  • Nobuhiko Takada Awarded Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt by Hickson Gracie — 5ch: ‘Wasn’t He Undefeated in 4,000 Fights?’

Former pro wrestler Nobuhiko Takada announced on Instagram on September 13 that he had been awarded a black belt in jiu-jitsu by Hickson Gracie. Takada and Gracie faced off at PRIDE.1 in 1997 and PRIDE.4 in 1998, with Takada losing by armbar submission both times, but the two have kept up a teacher-student relationship through jiu-jitsu ever since. The thread ranged widely, with some pointing out that it’s ‘an honorary belt, not one earned through skill,’ and others lamenting the state of Japan’s fighting scene given how much bigger overseas promotions like the UFC and WWE have become in asset value.

    9/13/2026

Former pro wrestler and TV personality Nobuhiko Takada updated his Instagram on the 13th, announcing that he had been awarded a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt by Hickson Gracie.

Takada and Gracie faced off at the mixed martial arts event ‘PRIDE.1,’ held in October 1997. In that bout, Takada suffered a submission loss to Gracie’s armbar. The two met again the following October at ‘PRIDE.4,’ where Takada once more lost by submission to Gracie’s armbar. Having fought two fierce battles, the pair still appear to keep in touch through jiu-jitsu — as recently as last December, Takada posted on Instagram that he was taking jiu-jitsu lessons from Gracie.

He lost, so is that supposed to count as sportsmanlike?
Even though Hickson trashed him afterward,
calling him basically the weakest opponent he ever faced.

    #3: ¥309 billion — AEW
    #4: ¥200.9 billion — ONE
    #5: ¥131.3 billion — Matchroom Boxing (boxing)

    #8: ¥92.7 billion — Premier Boxing (boxing)
#9: ¥69.5 billion — Golden Boy Promotions (boxing)

The UFC alone is worth ¥1.7459 trillion,
yet boxing's four biggest global promotions — Matchroom Boxing, Top Rank Boxing, Premier Boxing, and Golden Boy Promotions — combined only add up to a mere ¥390.8 billion

I'd like to hear what Hickson thought of the recent Mikuru Asakura vs. Shinya Aoki fight.
To an amateur's eye, Aoki looked like an idiot for releasing his own figure-four leglock,
but then his nickname is 'Aho-ki' (a pun on 'aho,' meaning idiot), so I guess he lived up to it.

I recently watched that video of Fujiwara's attack during the Fujinami vs. Chōshū match — the so-called 'Sapporo Terror' incident —
and Takada, working as an attendant back then, looked so young and skinny
that there wasn't a hint of the guy who'd later do his 'Generalissimo' cosplay gimmick. Made me kind of nostalgic.
    81AnonymousSep 13, 2026 19:02
    Re: #25
Takada said Fujinami is normally an incredibly gentle guy,
but that was the one time he got hit by him.
Furious that Fujiwara's attack on Chōshū had wrecked the WWF International Heavyweight title match,
Fujinami reportedly said 'I quit this company,' punched his attendant Takada,
then walked back to the hotel stark naked without even taking his room key.
    26AnonymousSep 13, 2026 18:12
That scream of 'AAAAAH!' he let out in the shower room after losing — that's probably what earned him the black belt.

Background and Talking Points on This Topic

Nobuhiko Takada and Hickson Gracie fought twice — at PRIDE.1 in 1997 and PRIDE.4 the following year, 1998 — with Takada losing by armbar submission both times. Some in the thread view this result as the catalyst that brought mixed martial arts wide recognition in Japan. Opinion split over how to regard the black belt: some pointed out that it’s ‘an honorary belt, not one earned through competitive skill,’ while others cited the case of Enson Inoue to question whether it carries official recognition from the IBJJF (International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation). Jiu-jitsu black belts can be awarded either based on competitive achievement or as an honorary gesture recognizing a mentor-student relationship or other contributions — the latter doesn’t necessarily come with certification from an international body. It’s also worth noting, as a side topic not found in the original article, that Forbes’ figures showing the UFC and WWE’s combined value exceeding that of boxing’s four major promotions prompted comments about their shared parent company, Endeavor, and concerns about Japanese fighters increasingly heading overseas.

  • Mai Yajima & Saki Nakajima’s Bus Tour Draws Only ~120 Fans — 5ch: ‘Back in Their Heyday It Was More Like 400’

After Saki Nakajima posted a thank-you message on her own X account for the “Shimashima Bus Tour,” attendance numbers became a hot topic on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. With the event run using 3 chartered buses, turnout is estimated at around 120 people — prompting comments that the scale has shrunk compared to 10 years ago, when the pair were still active idols. The thread saw split opinions over the steep ticket prices and continuing this kind of work after marriage, along with comparisons to turnout figures from other graduates’ bus tours, such as those run by Saho Sayashi and Shizuka Kudo.

So that's like a sixth of what the Mikitty couple makes off a single commercial ("Mikitty" = fellow H!P alum Mari Yaguchi's nickname)

    Background and Key Points

Mai Yajima and Saki Nakajima are both former members of ℃-ute who have continued fan-facing events as solo artists or in one-off units since the group’s graduation. A “bus tour” — chartered buses that shuttle fans between live shows and meet-and-greets — is a business format unique to idol fan culture, and turnout numbers are frequently debated on 5ch as an informal popularity gauge. That said, the “120” and “400” figures floated in the thread are just estimates based on fans’ headcounts and the number of buses used, not official numbers from the organizers, so some caution is warranted. The question of continuing this kind of work after marriage and childbirth is also a perennially divisive topic, and this thread was no exception, with both “she’s a winner” takes and more critical ones appearing.

  • Daisuke Hori Snaps “Don’t Jump to Conclusions!” After Getting Caught Snoring During a Scalp Massage, Clashes with Valentine Hosokawa

Entrepreneur Daisuke Hori, who promotes himself on YouTube as sleeping just “30 minutes a day,” ran a livestream from September 9 documenting a week of his life — but on day two, he appeared to snore while asleep during a scalp treatment, prompting viewers to question his claims. Hori explained that he had merely experienced around 10 “microsleeps” — brief lapses of consciousness — but he went on to appear to be asleep during other spa treatments as well. When boxer Valentine Hosokawa called him out over the incident, it sparked a back-and-forth between the two, and a 5channel thread expanded into debate over whether Hori’s sleep claims are true, and even the business model behind his livestreams.

    Sun, Sep 13, 5:00 PM

Entrepreneur Daisuke Hori, the “30-minutes-a-day short sleeper,” currently streaming “[One-Week Livestream] The Daily Life of Short Sleeper Daisuke Hori” on YouTube, is facing a wave of criticism.

“There have been doubts raised about Hori, questioning whether he really sleeps only 30 minutes a day, and the livestream seems intended as proof against that. The stream started on the night of September 9, but on day two, the 10th, footage showed him appearing to snore while asleep partway through a head-spa massage from a beauty therapist. He later explained that he had entered a ‘microsleep’ state — a very brief form of sleep — around 10 times. Since then, there have been further scenes where he appears to be asleep during other treatments, such as facials.” (a sports newspaper reporter)

    Uchiyama is undeniably great

Background and Key Points of This Story

Daisuke Hori is known as a self-improvement-oriented entrepreneur who brands himself as a “short sleeper,” and doubts about the truth of his claimed sleep schedule have been raised before. This week-long livestream was likewise meant to serve as proof, but repeated scenes of him appearing to lose consciousness during treatments only ended up fueling the skepticism further. In the thread, many commenters tried to sort out the distinction between a “microsleep” — a lapse of consciousness lasting only tens of seconds — and a proper “nap,” suggesting the dispute is less a simple shouting match and more a disagreement over definitions. Others pointed to the livestream’s Super Chat earnings and to Hori’s sleep-technique seminar business, broadening the debate beyond the truth of his claims to whether he’s cashing in on them.

※This article is compiled from excerpts and a summary of the 5channel (Entertainment & Sports News+) thread “Daisuke Hori, the “30-minutes-a-day” sleeper, snaps “Don’t jump to conclusions!” after getting called out for “snoring during a scalp massage,” erupts into a fierce back-and-forth with Valentine Hosokawa.”

  • One Piece Lists Its Total Print Run in Creator’s Bio — 5ch: ‘Going Toe-to-Toe With the Bible’

It’s been noted on 5ch that One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda lists the series’ cumulative print run right in his own profile. Each volume reportedly has an initial print run of around 3 million copies, but some pointed out that POS sales data shows a steady decline in actual sales, splitting opinion in the thread over how to read the gap between print numbers and real sales. The discussion expanded into comparisons with the print runs and volume sales of other titles like Demon Slayer, BLEACH, and Dragon Ball, with posters repeatedly raising the question of how meaningful a simple cumulative-print-run comparison really is.

If you're gonna call the One Piece anime low quality, doesn't that make the manga itself garbage too, by that logic?

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

In the publishing industry, ‘print run’ refers to the number of copies delivered to distributors and bookstores, a different statistic from ‘actual sales,’ which reflects copies that actually reached readers. Cumulative print-run figures are sometimes published including copies later returned unsold, so the claim that first printings have held around 3 million copies per volume even as POS sales figures keep declining points to a growing gap between these two numbers. In this case, a single line in a profile section sparked a wider discussion comparing print-run rankings and sales with other titles such as Demon Slayer, BLEACH, and Dragon Ball. Whether you judge by cumulative print run, per-volume sales, or POS data changes the picture considerably, and that was the crux of the disagreement in the thread — it’s worth noting that such numbers often get compared without clearly stating their source or the date they were tallied.

  • Novelist Ryo Asai’s Dance Cover of Juice=Juice’s ‘Moreru! Mi Amore’ Goes Viral on X

Naoki Prize-winning author Ryo Asai has stirred up a huge reaction after posting a video of himself dancing to Juice=Juice’s song “Moreru! Mi Amore” on X. Asai wrote the original novel “Budokan,” believed to be based on Morning Musume, and has long been known as an outspoken Hello! Project fan. He reportedly brought up the video himself on a TBS info/variety show that same day, and on 5ch’s Hello! The epilogue of the original Budokan novel is plenty.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Ryo Asai is the author of the novel “Budokan” (published 2015), said to be modeled on Morning Musume, and has long publicly identified as a Hello! Project fan. The novel was adapted into a TV drama in 2022, but its broadcast and streaming were halted after a string of scandal reports involving the cast — this is the “curse” referenced in the thread. Meanwhile, “Moreru! Mi Amore” is a Juice=Juice song that has reportedly drawn harsh criticism from some fans over its choreography and concept. Opinions in the thread split over two points: the actual substance of Asai’s background as a “dancer” (whether he has any professional experience), and how to read a celebrity dancing to a song that’s often panned. This article excludes posts touching on past scandal reports involving the real actors, as well as jabs at appearance or voice and crude jokes, and instead focuses on posts that illuminate Asai’s identity as a Hello! Project fan and the background behind the original novel and its drama adaptation.

  • Downtown Wednesday’s “Detective Tsuda” Getting a New Episode? 5ch: “Surely Part 5 Should Be the Last One”

Kentaro Fujii, the director behind TBS’s “Downtown Wednesday,” updated X by September 13, 2026 with a photo that happened to include a shooting schedule sheet. The sheet listed a broadcast slot for “Wednesday, January 27, 2027, 22:00–22:57,” and 5ch users who spotted it began speculating that it points to a new installment of the popular segment “Detective Tsuda.” The thread saw a wave of comments arguing the segment has grown stale and bloated in scale in recent years and that it’s time to end it, while others pushed back in its defense, leaving opinion split.

    September 13, 2026, 3:45 PM

Kentaro Fujii, the network’s well-known staffer who directs the TBS variety show “Downtown Wednesday” (10:00 PM slot), updated X by the 13th. His post, offering a glimpse of a shoot date, has become a talking point.

Fujii wrote, “A shoot far enough out that even a demon would clap and laugh” (a twist on the Japanese saying that talking about the distant future makes even a demon laugh), and shared a photo in which the shoot date was legible. The printed shoot schedule sheet read “September 12 (Saturday), TBS.” It further noted “Wednesday, January 27, 2027, 22:00–22:57.”

Matsumoto's reaction cuts weren't funny either, but what really got on my nerves was the presenter-teasing before the VTR and those "I noticed that too" comments about irrelevant little details afterward.

Background and key points of this topic

“Detective Tsuda” is a popular Downtown Wednesday segment that has aired multiple times, putting talent Atsuhiro Tsuda into ambush-style situations to capture his reactions. Director Kentaro Fujii has repeatedly teased shoot dates and props on X to stir viewer speculation, and this latest post showing the “January 27, 2027” date is seen as more of the same. What split the thread was whether the segment itself is still worth doing: some argued the ever-inflating scale means a smaller-format version can no longer work and that it’s time to wrap things up after five installments, while others pushed back, essentially saying “just don’t watch it if you don’t like it.” Several commenters also noted that the atmosphere of the studio reaction shots has changed since headliner Hitoshi Matsumoto stopped appearing. Note that both the air date and the segment’s content remain speculation based on the leaked photo — there has been no official announcement from TBS or Fujii himself.

  • Where Will Hashisako Rin’s Fans Go Next? 5ch Hello!Project Board Buzzes With Oshi-Switch Predictions

A thread on 5ch’s Hello!Project board is debating where fans of Angerme’s Hashisako Rin will go next. The central question: how many will choose “oshi-sotsu” — quitting fandom altogether — versus switching their support to other Angerme members like Matsumoto, Tamenaga, or Kawana. Posters also pointed to past examples, like fans of former members such as Takeuchi, Sasaki, Jokoryo, and Kawamura drifting to Juice=Juice or Beyooooonds, floating the rule of thumb that female fans tend to move to other groups or drop out entirely, while male fans tend to keep supporting the group itself.

Hirayama's unlikely too, given her health issues and she's on the "retire after graduating college" track.
If it stays within Angerme, my bet's on Matsumoto, the frontrunner for next leader.

Did Sasaki and Hirayama's fanbases even overlap in the first place? I had the impression both had a lot of "intense" fans though.
    50AnonymousSep 13, 2026 16:09
They do share the type who see their oshi as playing the "male role" (a common trope for fans, sometimes called "man-san" in net slang), but otherwise the fanbases don't seem to overlap.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

“Oshi-hen” (switching who you stan) and “oshi-sotsu” (quitting fandom) are terms that come up constantly in Hello!Project fan culture, and what happens to the fans left behind after a member graduates is a recurring topic. The rules of thumb raised in this thread — that “fans drift to younger members but not older ones” or that “male fans tend to support the whole group while female fans tend to stan individuals” — are folk wisdom based purely on individual observation, not on any official statistics or survey, so they should be taken with a grain of salt. It’s also worth noting, as one poster pointed out about Kawamura — where an earlier “who will her fans switch to” thread predicted they “wouldn’t be able to leave the scene,” and that’s exactly what happened — that fans’ behavior after a graduation often continues far longer than they themselves expect. Nothing in the thread confirms Hashisako Rin’s own current activity status; this is all speculation based on how fans are processing the news.

  • 28 Officials Fall Ill with Food Poisoning at Kyoto Track Meet, Boxed Lunches Suspected

On September 12, during the All Japan Corporate Team Championships in athletics, held at Takebishi Stadium Kyoto in Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City, 28 event officials reported symptoms including diarrhea and vomiting and were taken to hospital. According to follow-up reports shared in the thread, 2 were in serious condition, 3 in moderate condition, and 23 in mild condition; athletes, coaches, and other team members who competed were not among those affected, since they had eaten boxed lunches they brought themselves. The thread focused on questions like why only the organizing staff ate heavy boxed lunches such as katsu-toji (pork cutlet simmered in egg), and how the food had been temperature-managed during storage, with posters trading various theories about the lunches’ contents and their relationship to the weather.

Komeo: "I want to raise hygiene awareness at every restaurant and food establishment"

Background and key points of this story

The All Japan Corporate Team Championships is a nationwide athletics event hosted by Japan’s corporate/industrial-league athletic federation, and athletes and coaches typically eat meals prepared by their own teams — likely why, in this case too, bringing their own boxed lunches kept them out of harm’s way. Those affected, meanwhile, were the staff supporting the event’s operations, and the boxed lunches provided to them are suspected as the cause. Opinion in the thread split between the view that “people have simply gotten weaker than they used to be” and the view that “this has always happened at some baseline rate — it’s just that testing and reporting have gotten better,” though both remain speculation. Whether food-poisoning cases are actually rising, or whether more cases are simply being caught, can’t be determined from this incident alone — that would require waiting on the health department’s findings on the causative agent and how the food was stored, a nuance easy to miss from the headline alone.

Content-wise, Okinawa's the most packed with material.

    Re: #90
    It's always been that way.

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

Parking lots attached to movie theaters in central Tokyo tend to have high base rates — even when the first 30 minutes are free, many charge a few hundred yen for every 10-15 minutes after that, so once you factor in the time spent moving to and from the theater and buying drinks, the total can easily run higher than expected. Commenters pointed out that she apparently didn’t know about the trick of getting free parking by spending a set amount at a department store, but plenty of others argued that parking rates in central Tokyo are simply absurd to begin with, so opinions were divided. It’s worth noting that the figure “entered at 9:05, exited at 11:38, 2 hours 3 minutes” comes from commenters’ own calculations — some pointed out the math seems off — and the exact total parking fee was never stated in the blog post itself.

  • Touch-Panel Ordering? Welcome. QR Codes and LINE Ordering? Not So Much — 5ch: “This Has No Sense of Boundaries”

Touch-panel ordering is spreading rapidly across restaurants in Japan, and opinions clashed over it on 5ch’s Breaking News+ board. According to the article, the system — in which customers order directly from a tabletop terminal that sends the order straight to the kitchen — has become common at izakayas and family restaurants in particular. On the thread, most posters welcomed the tabletop touch panels themselves, but there was persistent pushback against QR-code and LINE-based ordering that requires using one’s own smartphone, with complaints like “you walk in and immediately get pressured into adding the place as a LINE friend.” Opinions also split over hygiene, screen readability, and whether the systems are really just about cutting labor costs, exposing a gap between what works for restaurants and what actually feels convenient for customers.

    Published 9/13 (Sun) 10:00

    Yomiuri TV

Touch-panel ordering systems have been spreading rapidly through the restaurant industry lately. Adopted across a wide range of establishments, from izakayas to family restaurants, the system lets customers pick what they want to eat from a dedicated terminal at their table and send the order straight to the kitchen. While it offers the convenience of ordering without having to call over staff, it has also stirred up mixed reactions from the public.

If they want people to order on a touch panel, they should install a huge one — like 32 inches.
    69AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:35
    Re: #34
McDonald's touch panels are huge, but they don't fit in your field of view, so they're actually hard to read.
And depending on the location, other customers' lines or barriers get in the way, so you can't even step back from the panel.

    Re: #34
Places like Matsuya have screens that run tall too, and I've missed the d-points offer shown at the top several times without noticing.
I'm a woman, 160cm tall, and it's positioned somewhere I have to look up at.
    35AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:30
Aren't touch panels unsanitary though lol
What if some malicious terrorist smears germs on it?
    41AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:30
    Re: #35
Wouldn't that be just as true of a paper menu?
    36AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:30
It's not that I hate it, but when I go with a group, it's a little sad that you can't spread out a menu together and go "ooh that looks good, that looks good" the way you used to.
    52AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:32
    Re: #36
If the whole point for you is having a lively time with the group, I think you'll have fun no matter what the ordering system is.
    125AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:44
I mean, there's no way ordinary neighborhood places like izakayas and diners can afford to hire a bunch of clueless part-timers just to take orders like they did before COVID — not at today's minimum wage.
If you don't like it, go to a high-end restaurant instead.
You pre-yutori old farts (i.e., the generation older than the "yutori" kids raised under Japan's relaxed-education policy) should own up to the fact that you burned through the good times like idiots.

    Re: #125
    Seriously, exactly that.
Led by the people who were in their 30s-40s at the peak of the bubble economy, they're eating up young people's futures lol

    Re: #125
Ah, it's that whole labor-cost-vs-capital-investment tradeoff thing.
Like Hidakaya bringing in touch panels plus serving robots — if that ends up more cost-effective than hiring one more person, I think that's fine.
If my workplace doesn't have the money to hire people either, I wish they'd at least install a speaker system or PA announcements to call people over.
    149AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:48
If you think touch panels are dirty, well, paper menus and tables are dirty too, so you might as well just give up eating out.
    173AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:51
    Re: #149
Even when the table's been wiped down, you still run into touch panels that are sticky here and there.
    226AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:56
    Re: #149
    True enough.
You can wipe down a touch panel, but I've never once seen anyone clean a paper menu lol
    181AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:52
I've never actually been to a restaurant where you're required to order using your own phone.

It'd be embarrassing if it weren't an iPhone.
With Android you've got the staff and other customers watching.

    Re: #195
Never thought about that, but I guess some people do worry about it.
    Sounds like a fragile mindset.

    Re: #195
Oh really, so an old iPhone with a cracked screen is fine then?
    201AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:54
The anti-QR crowd seems more worried about the hassle than any security risk, but is it really that much of a bother? You just open the camera.

Probably worried about their data plan lol

    Re: #201
It's a pain to stare at your phone screen and order when you're drunk.
Then again, thanks to that I end up skipping one more dish or one more drink, so it's good for my wallet lol
    205AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:55
    Re: #196
And my own phone's been in the bathroom with me, so it's dirty anyway.
    219AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:56
    Re: #205
And some places don't even have Wi-Fi — total disrespect.
    234AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:57
    Re: #219
It doesn't actually use as much data as you'd think, so I say don't sweat it.
If you're worrying about that stuff while eating out, you're not going to be popular with women.
    242AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:58
    Re: #234
Rough if you've already hit your data cap though.
    266AnonymousSep 13, 2026 18:01
    Re: #234
    Huh?
So the tap-tap crowd (people glued to their phones) tries to one-up people over something like that? lol
    What a lightweight.

    Re: #181
    It's common at izakayas.

Some places have even switched from tablets to QR codes.

    Re: #212
Ah, so it's common at izakayas. I haven't been to one in about 10 years, so no wonder I didn't know.
    235AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:57
    Re: #212
There's a place that switched back from QR codes to staff taking orders.

Apparently once customers got drunk, entering QR codes became too much of a hassle and sales dropped — turns out a staff member asking "another round?" really does matter.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

The spread of touch-panel ordering is rooted in the reality restaurants now face: with the minimum wage rising and labor shortages worsening, they can no longer staff as many floor workers as before. As the thread notes, some chains, like Hidakaya, pair reduced staffing with serving robots, while others, like Matsuya, run into practical issues — such as shorter customers struggling to see items displayed near the top of the touch panel. The main point of contention splits roughly along these lines: tabletop touch panels tend to be readily accepted, while QR-code and LINE-based ordering that requires customers to use their own phones draws strong psychological and practical resistance — complaints about being pressured into adding a LINE friend, or worries over data usage — leaving opinion divided. There’s also pushback against the claim that touch panels are unsanitary, with some arguing paper menus are actually cleaned far less often, revealing a gap between the perception and the reality of hygiene. And as with the example of a restaurant that switched back from QR-code ordering to staff taking orders, changes in ordering method can affect average spend per customer, making this more than just a matter of personal preference — it ties into real business decisions.
