The story
Maruka Foods, based in Isesaki, Gunma Prefecture, is planning to build a new factory, aiming to raise Peyoung’s production capacity by up to 1.7 times current levels once it comes online in 2029. The goal is to break into the West Japan market, which lags behind the East, where 70% of sales currently come from. The site will also include “Peyoung Park,” a visitor facility offering factory tours. Rising prices have also been boosting sales of the extra-large portion varieties. On 5ch, the thread buzzed with comments pointing out how few stores in West Japan even stock the product, taste comparisons with regional favorites “UFO” and “Ippei-chan,” and wistful remarks about how the flavor changed after factory upgrades.
Peyoung Holdings (Isesaki, Gunma Prefecture), whose group includes cup yakisoba maker Maruka Foods, will build a new factory in Isesaki. Targeting start-up in 2029, the company plans to raise its production capacity by up to roughly 1.7 times current levels.
The company also plans to build “Peyoung Park,” a hands-on facility offering factory tours, on the site, which is expected to draw more visitors to the area. (By Hiroyuki Sato)
In recent years, rising prices have pushed consumers toward thriftier choices, boosting sales not only of the standard-size “Peyoung Sauce Yakisoba” but also of the hearty “Peyoung Sauce Yakisoba Super Jumbo,” which is also said to be in high demand as an emergency stockpile item.

What people said
The fact this stuff is popular is a sign healthcare costs are about to explode
Meat gives you gout, fish gives you parasites, vegetables are drenched in pesticides
Wait, it actually had depth of flavor to begin with?
When it comes to yakisoba, it's gotta be UFO — no compromise there
And I'm not just saying this out of Osaka bias
I'm Tokyo born and raised, through and through (ironically written in Osaka dialect despite claiming Tokyo roots)
Still, old-school UFO was the best
They changed the noodles over a decade ago and I stopped buying it
I can handle spicy food fine, but Peyoung's 'Gokugekikara' (ultra-spicy) is the only store-bought noodle dish I couldn't finish
try actually selling it in West Japan supermarkets
Building the factory can wait until after that
No idea if it's selling, but it is on shelves
Saw it at 7-Eleven and tried it once.
It was dry and not very good.
Nothing beats that mustard mayo
Chilled Maruchan is the only choice
Re: #65
UFO was done for the moment they changed the noodles and sauce
UFO and Ippei-chan are enough for me
He made a giant Peyoung on Gaki no Tsukai, right?
That was on Lincoln

I'm from Kansai but never bought it
Always had the impression it was a small portion
Like Kinchan Ramen, you mean? (another cult-favorite instant noodle brand)
only soak the noodles halfway, then fry them up on a hot plate
with plenty of oil, toss in some komatsuna or maitake mushrooms, sprinkle on basil, and stir-fry
Seriously delicious
I don't fry up Ippei-chan, but I always keep some stocked
UFO, Gotsumori, and Ippei-chan are the classics
Peyoung's just… different, somehow
The package design feels dated too
It's for young couples to eat ('pe-a' = pair + 'young' — a pun on the name)
Even at ramen shops, doubling the noodles usually adds about 150 yen, no?
Funny, usually it's West Japan food that gets called bland
Sure, oddly enough places like Don Quijote or La Mu sometimes carry it
but you can basically assume a regular West Japan supermarket won't have it
Seriously, once you head west it's just not sold
And Don Quijote and La Mu, lol
Feels like out west, 'Peyoung' has become associated with 'the kind of customer who shops at Don Quijote or La Mu'
Always makes me wonder if it's good for you, so I keep hesitating and never actually buy it
Contains powdered 'G' (slang for cockroach — a dark joke about mystery ingredients)
Peyoung uses liquid sauce, doesn't it
(´・ω・`)
Background and Key Points of This Topic
The figure that “East Japan currently accounts for 70%” comes from the Yomiuri Shimbun-affiliated article this piece is based on, not from speculation on 5ch. The cup yakisoba market has long seen a regional share battle among three major brands, including “UFO” (Nissin) and “Ippei-chan” (Maruchan), and Peyoung’s thin retail presence in West Japan is itself the premise behind this investment plan. What split opinion in the thread was less about taste preference than “nostalgia bias” — several wistful comments claiming “it used to taste better” after factory upgrades and noodle/sauce changes tend to blur the line between the flavor itself changing and the eater’s own circumstances changing, and no post actually pinned down when the recipe was changed. Comments that mocked Kansai by name were judged to go beyond the bounds of reasonable regional commentary and were excluded from the article.
