DiverDiva’s First New Song in 4 Years Debuts at #11 on Oricon — 5ch Erupts Into Unit-vs-Unit Fan Wars

The story

DiverDiva, a unit from Love Live! Superstar!!, released its first new song in four years — but the news that it only reached #11 on the Oricon chart became a hot topic on 5ch. Thread posters brought up other units’ numbers for comparison, like “A・ZU・NA at #26 with 2,224 listeners” and “MoaJan at #35 with 1,553 listeners,” and the discussion spiraled from debating the quality of the songs (aside from Eternal Light) and Spotify listener trends into a full-blown popularity feud between fans of other Love Live projects like Nijigasaki, Hasunosora (SS), and Liella!.

#11, huh

26 2,224 A・ZU・NA
35 1,553 MoaJan (5ch shorthand for a unit name)

Hmm…

Re: #4
Ayumu and Ruby fighting to the death, huh…

Nijigasaki's unit is basically just chewing gum that's lost all its flavor at this point.
If they split into different team formations like Liella! does, they could avoid going stale.

Re: #10
Guilty Kiss and SS should be just as flavorless by that logic, yet they're still super popular.
20AnonymousSep 9, 2026 19:19
Listened to the song — it's seriously underwhelming.
Eternal Light was actually good though.
62AnonymousSep 9, 2026 20:25
Re: #20
DD (DiverDiva) has only ever really had Eternal Light going for it.
Everything else is the usual filler trash.
R3BIRTH is the only unit where every single song actually hits.
42AnonymousSep 9, 2026 20:08
While busy trashing every other Love Live group, the only one who hasn't noticed they're the most washed-up of all is the Niji-oji (diehard Nijigasaki fanboy)… too funny.

Re: #42
While busy bashing Nijigasaki and Hasunosora, Star's (Superstar!!'s) listener count dropped again lol
53AnonymousSep 9, 2026 20:18
If people were actually sick of it, they wouldn't keep rolling out this much new merch.

Re: #53
Classic gap in temperature between the supplier and the customers.
57AnonymousSep 9, 2026 20:21
I still think Nijigasaki sells better than most in the franchise, but when you consider this is happening in the middle of their finale films, it's rough.
Aqours ("Mizu") lost fans after their finale too — Nijigasaki's probably in for a rough ride once it wraps up as well.

Re: #57
Guilty Kiss and Saint Snow (GKSS) did great though.
Wonder what Nijigasaki's even going to do once it hits its finale.
64AnonymousSep 9, 2026 20:26
Re: #57
By what logic does 2,224 count as "selling well"?
60AnonymousSep 9, 2026 20:23
The reason people bring it up is that it's hilarious watching Star (Superstar!!) fanboys talk big while conveniently ignoring that Superstar!! itself is in even worse shape than Aqours or Nijigasaki…
61AnonymousSep 9, 2026 20:24
Re: #60
You just want to believe things are miserable over there.
Nijigasaki hasn't had any activity at all, so it's basically done anyway.
67AnonymousSep 9, 2026 20:26
Re: #61
Star (Superstar!!) just held their sports-festival event and listeners still crashed.

Nijigasaki drops one new song and listeners explode.

Where exactly did it all go wrong…………..
69AnonymousSep 9, 2026 20:29
They'll probably slap a serial code on the next CD.
At this rate they're going to be Love Live's dead weight again this year.
72AnonymousSep 9, 2026 20:31
Re: #69
They're not going to bundle anything with this unit's 4 songs.
Even if they did, there's nothing left to give away.
70AnonymousSep 9, 2026 20:29
Re: #68
Um… Liella! put out both a single and an album, and their numbers still dropped 10% from before.
76AnonymousSep 9, 2026 20:33
Re: #70
Oh…………………..
78AnonymousSep 9, 2026 20:34
By the way, Liella! was over 60k back in June…

Listener counts, 9/1 → 9/8

Liella!
55,785 → 55,336 (-449)

A・ZU・NA
10,664 → 12,708 (+2,044)

Someone explain this phenomenon, please.

Re: #78
The unit's numbers are climbing steadily too.
Let's check how Liella!'s own sub-units are doing while we're at it.
82AnonymousSep 9, 2026 20:36
Re: #80
It just released, so it's only a temporary bump before it drops right back down.
86AnonymousSep 9, 2026 20:37
Re: #82
What's the reason Liella! has dropped so much since June?
89AnonymousSep 9, 2026 20:39
Re: #82
Well, the moment it's increasing, the Star fanboys' whole argument falls apart.
Why do you think Star fanboys have been dodging the listener-count topic this whole time?
81AnonymousSep 9, 2026 20:35
"Nijigasaki fanboys too" — that's rich.
No we're not — it's only Star fanboys doing that lol
85AnonymousSep 9, 2026 20:37
Re: #81
The Nijigasaki fanboys were happy that clips were getting uploaded everywhere after Nijigasaki's live lol
91AnonymousSep 9, 2026 20:40
Not even half of Nijigasaki's numbers.
No wonder it's not even getting a physical release.

95AnonymousSep 9, 2026 20:43
Re: #91
At this rate the unit's getting cancelled too.
Anime cancelled, manga cancelled, figures cancelled.

This truly is "Cancella!" (打ち切リエラ — a pun combining Liella! with "discontinued") lmaooo
94AnonymousSep 9, 2026 20:42
Kind of sad that Nijigasaki fanboys can only brag using free stuff like Spotify lol
You can listen on YouTube too, you know.
Pathetic Nijigasaki fanboys who can only boast about the one convenient metric.
100AnonymousSep 9, 2026 20:45
Re: #94
YouTube's even more brutal…

103AnonymousSep 9, 2026 20:46
Re: #100
No way, seriously…

One-fifth of Nijigasaki's numbers? Is that even allowed…
107AnonymousSep 9, 2026 20:49
Good news, Pika-Liella (mocking nickname for Liella!) — on Amazon Music you're only down to half.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

DiverDiva is an in-story unit from Love Live! Superstar!!, and this was its first new song in four years at a time when Superstar!! itself has often been criticized for its slowing release pace. The Love Live! franchise runs multiple projects in parallel — Nijigasaki, Hasunosora (SS), Liella!, and others — and on 5ch it’s become routine for fans to pit units and shows against each other using weekly Spotify listener counts and YouTube view numbers. That said, weekly listener counts tend to spike temporarily right after a new release drops, so reading a few days of fluctuation as a definitive trend can be misleading. Likewise, an Oricon rank of #11 is only meaningful relative to the size and makeup of the chart being tallied, so it’s worth being cautious about treating it as hard proof of an absolute “flop.” The thread mixes genuine number-crunching with fans simply trading insults, so readers need to judge for themselves which comments actually reflect reality.
