He'd posted before about buying a Disc Drive, so I figured that meant the Disc Drive itself was being discontinued —
but is it really ending for good by the end of the year?
I'd laugh if they pulled the same move right before GTA6.
If that's really the plan, at least keep the Disc Drive itself in stock…

so I guess that means two wireless controllers?
They're only moving something like 6,000 units a week, and 'we just have a pile of unsold stock' is an awkward excuse to make.
It's basically sold out nationwide and they're not shipping more — Japan is being deprioritized.
Framing it as 'effectively withdrawing from the domestic market' gives them a cleaner excuse and lets everyone save face.
Better to just go with that story.
Either way, face is preserved as long as you don't think of it as an embarrassing flop everyone's laughing at.
Today's PlayStation owners don't exactly have friends to play co-op with anyway.

The only reason they're turning a profit right now is by not selling hardware, not making more of it, not developing new games, and not planning a PS6.
