The story

Square Enix has issued an apology for the smartphone access outage that hit the official site for “Torneko’s Great Adventure: Mystery Dungeon — A Slightly Nice Remaster” starting the evening of September 11. The site has since been restored. However, this apology only addresses the site outage — it makes no mention of the game’s design choices or bugs. On 5ch, comments like “That’s not what you should be apologizing for” piled up, as the gap between the apology fans actually wanted and the one they got became the talk of the thread.

Yeah, Square Enix really is a trustworthy company.
6AnonymousSep 14, 2026 18:14
Looks like they're going to push this through with 'that's just how the game was designed.'
7AnonymousSep 14, 2026 18:15
You've got other things to apologize for.

Re: #7
Well, it's a 'Slightly Nice' apology, after all… (riffing on the game's 'Slightly Nice Remaster' subtitle)
9AnonymousSep 14, 2026 18:15
So they've got no intention of actually fixing it in that update, huh. Figures.
11AnonymousSep 14, 2026 18:20
If they're not gonna do anything, fine, but don't go around lying and calling it a 'hit release,' come on.
15AnonymousSep 14, 2026 18:23
Oh look, they actually managed to say it.

Re: #15
Classic old trick — apologize for the trivial stuff to smooth things over.
18AnonymousSep 14, 2026 18:26
Square Enix is gonna get teased with 'Slightly ___' for years to come.

20AnonymousSep 14, 2026 18:30
At this point the subtitle just looks like it's trolling the fans lol
21AnonymousSep 14, 2026 18:31
I bet they're getting flooded with 'that's not what you should be apologizing for' comments right now.
22AnonymousSep 14, 2026 18:32
They have zero intention of revisiting any of this in an update.
25AnonymousSep 14, 2026 18:33
Branding it 'Slightly Nice' really raised the bar on themselves lol
28AnonymousSep 14, 2026 18:36
So they're not apologizing for turning it into a crap game, huh.
30AnonymousSep 14, 2026 18:38
No, no.
That's not it, that's not it at all.
33AnonymousSep 14, 2026 18:41
Why does something that used to work just… stop working……
37AnonymousSep 14, 2026 18:51
I laughed when I saw someone point out that Square Enix's 'quality over quantity' shift actually just means shifting from 'lots of customers' to 'customers who pay well.'

Re: #1
Lies, exaggeration, misleading claims — distortion, bias, fabrication (riffing on a famous Japanese catchphrase about deceptive advertising)
41AnonymousSep 14, 2026 19:10
There's nothing here that apologizes for the actual game content.
42AnonymousSep 14, 2026 19:14
Heard it's a refund frenzy over on Steam though?

>We focused above all on the controls and pacing to make sure they felt great!

Sure, what a coincidence.

Re: #43
I kept seeing this around and was curious what it was — good to know, thanks.

Square Enix: 'Sorry… guess this is rough after all.' (a nod to the 'Reiner meme' from Attack on Titan)

Square Enix: 'From quantity to quality.'

Re: #56
Well, 'quality' and 'improved productivity' can mean a lot of different things.

Guess they upgraded the quality of scamming customers.

The reputation on the Torneko's Great Adventure remaster is so bad that I might skip Dragon Quest Monsters 4 and FF Resonance, which I was planning to buy.
I'll get some other company's game instead of a Square Enix one.

Re: #58
Going by the trend of the last few DQM titles, the player base drops off a cliff about a month after release.
If you want to enjoy it while it's got momentum, buying early is actually the smart move.
That game gets way more grindy and boring once the population thins out.

Isn't there a saying that nobody complains about a door facing the wrong way in a house built by a world-class architect?
It's 'as intended.'

Re: #69
This is third- or fourth-rate work, though.
79AnonymousSep 14, 2026 21:25
Well, let's give up on 1 and just pin our hopes on the 2 and 3 remasters.
82AnonymousSep 14, 2026 21:46
Re: #79
You're still holding out hope for those?
92AnonymousSep 14, 2026 22:12
Maybe it's because they had AI handle the debugging, but there are so many weird bugs it sounds more like a 'Slightly Subpar Remaster.'
93AnonymousSep 14, 2026 22:13
Re: #92
Is 'slightly' really the right word for this…?
98AnonymousSep 14, 2026 22:44
I wonder if next month's FF is gonna be okay.

Re: #98
The demo for that one is mostly fine, but it's weird how it switches between 3D and 2D movement when you use a special move.
Also the mini-medal-type collectible is annoying, since it's mostly just junk items.

Background and Key Points

The apology Square Enix issued this time concerns the smartphone access outage on the official site that began the evening of September 11 — it is not an apology for the design or bugs in the remaster itself. Skimming just the thread title without noticing this distinction makes it easy to misread as “they apologized for the game’s content,” but the actual announcement only reports the site outage being fixed and says nothing about gameplay issues. What became the focus of the thread was the mismatch between the apology users wanted (an explanation addressing things like controls or textures in the game) and the apology that actually arrived (the site outage) — a disconnect that spawned ironic jabs like “a slightly nice apology.” Note that the “Three Years of Reset” plan announced in 2024 and comments about AI-assisted debugging are points raised within the thread itself, not facts officially confirmed by Square Enix.
