  • Godzilla-0.0 Nears Release Amid Rumors Hideaki Anno Has Secretly Begun Shin Godzilla 2

While the trailer for the November release Godzilla-0.0 has started airing, an article caused a stir by reporting that a film industry insider revealed a sequel to Hideaki Anno’s Shin Godzilla is secretly moving forward behind the scenes. It’s also been reported that the new cast may include an actress who overlaps with the previous film. On 5ch’s Entertainment & Sports News+ thread, discussion moved past the rumor itself and into a debate over which style is better — Shin Godzilla or Takashi Yamazaki’s Godzilla-1.0 — with opinions split over differences in domestic versus overseas reception and personal taste regarding Anno’s distinctive script and direction.

“We hadn’t finished burying Godzilla after all–“

Amid land buried in rubble, Hidetaka Yoshioka murmurs this line. It’s the opening scene of the trailer for the movie Godzilla-0.0, set for release in November. Yoshioka returns, continuing his role from the previous film, Godzilla-1.0. In ‘-1.0,’ Ryunosuke Kamiki, playing a former kamikaze pilot, and others confronted the threat of a Godzilla rendered with spectacular VFX. Now, with the sequel’s release approaching and anticipation steadily building, it turns out there’s actually another “Godzilla movie” quietly in progress behind the scenes. A film industry insider reveals the details.

But Shin Godzilla and "Minus Godzilla" (Godzilla-1.0) were made by the same VFX studio in the end — Shirogumi.
They're both Shirogumi movies, so they're basically the same.

Last time it just happened to come together well.
This time it's probably going to be absolute garbage 😗
    7AnonymousOct 7, 2026 14:49
Yamazaki's Godzilla feels too Western (lit. "buttery"/foreign-flavored).
    That's not the Godzilla aesthetic.
Anno really gets it, though — his is a proper Japanese Godzilla.
They're not that far apart in age, but a 2-year gap might actually matter more than you'd think.
Things moved fast back then, so two years made a real difference.
    8AnonymousOct 7, 2026 14:50
    Actually it's a 4-year gap, not 2. That's a pretty big difference.

    12AnonymousOct 7, 2026 14:57
    Shin Godzilla was absolute garbage.
A toy train hits its leg, it faints, and they pump drugs into its mouth while it's out to win — that might be the worst Godzilla movie in franchise history.
Minus One, made as basically the polar opposite of that, was good though.

For me it was funny like those old Drifters or Hyokin-zoku comedy sketches where someone has to keep chugging milk for a commercial shoot until they're like "I caaaan't drink any moooore!" — Godzilla looked exactly like that.
The train crashing into it was so dumb too, and it played well against how self-serious all the meeting scenes were.
With Minus One, Godzilla somehow felt like it was just background scenery.
    13AnonymousOct 7, 2026 14:57

    19AnonymousOct 7, 2026 15:03
Hollywood's Godzilla — meaning Westerners in general, same as in painting —
thinks in three dimensions. That's why it ends up looking like some oversized reptile. Yamazaki's Godzilla is the Hollywood type.
He's thinking about it too realistically. That's also the difference between Disney animation and Japanese anime.
Japan has expressed things in two dimensions ever since the days of ukiyo-e woodblock prints.
Godzilla isn't a drawing, but it's something closer to a deity than a giant reptile.
In the original Mothra vs. Godzilla, Godzilla slowly wading in from the sea, seen from a distance — that's the true aesthetic of Godzilla.

There was a movie called "The Great Monster Clean-Up," but it seems to have gotten a pretty bad reputation.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

“Shin Godzilla” (2016) was highly praised domestically, but is said to have struggled at the overseas box office due to its meeting-centered style of storytelling. “Godzilla-1.0” (2023), on the other hand, earned high acclaim both at home and abroad under director Takashi Yamazaki, and won the Academy Award for Visual Effects in 2024. Against this backdrop of differing track records, opinions in the thread were split over whether Hideaki Anno’s style (two-dimensional, emphasizing stylized aesthetics) or Takashi Yamazaki’s style (three-dimensional, emphasizing realistic depiction) better fits the image of Godzilla. It should also be noted that the “Shin Godzilla 2” rumor itself comes only from remarks attributed to a film industry insider — it is not a confirmed production or an official announcement. As for the “overlapping actress” casting detail, no specific name is given in the original text, so it should be read as speculation rather than confirmed fact.

*This article has been excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Entertainment & Sports News+) thread “Rumor: Hideaki Anno’s “Shin Godzilla 2” Secretly Underway Behind the Scenes as “Godzilla-0.0” Nears Release — New Cast Features an Unusual “Overlapping Actress”” and reconstructed for this piece.

  • Tetsuya Takeda-Led ‘Mito Kōmon’ Special Set for December — 5ch: ‘No Lord Mito Has Topped Hideo Tōno Yet’

On October 7, BS-TBS announced that it will air “Mito Kōmon Special: Okazaki & Owari” in December. The main cast — Tetsuya Takeda as Lord Mito Mitsukuni, along with Takuma Zaiki, Atsushi Arai, Mariko Shinoda, Kanji Tsuda, and Yoshihiko Hakamada — returns unchanged from last year’s installment for a two-hour special. On 5ch’s Geinou/Sports News+ thread, many posters reminisced about past actors who played the title role, with opinions split between those calling Hideo Tōno or Kōtarō Satomi “the last true Lord Mito” and others saying they’d give the Takeda version a chance. Plenty of lighthearted comments also looked forward to the iconic “inro reveal” scene and the series’ other trademark beats, reflecting just how much affection fans still have for the long-running franchise.

On the 7th, BS-TBS announced that it will air “Mito Kōmon Special: Okazaki & Owari” in December.

Following last year, a new “Mito Kōmon” installment will air as a two-hour special. Tetsuya Takeda plays Mito Mitsukuni. The loyal attendants supporting the retired lord return as well, with Takuma Zaiki as Sasaki Sukesaburō and Atsushi Arai as Shitsumi Kakunoshin. Mariko Shinoda (as Shino) and Kanji Tsuda (as Kazaguruma no Yashichi) round out the cast as the undercover duo. Yoshihiko Hakamada also returns as Yoshiyasu Yanagisawa, close aide to Shogun Tsunayoshi. As with the previous installment, numerous guest stars are also planned.

Though it's basically been erased from history…
Before the "National Theater" Mito Kōmon, there was a "Brother Theater" Mito Kōmon

Background and Key Points on This Topic

“Mito Kōmon” began airing on the TBS network in 1969, and after its regular broadcast run ended in 2011, BS-TBS has kept it alive through one-off specials. The role of Lord Mito has passed from Hideo Tōno to Akira Nishimura, Asao Sano, Kōji Ishizaka, and Kōtarō Satomi, with Tetsuya Takeda now taking the role for a second time following last year’s special. The thread’s central disagreement boiled down to whether to accept Takeda’s version as a legitimate Lord Mito, pitting those who hold the Tōno era as the gold standard against those willing to embrace it as a fresh take. It’s worth noting that there’s no historical record of the real Mitsukuni actually traveling the country righting wrongs after retirement — that’s purely a dramatic invention. While he was known for rough behavior in his youth, his rule as domain lord and his involvement in compiling the “Dai Nihon-shi” history are documented facts, so the thread’s claim that he “wasn’t a great lord” should be taken as only a partial view.

  • Actress Kato Rosa: ‘I Gained Over 20kg During My Pregnancy in France’ — 5ch Reacts: ‘Putting on 20kg Is Just About Right’

Actress Kato Rosa (41) looked back on 14 years of raising her children in France on TV Asahi’s “After My Husband Falls Asleep,” confessing that she gained over 20kg during pregnancy and that “just living through it was tough.” Kato married former Japan national team soccer player Daisuke Matsui in 2011 and announced their divorce last summer. On 5ch, reactions ranged from the weight-gain figure itself, to differences between France and Japan in childbirth costs and hospital stay lengths, to debate over whether Kato and Matsui’s marriage was ever really “well-matched” to begin with — opinions were split.

TV Asahi’s “mom-focused variety show” After My Husband Falls Asleep (Tuesdays, 12:15am), hosted by talent Miki Fujimoto and comedian Natsuko Yokozawa, aired late on the 6th. Actress Kato Rosa (41) looked back on 14 years of raising her children.

She married former Japan national team player Daisuke Matsui in 2011 at age 26 (it was revealed last summer that they had divorced). She is now the mother of two sons — a 14-year-old in 9th grade and a 12-year-old in 7th grade. She described her older son as “the quiet type, who likes manga and anime and doing things on his own,” and her younger son as “outgoing, loves soccer, and has a bit of a foul mouth.”

    77AnonymousOct 7, 2026 17:24
Re: #69 Where'd you get ¥1 million from? The national average cost is ¥520,000, and you get a ¥500,000 lump-sum benefit, so you actually only end up paying about ¥20,000.
    79AnonymousOct 7, 2026 17:24
In countries other than Japan, it seems like you get discharged half a day or a day after giving birth. Which basically means there's no time to even eat that celebratory meal. That's apparently why childbirth is fully free in a lot of countries. Maybe Japan could make it fully free too if it skipped the long hospital stay. Pregnant women in Japan stay in the hospital for about a week, right?
    88AnonymousOct 7, 2026 17:33
Re: #79 I've given birth in both Japan and America, and honestly staying in the hospital for about a week is better for your body's recovery. These days even in Japan, a normal delivery means about 4-5 days of hospital stay.

This latest confession stems from her looking back on those years on “After My Husband Falls Asleep,” and the concrete figure of gaining over 20kg during pregnancy became the spark for discussion. The thread split mainly into two camps. One was over whether that weight gain was reasonable — medically, the recommended gain from pre-pregnancy weight is around 10-13kg, making over 20kg higher than average. The other was a Japan-France comparison of childbirth costs and hospital stay length: in France, childbirth is nearly free but the hospital stay is short at 2-3 days, whereas in Japan the stay runs around 4-5 days with some costs still falling on the patient. Neither the thread nor news reports have revealed the actual reason for the divorce or Matsui’s side of things, so it’s worth noting that most of the comments remain speculation.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Aimer’s post didn’t name anyone specifically, and she’s offered no explanation of who “comrades” refers to. On the thread, names like milet (tied to the same label/agency circles) and radio personality Misato Ugaki came up, but these remain nothing more than speculation from 5channel users — Aimer herself never confirmed any of it. This kind of abstract wording tends to get read deeply into by fans, who connect it to past lyrics or statements, and this thread saw several candidate names thrown around based on the word “hell.” Readers should note that the names mentioned are purely outside guesswork — Aimer never named anyone herself. Since her 2011 debut, Aimer has been widely featured on anime theme songs, and this kind of cryptic messaging is consistent with her past style.

  • DeNA’s CS Starters Set: Azuma, Ishida Yu — 5ch: ‘The First Punch Is Everything’

DeNA announced their starting pitchers for the Climax Series First Stage: Katsuki Azuma for Game 1 and Yu Ishida for Game 2. The Giants fielded a youth-heavy lineup in a practice game against Saginomiya Seisakusho, while the Lotte Marines told three players, including Riku Kikuchi, they won’t be retained. It was also reported that Samurai Japan’s roster included zero players from the Hanshin Tigers, despite their back-to-back Central League pennant. On the forum, opinion split between those arguing ‘whoever scores first in Game 1 decides everything’ in this short series, and those pushing back with examples of teams blowing a lead late in the season finale.

Plenty of people thought we had it won after Richard's go-ahead homer

Background and Key Points of This Topic

The Climax Series (CS) First Stage is a short series between the teams that finished 2nd and 3rd in the Central and Pacific Leagues, in which the higher-seeded team starts with a one-win advantage. That’s why some on the forum argue that ‘whoever scores first in Game 1 decides the outcome,’ but in reality, short series are especially prone to reversals triggered by a single bad pitch or a bullpen slip-up, and it’s not unusual for results to diverge from the regular-season standings. As for the Samurai Japan selections, people often misunderstand that the roster isn’t based solely on in-season stats — it also depends on coordination with the host organization and each team, as well as player fatigue, which is why even a back-to-back pennant-winning team can end up with no players picked. Manager Iguchi’s explanation likewise emphasized consideration for the players over the transparency of the selection criteria, reflecting the reality that selection isn’t purely performance-based.

I have a feeling it's about to connect, though.

Context and Key Points of This Topic

Sompo Japan announced that an unauthorized access to an external vendor may have leaked roughly 60,000 customer records — notably, the breach occurred through a vendor’s system rather than the company’s own. The thread noted that on the same day, leaks were also reported at HIS and at Scala Communications, a vendor used for dash-cam services, pointing to a pattern of vendor-related breaches hitting multiple companies at once. Worth noting: the HIS case originated at its Thai subsidiary, and both the source of the announcement and the underlying cause differ from the Sompo Japan incident — treating them as the same story would be misleading. Opinions in the thread split over whether there’s any way to protect your own information, with many pessimistic voices arguing that avoiding service sign-ups is the only real defense. Concerns about the security of the My Number card also came up repeatedly, but this incident has no direct connection to the My Number system — worth keeping in mind, since the two topics get conflated easily.

*This article is compiled from excerpts and a summary of the 5ch (News Flash+) thread “[Breaking] Sompo Japan — Possible Leak of 60,000 Customer Records.”

  • Pedestrians Step Aside for Bell-Blasting ‘Mamachari’ Bikes on the Sidewalk — 5ch: ‘Pedestrians Have Right of Way’

A scene of cyclists repeatedly ringing their bells to intimidate pedestrians on the sidewalk — described as “an unbelievable everyday occurrence” — sparked a wave of reactions on 5ch’s News Express+ board. The thread kicked off from the observation that even as a legal reform introducing “blue tickets” (official traffic citations) for cyclists made headlines, sidewalk conflicts between bikes and pedestrians haven’t changed, with pedestrians still the ones forced to step aside. Commenters split between those citing the legal principle that “pedestrians have top priority on sidewalks” and those making a more practical etiquette argument — that “pedestrians should walk along the edge too” — disagreeing over who bears the greater responsibility. Many also pointed to the lack of dedicated bike lanes as the root cause.

“The one actually breaking the law here is the bike!” Sick and tired of mamachari (Japan’s ubiquitous city bikes) blasting their bells to intimidate pedestrians on the sidewalk. Law change? Doesn’t matter! Pedestrians left stepping aside in “an unbelievable everyday occurrence”

No — pedestrians have absolute priority on the sidewalk, so if a pedestrian is blocking the way, it's the cyclist's duty to slow down or steer around them.
Under the Road Traffic Act, nothing outranks a pedestrian on a sidewalk.

Pedestrians should just walk at the edge from the start.
Stick to the side so you're ready whenever a bike comes up behind you.
    That's just common sense.
Why can't people plan for something that obvious?
Walking at the edge of the sidewalk costs you absolutely nothing.

    >Sidewalk riding is only permitted in unavoidable cases, such as avoiding danger

But sidewalks exist precisely in places dangerous enough to need separating pedestrians from vehicles — and in those same spots, cyclists face danger from cars too. So cyclists can always use the sidewalk there, the police can't enforce otherwise and openly admit they won't, meaning this 'blue ticket' law change is irrelevant to any of this.
    23AnonymousOct 7, 2026 15:16

    Re: #245
For some reason that made me think of pigeons in a park.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

The introduction of “blue tickets” (traffic citations) for cyclists is a legal reform aimed at cracking down on dangerous violations like running red lights and riding against traffic — it does not ban sidewalk riding itself. Under the Road Traffic Act, sidewalk riding is prohibited in principle, but exceptions apply when “safe road conditions can’t be ensured” or other unavoidable circumstances exist. As comment #56 in the thread points out, this latest law change has nothing to do with whether sidewalk riding is allowed. The principle that pedestrians have top priority on sidewalks also hasn’t changed, and it’s legally clear that cyclists bear the duty to slow down or steer around pedestrians. Where opinions diverged was on the practical etiquette question of whether pedestrians should also keep to the edge of the sidewalk — with legal arguments and etiquette arguments getting tangled together, the thread never reached a consensus on who’s really to blame. The slow pace of dedicated bike-lane construction, repeatedly cited as the underlying cause of sidewalk conflicts, was a recurring theme throughout.

  • Prosecutors Seek 12-Year Sentence for Machete Attack on N-Party’s Takashi Tachibana — 5ch: ‘LOL, 12 Years for an Attempt?’

In Kasumigaseki, Tokyo, in March 2025, defendant Shion Miyanishi (32) stood trial before a lay-judge panel on charges including attempted murder for slashing Takashi Tachibana (59) of the “Party to Protect the People from NHK” with a nata (a machete-like blade). On October 7, prosecutors sought a 12-year prison sentence. The defendant is a former supporter of Tachibana, and her motive is said to be regret over having voted for him. Reactions on the thread split between shock at how harsh the sentence was for an attempted crime, and others who argued that since a politician was the target, a severe punishment was only to be expected.

    If anything, this is light
    55AnonymousOct 7, 2026 15:35
Well, if the blade had landed just a few centimeters off, it probably would've hit his brain
What she did was basically murder

Background and Key Points of This Story

Attempted murder is punished in line with completed murder, and the statutory minimum sentence already starts around 5 years, making it inherently severe. Looking only at the fact that this 12-year sentence demand followed a minor injury, it can look excessive — but sentencing also weighs factors beyond the outcome, like premeditation and whether the target held social standing. That’s exactly where opinions split in the thread: some argued “it’s way too harsh for just a scratch,” while others countered that since a politician was targeted during a campaign speech, a severe sentence is only natural as an attack on democracy itself. Many posts also compared this case to the sentencing in past attacks on politicians, such as the shooting of former PM Shinzo Abe and the assassination of the mayor of Nagasaki, speculating that these precedents may have shaped the prosecution’s request. At the same time, the defendant’s motive and background are based solely on trial testimony as reported, so readers should treat these details with some caution rather than as settled fact.

  • Ado’s Vocal Skills Spark Fierce Debate: ‘She’s Good, Just Not My Taste’ vs. ‘Don’t Call Her Bad’

It started with questions raised over Ado’s performance at the K-pop event “INKIGAYO in TOKYO,” held September 22-23 at Belluna Dome, where she closed the show singing “Odoru Ponpokorin” (a classic kids’ anime theme song) — and over the fact that binoculars were banned only during her set, plus her no-show at the finale. That incident sparked a broader debate on 5ch over whether Ado is actually a skilled singer at all. Supporters insisted her pitch and rhythm are flawless, while skeptics countered that she’s “just screaming” and “riding the strength of her songs” — with many arguing that personal taste and technical skill should be judged separately.

    October 6, 2026, 3:53 PM

Is Ado’s singing really that amazing, or is it overrated? An online debate is raging right now.

It all started with controversy at a K-pop event. When Ado closed out the September 23 show at “INKIGAYO in TOKYO,” held September 22-23 at Belluna Dome, by singing “Odoru Ponpokorin,” complaints poured in that the song choice “didn’t fit the event’s concept.” On top of that, fans voiced frustration that binoculars were banned only during Ado’s segment, and that she skipped the finale — a staple of K-pop events.

Generally speaking, Dreams Come True's Miwa Yoshida is treated as a skilled singer, but getting through one whole Dreams Come True album leaves you feeling kind of sick to your stomach, or just worn out. Same goes for MISIA

Does "gets tiring after a whole album" really count as a measure of skill? Even with art or manga, sometimes stuff is so technically impressive that looking at a ton of it in a row is exhausting too

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Ado debuted without revealing her face and built her fame on the hit “Usseewa” and success on overseas charts. This particular debate was sparked by her appearance at the K-pop event “INKIGAYO in TOKYO,” held September 22-23 at Belluna Dome. News that she closed the show singing “Odoru Ponpokorin,” along with fan complaints over the binocular ban and her absence from the finale, snowballed into a deeper argument over whether she’s actually a skilled singer at all. The thread split over whether technical merit (pitch, vocal technique) should be judged separately from personal taste (voice type, song preference), with plenty of middle-ground takes like “she’s skilled but tiring to listen to” or “she’s popular because of the songs, not her voice.” Because she performs without showing her face, suspicions about pitch correction keep resurfacing — but it’s worth noting this remains pure speculation, not something confirmed by Ado or her management.

  • Samurai Japan Unveils New Uniform — “SJ”-Embroidered Cap Also Revealed

New Balance Japan announced on October 7 that it has signed a Diamond Partner agreement with NPB Enterprise, which operates the Samurai Japan national baseball team, and unveiled the new uniform and “SJ”-embroidered cap for the “Laqzus Asia Professional Baseball Championship 2026,” set to kick off on November 12. On 5ch threads, confusion spread over whether the visual of players standing in overgrown grass was meant as a Field of Dreams homage or just looked like guys fetching stray balls at a riverside ballpark, with doubts also raised about the striped design and the apparently AI-generated promotional images. Meanwhile, the discussion branched out in multiple directions, including comparisons with the Japan national soccer team’s uniform and the origins of the “Samurai Japan” nickname.

Baseball should just be played out on a riverbank like in this photo.
    The uniform suits you, though.

It's probably a Field of Dreams homage, but it just looks like a boy doing farm work sometime during the war.

Why make it look like a 'tokuryu' crew popping out of the bushes? (tokuryu = the loosely organized anonymous crime rings that have been in Japanese news lately)

    Six guys, lol.
At least make it seven to match 'Seven Samurai,' or nine for a baseball lineup — put a little more thought into it, lol.

Even the baseball otaku ('yakibuta,' a mocking term for diehard baseball fanboys) are calling it bad, lol

In Japan and Korea it's called 'yakyu,' but the imagery actually fits that name. Personally I think the Chinese term 'bàngqiú' (literally 'stick-ball') suits it even better.

Feels like plenty of other sports have updated their look over the years, but baseball's stuck with that same Showa-era fit forever.

The background looks like it's around here.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

The new uniform is for the “Asia Professional Baseball Championship 2026,” which opens in November, and the tournament’s title sponsor is Laqzus, a used-car dealership. As for the “Samurai Japan” nickname discussed in the thread, some pointed out that it was originally used by a different sport’s national team first — background that may need spelling out for readers unfamiliar with the history. No official explanation has been given for the creative intent behind this grass-backdrop visual, so the thread’s back-and-forth over whether it evokes “Field of Dreams” or just a riverside ballpark remains speculation rather than confirmed fact. Because this topic easily blurred the line between legitimate design criticism and mockery aimed at the designers or the models wearing the uniform, comments making blanket claims about nationality or insulting anyone’s appearance were excluded from this writeup.
