The story

BS12 Twellv announced it will launch a new free-to-air BS channel in April 2027, taking over the “BS Fishing Vision” business from Fishing Vision. Combined with its existing “BS12 Twellv” channel, the company will run a two-channel lineup. On 5ch, discussion ranged widely — whether the new channel will really be fishing-only, how many satellite broadcast viewers are even left, and how BS12’s reruns of old movies and anime stack up. Comments questioning whether fishing shows are even popular, alongside opinions on how BS broadcasting can survive going forward, stood out.

Is Fishing Vision ending?
3AnonymousNov 4, 2026 23:33
Did I just get reeled in? (a fishing pun on "getting baited/trolled")
5AnonymousNov 5, 2026 00:23
If PM Suga hadn't fallen from power, this would've probably become a Tohoku Shinsha channel by now (a nod to the broadcasting bribery scandal tied to Suga's son and Tohoku Shinsha)
6AnonymousNov 5, 2026 02:12
Satellite broadcasting's job is already done.
7AnonymousNov 5, 2026 03:04
Ah, I get it — so it turns into 'BS Tsūrivision' then (a mashup of "Twellv" and "tsuri"/fishing that happens to sound like "television").
8AnonymousNov 5, 2026 03:51
'Diverse content' — yeah right, it's basically all shopping channels.
10AnonymousNov 5, 2026 06:28
So I just checked my recording reservations and there isn't a single one.
But I did find a special airing Monday the 9th — Yachiyo Aki's 50th debut anniversary show with guest Shigeru Matsuzaki. Lucky find, thanks to this thread.

Move the foreign dramas, shopping, variety shows, and music programs to a different channel.
BS12 should just stick to movies, dramas, and anime.
12AnonymousNov 5, 2026 06:55
So the VOD service is sticking around.

Re: #12
If anything, with VOD you don't need the insanely expensive satellite usage fees, which cost way more than server fees anyway.
13AnonymousNov 5, 2026 07:44
They're putting real effort into their baseball broadcasts.
14AnonymousNov 5, 2026 08:48
The ultimate anime channel.
15AnonymousNov 5, 2026 11:10
Huh
Impressive that they're still pushing forward in times this tough.
16AnonymousNov 5, 2026 12:09
Fishing channels even got axed on Abema, so I figured they just weren't popular.
But turns out Abema actually brought it back this fall.
17AnonymousNov 5, 2026 12:10
In the first place, isn't fishing something only the people who do it care about — does anyone actually want to watch it?
31AnonymousNov 5, 2026 18:42
Re: #17
If you're into fishing, watching on your phone while you're actually out fishing is more convenient than watching BS broadcasts at home.
19AnonymousNov 5, 2026 12:42
Fishing is basically the ultimate form of environmental destruction anyway.
22AnonymousNov 5, 2026 13:52
Re: #19
It's killing living things, after all.
Thing is, almost nobody feels any guilt about it.
If you're taking a life, are you at least eating it properly afterward?
20AnonymousNov 5, 2026 13:24
Fishing Vision itself is dropping BS and moving to streaming.
More to the point, it's a mystery how Twellv can keep running two BS channels in times like these.
21AnonymousNov 5, 2026 13:50
I wonder if they'll add more baseball?
23AnonymousNov 5, 2026 14:23
At this point, the only way for BS to survive going forward is to go niche and specialized.
Fishing shows from morning till night, sure, why not — and then channels that run nothing but anime, nothing but politics and economics, nothing but idols, or nothing but sports (the cheap broadcast-rights kind).
24AnonymousNov 5, 2026 16:02
So we get worse picture quality in exchange for more channels, huh.
25AnonymousNov 5, 2026 16:46
I like it because they show a ton of Pacific League baseball.
26AnonymousNov 5, 2026 17:00
Does anyone even watch BS12 in the first place?
The upkeep costs can't be cheap either.
What's the reasoning here?
27AnonymousNov 5, 2026 17:15
BS12 does a solid job in the evenings with old Japanese and foreign movies, dramas, and anime, right?
They're airing 'Furikaereba Yatsu ga Iru' later too,
though it does overlap a bit with BS Shochiku Tokyu.
28AnonymousNov 5, 2026 17:32
BS12 shouldn't be underestimated — they run niche movies and live concerts that other channels barely touch.
29AnonymousNov 5, 2026 17:38
Sunday Anime Theater

Nov 8: Ghost in the Shell 4K Remaster
Nov 15: Innocence
Nov 22: Armored Trooper VOTOMS: The Pailsen Files (theatrical edit)
Nov 29: TV series special edit 'Detective Conan: The Crimson Alibi'
Dec 6: TV series special edit 'Detective Conan: Metropolitan Police Love Story – The Night Before the Wedding'

They ran Harmagedon (Genma Taisen) last week — this is exactly the kind of thing BS12 does well.
The Gundam theatrical trilogy they aired a while back was apparently an HD remaster too.

Re: #29
I'd love it if they reran late-night anime too.
32AnonymousNov 5, 2026 18:46
I watch BS11 a lot for anime and horse racing,
but I never watch BS12 at all.
33AnonymousNov 5, 2026 20:32

Something about this gives off a 'this is going under' vibe.
Is this really what fishing's popularity looks like?
34AnonymousNov 5, 2026 21:34
My impression is they run QVC nonstop.
Though, to be fair, they do air some good movies and anime too.
35AnonymousNov 5, 2026 21:35
Even if it's 'free,' put up a satellite dish and NHK will come knocking for their fee.
36AnonymousNov 5, 2026 23:07
I'd never actively think 'I want to watch this' on BS12 Twellv myself.
They show old movies, so I record those sometimes.
Lately I've also been watching the rerun of the drama 'Furikaereba Yatsu ga Iru.'
37AnonymousNov 5, 2026 23:58
Does this mean the source material for Kujira's angler impression series is going away? (referring to comedian Kujira's fishing-show impersonation bits)
38AnonymousNov 6, 2026 01:41
Honestly, just keep running old movies and anime and it'd be fine.
40AnonymousNov 6, 2026 06:47
Wait, so it's a fishing-only channel?
Don't need it.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

While the number of BS channels has multiplied, viewing habits have increasingly shifted toward online streaming, leaving ad revenue and satellite usage fees as a growing burden for each broadcaster. What divided the thread was whether the new channel can actually succeed as a fishing-only channel, and more fundamentally, how many people even watch BS12 itself. Comments praising the continuation of VOD streaming coexisted with views that satellite broadcasting’s role has simply run its course. One point worth clarifying: the claim that “even a free channel requires an NHK contract once you install a satellite dish” is broadly true, but whether a contract is actually required depends on the receiving equipment and installation details — it’s not quite as clear-cut as some posts in the thread suggested.
