official announcement.
