  • Current Idol Says “Dating Ban Isn’t Really Necessary” — Sparks Debate; 5ch: “An Idol Is Still Just an Idol”

The unwritten “no dating” rule remains deeply entrenched in the idol world. Against that backdrop, a current idol’s comment — “That rule doesn’t really need to exist, does it? We’re professionals at singing and dancing” — became a hot topic on 5ch. In the thread, some agreed: “If they’re professionals, they should be free like artists are.” Others pushed back: “Idols are sold as a total package that includes pseudo-romance, not just singing and dancing.” Opinions split over how dating affects popularity and over what “professional” even means.

The idol business sells singing, dancing, looks, and the pseudo-romance angle all bundled together as one package.
If you're that confident in your singing and dancing, don't be an idol — write, compose, arrange, and sing everything yourself and sell it that way.
    Then nobody would complain.

    37AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:51
You can't keep selling as a singer unless the songs are genuinely good.
As for dancing, you can't make a living at it unless you're world-class to begin with.
But just say 'I don't have a boyfriend' and you can get fans to shower you with money even if you're terrible — that's obviously the better deal.

You guys are defining 'professional' way too narrowly.
A baseball player batting under .100 is still a pro.
A guy who looks headed for retirement without ever leaving the minor leagues is still a pro.
    Being a pro doesn't mean you're high-level — if you get paid for it, you're a pro.
    56AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:56
    Re: #50
    That's true.
But idols aren't selling singing and dancing alone as their product, so they're not 'professional singers and dancers.'
An idol is still just an idol.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

The idol “no dating” rule sometimes comes from an explicit clause in an agency contract or internal rulebook, and sometimes it’s a line idols draw for themselves out of fear of fan backlash or a drop in popularity. In this thread, one comment noted that “it’s not the agency banning it — the idols restrict themselves because otherwise fans stop spending money,” and reactions split depending on differing assumptions about who’s actually imposing the ban. Opinions also clashed over what counts as “professional” — whether it should be judged purely on singing and dancing skill, or on the idol’s overall value as a product, pseudo-romance included. How popularity is affected once a relationship comes to light also varies by group and fanbase, suggesting there’s no one-size-fits-all answer here.

  • Solo Trip to Kurashiki, Okayama — 5ch Says ‘The Historic District Is Best at Night’

In a 5ch thread titled “Solo Kurashiki wanderer here, starting my night drink,” a poster on a solo trip through Kurashiki, Okayama, live-posted their journey. As they shared photos of meat dishes and local sweets while enjoying a night of solo drinking, replies poured in pointing out nearby highlights like the Ohara Museum of Art, the Horseshoe Crab Museum, and the contemporary art spots on Inujima Island. The thread also touched on a famous Kurashiki udon shop and swapped chatter about the distance to neighboring Himeji, while photos of the historic district at night drew widespread praise, with commenters agreeing “the district is best at night.”

    118AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:12

    Lovely, isn't it?

    Background and Key Points

Kurashiki’s Bikan Historical Quarter is a preserved townscape lined with Edo-era white-walled storehouses, known as a tourist destination home to the Ohara Museum of Art, Japan’s first private museum dedicated to Western art. The Horseshoe Crab Museum mentioned in the thread is actually located not in Kurashiki but in the neighboring city of Kasaoka, a fair distance from the city center, so the “that’s far” reactions are geographically fair. As for the distance to Himeji, it’s about a 30-minute ride by shinkansen or roughly 2 hours by local train, so the split reactions of “that’s close” versus “the other place is more appealing” likely reflect differing tastes in city size and tourist attractions. The freewheeling live commentary of a solo traveler, bouncing off replies from apparent locals, makes for an exchange that rediscovers the charm of a regional city.

  • Fushimi Inari calls out foreign tourists’ dancing — but 5ch says ‘Japanese people do it too’

A video of foreign tourists dancing at the “Senbon Torii” (Thousand Torii Gates) of Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto has gone viral on social media, sparking controversy. On September 7, the shrine posted a notice on its official website asking visitors to behave with restraint, citing conduct that inconveniences other worshippers. Speaking to J-CAST, a shrine spokesperson commented, “It’s disappointing that Japanese culture isn’t understood.” On 5ch forums, users debated whether the behavior at the torii gates could be compared to similar acts at other religious sites, with some pointing out that Japanese influencers have done the same kind of dancing — leaving posters divided over whether this can really be called “a foreigners-only problem.”

    2026.09.10 17:58, Hiroyuki Noguchi

Videos showing foreign tourists dancing on their own under the torii gates at Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto — famous for its “Senbon Torii” — have been circulating one after another on X since September 2026, causing a stir.

On the 7th, citing behavior that inconveniences other worshippers, Inari Taisha called for restrained conduct via a notice on its official website. We spoke to a shrine spokesperson to find out what’s actually happening on the ground.

People have been carving their names into torii gates,
and haven't you heard arson's been on the rise lately too?

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Fushimi Inari Taisha is famous for its “Senbon Torii” (Thousand Torii Gates) and is a hugely popular spot for foreign tourists. This latest appeal came after reports that dancing and similar behavior done for photos or videos under the torii gates was inconveniencing other worshippers. In the thread, many posters drew comparisons to churches, mosques, and other religious sites, while others pointed out that Japanese influencers have done similar things — raising the question of whether this can really be pinned down as just “foreign tourists’ manners.” Some also noted the distinction between the space under the torii gates and places like the kagura-den (sacred dance hall), where offerings and performances are traditionally meant to happen, suggesting the debate may hinge less on whether the act itself is wrong and more on “choosing the right spot.” Note: posts touching on political topics or sweeping generalizations about specific ethnic groups have been excluded from this writeup.

  • Kojima Productions’ Move to Xbox Shakes PlayStation Community — Longtime Fans Turning into ‘Flipped Haters’

Developments surrounding Kojima Productions’ new titles became a hot topic on 5ch’s hardware/industry board (Geha). According to the thread, OD, said to have originally been in development for Google, was picked up by Microsoft and remains in production, while Physint, reportedly a PlayStation title, has also moved to Microsoft due to circumstances on Sony’s side. Opinions in the thread were split on whether the delays are Kojima Productions’ fault or the result of Sony’s shift away from big-budget single-player games, and the discussion drew attention as criticism came even from posters who had long defended Sony.

Unlike something like Monster Hunter, MGS was never all that celebrated even when ported to Nintendo hardware.
Kojima worship stayed rooted in PlayStation, and that continued even after his work stopped being MGS.
But now Kojima's been cut loose by Sony and is shaking hands with Microsoft —

Background and Key Points of Debate

The hardware/industry board known as “Geha” is a place where rivalries between fanbases tend to surface every time relationships with platform holders shift, and this thread followed that pattern once again. It’s worth noting that the details discussed in the thread about OD’s history and Physint’s move being due to circumstances on Sony’s side are all secondhand accounts from posters, not official announcements. The core of the debate splits between those who put the blame for development delays on the studio itself and those who point to a shift in publisher policy away from big-budget single-player development — the latter view echoes a topic that has come up across the wider game industry recently amid rising development costs. The fact that criticism came even from posters long seen as pro-Sony is part of what drove this thread’s momentum.

  • 24% Say They “Trust” Social Media Information — Trust Runs Higher Among Younger Generations, Yomiuri/Waseda Survey Finds

A joint nationwide public opinion survey conducted by the Yomiuri Shimbun and Waseda University found that only 24% of respondents said they “trust” social media information about political and social events, while 74% said they “don’t trust” it. By age group, the 18-39 bracket had the highest rate at 38%, a stark contrast to just 14% among those 60 and older. On the thread, some took the result as reassuring — “good that it’s still a minority” — while others pushed back hard, insisting “old media can’t be trusted anymore either.” Opinion was split over which source actually deserves more trust.

In a joint nationwide public opinion survey (conducted by mail) by the Yomiuri Shimbun and Waseda University’s Institute for Advanced Social Sciences, respondents were asked how much they trust information on social media platforms such as YouTube and X (formerly Twitter) regarding political and social affairs.

Those who said they “trust” it — including “to some extent” — came to 24% in total, while those who “don’t trust” it — including “not very much” — reached 74%.

Broken down by age, the share who said they “trust” it was 38% among 18-39 year-olds, 28% among 40-59 year-olds, and 14% among those 60 and older — trust was higher the younger the age group.

"Think for yourself" is a classic excuse dummies use when they just want to ignore inconvenient sources. Sure, verifying something as fact with 100% accuracy is impossible — but there's a world of difference between someone who's actually trying to verify things, aiming to get as close to 100% accuracy as they can, and someone who's given up on verifying anything, pushes their own delusions, and calls it "thinking for myself" for self-satisfaction.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

The Yomiuri Shimbun and Waseda University run this joint nationwide mail-in survey every year, and this round asked not only about trust in social media but also how people actually get their political information. In a separate question from the same survey, cited in post #30, the top sources for political information were commercial TV at 25% and NHK at 22%, with video sites and social media combined accounting for only around 15%. In other words, there’s a gap between the 24% “trust” figure and how much people actually rely on social media to gather information — a nuance easy to miss without reading the original article. The thread split over which is less trustworthy, social media or old media, with arguments about how reach scales with the sheer number of posters running alongside pushback along the lines of “the media is just as guilty.” Note that the thread never really digs into how strong the correlation is between trusting social media and “higher approval of extreme claims” — for that detail, you’d need to check the analysis in the original article.

On September 10, 2026, 5ch’s “Hello! Project” board lit up over live commentary on the Giants-Dragons game at Tokyo Dome. While fans grumbled about Dragons pitcher Kanamaru giving up a hit off his curveball for the second straight game, the real focus of the thread was Yomiuri Giants star Hayato Sakamoto’s doubles total. He’s managed just 4 so far this season, a steep drop from his 29 in 2023, but posters reacted to the note that he’s now just “14 doubles away” from Kazuyoshi Tatsunami’s all-time NPB doubles record. Skepticism about whether he’ll actually get there mixed with jokes like “he just hit one!” and “he’ll get there next year as a DH.”

Sure, if the bases weren't loaded

    Background and Talking Points

Kazuyoshi Tatsunami finished his playing career with 487 doubles, the most in NPB history, so even by simple arithmetic Sakamoto still needs a substantial number more to match him. Looking at the year-by-year doubles totals posters cited (29 in 2023 → 14 in 2024 → 10 in 2025 → 4 in 2026), the clear downward trend explains why many in the thread were skeptical he’d ever catch up. The “he’ll get there next year as a DH” joke, meanwhile, plays off the fact that Sakamoto has kept playing the field despite the physical toll, implying a DH role would free up more playing time and spare his body. How close Sakamoto actually gets to Tatsunami’s record will depend on his games played and hitting output going forward — nothing in this thread amounts to a definitive prediction.

  • Is the Switch 2 Version Fair to Call a ‘Downgrade’? 5ch Splits Over the Question

A thread on 5ch’s “Hardware & Industry” (console war) board took off over how Switch 2 versions of games are being treated. It started with a post arguing that the question has shifted from “will it come to Switch 2?” to “when will the Switch 2 version come out?” — with Monster Hunter Wilds’ Switch 2 port becoming the focus of discussion. Reports that the game’s file size has been drastically cut split opinion: some called it a fair trade-off for prioritizing frame rate, while others saw it as a de facto downgrade the platform was being shortchanged with. The debate also pulled in comparisons of total title counts against PS5, Xbox, and PC, spiraling into an argument over which platform comes out on top.

With Monster Hunter Wilds actually coming out on it, you can see why people are saying that.
At this point, pretty much the only games that can't come to Switch 2 are the ones with absolutely massive file sizes.
Realistically, everyone already knows 8K support on PS5 or Xbox doesn't actually matter, so there's no differentiation left that casual users genuinely care about.

"Prioritized" or not, there's no way Switch 2's weak hardware can reliably hit 60fps

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Arguments like this rarely boil down to a simple performance comparison, since they get tangled up with the Switch 2’s dual identity as both a home console and a handheld. It’s worth noting that the “Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds’ file size” and the title-count comparisons cited in the thread are figures based on 5ch users’ hearsay and impressions, not official numbers from the manufacturers. Whether a smaller file size means lower texture quality or simply optimization that prioritizes frame rate varies title by title, and this thread split over exactly that interpretation. The same fault lines that have run through past hardware debates — exclusive versus multiplatform, performance versus portability — underpin this one too, and the arrival of Switch 2 seems to be gradually shifting where the emphasis falls.

*This article is compiled as an excerpt and summary of the 5ch (Hardware & Industry / console war) thread “The Switch 2 Era Where Every Game Eventually Comes Out.”

  • Japan Autism Society Slams ‘Mii-chan’ Anime Adaptation: ‘We Have Grave Concerns’

Following the announcement of an anime adaptation of the manga “Mii-chan,” the Japan Autism Society published a statement outlining the work’s problems, saying “we have grave concerns.” On 5ch’s “Nanademo Jikkyo G” board, users piled on with reports that a sponsor had pulled out of the anime project and that ads for it had appeared at Sendai Station, while others pointed out that the group supposedly overseeing the manga’s supervision was actually the author’s father. The thread turned into a long-running debate over whether to prioritize freedom of expression or to treat the content as a problem under the “public welfare” clause.

    So what?

Background and Key Points of This Debate

It’s unusual for a public disability advocacy organization like the Japan Autism Society to publish a formal statement expressing “grave concerns” about a specific manga or anime title, which suggests just how strong the social reaction has been. The thread split over whether freedom of expression should take priority or whether the problematic depictions should be restricted on “public welfare” grounds, and the back-and-forth over how to interpret the constitutional “public welfare” clause went on for hours. It’s worth noting, though, that the claim that the supervising organization was actually the author’s father was only ever raised within the thread itself and has not been officially confirmed. It’s also worth noting that the statement itself doesn’t flatly declare the work “discriminatory”—it’s framed as an expression of concern—a nuance easy to lose amid the thread’s heated back-and-forth.

  • New Kirby Trailer Gets Crushed in Views by the Yo-kai Watch 2 Remake — 5ch: “Nobody Actually Wants Kirby”

The trailer for the new Kirby title revealed at Nintendo’s latest Direct was left far behind in view count by the trailer for the Yo-kai Watch 2 remake, announced in the same broadcast. According to the opening post of the thread, the Yo-kai Watch 2 remake trailer racked up 1.5 million views, while the new Kirby game, which closed out the presentation, managed only 840,000. The numbers sparked debate on 5ch’s Hardware/Industry board over whether Kirby can really be called one of Nintendo’s flagship titles, and whether comparing games by view count even makes sense in the first place. Posters also revisited the sales trajectory of the Yo-kai Watch series and Kirby’s popularity overseas.

Those didn't just generate buzz, they actually sold well, and the bugs were even enjoyed by some to a degree — but even accounting for the announcement, the post-launch period, and the quality, they still got panned
For better or worse, that game is nothing more than Diamond/Pearl without the sluggishness

Bringing up the Diamond/Pearl remakes with a "but they sold well though"…😅

To begin with, did Nintendo really think putting Kirby in the finale slot would get the public hyped?
It's just not that kind of game…
    68AnonymousSep 10, 2026 18:11
    Re: #60
I'm pretty sure Forgotten Land was also in the finale slot, if I remember right

    Re: #60
There's no way Nintendo is chasing buzz when they put the Paper Mario RPG remake in the finale slot
The finale is for whatever title they most want to sell — buzz-bait tends to show up more in the middle-to-late section, or as the opener
    66AnonymousSep 10, 2026 18:10
HAL Laboratory can't really make fun games, can they

It hasn't even been a full day and people have already forgotten about the Direct, too busy bashing Sony over in the Kojima Productions thread instead — that alone shows how much this broadcast flopped

Kirby as the grand finale really was a step too far…
    86AnonymousSep 10, 2026 18:19
    Re: #78
Getting talked about on some backwater board like this counts as success now?
Then Sony's move this time was a massive success. Congrats

    Yo-kai Watch 2 domestic sales… 6 million copies
Kirby and the Forgotten Land domestic sales… 1.8 million copies

You just don't know how huge Yo-kai Watch 2 was
It even got a slot on Kohaku (NHK's New Year's Eve music special) — back then it was a title that outdid Pokémon domestically

    Re: #85
Looking at this, maybe Kirby is actually more popular overseas than in Japan
I think Forgotten Land sold 7.5 million worldwide, if I remember right
    90AnonymousSep 10, 2026 18:20
Kirby is launching in the first half of next year, but when's this one coming out?
    93AnonymousSep 10, 2026 18:23
    Re: #90
Earliest case, the year after next
If it were coming next year they'd be saying '2027' by this point
Though knowing Level-5, it'll probably actually be more like 5 years from now

Background and Key Points of Discussion

Putting the numbers from the thread together: Yo-kai Watch’s domestic momentum peaked at 6 million copies with the second installment before falling sharply to 2.2 million for the third and just 300,000 for the fourth. Kirby, meanwhile, saw its previous entry, Forgotten Land, sell 1.8 million copies domestically but a reported 7.5 million worldwide, making it hard to judge popularity from Japanese view counts alone. The thread split over two points: how much a same-day view count actually reflects later sales or popularity, and whether Kirby can really be called a title on the scale of a Nintendo “flagship.” Some argued that placing a game in the finale slot isn’t necessarily about chasing buzz but rather signals high sales expectations, and there was overall caution about drawing conclusions from a simple view-count comparison.

  • Fukuoka Assemblyman’s “Titanic Duty Trip” Sparks Debate After Miyane Defends It

During a taxpayer-funded official inspection trip to Bangkok, Thailand, a Fukuoka prefectural assembly member posted footage to social media showing them dancing to the theme from the movie “Titanic” at a reception, drawing criticism. Smart FLASH reported that Seiji Miyane of the TV show “Miyaneya” remarked, “Do we always have to be deadly serious?” — a comment seen as defending the assemblyman — which sparked controversy on 5channel as well. In the thread, opinions split between those arguing “a bit of letting loose should be tolerated” and those countering “goofing off on camera during an official, taxpayer-funded trip is out of the question,” with reactions to Miyane’s remark itself also divided.

    He's out of touch.
No wonder the show's getting cancelled.
    7AnonymousSep 10, 2026 15:57
Maybe he should try going off-topic mid-broadcast sometime and see how that goes.
    9AnonymousSep 10, 2026 15:58
Well of course he'd defend him — it's an Ishin (Japan Innovation Party) member getting criticized.
    11AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:01
I guess his point is: just let it slide if it's only goofing around over a meal?
    12AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:02
Well, Miyane does have a point — it's fine to blow off some steam.
But the whole trip was probably nothing but blowing off steam,
and that's exactly why people want to criticize it.

I mean, they were literally calling it a trip.
    13AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:06
Thailand… Titanic… get it? (´・ω・`) Not that funny, honestly.
    15AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:08
Whatever part was just goofing off and having fun, they should've paid for that out of their own pocket.
    16AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:10
    Re: #1
    Well, obviously.
The money that lets them travel abroad in luxury on the taxpayer's dime is meant to fund actual work.
Save the goofing off for a private trip you pay for yourself.
Bringing family along too — honestly, every assembly member involved should have to resign and be barred from running in the next election.
    18AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:19
    That's not true at all.
If you're spending tax money and then flaunt the fact you're having fun, of course you're going to get slammed for it.
    19AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:19
Broadcasting every moment you're goofing off is just dumb.
    20AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:21
    Bangkok, Thailand, huh.
The Fukuoka prefectural assembly really loves Southeast Asia.
    23AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:26
If it happened at the reception, that should be fine.
    24AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:28
Do it on your own dime. Don't play around with tax money. It's that simple.
    27AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:34
I wonder if it'd be okay to blast music from your phone in the middle of a company meeting.
    29AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:37
Is it okay to use a crude word like "kuso" (crap/damn) in an official statement?

    Talking would've been enough.
    34AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:43
    That's what you'd think, but
once people decide to hate you, everything you do gets hated on.

Abe clowned around way more than this in his Mario costume.
If he did that today he'd probably get destroyed for it lol
    35AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:45
You wouldn't do this at work.
You wouldn't even do this at a drinking party.
    36AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:48
Oh, so it wasn't on the bow of a ship during the inspection itself, just at the reception?
It's a reception — throwing in a goofy bit like that should be fine lol
    37AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:49
Sure, you don't have to be dead serious the whole time,
but the simple point is: don't clown around somewhere that's going to be filmed or recorded while you're on official duty.
    Even a grade-schooler gets that.
It's like saying 'save the pillow fight for when the teacher isn't looking.'
    39AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:53
If they're actually doing the job properly, I don't see the issue.
Like, just because something sad happened doesn't mean you can never laugh again either.
But were they actually doing the work properly?
    40AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:54
If that's the standard, then the "Eiffel Tower ladies" wouldn't have gotten bashed so hard either lol
    41AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:54
    They're getting criticized because it's a taxpayer-funded trip abroad.
    44AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:58
I doubt the time spent on serious inspection, discussion, debate, summarizing, recording, and reporting even matched the time spent at the Titanic party.
    Probably zero, honestly.
    45AnonymousSep 10, 2026 17:00
Miyane's probably already made a ton of money,
so now he wants prestige — I bet he's going into politics next.
That's probably why he's defending them.
    46AnonymousSep 10, 2026 17:02
This guy loves clowning around even about stuff like Harimoto's obituary today.
He probably just wants people to think he's a fun old guy.
    47AnonymousSep 10, 2026 17:09
"Eiffel" Matsukawa and "Titanic" guy both should've just never posted it to social media in the first place.
    49AnonymousSep 10, 2026 17:12
How many seconds long was that "deadly serious talk," exactly?
    77AnonymousSep 10, 2026 18:09
I wish he'd said the same thing during the Eiffel Tower incident.
    He's got a point though.
Don't you guys also take photos in front of statues or buy souvenirs when you go on a work trip somewhere?
    83AnonymousSep 10, 2026 18:20
    Re: #77
Nobody said don't do it at all.
Just do it somewhere no one can see, that's all.

Background and Key Points of This Story

This “Titanic duty trip” controversy stems from a Fukuoka prefectural assembly member posting social media footage of themselves dancing to the movie’s theme music at a reception during a taxpayer-funded inspection trip to Bangkok, Thailand — behavior criticized as inappropriate during an official, publicly funded trip. Similar incidents have cropped up repeatedly this year, and on 5channel commenters have drawn comparisons to the earlier “Eiffel Tower pose” scandal involving Liberal Democratic Party lawmakers, framing this as part of a pattern where “every overseas inspection trip ends up going viral for its goof-off moments.” Opinion split largely over the fact that the incident in question happened not during the inspection itself but at a social reception, with one side arguing “criticizing people over a bit of downtime is overkill” and the other maintaining “goofing around anywhere that ends up on camera is unacceptable when you’re on the public dime.” Reactions were similarly divided over Seiji Miyane’s comment, “Do we always have to be deadly serious?” — with some reading it as a genuine defense and others as him simply deflecting. One point that’s easy to misread: the criticism here targets specifically “behavior in moments that get filmed and shared while on official, publicly funded duty,” not the substance or merits of the inspection trip itself, which this thread does not address.
