Kojima Productions’ Move to Xbox Shakes PlayStation Community — Longtime Fans Turning into ‘Flipped Haters’

The story

Developments surrounding Kojima Productions’ new titles became a hot topic on 5ch’s hardware/industry board (Geha). According to the thread, OD, said to have originally been in development for Google, was picked up by Microsoft and remains in production, while Physint, reportedly a PlayStation title, has also moved to Microsoft due to circumstances on Sony’s side. Opinions in the thread were split on whether the delays are Kojima Productions’ fault or the result of Sony’s shift away from big-budget single-player games, and the discussion drew attention as criticism came even from posters who had long defended Sony.

This has to be the worst it's ever gotten.
4AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:01
OD is the project Google dropped and Microsoft picked up — we still don't even know a release date.
Physint is the one Sony finally lost patience with and dropped, and Microsoft picked that up too.

Maybe the problem is on the director's side?

Re: #4
OD only just got a teaser last year and is in normal development, and Physint hasn't even started development.
Where's the problem supposed to be?
9AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:04
Honestly, if it's not just Konami but Sony too, the problem's probably on Kojima's end.
His timelines are way too long and the return on investment is way too low.
15AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:07
Re: #9
He'll probably get kicked out by Microsoft too and end up crawling to Nintendo last.
20AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:07
Re: #9
A bit late for that take.
The Kojima stans who were bashing Konami are out of their minds.
17AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:07
On the flip side, apparently even Xbox fans are asking "is this really okay with Microsoft?"
Look at PlatinumGames' dragon project — if you can't hit deadlines and it looks like a bust, they'll cut you loose without hesitation.
If OD succeeds, he'll be fine though.

Re: #17
Kamiya's thing wasn't even about deadlines — it just died because the gameplay was way too boring.
That last co-op gameplay trailer they put out was rough.
29AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:10
Shouldn't Kojima fanboys just be happy as long as a game comes out? Why are they bashing PlayStation?
OD is on Xbox too, so now it's just one platform to worry about — isn't that a good thing?
32AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:12
Re: #29
Would you forgive the entity that decided the thing you worship wasn't worth spending money on and kicked it out?
33AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:13
SIE: "Let's boost hardware power and sell rich, high-end games!"
SIE: "…wait, dev time and costs went way up and now we can't even be sure of a return…"

SIE: "Fine, guess we don't need single-player games anymore! ☆ Break up the studios, break 'em all up!"

Re: #33
They probably figure they can rake in huge profits through PSN without even releasing games.
You can tell they basically look down on games and gamers.
Honestly there's nothing left to defend about Sony right now.
34AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:13
Even 'Gikkuri-sensei' is criticizing Sony now — this is historic. (a well-known poster long seen as staunchly pro-Sony)

Re: #34
Lol.
That's genuinely a big deal.
43AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:17
Re: #34
Seriously?
I figured that guy and Rent were Sony loyalists no matter what happened.
106AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:25
Re: #34
I didn't even know that guy was capable of criticizing Sony.

Honestly, Death Stranding's sales weren't even that impressive — I guess Kojima's games carry too many memories from PlayStation's glory days to just let go of.
40AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:15
Lol, the brainwashing's wearing off. Kojikan's power is no joke. ("Kojikan" = a nickname for Director Kojima)

Re: #40
Lol, they're waking up.
What do they even do now — their beloved PS is dying, Switch is off-limits since it's "the enemy religion," and PC's out too because they're not smart enough to use one.
Guess it's retirement time…

Re: #40
They pinpointed exactly what's wrong this precisely, yet stayed a fanboy until now — kind of dumb when you think about it.
56AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:19
Re: #40
I mean, their patience with SIE has probably just run out.
Up until now they were venting their anger at Nintendo,
but now even that's not an option anymore.
42AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:17
This is hilarious.
54AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:19
Re: #42
How am I supposed to read this?
Are they saying Concord is worse than Kojikan?
59AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:19
Well, it's probably true that single-player games cost a ton but don't pay off well.
Though to be fair, multiplayer games are only huge if they hit — if they flop, it's just as much money down the drain.
69AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:21
Re: #59
If all you want is profit, just make gacha games and be done with it.
Game fans take pride and see culture in the fact that there are works out there that are, in a sense, art — that's not the same thing.
83AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:22
Unlike something like Monster Hunter, MGS was never all that celebrated even when ported to Nintendo hardware.
Kojima worship stayed rooted in PlayStation, and that continued even after his work stopped being MGS.
But now Kojima's been cut loose by Sony and is shaking hands with Microsoft —
one more symbolic pillar gone, and the PlayStation community is falling apart over it.
95AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:24
Re: #83
Maybe it was never celebrated, but the reality is that even with the Master Collection, Switch outsold the other platform's version.
94AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:24
Director Kojima is pro-physical media, so maybe that's exactly why SIE cut him loose?
103AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:25
Re: #94
Kojima was cut loose back in June, before the complaints about dropping physical discs even started.
135AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:33
No joke, but shouldn't you fight tooth and nail to hold onto a flagship title like this even if it's running a loss?
It goes straight to your brand image.
Why would Sony deliberately let go of someone this big?
137AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:33
Re: #135
Nobody on this earth can understand what SIE is thinking these days.
How did it come to this?
138AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:34
Re: #135
I mean, did Death Stranding really become a flagship title, though?
145AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:35
Re: #135
If this were a third party like Konami, it'd make sense, but the platform holder itself is doing this.
Ever since it moved its base to California, SIE looks like it's been tearing itself apart.
166AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:38
On the flip side, Microsoft shouldn't just write him off easily like it has with all the studios it's abandoned before.
Let Kojikan spend as much money as he wants, and it'll still pay off in advertising value.
169AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:39
Re: #166
Microsoft's going to run dry!
171AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:39
Re: #166
I want to believe they're not dumb enough to actually do that…

…but it's Microsoft, so it's entirely possible.

Background and Key Points of Debate

The hardware/industry board known as “Geha” is a place where rivalries between fanbases tend to surface every time relationships with platform holders shift, and this thread followed that pattern once again. It’s worth noting that the details discussed in the thread about OD’s history and Physint’s move being due to circumstances on Sony’s side are all secondhand accounts from posters, not official announcements. The core of the debate splits between those who put the blame for development delays on the studio itself and those who point to a shift in publisher policy away from big-budget single-player development — the latter view echoes a topic that has come up across the wider game industry recently amid rising development costs. The fact that criticism came even from posters long seen as pro-Sony is part of what drove this thread’s momentum.
