Overseas Amazon Bestseller Charts Split by Country: PS5 vs. Switch 2 — 5ch: “Losing even right after the price hike?”

From our other sites

The story

On 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (“Geha”) board, a thread about overseas Amazon best-seller rankings for game consoles took off. In Canada, the PS5 ranked 3rd and the Switch 2 ranked 7th, and replies quickly piled on with rankings from the US and UK too, revealing a split between winners and losers depending on the country. The thread also broke into arguments over the reliability of sales-estimate site VGChartz, with posters divided on which data source to trust.

Canada

PS5: 3rd

Switch 2: 7th

PS5 crushed it on VGChartz in July, you know
It's dominating overseas
Maybe "Nishi-kun" (derisive 5ch nickname for Nintendo fanboys) should just stick to bragging about Japan-only sales

Re: #16
That's the same VGChartz that slashed its PS5 unit estimate by 40% after seeing Sony's earnings report, you know
46AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:11
Re: #16
You're citing VGChartz?

Wikipedia says it's an unreliable site whose numbers are way off from reality
65AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:24
Re: #16
And what did VGChartz say for April–June, when it got crushed by more than double the score?
19AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:01
Europe's always been a PlayStation market anyway, plus there's GTA demand on top of that
This is basically its last hurrah
After this, PS is done — no big titles left in the pipeline
24AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:02
Re: #19
If it's GTA demand, shouldn't Xbox be selling well too then?
28AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:05
Re: #24
If you can already play it on PS5, why would anyone bother buying the minor platform?
Rockstar's clearly favoring the PlayStation version too — they even used PS5 footage for the trailer

Re: #24
The only Xbox model cheaper than PS5 is the 500GB Series S, so it's kind of a wash
The 1TB Series S is the same price as the PS5 Digital Edition
And the Series X Digital Edition is $749.99 🤮
21AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:02
If the higher-spec console is cheaper, of course that's what people are going to buy
27AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:04
Re: #21
PS is just big, that's about all it's got going for it
33AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:06
Japan's getting a price hike next year too, apparently
After the hike, sales will probably settle around 10,000 units a month
62AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:23
Re: #33
Another price hike? At that rate it won't be a price parents can casually buy for their kids anymore — and I already think it's pushing the limit as it is
40AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:09
PS5's still selling just fine after all
Turns out the people making noise about "no disc, no buy" really were just a loud minority
42AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:10
Honestly there's just not enough games
I'm still playing Z-A (Pokémon Legends: Z-A), a cross-gen Switch 1/Switch 2 multiplatform release
43AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:11
Re: #42
Go play Elden Ring — you know, the one that supposedly bombed
45AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:11
Switch 2 is just too expensive
It's basically the same price as PlayStation now
Overseas gamers only care about Western games, so unless it beats PS5 on value, it's a non-starter
60AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:22
Re: #45
What do you mean "the same price"?

   PS5 Switch 2
US: $650 $500
Europe: €650 €500
63AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:24
Re: #60
The PlayStation fanboys on the Geha board seem to think PS5 is cheaper overseas too, just like it is in Japan
64AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:24
Re: #60
So it's cheaper than PS5 and it *still* doesn't sell?
50AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:13
Re: #43
It's a mystery why anyone recommended a late multiplatform port in the first place
55AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:19
Re: #50
People aren't buying it even when it's not a late port

58AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:20
Re: #55
If people were actually buying it, nobody would be saying there's not enough games
57AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:19
Amazon JP bestseller ranking
#11: PS5 (7,351 units)
#19: Switch 1 (8,847 units)
71AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:27
Re: #57
So on this "Amazon ranking" thing, a lower number actually means it's selling better? (lol)
83AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:37
Re: #57, Re: #71
Canada's the only place where you can check Switch 2's monthly unit count, and sure enough Switch 2 came out ahead there
Other countries aren't putting out unit numbers anymore — maybe retailers changed how they report after the price hike
73AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:29
Even Nintendo itself probably doesn't think it's currently delivering an experience that's uniquely Switch 2
78AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:35
Re: #73
Are you pretending Switch 2-exclusive games don't exist?
76AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:33
The European market is kind of a black box, honestly
Doesn't any country over there have a proper tracking firm?
82AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:37
Re: #76
Spain technically has one outlet besides Famitsu that puts out decent weekly sales figures
but it's been dead all summer because of vacation season
There used to be a firm called GSD that put out fragmented hardware sales articles split between the UK and the rest of the EU, but they stopped around last year and it's been a black box ever since
79AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:35
Already past its peak, huh
Saw it coming, but PS5 looks like it could hit 100 million while Switch 2 might struggle to even reach 50 million
81AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:37
Re: #79
So does that mean PS5 is also washed up, since it's losing even to a Switch 2 that's supposedly already past its peak in the US?

US Amazon ("Bei-Ama")
Switch 2: #8
PS5: #18

Losing even right after the price hike…
86AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:38
Re: #80
Even after the price hike, Switch 2 is still cheaper than PS5 everywhere except Japan
The only two consoles you can get cheap right now are the Switch 2 and the 500GB Xbox Series S
85AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:38
Re: #82
It's not that they stopped doing it
Chris Dring, who was putting out that data, just left
95AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:42
Re: #85
There's no way to find out anymore, so it amounts to the same thing
Or are you saying there's secret data out there showing PS actually sells more, they just haven't published it?
88AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:39
The US is about to flip too
Walmart's daily purchase counts already show a 10x gap
Honestly Switch 2 is selling so poorly it's stuck showing "number in carts" instead of "number purchased" — that's basically over

Walmart switches from "in carts" to "purchased" once something sells enough, and Switch 2 just isn't hitting that line
99AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:45
Re: #88
PlayStation dominates Walmart so hard that it's basically always showing PS purchases — that's no reference point at all
89AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:39
Sounds like the Saturn, leaning entirely on America — sales look shaky at least until the Zelda remake drops

Even in Japan, despite it being the back half of summer vacation, it's been stuck in the low 20,000s two weeks running
98AnonymousSep 4, 2026 12:44
Re: #89
The UK actually favors Switch 2 even more than the US does

UK
Switch 2: #13
PS5: #43

Background and key points of this debate

“Amaran” (Amazon’s bestseller ranking) is shaped by stock levels and temporary sales as much as by actual unit sales, so it’s premature to crown a winner by country based on ranking position alone. VGChartz, the sales-estimate site cited in the thread, is commonly referenced overseas, but questions about its accuracy have come up repeatedly. On pricing, while Japan is abuzz over the Switch 2 price hike, several posters note that in the US and Europe, Switch 2 remains cheaper than PS5 even now — so the regional price picture doesn’t necessarily line up the same way everywhere. Few countries publish actual unit-sales figures, and most of the comparisons here rely on the indirect proxy of rankings, which is worth keeping in mind while reading this thread.
