Onimusha’s Switch 2 Version Runs at an Average 45fps — 5ch: “Wouldn’t a Locked 40fps Be Better?”

From our other sites

The story

According to testing by a gaming media outlet, the PS5 version of Onimusha: Way of the Sword offers a choice between two display modes — “Quality Priority” and “Performance Priority” — with Performance Priority holding around 60fps. The Switch 2 version, by contrast, has only a single display mode, and with VSync disabled it maintains an average of around 45fps, with the outlet calling it comfortable to play even in handheld mode. The article sparked a back-and-forth on 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (“Geha”) board between PS and Switch fans over the performance gap, pricing, and portability trade-offs between the PS5 and Switch 2 — before the thread veered off into the unrelated topic of GTA6’s frame rate issues.

The PS5 version comes with two display modes: “Quality Priority” and “Performance Priority.” Both let you uncap the frame rate, but even uncapped, they reportedly hover close to each mode’s target figure.

The Switch 2 version has only one selectable display mode. With VSync disabled, it runs at an average of 45fps, and the outlet rated it as especially comfortable to play in handheld mode.

In the actual footage, whether during combat or movement, the PS5’s Performance Priority mode holds around 60fps, while Quality Priority mode hovers around 35–40fps. The Switch 2 version can likewise be seen maintaining roughly 45fps overall.

Guess the Switch fanboys ("Nishikun," a mocking nickname for Nintendo diehards) have finally figured out games need fps too

Nishikun♥ Nishikun♥

But honestly, the PS4 version's probably smoother than this
7AnonymousSep 6, 2026 07:41
Just going off the demo, but I think the Switch 2 version's holding up pretty well
(Bought the Steam version myself, though)
8AnonymousSep 6, 2026 07:48
Wasn't the consensus that a locked 40fps beats choppy variable frames?
11AnonymousSep 6, 2026 08:04
So what do you think — will this one outsell the PS5 version?

Re: #11
Except for Mega Man and Ace Attorney, the PS version wins every time

Re: #11
Obviously
That "Pay-more Station" (a dig at PlayStation's rising prices) is nothing but a barrier to entry
14AnonymousSep 6, 2026 08:06
Half the resolution, half the fps, but the same price?
Whyyy? Whyyy?

Re: #14
Well yeah, it's a small handheld system
It's like landline vs. mobile phone, or desktop PC vs. laptop — totally different in terms of convenience

Re: #14
So you're saying PS5 owners feel the same way about the Steam version?
21AnonymousSep 6, 2026 08:25
Bragging about 60fps? Come on
120fps+ is the standard these days
PC is the only real choice now

Re: #21
Come back once you've unified the specs and the pricing across the board
45AnonymousSep 6, 2026 08:52
There are reports that GTA6 doesn't just have blatant frame rate drops — it's also using heavy motion blur to mask the low frame rate

Because of that, cars next to you end up looking totally blurred out

Re: #45
What's this guy even trying to prove by posting a blurry screenshot
60AnonymousSep 6, 2026 09:19
If only the Switch 2 had DLSS3…
Then frame generation could've gotten most games up to 60fps
That's the one disappointing part

But apparently the Stellar Blade devs managed to customize FSR3.1 for Switch 2, so hopefully that tech can help stabilize frame rates a bit more

Re: #60
Using frame generation below 60fps just causes tons of ghosting plus input lag — makes it unplayable lol
75AnonymousSep 6, 2026 09:30
Re: #74
The PS Portal's latency is so bad that action games are a total wash on it
76AnonymousSep 6, 2026 09:33
Re: #74
There you go making stuff up again
So by that logic, GTA6 and the upcoming Witcher 3 (remaster) are unplayable too?

You guys just spout whatever with that know-it-all attitude
It's gross
61AnonymousSep 6, 2026 09:19
Re: #49
This is about motion blur, so it'd be the same issue even with a higher-res image, no?
62AnonymousSep 6, 2026 09:21
Re: #61
Everything's blurry — what exactly is "the same" about that?
66AnonymousSep 6, 2026 09:23
Re: #62
It's about the gap between your own car and the one next to you, right?
No matter how high the resolution, it's still slathered in motion blur — that's the point, isn't it?
68AnonymousSep 6, 2026 09:25
Re: #66
Posting a screenshot that's blurry all over doesn't prove anything
77AnonymousSep 6, 2026 09:34
Re: #76
Lol, you clearly don't even own a PC

🐷💦<I-it's the P-PlayStation!! The P-Portal!! (mock stutter, mimicking a flustered fanboy)

Re: #79
Getting trolled nonstop, and the second you can't argue back anymore, you try to change the subject — that's some real "special" behavior lol (a common ableist jab used on 5ch)
99AnonymousSep 6, 2026 09:57
It's a fact that GTA6 loses to Onimusha on frame rate, so you should've realized picking a fight over it was a losing battle from the start
101AnonymousSep 6, 2026 09:59
Re: #99
Well, of course — they're completely different games
Besides, GTA6 snubbed the Switch 2 entirely lol (wordplay: "habucchi-2," blending "exclude" with "Switch 2")
104AnonymousSep 6, 2026 10:03
But then again, Nishio (Switch fanboy) never actually buys anything

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is Capcom’s new action title, releasing across multiple platforms including PS5 and Switch 2. What sparked discussion in this comparison was a spec difference: the PS5 version lets players switch between “Quality Priority” and “Performance Priority” modes, while the Switch 2 version is limited to a single display mode. On the thread, the conversation wasn’t so much about the raw performance gap itself as it was a mix of grievances over the two versions costing the same despite the handheld/console spec difference, tangled up with comparisons that dragged in the unrelated topic of GTA6’s frame rate issues. Worth noting — something that doesn’t come through in the quoted excerpts alone — is that GTA6 is a separate title with different conditions around motion blur and resolution, so straightforward numerical comparisons should be taken with a grain of salt.
