If “Chiikawa” Got a Video Game? 5ch: “It’d Turn Out Like FromSoftware or Capcom”

The story

A poster on 5ch’s “Hardware/Industry” (Geha) board started a thread hoping to cash in by turning the popular character Chiikawa into a video game, asking others to help figure out a suitable genre and developer. Replies were split on how to capture the original’s “poison” — some pitched a Mystery Dungeon-style roguelike or an MMO, others wanted a Pikmin-style game where the characters are treated as expendable, and others imagined a FromSoftware- or Capcom-style action game with brutally unfair deaths. Suggested developers included Furyu, Nintendo, and Bandai, and some replies pointed out that a game called “Chiikawa Pocket” already exists.

I want this to be a massive hit and get filthy rich
If I can rake in hundreds of millions, I can start my life over from zero
So I'm counting on your advice to make it happen
4AnonymousSep 13, 2026 16:52
So you get the characters from Nagano, and a development studio actually makes the game —

what exactly are YOU doing?
45AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:47
Re: #4
Negotiating with Nagano, finding a developer and hashing out terms, securing distribution channels, building and executing a sales strategy, building and executing a promo strategy, acting as the go-between to keep every partner company negotiating and moving in sync, lining up sponsors and negotiating with them, and if you can't find sponsors, scrounging up funding some other way — stuff like that

If you're doing this as a hobby, sure, all you have to do is make the game. But if you're doing it as a job, it's not that simple.

Chiikawa's Mystery Dungeon
A slightly cuter remaster
8AnonymousSep 13, 2026 16:55
A world-simulator MMO, no question.
9AnonymousSep 13, 2026 16:55
It'll never outdo Sumikko Gurashi or Tamagotchi.
10AnonymousSep 13, 2026 16:55
Development's by Nintendo— oops, said too much.
11AnonymousSep 13, 2026 16:56
Chiikawa Wii: Perfect Closer
14AnonymousSep 13, 2026 16:58
Just make it solo with RPG Maker, wouldn't that be fine?
18AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:01
What people want from Chiikawa is more of a "Honogurashi no Niwa" vibe (a laid-back, slice-of-life garden game).
19AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:02
Chiikawa Musou (Warriors-style)
Chiikawa Nobunaga's Ambition
Chiikawa Romance of the Three Kingdoms
20AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:02
We live in an age where AI can make this stuff — why are you relying on other people?
23AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:08
Re: #20
Are you an idiot? You'd get arrested for copyright infringement.
25AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:14
Come On Over, Chiikawa Forest (an Animal Crossing parody)
That would sell like crazy.
27AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:18
Get Furyu to make "Chiikawa Forest" 😠
29AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:20
Chiikawa Souls
Let's have FromSoftware make it.
30AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:21
On PS5 it'd be an FPS or crime-horror game
On Switch it'd be a party game.
31AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:21
It'd probably end up like a FromSoftware or Capcom game
since enemies attack you even while you're just going about your normal life.
32AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:25
Personally, I think the safe bet would be a hero-dispatch business sim.
33AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:26
Get Bandai to make a side-scrolling action game 😠
35AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:30
Threads like this turning out to be dead serious instead of a joke is exactly why you can't let your guard down around this crowd.
36AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:31
Let's get Psikyo to make a strip mahjong game.
37AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:31
Carddass Chiikawa
3 cards for 100 yen
41AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:41
There's already some weird idle mobile game out for it, right?
44AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:45
No matter how you look at it, isn't an Animal Crossing-style game the optimal answer?
46AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:47
CHIKIRO USAGI‘S DIE TWISE
47AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:51
If it's Chiikawa
it's gotta be a roguelite or survival-crafting game
one where you get unfairly wrecked and somehow have to make do.
51AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:54
A Pikmin-style game where you use the Chiikawa characters as expendable troops.
79AnonymousSep 13, 2026 19:26
Re: #51
Ah, I see — getting stomped flat by a Damagumo (a spider-like Chiikawa monster) and leaving a pool of blood.
Nagano really does love splatter.
52AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:58
Re: #1
If you don't have money, nobody trusts you
and nobody's going to hear you out.
You should've at least become friends with Nagano before Chiikawa was ever drawn.
53AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:59
I've got the pitch, but no way I'm handing it out for free lol
54AnonymousSep 13, 2026 18:00
Re: #1
Has to be "Sanctuarious of Smally Prittyra," obviously.
56AnonymousSep 13, 2026 18:01
Some kind of Chiikarin with really shaggy, matted fur
57AnonymousSep 13, 2026 18:01
The genre would probably depend on how much of the original's "poison" (dark edge) you dial in.
61AnonymousSep 13, 2026 18:21
Demon Slayer said back when it was exploding in popularity that they'd release a mobile game, and it still never came out.
62AnonymousSep 13, 2026 18:23
That baffling fortune-telling arcade machine, but Chiikawa-themed
and a Chiikawa arm-wrestling machine.
64AnonymousSep 13, 2026 18:32
Chiikawa Musou wouldn't be bad, right?
Like the special attack triggers with a "Nooo!" cutscene lol
65AnonymousSep 13, 2026 18:37
Nagano would probably be happier with a game where Chiikawa dies constantly.
67AnonymousSep 13, 2026 18:40
This one's easy
just ask whichever company makes the Tamagotchi games.
75AnonymousSep 13, 2026 19:11
Uh, "Chiikawa Pocket" already exists though?
83AnonymousSep 13, 2026 19:33
Re: #75
People on Geha really do have tunnel vision — I bet most of them are running their mouths without even knowing that exists.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Chiikawa is a character created by Nagano, and a hugely popular IP with a steady stream of merchandise and collaborations. The thread began as a playful thought experiment — not a live-action adaptation, but a hypothetical video game — and opinions diverged over how to translate the original’s signature blend of “cuteness” and “unreasonably brutal death” into gameplay. The popularity of Pikmin-style expendable-character concepts and roguelite pitches reflects the source material’s habit of putting its characters through terrible ordeals. At the same time, some replies pointed to the practical hurdles of actually pulling off such a project — negotiating rights with Nagano, coordinating with developers and sponsors — offering a glimpse of real-world game production difficulties even in what was ultimately a fantasy thread. As noted in the thread itself, a mobile game called “Chiikawa Pocket” is, in fact, already available.
