The story
The day after Juice=Juice held a solo concert at Nippon Budokan, a poster believed to be a new fan posted a complaint on 5ch’s Hello! Project board: “The guy behind me was calling so loud it drowned out Eba-chan and Ina’s chants — I couldn’t hear anything.” Hello! Project concerts have a deep-rooted fan culture of “calls,” where the audience shouts fixed chants in response to the members’ singing, and the thread split over whether to prioritize new fans’ desire for “quiet listening moments” or the calling traditions veteran fans have kept up for years. Plenty of replies also drifted into other venue-related topics, like the show’s big coverage in the sports papers and complaints about odors in the audience.
What people said
Saying this and ready for the "quit acting entitled, newbie" comments it's probably going to get. The guy behind me was calling SO loud that at first I figured I'd just use it to learn the calls — but then he drowned out Eba-chan and Ina's "Ao!" chant and I couldn't hear a thing! I didn't come here to hear YOUR voice! Seriously, stop drowning them out! I was so sad!
you casual-fan poser ("pinchike" — 5ch slang dismissing someone as a fake/non-serious fan).
they cut out a ton of that low-pitched old-man-otaku voice.
Just stay home and watch the Blu-ray.
It's a song that came out this year — there's no "tradition" to speak of for its call.
Complaining here won't change anything — unless you storm their X (Twitter) mentions, the crowd's not shrinking.
Exactly this.
Nobody's here for a quiet show.
All 4 major Kanto sports papers (Sanspo, Nikkan Sports, Sponichi, Sports Hochi) ran huge spreads on yesterday's Budokan show‼ Meanwhile Angerme barely got a tiny blurb in Tokyo Sports.
(wrong @ target, lol) — let's compare it to the Pia Arena show instead lol
Nice work on that one as well.
Please handle it at Pia Arena too.
Getting hyped is one thing, but calls loud enough to drown out the speakers are a no — glad I was in the family seats.
Let's make it roar even louder!
Ah, I see — just someone butting in with an unnecessary comment.
Though I guess once you've decided it's annoying, it all just sounds like noise.
I figured the old guy on my left was the source, but then the old lady ("BBA," 5ch slang for "hag") on my right got up during the encore and the smell suddenly vanished — that's when I realized it was her all along.
Sorry for judging the old guy just by his looks, lol.
Apparently Budokan set up a temporary smoking area just for the Juice show (saw it on X) — there wasn't even one for Makino's graduation concert or for Tsubaki Factory. Guess Juice just draws a different breed of otaku.
And don't call over Rei-Rei's chorus at the end, too.
If you don't want to hear loud voices, go sit in the family seats.
It's too loud, stop it.
I can't hear the members' voices — it's a nuisance.
I want to hear it in the members' cute voices.
"Odā! Odā! Odā!"
"geta geta geta geta geta geta geta geta geta geta" (fan chants — so much for "peaceful," lol)
Background and Key Points of This Debate
What Hello! Project fans call a “call” is a style of fan support where the audience shouts fixed chants in time with the members’ singing — and over the years, the exact pattern has become fixed for each group and each part of a song. What sounds to new fans like simple “loud shouting” feels, to veteran fans, like a natural and expected part of the song itself, and that gap in perception is at the root of the conflict. Where the thread really split was over where to draw the line on when calls should be held back (i.e., parts meant to showcase the members’ singing) — “I don’t want it drowned out” ran headlong into “a live show was never meant to be a quiet listening session” in a way the two sides couldn’t reconcile. Plenty of comments pushed back against new fans in general, too, but that’s less a judgment of this one poster and more a reflection of the manner friction that keeps flaring up at venues that have seen a rapid influx of new attendees. Note that replies containing personal attacks, identifying information, or discriminatory language have been excluded from this article.
