  • Short Sleeper Daisuke Hori, Who Claims Just 30 Minutes of Sleep a Day for 17 Years, Caught Sleeping Soundly for 29 Minutes During a Massage

Daisuke Hori, who built his popular YouTube channel on the claim that he’s slept only 30 minutes a day for 17 years, is making waves on 5channel after he snored and fell into a deep sleep during a collaboration stream with a massage therapist — taking roughly 29 minutes to wake up. Viewers also noticed that the stream was paused while he was asleep, and that the camera angle and screen layout had changed once it resumed. Opinions in the thread were split over whether this really counts as “sleep,” with some suspecting he hid an inconvenient moment, as debate raged over how credible his explanation really was.

    Background and Talking Points

Daisuke Hori built a YouTube following racking up millions of views on videos centered around his claim of sleeping only 30 minutes a day for 17 years, and this massage-therapist collaboration was part of that same ongoing demonstration series. Medically, there are documented cases of “short sleepers” who stay healthy on very little sleep, but most such reports lack backing from research institutions using tools like EEG monitoring and rest on self-reporting alone. The sticking point in the thread was that Hori has previously offered his own idiosyncratic standards for what counts — claiming that snoring he was “aware of” doesn’t count, or that passing out is “safe” — leaving viewers deeply skeptical of the very definition of “sleep” he’s using. The fact that the stream was paused while he dozed off, and that the camera position and screen layout had changed by the time it resumed, has only fueled suspicions of staging or editing.

  • Daisuke Hori Claims His 30-Minute Nap During a Livestream Was Just a “Microsleep”

Daisuke Hori, known as a “short sleeper” who claims to sleep only 30 minutes a day, snored his way through roughly 30 minutes of sleep during a collaboration livestream with a masseur. He insisted it was a “microsleep” rather than actual sleep, but 5ch users split into two camps — critics saying “Is this the excuse Olympics?” and “Just admit you fell asleep,” versus defenders saying “It’s entertaining to watch” and “Pulling in this many viewers is a talent in itself.”

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Daisuke Hori is known as a “short sleeper” who claims to sleep just 30 minutes a day, and he reportedly runs courses teaching others the same sleep method. According to the thread, he previously made headlines for allegedly losing his entire fortune in FX trading, and suspicions arose that he actually sleeps far longer than he claims — prompting him to keep livestreaming to prove otherwise. This time, the stream caught him dozing off on camera, and his attempt to wave it away as a “microsleep” sparked debate. Commenters were split between those who find it purely entertaining and those who argue that, since he profits from his courses, his honesty should be held to a higher standard — making this more than just a joke at his expense.

  • PTA Disbanded, So Field Trips and Sports Days Get Cancelled — 5ch: ‘You Need Lookouts, No Question’

A post on 5ch’s “Anything Goes Live” board sparked discussion after claiming that schools which disbanded their PTA saw field trips and sports days cancelled one after another. Commenters pointed out that PTA membership dues had funded things like tent setup for sports day and adult supervision on field trips, so once the PTA was gone, both the budget and the manpower disappeared, making the events impossible to keep running. Others argued that school events should be run by teachers alone, or that schools could simply switch to paying outside contractors. Opinion split between resentment over unpaid labor and acceptance of scaled-back events.

    Background and Key Issues

The PTA is technically a voluntary association for parents and teachers, but in practice most schools treat participation as mandatory for everyone. In recent years, a growing number of schools have moved to disband it or make membership optional, citing the heavy burden involved. The thread’s central issue was that PTA dues — kept separate from the school budget — had been funding things like tent setup for sports day and supervisory staff for field trips; once the PTA was disbanded, both that funding and that manpower vanished at the same time. Some argued the school could simply pay outside staff using its own budget, but no one worked out where that money would actually come from. Whether this scaling-back of events is a nationwide trend or just varies school by school isn’t something this thread’s discussion alone can settle.

  • Romancing SaGa 3 Remake Sparks Reactions — 5ch: ‘All I Remember About Minstrel Song Is the Yamazaki Masayoshi Opening’

The announcement of a remake for “Romancing SaGa 3” got longtime series fans fired up on a 5ch (Livedoor VIP) thread. Topics included the strong reputation of the previously released “Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven,” and reports that the producer had shown enthusiasm for remaking 3 and 4 as well after 2’s remake launched. On the other hand, opinions on the character graphics were split — some said “the flat, same-looking faces bug me,” others felt “Harid’s design lacks any edge” — and fans traded views on the remake business model itself.

    Re: #12
It's a systems-heavy game, so it depends if that's your thing
That said, Minstrel Song (the Romancing SaGa 1 remake) is probably too complex a system for a SaGa newcomer, and while the latest one, SaGa Emerald Beyond, has genuinely fun battles, it's too battle-focused as a whole game. So the Romancing SaGa 2 remake still feels like the perfect entry point into SaGa.

    Background and Talking Points

Two main talking points emerged from this thread. The first was the merits of remakes themselves: comments like “how long do they plan on making us play old games?” drew pushback like “you don’t have to buy it if you don’t want to” and “then don’t play it” — a back-and-forth that laid bare the split over the remake business model itself. The second was how fans are receiving the character designs: when turning Super Famicom-era pixel-art characters into 3D models, opinions differ on how well the results balance faithfulness to the originals. Some were harshly critical — “the flat, same-looking faces bug me” — while others were delighted by faithful little details, like the snowman fairy Boston. The thread also touched on reports that, after the release of the second remake, “Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven,” the producer expressed enthusiasm for remaking 3 and 4 as well, fueling hopes for the series’ continued expansion. Note: the terms “Seven Heroes” and “Four Fiend Lords” mentioned in the thread refer to the enemy factions appearing in Romancing SaGa 2 and 3 respectively — worth flagging for readers unfamiliar with the series.

  • Tokyo Police to Repaint Half the City’s Yellow Center Lines White Over Bicycle-Overtaking Rule Conflict

Following an April amendment to the Road Traffic Act that requires drivers to maintain a set lateral distance when overtaking cyclists, reports have revealed that on Tokyo’s narrower streets, keeping that distance often means crossing the yellow center line that prohibits overtaking. In response, the Metropolitan Police Department has announced plans to repaint roughly half of Tokyo’s yellow center lines white. Reactions on 5ch split between criticism of officials for not foreseeing this contradiction before the law changed, suggestions that it would be simpler to just rewrite the rule’s wording than repaint the lines, and debate over whether cars or bicycles should be the ones adjusting speed and position.

Bicycle-Overtaking “New Rule” Sparks Wave of Traffic Violations — Metropolitan Police to Repaint Tokyo’s Yellow Center Lines “White” [Spotlight]

Alongside this April’s amendment to the Road Traffic Act, which set rules for how cars overtake bicycles, a Spotlight investigative report has found that a separate traffic violation is occurring: cars are crossing yellow center lines — which prohibit crossing over — in order to keep their distance from cyclists. Following this report, it has newly come to light that the Metropolitan Police Department plans to repaint roughly half of the yellow center lines in Tokyo as “white lines.”

    Re: #96
Maybe the car crawling along behind the bike should get arrested for tailgating/road rage instead.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

The April amendment made it mandatory for cars to keep a lateral distance from cyclists, but many stretches of road in Tokyo are narrow, so keeping that distance often means crossing over the yellow center line into the opposite lane. Yellow lines were originally drawn to prohibit crossing for overtaking in sections with poor visibility of oncoming traffic, so the Metropolitan Police Department appears to have chosen to repaint them white in order to bring the lines in line with the new rule. In the thread, criticism of officials for not anticipating this contradiction before the law took effect, questions about efficiency — wouldn’t it be enough to just rewrite what the lines mean? — and a more fundamental disagreement over whether cars or bicycles should be the ones to yield speed or position all came up at once, turning this into less of a simple “repainting” story and more a debate about how hard it is to design traffic rules in the first place.

Because she's the cutest one at Yoshimoto

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Erina Ikuta is known as one of the longest-serving members in Hello! Project history, and her activities since moving to Yoshimoto Kogyo have been drawing reader interest. The “Muscle Squad” mentioned on the thread refers to a comedy unit made up of Noda Crystal, Aoki Macho, and Shinya — it’s easy to misread this as a collaboration with fighters or athletes, but it’s actually about joining them to write a song as a support ambassador for Fukuoka City’s Geothermal Symposium. Opinions on her singing ability were split: some recalled that she was seen as “bad at singing” during her Hello! Project days, while others cited an old comment from songwriter Hyadain that she’d be considered a lead vocalist if she’d joined a different group. Notably, the discussion unfolded less as simple mudslinging and more as a genuine debate over her actual skill level. There were also comments noting that footage of a song she performed on a Yoshimoto stage wasn’t included in the released version, hinting at some unevenness in how much exposure her activities are getting.

  • Where Were You on 9/11? 5ch Users Recall: ‘I Froze When the Second Plane Hit’

What were people in Japan doing the moment the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks unfolded in America? A thread on 5ch’s “Morning Coffee” board revived those memories. Responses varied widely — some caught the live broadcast on TV by chance, others noticed something was wrong when the internet slowed to a crawl during overtime work, and some were at the arcade playing fighting games. Several people said they initially assumed the first plane was an accident, only realizing it was a terrorist attack when the second plane hit — capturing just how confusing those moments were.

Think it was during the cooking segment on Jungle TV —
it cut to the news right as the second plane hit.

    Background and Key Points

On the day of 9/11, the first plane struck the World Trade Center at 9:46 PM Japan time. Back then, always-on internet access wasn’t yet the norm, so most people learned about the events through live TV broadcasts or newspaper extras — a stark contrast to today’s social-media-driven information environment. One thread comment asked, “Did 2channel even exist back then?”, but 2channel was founded in 1999, so it was already around when 9/11 happened. There was also a comment claiming to have seen a breaking-news report about the collapse of Building 7 (WTC7); however, official investigations attributed that collapse to fires caused by debris, and this should be read separately from the conspiracy theories that circulated at the time. The split between people who say they watched it live and those who found out afterward also reflects how differently information traveled back then, depending on generation and individual circumstance.

  • Even 5ch Users Are Stumped Over Why You’re Supposed to Kill the Four Magic Nobles in Romancing SaGa 3

On 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyo G” board, a thread about Romancing SaGa 3 took off after someone asked, “Why were the Four Magic Nobles even enemies you had to defeat in the first place?” Posters who had actually cleared the game chimed in one after another with “I don’t remember the reason,” and the discussion spread to cover the true identity of the Four Magic Nobles, their relationship to the previous Demon Lord, the long-running debate over how to pronounce their name (“yon-ma-kizoku” or “shi-ma-kizoku”), and even comparisons to the remake’s depiction and to newer entries in the series.

I played Revenge of the Seven right after SaGa Emerald Beyond, and I was let down that you could win just by spamming Flash Fire over and over.

    Re: #85
There can't be more than a handful of JRPGs with combat that beats SaGa Emerald Beyond.
Actually, I don't even know of any.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Romancing SaGa 3 is an RPG released by Square (as it was then known) for the Super Famicom in 1995. Many of its boss battles, including those against the Four Magic Nobles, are woven into a highly flexible, branching scenario structure, so players can often end up facing these fights without the reason ever being spelled out. That structural quirk is the backdrop for the repeated comments in this thread along the lines of “I cleared the game and still don’t know why.” The debate over how to pronounce the Four Magic Nobles’ name (“yon-ma-kizoku” vs. “shi-ma-kizoku”) stems from the fact that the original kanji was never given furigana, fueling a long-running argument among fans; posters in the thread noted that the recently released remake’s promotional video adopted the “yon-ma-kizoku” reading. The “Saga Eme” (SaGa Emerald Beyond) and “Ribe Saga” (Revenge of the Seven) mentioned later in the thread are recent entries in the SaGa series, and the thread also featured comparisons of their battle systems.

  • Can’t Quit Sweet Bread Rolls Even in Middle Age — 5ch: ‘Wheat Flour Is Addictive, You Know’

A thread titled “I’m middle-aged but I still can’t quit sweet bread rolls” popped up on 5ch’s Hello! Project board, drawing a wave of sympathetic and self-reproachful replies. Sweet bread rolls (kashi-pan) are high in calories, and since wheat flour is said to be addictive, many posters said that eating one just makes you crave another. The discussion ranged from personal coping strategies — a self-imposed under-300-kcal rule, buying a home bread maker, or swapping in whole-wheat bread with tuna mayo — to warnings about pairing sweet bread with juice, and speculation that Hello! Project idols eat sweet bread too but stay slim thanks to their youth and busy schedules. Opinions also split over just how long basal metabolism holds up before it starts to decline.

Probably just an NG (ignore-list) misfire

    Background and Talking Points

Many “kashi-pan” (sweet bread rolls) products combine refined wheat flour with sugar and fat, and they’re frequently singled out in nutritional counseling as foods that spike blood sugar quickly. The thread’s claim that “wheat flour is addictive” is a widely repeated piece of folk wisdom, but experts are divided on whether it can medically be equated with addiction, and it remains largely anecdotal. There was also a post claiming basal metabolism “doesn’t decline until your 60s,” but this too is just one theory — the degree and timing of age-related metabolic decline varies considerably from person to person. Notably, rather than swearing off sweet bread entirely, many posters in the thread favored finding ways to manage the habit, such as a self-imposed rule of staying under 300 kcal, switching to a home bread maker, or substituting whole-wheat bread with tuna mayo.

  • BEYOOOOONDS’ Song From 2 Years Ago Mysteriously Surges in Views — Fans Baffled It’s an Old Track, Not the New Single

The view count on a song Hello! Project’s BEYOOOOONDS released two years ago has suddenly started climbing with no obvious trigger. On 5ch’s Hello! Project board, users voiced confusion and suspicion, asking things like “a new song, sure, but why a song from two years ago?” and “it’s odd for something that was supposedly bought.” Some speculated the surge was kicked off by view-farming services in Southeast Asia or a shoutout from an outside music account, and the discussion even spiraled into comparisons with Morning Musume’s concert attendance numbers. The truth remains unclear, and speculation continues to swirl.

    There's no 'mastermind' here
an outside music account just praised it

the Sutepura chart numbers (a fan-tracked streaming ranking app) were up too, which made it easy to spread

Wait, you mean 'Hai to Diamond'?
    58AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:46
    Re: #45
Sounds like BEYOO fans want to treat 'Hai to Diamond' — a song whose views are just climbing unnaturally — the same as a real 'Morimi' hit (fan slang for a song that's genuinely blowing up)
They're free to hope for that, but this whole thread is really just people asking one simple question: 'why "Hai to Diamond," and why now?'
    46AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:44
    You can buy views, sure
Isn't that the whole point of hype marketing?

That very creepiness is basically proof they didn't buy it — if this were manufactured, the timing and the member lineup would both be off

The timing and the fact that it's Kishimoto are both off too

    104AnonymousSep 10, 2026 10:05

    107AnonymousSep 10, 2026 10:07
    Re: #104
That's exactly what's different from the Juice=Juice case
Only 'Hai to Diamond's' view count just keeps climbing
while the other MVs and members' Instagram accounts see zero movement

Background and Key Points of This Debate

A video’s view count can climb quickly in a short time just from social media buzz or a shoutout from an outside account, so a sudden spike in numbers alone isn’t proof of foul play. That said, the idol industry has seen suspected cases of organized view-buying and stealth marketing before, which is part of why fans remain wary of “unnatural growth patterns.” In this thread, people pointed to the fact that view growth doesn’t necessarily track with concert attendance, and that only an old song — not the new single — is growing, as evidence of something being “off.” But both points remain circumstantial, and nothing has been shown to confirm who might be boosting the views or why. For readers, it’s worth remembering that view-count swings alone are a poor way to gauge real fan enthusiasm or popularity, and that a firm conspiracy claim should be read separately from simple organic spread.

*This article excerpts and summarizes the 5ch (Hello! Project board) thread “Fine to pay for views, but why boost a 2-year-old song instead of the new one? To fans, it’s just plain creepy.”
