NHK announced that Ado will air a radio special on August 30 in which she reflects on her life story, and on 5channel’s Geinou/Sports News+ board, comments poured in saying “23 is way too young to be telling your life story.” At the same time, defenders chimed in with “she’s had a pretty turbulent life for her age” and “living as a masked singer is actually the ideal setup,” and the discussion expanded into whether it’s fair to question her policy of never showing her face.
Ado to Tell Her Life Story in Full on Radio Special, Airing August 30 on NHK AM — Narration by Hatsune Miku
The radio special “Ado ~What I Want to Tell You, From My 23-Year-Old Self~,” in which Ado delivers an “authentic, relatable” message of encouragement to children, will air on NHK AM from 8:05 to 8:55 PM on August 30. Narration for the program will be handled by Hatsune Miku.
In the program, Ado — who released the autobiographical novel “Vivarium: Ado to Watashi” (Vivarium: Ado and Me) this past February — speaks at length about her life from childhood to the present, touching on episodes of self-denial and feelings of inferiority, and the time she spent shut away in her closet, captivated by Vocaloid music and “utaite” (singers known for covering Vocaloid songs). Through it all, she sends children a message meant to inspire courage and belief in the future.
Um, so, Ado, um— (mimicking the classic "well, um, I…" opening of a kid's school essay, punning on her name)

Ado as a little kid.

A "23-year-old's life story," huh…

Too soon lol
Right? Though she doesn't get bashed for it much since she doesn't show her face.

Nah, she's lived a way more intense life than most people.
Judging by age alone is just old-man thinking at this point.
4Anonymous2026/08/24(月) 09:03:50.90ID:kZsjb1iX0
Honestly not sure how much of either of them is even real.
10Anonymous2026/08/24(月) 09:06:23.91ID:tyCZATdu0
She did a game stream once and it pulled a massive crowd.
11Anonymous2026/08/24(月) 09:07:01.82ID:iUt0VjPx0
Telling her life story at 23?
When I was 23 I was just river fishing every day without a thought in my head.
13Anonymous2026/08/24(月) 09:08:16.73ID:OzWC4aLe0
It probably opens with 'I've always been insecure about my square-shaped face…'
14Anonymous2026/08/24(月) 09:08:30.69ID:cCK1FPbz0
She must really have something she wants to get across through her life story.
20Anonymous2026/08/24(月) 09:13:12.90ID:x5aLpGdD0
She's missed her window to reveal her face.
If she's ever gonna do it, now's the only time.

Making it big as a masked singer is kind of the dream, honestly.
She gets to keep her private life to herself while still enjoying all the perks of being a celebrity.

And since she's selling herself on singing ability but never really has to go all-out live, it's harder for her limits to show.
Same goes for VTubers.
We're heading into a world where everything's processed and edited, and the "real thing" just gets pushed out.

Just get an actual human to do the narration.
Though I only ever listen to Hit's the Town on the radio anyway, so whatever. (referring to an NHK radio program)
24Anonymous2026/08/24(月) 09:15:16.78ID:QO97itBf0
Her last real hit was like 3 years ago at this point.
Starting to smell like she's washed up.
27Anonymous2026/08/24(月) 09:18:51.36ID:gvneZnlf0
Shouldn't this whole anonymous-persona thing get more criticism?
28Anonymous2026/08/24(月) 09:19:04.28ID:3kHbmv1D0
This is basically a callout to guys like us who hit middle age and still have nothing worth telling.
30Anonymous2026/08/24(月) 09:19:53.42ID:3nsyMd1h0
The second she showed her face, the fans all bailed at once.
So blatant it's funny.

Same thing I thought when Nankai Candies' Yamasato got a life-story drama —
she's not exactly someone with enough life behind her to tell a 'life story' yet lol
33Anonymous2026/08/24(月) 09:22:42.25ID:txH/q+/u0
Donating 40 million yen for the Kumamoto earthquake while still in her 20s — that's a hell of a woman.

Stuff like that is usually paid for by her talent agency, you know.

23-year-old: "My life story is…"
That's a joke.
39Anonymous2026/08/24(月) 09:26:13.58ID:u/j2bnPh0
Ado: "That was the day my soul as a singer and my soul as a dancer split apart."
42Anonymous2026/08/24(月) 09:37:00.95ID:dYWG0siI0
Hope she doesn't fall into the "NHK curse." (a superstition that artists decline after big NHK specials)
Though maybe she's already in it, which is why NHK picked her up.
43Anonymous2026/08/24(月) 09:37:30.13ID:/sd0A/6J0
There were masked singers back in the Showa era too.
Nothing new here.
47Anonymous2026/08/24(月) 09:51:49.53ID:dl+KE4PX0
Listening to her covers made me realize her philosophy as a singer is just different from Akina's, so she doesn't need to overthink it. Pushing forward with her own style is probably the greatest respect she can pay to those who came before her. (Akina Nakamori, a legendary singer)
48Anonymous2026/08/24(月) 09:53:11.83ID:k1h8KIcV0
Is she gonna keep this up without ever showing her face?
I'd like to actually see her sing though.
51Anonymous2026/08/24(月) 10:05:41.86ID:pEzQBiQH0
Wait, is Ado 50 already?
Only old geezers do this kind of retrospective thing.
52Anonymous2026/08/24(月) 10:06:30.28ID:iOqJQz1y0
Honestly, Ado's on a rapid decline.
54Anonymous2026/08/24(月) 10:08:50.30ID:ojpTN7Yy0
Well, summing up your life in your 20s is pretty common though.
Everyone probably feels like it's been a damn long road regardless of actual age.
57Anonymous2026/08/24(月) 10:13:22.22ID:Zbd49JXL0
But she does talk about herself sometimes, like being an only child with parents who fought constantly…
Still, I don't know exactly how old Ado is, but she seems pretty young, and I don't think she's racked up enough life experience yet to really call it a 'life story.'

A life story's a life story, whatever the length.
