The story
Kentaro Fujii, the director behind TBS’s “Downtown Wednesday,” updated X by September 13, 2026 with a photo that happened to include a shooting schedule sheet. The sheet listed a broadcast slot for “Wednesday, January 27, 2027, 22:00–22:57,” and 5ch users who spotted it began speculating that it points to a new installment of the popular segment “Detective Tsuda.” The thread saw a wave of comments arguing the segment has grown stale and bloated in scale in recent years and that it’s time to end it, while others pushed back in its defense, leaving opinion split.

Kentaro Fujii, the network’s well-known staffer who directs the TBS variety show “Downtown Wednesday” (10:00 PM slot), updated X by the 13th. His post, offering a glimpse of a shoot date, has become a talking point.
Fujii wrote, “A shoot far enough out that even a demon would clap and laugh” (a twist on the Japanese saying that talking about the distant future makes even a demon laugh), and shared a photo in which the shoot date was legible. The printed shoot schedule sheet read “September 12 (Saturday), TBS.” It further noted “Wednesday, January 27, 2027, 22:00–22:57.”

What people said
And M!LK too, maybe? TBS is really good at turning talent into stars.
Used to be Fuji TV back in the day (´・ω・`)
That's just Yoshimoto (their talent agency) pushing hard to make them famous.
Otherwise they'd be stuck as Kansai-local comedians — that hard push is baffling.
They probably can't pull off a small-scale version anymore.
They could just mix it up with different "XX arcs" instead — why does the scale keep inflating?
Yeah yeah, it's giving off way too much of a "oh, this again" vibe.
Mom showing up was part 3, and the DeLorean one was part 4?
They try so hard to leave their mark with lame quips that it just gets in the way of the main segment.
This probably wouldn't happen if Matsumoto were still around.
Ever since Matsumoto left, the little reaction-cam inset during the VTR clips has gotten really annoying.
For me it's Seiya and Hikorohee who are the annoying ones.
Matsumoto's reaction cuts weren't funny either, but what really got on my nerves was the presenter-teasing before the VTR and those "I noticed that too" comments about irrelevant little details afterward.
Background and key points of this topic
“Detective Tsuda” is a popular Downtown Wednesday segment that has aired multiple times, putting talent Atsuhiro Tsuda into ambush-style situations to capture his reactions. Director Kentaro Fujii has repeatedly teased shoot dates and props on X to stir viewer speculation, and this latest post showing the “January 27, 2027” date is seen as more of the same. What split the thread was whether the segment itself is still worth doing: some argued the ever-inflating scale means a smaller-format version can no longer work and that it’s time to wrap things up after five installments, while others pushed back, essentially saying “just don’t watch it if you don’t like it.” Several commenters also noted that the atmosphere of the studio reaction shots has changed since headliner Hitoshi Matsumoto stopped appearing. Note that both the air date and the segment’s content remain speculation based on the leaked photo — there has been no official announcement from TBS or Fujii himself.
