Top 3 Cars With the Worst Driving Manners: 5channers Rally Around ‘Prius’ and ‘Probox’

The story

A thread on 5ch calling out the “Top 3 cars with the worst driving manners” blew up after naming the Prius and the Probox. It kicked off with users hunting for a third contender, and the discussion spiraled to name-check everything from the Copen and kei cars to high-end imports. The debate split into two camps: does the car itself make people drive worse, or is it really just about the driver’s age and job? For the Probox specifically, some pointed to its lightweight build as a genuine mechanical reason it tends to speed, pushing the conversation beyond mere stereotyping.

What's the third one?
4AnonymousSep 6, 2026 08:00
Probox drivers crawl along so slowly it makes me want to tailgate them

Re: #4
Even if I get home early, all I'll do is desk work, so speeding gets me nothing — I stick strictly to the limit.
Sorry to disappoint.

Re: #4
Proboxes on the highway are no joke though.
They're flying like, how many km/h are you even doing?
73AnonymousSep 6, 2026 09:03
Re: #4
That's the type with a monitoring device installed.
Not just speed — even engine RPM and how hard you brake gets tracked.
Feels like driving a city bus.

The Copen (Daihatsu's mini roadster) — it's the worst when some middle-aged guy is driving it
26AnonymousSep 6, 2026 08:15
Re: #6
Copen drivers are always one of three things: a middle-aged guy, a short guy, or a bald guy.
20AnonymousSep 6, 2026 08:12
Cars with repeating-digit plates (zorome, like 1111 or 7777) generally have bad manners
24AnonymousSep 6, 2026 08:14
Maybe that was true for the old Prius, but are there really people like that with the current model?
25AnonymousSep 6, 2026 08:15
Low-riding cars tend to blow through stop signs a lot
29AnonymousSep 6, 2026 08:17
My personal car's a Prius, my company car's a Probox — I just watch the chaos from the sidelines
31AnonymousSep 6, 2026 08:17
Come to think of it, everyone says "Alphard/Vellfire" in the same breath, but you only ever actually see Alphards.
Barely ever spot a Vellfire.
34AnonymousSep 6, 2026 08:20
Re: #31
The Vellfire's just a downgraded Alphard, so it's not popular.
The Voxy is even a rung below that.
Far from letting you flex, it's turning into an embarrassing car to own.

Re: #31
Resale value's bad, that's why.
45AnonymousSep 6, 2026 08:35
Re: #2
The ones blasting down the right lane on the highway are usually these.
47AnonymousSep 6, 2026 08:42
If the Probox counts, then the JPN Taxi (Toyota's official taxi model) should count too
51AnonymousSep 6, 2026 08:45
Lane-splitting bikers and black kei cars
54AnonymousSep 6, 2026 08:50
This is clearly talk from someone who's never actually driven.
The pricier the car, the better the manners.
The bottom-tier the car, the worse the manners, guaranteed.
55AnonymousSep 6, 2026 08:52
Re: #54
You're the one who's never actually driven.
"It has nothing to do with the car model" is the correct answer.
64AnonymousSep 6, 2026 08:59
Re: #54
Women driving their husband's Lexus or BMW are terrifying.
66AnonymousSep 6, 2026 09:00
Re: #54
Saw a middle-aged lady in a Benz parked diagonally across two handicapped spots.
59AnonymousSep 6, 2026 08:56
Re: #57
The Probox's body is stripped down to the bare minimum weight for its engine size, so it's genuinely fast.
No joke, that thing's basically a sports car.
60AnonymousSep 6, 2026 08:57
Re: #59
Guess they ripped out everything since it doesn't need creature comforts.
Kind of like a Mini.
62AnonymousSep 6, 2026 08:58
Re: #2
My impression is they roar up super loud but aren't actually going that fast.
87AnonymousSep 6, 2026 09:08
Re: #62
That's because it's diesel — it's slow.
63AnonymousSep 6, 2026 08:58
Re: #2
There aren't many of them, but honestly that's the only impression I have.
72AnonymousSep 6, 2026 09:03
You know how there are Proboxes flying down the highway at insane speeds? What's up with that?
76AnonymousSep 6, 2026 09:04
Re: #72
Probably some corporate slave stuck on a brutal "black company" schedule.
77AnonymousSep 6, 2026 09:05
Re: #72
It's a company car, so who cares what happens to it.
86AnonymousSep 6, 2026 09:07
Re: #72
If you can shave off travel time, that time goes toward something else.
85AnonymousSep 6, 2026 09:07
People who needlessly speed in kei cars are like bugs.
An accident would be brutal — is your own life really worth that little?
89AnonymousSep 6, 2026 09:12
Re: #85
My company's sales car is a kei car, and past around 85 km/h I get hit with this fear the engine's about to blow.
Kei cars doing 100+ km/h on the highway are seriously out of their minds.

"Creepy-otaku blue" (kimo-ota blue — a pale blue paint color stereotypically associated with otaku)
91AnonymousSep 6, 2026 09:12
Re: #88
Don't see that color much these days 😭
94AnonymousSep 6, 2026 09:14
There aren't many of them so they don't stand out, but Porsches generally have bad manners
96AnonymousSep 6, 2026 09:17
Re: #94
Ah, I feel that.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

The Probox is a Toyota commercial van known for its cargo-focused, lightweight body and bare-bones equipment. The thread’s claim that it’s “fast for its engine size” stems from that light weight, combined with its common role as a business vehicle pushed through long drives on tight schedules. Criticism of the Prius, meanwhile, points to an objective hybrid-specific design trait: thick C-pillars that limit rear and rear-side visibility. That said, the thread as a whole is built on anecdotal impressions rather than hard data — agencies like Japan’s National Police Agency don’t publish official violation rates broken down by car model. The fact that both “luxury cars have better manners” and “luxury cars have worse manners” were argued side by side also suggests the driver matters far more than the vehicle.
