Natsuyaki Miyabi Still Has Unfinished Business With Singing — Thread Spirals Into Hello! Project Vocal-Skill Debate

From our other sites

The story

Former Berryz Kobo and Buono! member Natsuyaki Miyabi posted a video of herself singing a Hello! Project song, and it set off a lively thread on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. Alongside comments praising Natsuyaki’s vocal ability itself, posters kept comparing her singing style to that of fellow Buono! member Dambara Ruru, as well as Tanaka Reina and Suzuki Airi. Supportive takes (“Miyabi could just be the guide vocalist at this point”) appeared right alongside harsher ones about her popularity (“she’s not the type who can make it outside the ‘village’”), and the thread widened into a debate about how singing ability and commercial success don’t always go hand in hand.

That's because whenever Miyabi-chan sings a Hello! Project song, she nails every single note.
8AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:13
I'm not a fan of that flat, karaoke-style singing.
Reina, Airi — a lot of Hello! Project singers do this.
Dambara really is something else.

Doing 'Watarase Bridge' as a Matsuura Aya cover, huh?
Ignoring Moritaka Chisato, her big senior from their old agency?
Is the backing track for the Matsuura cover totally different?
Wasn't the original good enough?

Re: #10
It's Miyabi-chan we're talking about — no way she'd think that carefully about it.
11AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:15
If anything, it looks like quitting let her finally do what she wants.
12AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:16
Honestly, at this point Miyabi-chan could just be the guide vocalist.
14AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:17
If it's between the two, I feel like Reina could pull off guide vocals better than Miyabi-chan.
27AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:38
Re: #14
Tanaka Reina could just sing it herself, no?
45AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:47
Re: #14
Tsunku♂ actually said on X a while back that Tanaka would be fine for it, but that she'd probably rather sing her own songs.
Wait, is Moemi still doing guide vocals these days??
15AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:20
Is she singing this at home with a 'Kuwaman' (a cheap home karaoke mic gadget)?
17AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:24
Never in my wildest dreams did I think the day would come where Nihei is more famous than Natsuyaki.
18AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:28
Natsuyaki's good, but she lacks a distinctive style, so pop songs don't quite suit her.
Honestly I think she's more cut out for musicals
but she doesn't seem interested in that.
19AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:30
If anything, Dambara's the one with the generic, mass-produced singing style.
23AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:35
Re: #19
To Hello! Project fans, that style feels fresh.
20AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:30
I unsubscribed the second she put up 'Dry Flower.'
21AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:30
Miyabi-chan isn't someone who can make it outside the 'village' (Hello! Project fan slang for the group's own insular world).
She's basically just the top dog at her own school.
22AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:32
Singing karaoke on YouTube is actually banned under Up-Front's (the agency's) rules, you know.
24AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:35
Lining up 'Moremi' right next to 'Dry Flower' is downright trolling lol (the exact meaning of "Moremi" here is unclear, but it's a title referenced in the thread)
25AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:35
There's something about her that's hard to warm up to.
That's the biggest difference compared to Airi.
26AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:36
Once you get to know the real her, Natsuyaki's actually way easier to talk to though.
Still, I get why Airi ended up the bigger star.
35AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:42
Re: #26
Yeah, I know that.
In reality Natsuyaki's the nicer, more down-to-earth one.
But maybe that's exactly why she lacks star power.
28AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:40
She should sing stuff like Mariya Takeuchi or MISIA.
29AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:40
Dambara's just doing that typical 'overseas diva' karaoke-singer style you see everywhere.
Even to Hello! Project fans there's nothing fresh about it
— we've seen that style to death.
30AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:40
Nah, tons of Hello! Project fans only know Hello! Project and nothing else.
37AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:43
Re: #30
Come on, there are plenty of middle-aged guys in the fanbase — no way that's true.
33AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:42
By that logic, it'd be weird if ANGERME weren't selling well right now.
36AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:43
Re: #33
No chance, since Goto and Nagano are favorites among the 'Ookami' crowd (regulars of a well-known old-school Hello! Project fan forum nicknamed "Wolf").
34AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:42
I don't think she'll outsell Momochi or Airi though.
42AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:45
I wonder how it feels for Nihei to be the one going viral.
56AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:57
Re: #42
She's actually said before that she's self-conscious about having the lowest name recognition among the Buono! members.
46AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:48
Nihei was the one who got saved by Natsuyaki before, so now it's her turn to save Natsuyaki back.
54AnonymousOct 5, 2026 12:55
Re: #46
That was all Sakuma's doing, not hers.
60AnonymousOct 5, 2026 13:02
Yuuri's close friend Kawasaki Takaya got close with Airi after meeting at a festival, and he even appeared on Airi and Oishi's show (Oishi's been friendly with Kawasaki Takaya for a while too)
but nobody says anything about that one.
62AnonymousOct 5, 2026 13:06
Re: #60
Airi's worked with and gotten close to countless guys, so that's a minor thing — wasn't it already settled that it's fine for OGs (veteran/graduated members) to do that?
64AnonymousOct 5, 2026 13:10
How's the relationship between Miyabi and Reina these days?
66AnonymousOct 5, 2026 13:10
Re: #64
They're cousins.
65AnonymousOct 5, 2026 13:10
Re: #62
The one time the other side's fans really got upset was probably when Airi appeared as a guest at the FANTASTICS live show.
69AnonymousOct 5, 2026 13:14
Re: #65
Suzuki Airi did a collab song with Da-iCE's Hanamura Souta two months ago,
and now she's got one with THE RAMPAGE from EXILE TRIBE's Yoshino Hokuto.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Natsuyaki Miyabi is a former member of Berryz Kobo and Buono!, and this thread started after she posted a video of herself singing a Hello! Project song. The “guide vocal” (仮歌) mentioned in the replies refers to a temporary vocal take recorded before the official version, and the question of who handles guide vocals is the kind of topic only fans familiar with Hello! Project’s behind-the-scenes workings would raise. The thread also brings up how fellow Buono! member Nihei recently drew attention online over an unrelated matter, reflecting shifting name recognition within the group. Opinions in the thread are split — some say she “has the vocal skill but lacks individuality” or “wouldn’t sell outside the ‘village’” — reflecting a debate common in the entertainment and idol world: that vocal talent and commercial success don’t always go together.
