The story

Film director Hideo Sakaki (56), who stood trial for the quasi-rape of two actresses in 2015 and 2016, has had his appeal rejected by the Second Petty Bench of the Supreme Court in a ruling dated November 4. This finalizes the 8-year prison sentence handed down by the Tokyo District Court (first trial) and upheld by the Tokyo High Court (second trial). According to the first- and second-trial rulings, Sakaki is said to have committed the sexual assaults under the guise of “acting coaching.” On 5ch’s Geinou/Sports News+ board, the main point of discussion was the differing treatment of director Sion Sono, who faces similar allegations of sexual misconduct but has never been indicted — threads noted that charges couldn’t be filed in his case because the victim had since died.

Regarding film director Hideo Sakaki (56), who was charged with quasi-rape for sexually assaulting two actresses, the Second Petty Bench of the Supreme Court (Presiding Judge Kazumi Okamura) rejected the defendant’s appeal in a ruling dated the 4th. This finalizes the 8-year prison sentence handed down by the Tokyo District Court in the first trial and the Tokyo High Court in the second.

According to the first- and second-trial rulings, in 2015 at an office in Minato Ward, Sakaki sexually assaulted a woman who had been informally cast in a film he was directing, after misleading her into believing it was acting instruction. In 2016, he pressured another woman with lines like “I might be able to help you get into the project,” and went on to repeatedly sexually assault her at a hotel and other locations in Shibuya Ward.

Was it November?

Why does this guy get convicted while Sion Sono walks free?

Re: #5
Because the victim died by suicide.

Re: #5-6
Also, his buddy Houka Kinoshita had around 6 known victims too, as far as anyone can tell.
But because years had passed since the abuse, or for reasons like below, they had no choice but to swallow it and stay silent… these guys are truly scum.

Crazy how just having kept video evidence or not ends up deciding your entire fate like this.

Guess that means about 3 episodes of Aibou are getting shelved now.

Can't they just swap Sakaki's scenes out with AI or something?

The Supreme Court rejected the defendant's appeal. The 8-year sentence from the Tokyo District Court (1st trial) and Tokyo High Court (2nd trial) is now final.

Just lock this freak up already.

A disgrace to every actor who's ever appeared in a Sentai show.
Life in prison would've been fitting, honestly.

Sexually assaulting actresses like that — guys like him don't deserve to call themselves men.

So "acting direction" meant raping her while the cameras rolled?
Cold-blooded, lol.
26AnonymousNov 6, 2026 16:55
8 years, lol.
Even once he's out, there's no way he's getting film work again.
Serves him right.

Re: #26
The film industry is exactly the kind of place where that's still possible, though.

"You're disqualified!" Somebody needs to say that to his face.

Celebrities love to lecture society all high and mighty, but they go dead silent the moment it's sex crimes within their own industry.
They act so cool saying "nothing changes unless you speak up," but
from the Johnny Kitagawa scandal to TV stations pimping out talent for entertainment, they ignore every single one of these.
In the end, they're people who can't say a word once their own interests are on the line.

Someone should get Sion Sono — the guy behind "Cold Fish" — to turn this true story into a movie!

Re: #40
That guy actually acted it out himself, so he'd know.
42AnonymousNov 6, 2026 17:28
I think the difference between Sono and Sakaki just comes down to whether what they did actually paid off for them or not.
47AnonymousNov 6, 2026 17:48
He's already had detention time counted toward it, so even serving the full term it's only 5.5 years.
50AnonymousNov 6, 2026 17:52
If only Sono's victim hadn't taken her own life too…

According to a Tokyo Sports article:
https://www.tokyo-sports.co.jp/articles/-/320432?page=1
He was arrested four times in total, and the SD cards seized in the police search reportedly contained video and audio recordings of the acts.
According to the "Kuutsuu" case (a mocking 5ch nickname), even when a victim filed a report, the incident was from several years earlier and wasn't on the seized SD card,
so in cases like that one, where the abuse couldn't be confirmed, no charges could be filed.

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

The charge against Sakaki was “quasi-rape,” the legal term at the time of the offense; under the 2017 Penal Code revision it would correspond to “forced sexual intercourse,” and under the 2023 revision, to “non-consensual sexual intercourse.” An 8-year sentence is a fairly standard figure given the recent trend toward harsher penalties for sex crimes — it isn’t an especially severe one. The thread’s main point of comparison was director Sion Sono’s case, where similar allegations of sexual misconduct exist but no indictment has followed; however, this gap isn’t really about unequal sentencing so much as differences in what could be proven — things like the victim’s death and whether physical evidence (video and audio data) existed. Reading the difference in outcomes as simple unfairness risks missing that nuance. In the film and theater industry, sexual abuse by those holding “casting power” over actors has repeatedly become an issue, and this case — where the perpetrator reportedly used the guise of “acting instruction” — reflects that same underlying structure.
