  • Mini Truck with Overhanging Cargo Backs Into Parked Car at Lot — 5ch: ‘Okay, This One’s Just Sad’

A photo posted to 5ch’s Nandemo Jikkyo G board sparked a wide-ranging debate over fault ratios in a parking-lot collision. A kei (mini) truck carrying cargo — what looked like wooden beams — that jutted out past the truck bed backed into the rear of a parked car, and the image clearly shows the truck plowing into the stationary vehicle. While posters agreed from the start that “the truck is obviously at fault,” opinions split on several finer points: whether the driver was legally required to mark the protruding cargo with a red flag, whether a parking lot even counts as a “road” under traffic law, and whether the crash could have been avoided if the driver had been watching the backup monitor.

I always thought you were supposed to tie a red cloth on the part that sticks out like that.
    29AnonymousOct 3, 2026 18:53
    Re: #7
If a red cloth is actually required by traffic law, that'd shift the fault ratio.
Also, with this much open space around, why not just park somewhere else?
So many people insist on parking right next to other cars for some reason.
    8AnonymousOct 3, 2026 18:50
So what's the actual answer here?

The black car just loses, plain and simple.
    10AnonymousOct 3, 2026 18:50
Isn't it illegal not to put a marker on long cargo like this when you're hauling it?
    14AnonymousOct 3, 2026 18:50
Sure, it might be a trap, but does nobody check what's already in the parking space before backing in?
    16AnonymousOct 3, 2026 18:51
Why do bad drivers always go out of their way to park right next to other cars?
    66AnonymousOct 3, 2026 19:06
    Re: #16
Apparently some people use nearby cars as a reference point when parking.
    32AnonymousOct 3, 2026 18:54
Normal limit (allowed without a permit)
Length: up to 1.2x the vehicle's length (overhang of up to 1/10 (10%) of the vehicle's length is allowed front and back).

    Did you guys lose again?

    37AnonymousOct 3, 2026 18:55
It's sticking out past the white line too, so even at best it's probably a 70-30 split against the truck.
With a red marker it might — might — get close to 50-50.
    41AnonymousOct 3, 2026 18:56

"Sticking out past the white line" lol
That part means literally nothing lol
    38AnonymousOct 3, 2026 18:55
I'm an old-timer who thinks using a backup monitor makes you a worse driver — is this basically proof of that?
    46AnonymousOct 3, 2026 18:57
    Re: #38
If anything, this happened *because* he wasn't watching the backup monitor.
    48AnonymousOct 3, 2026 18:57

Unless you get out and check before parking, I think pretty much anyone would've hit it.
    39AnonymousOct 3, 2026 18:55
This is exactly why 'tonarā' (people who insist on parking right next to your car even in an empty lot) are the worst.

    55AnonymousOct 3, 2026 19:00
    Re: #52
It's not about bashing anyone, it's about who's actually at fault. In this case the truck isn't guilty of anything — if anything, it's the victim.
    62AnonymousOct 3, 2026 19:03
This one's rough, honestly — kind of feel for whoever's in the wrong here. But what would actually happen in a case like this?
    63AnonymousOct 3, 2026 19:04
    Re: #62
What else could it be besides the one who crashed in being 100% at fault? The other car was just sitting there lol
    68AnonymousOct 3, 2026 19:06
    Re: #62
Since it's a parking lot and the other car was completely stationary, the fault ratio is obviously going to lean hard against the one who was moving.
How the overhanging cargo on a parked vehicle factors in, though, is something a layman just can't say.
    64AnonymousOct 3, 2026 19:05
Wait, is it even allowed for cargo to stick out past the truck bed?
    71AnonymousOct 3, 2026 19:06
    Re: #64
There's obviously some limit relative to the vehicle's length, sure, but this amount isn't something to worry about.
    72AnonymousOct 3, 2026 19:07
The kei truck's at fault, sure, but I also think — just park one spot over, man.
    76AnonymousOct 3, 2026 19:09
    Re: #72
    The lot's basically empty too.
He must have seen the beams sticking out when he was parking.
    I wouldn't have parked here.
    77AnonymousOct 3, 2026 19:09
Seems like overhanging cargo is supposed to be made visible, but if the truck driver had properly checked by eye while backing up, this probably wouldn't have happened — so I'd call it something like 40 (other car) to 60 (truck).
    80AnonymousOct 3, 2026 19:10
    Re: #77
It's not a public road and the vehicle wasn't even moving, so the red marker isn't necessary.
    82AnonymousOct 3, 2026 19:12
The allowed overhang is up to 10% of the vehicle's length, so sticking out by around 50cm would require the vehicle to be at least 5 meters long.
Is a kei truck even 5 meters long?
    86AnonymousOct 3, 2026 19:13
    Re: #82
Either way it's probably not 5m, but I think that's a 2-ton dump truck, not a kei truck.
    89AnonymousOct 3, 2026 19:15
I showed the photo to Gemini and asked it — it says the fault ratio is backing vehicle: 80-100% / parked vehicle: 0-20%.
    90AnonymousOct 3, 2026 19:15
    Re: #89
    Yeah, that sounds about right.
    92AnonymousOct 3, 2026 19:19
    Re: #86
If it were a 2-ton dump truck, it wouldn't be sticking out this far under the legal standard.
And either way, letting it hang out the back instead of the front is just careless.
    95AnonymousOct 3, 2026 19:21
    Re: #92
You can tell just by looking at the corners of the two vehicles — that's not a kei truck.
    98AnonymousOct 3, 2026 19:23
Didn't it have one of those 360-degree overhead-view cameras? If it did, this could've been avoided.

    Re: #98
Even if a car has one, plenty of people don't use it.
Not many people set it to display by default, and hitting the switch button is a hassle.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Fault ratios are determined case by case based on the parties’ circumstances and the judgment of insurers or courts — they can’t be settled definitively from a photo alone. The “cargo can overhang up to 10% of the vehicle’s length” standard that came up in the thread is based on vehicle safety regulations for road transport, and it’s premised on driving on public roads. Whether that standard carries over directly to private property like a parking lot is inherently a case-by-case question, and the claim that “it’s not a road, so there’s no obligation to use a red cloth” isn’t a settled legal conclusion either. Whether the cargo stuck out past the white line isn’t a factor that directly determines the fault ratio either — it’s just one piece of situational information. The fault-ratio figures posters got by showing the photo to an AI chatbot are likewise only a rough reference point, not a legal basis for determining actual insurance grading or damages.

  • France’s “40 Kids Per Classroom” Protests Erupt Into Riots

In France, protests against overcrowded classrooms of 40 students have turned into riots. During the unrest, cars, shops, and schools have been set on fire, and sitting teachers have been assaulted. Footage of a civilian having their face burned with a blowtorch has gone viral on social media, and the damage keeps spreading. On 5channel, opinions split between users calling the escalating violence “a fight between the poor” and those debating whether violent protest can ever be justified.

The protest really has turned into a fight between the poor, hasn't it.

Background and Key Points of This Story

Staff shortages and overcrowded classrooms have long been a recurring problem in French schools, and this round of protests reportedly began with frustration over class sizes of 40 students. What stands out is that a protest meant to demand better working conditions has escalated into arson targeting vehicles and shops, destruction of school facilities, and even assaults on the very teachers the protest was supposed to be supporting. On the thread, opinions clashed between those framing the violent turn as justified under a kind of revolutionary logic, and those arguing that arson and assault are never acceptable, in any country. It’s also been pointed out that the people getting hurt are ordinary local residents and teachers rather than the “privileged elite” — a detail easy to miss from the article alone, since it shows the protest isn’t simply a “citizens vs. power” standoff but one tangled up with friction inside the local community itself.

  • Toyotaro’s Latest Art Draws Backlash — 5ch: ‘Toriyama Was a Billion Times Better’

A thread on 5ch’s “Live Anything Goes” board (なんでも実況G) sparked criticism over the artwork in the latest chapter of “Dragon Ball Super,” drawn by manga artist Toyotaro. Commenters compared it to Akira Toriyama’s style, piling on with comments like “it lacks punch” and “it looks phoned-in.” Some argued that criticism is fair game since this is an official successor work, not a fan comic, while others fired back that if you don’t like it, just don’t watch it. The discussion expanded to cover comparisons with Toriyama’s own late-career art, along with testimony that Toyotaro’s work was actually good back in his doujin (fan-comic) days, as posters debated what’s really behind the apparent drop in quality.

Switching IDs over and over — pretty pathetic.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Akira Toriyama passed away in March 2024, and since then the manga version of “Dragon Ball Super” has been continued by Toyotaro. The thread’s remark that “serialization stopped after Toriyama died and then resumed” reflects that timeline. The debate split into roughly two camps. The first was whether this can simply be waved off with “if you don’t like it, don’t watch it” — many pushed back hard, arguing that since this is an official successor work rather than a fan comic, criticism naturally comes with the territory. The second concerned the cause of the apparent drop in art quality: testimony that Toyotaro’s work was good back in his amateur days fueled suspicion that a heavy workload from serialization and anime-related work, or simply a lack of motivation, might be to blame — alongside a counterargument that he’s merely being compared to an exceptionally, uniquely gifted artist in Toriyama. It’s also worth noting that some say even Toriyama himself saw his own art decline in his later years, so readers should keep in mind that assessments can swing heavily depending on which point in an artist’s career is used as the benchmark.

A US outlet has predicted the Red Sox will cut ties with Masataka Yoshida this offseason, reporting that “his contract has already become a sunk cost.” The harsh assessment points to Yoshida’s low career fWAR and the fact that, as a DH-only player, he doesn’t start against lefties or when he’s in a slump. On 5ch’s livestream board, reactions poured in covering his batting numbers, how he’s being deployed, and comparisons with other Japanese players thriving in MLB right now. While most posters agreed he hasn’t performed to the level of his contract, some argued the real problem is how he’s being used, leaving opinion split.

He only got playing time this year because Boston got hit with a wave of injuries and had no young players to call up, like earlier this season.

He's been given 1,500 career plate appearances and has only produced 2.0 career fWAR.

    And he still delivered nothing.

This is the same old story: the Red Sox are just the idiots who, stunned, immediately said 'OK' to Boras's baffling mega-offer right out of the gate.

    Re: #17
Still, a player has a responsibility to perform to the level of his contract.
Though I guess if Yoshida's attitude is 'as long as I get paid, who cares,' then he's just an irresponsible player on Anthony Rendon's level.
    21AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:43
The worst part is the contract means they can't option him to the minors and are forced to keep running him out there.
He's caused his team more trouble than Kei Igawa did.
    36AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:49
    Re: #21
    He's a waste of a roster spot.
With MLB's tight roster limits, there's basically zero demand for a pinch-hitter/pinch-runner type, so there's nothing to do with him.
And since he's DH-only, he barely gets injured, so they can't even stash him in the minors that way either.
    24AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:44
Sugano, meanwhile, signed a cheap one-year deal, never complained, and just quietly put up solid numbers.
Really makes you respect him — he genuinely just wanted to pitch in the majors.
    41AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:51
    Re: #24
Wonder what happens with Sugano. People lump him in with Yoshida, but he's a starter who can eat around 150 innings, so some team might take a chance on him.

What were Masataka Yoshida's years over here even for?
    45AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:53

Murakami's batting stats are pretty solid, and Okamoto's solid overall too. They're just on a different level as players.
    29AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:48
He gets hits, but doesn't have much power.
    Weak arm, narrow defensive range.
In NPB he didn't strike out much and padded his OBP with walks or by getting pitched around,
but in MLB he strikes out like everyone else and isn't pitched around,
and combined with the huge contract, he's turned into a really awkward player to have on a roster.
    48AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:55
    Re: #29
He was 'Zero-Barrel Masa' after all (a nod to his near-zero Statcast barrel rate).
He's probably just not suited to MLB in general.
Can't help that — he should just go back to Japan and give it his best there.
He could probably still hit plenty well in NPB.
    37AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:50
It's tough if you're not someone who keeps grinding.
This guy treated signing the contract itself as the finish line.

Maybe a team as depleted as Boston was in the first half of this season.
But I don't think any team would build their roster around Yoshida as a starter.
    53AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:57
His salary is 2.8 billion yen, so he can't return to NPB for at least another year.
Even splitting it 50/50 with the Red Sox is still 1.4 billion yen.
No team can give Yoshida that kind of special treatment alone.
    56AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:58

    fWAR
2023 (qualified for the batting title): 0.8
    2024: 0.9

And that's the result after being given plenty of playing time.

Yoshida, who's produced nothing at all, is also at fault.
Blaming only the team doesn't make sense.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

The “sunk cost” framing that kicked off this article refers to money already spent that can’t be recovered — an economics concept holding that it shouldn’t factor into future decisions. The US outlet used this to argue that Yoshida’s contract (a five-year deal running from 2023) is now out of step with his production. The fWAR metric used as a benchmark in the thread reflects overall contribution including defense and baserunning, and since a full-time DH gets no defensive opportunities, his number is structurally hard to boost. The disconnect in the debate came down to posters defending him with “his bat still translates” without accounting for that, versus critics pointing out he’d already been given plenty of chances and still came up short. Comparisons also came up with Sugano, who’s performing well in the same stretch, and with Murakami and Okamoto, who moved over from NPB — though since they play different positions and signed very different contracts, those comparisons should be taken with a grain of salt. On the chance of a trade, a few posts touched on the mechanism where a team could absorb part of his remaining salary, but whether any deal actually happens depends on future negotiations between clubs; as of this article, it remains only a US media prediction.

  • Morning Park Day-Drinker Gets Crowned with Nickname “Home Run” — 5ch Thread: “Booze Is My Forever Friend”

A thread titled “I’m drinking from the morning~” popped up on 5ch’s News VIP board, where the original poster reported sipping a lemon sour first thing in the morning. Replies poured in one after another — some admitting they couldn’t resist breaking their “liver-rest day,” others siding with the morning-coffee crowd. The conversation eventually turned to a regular poster known for day-drinking in a park for years, who ended up being gifted the kotehan (fixed handle name) “Home Run,” named after the size of the canned chu-hi he used to drink. Amid the fun, some commenters also voiced concern for his health.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

VIP is a board where lighthearted, idle chat threads like this pop up all the time, and this one followed the typical pattern: anonymous posters chatting about drink brands and whether they take days off from drinking, which naturally snowballed into someone picking up a nickname. Within the thread, the lifestyle of the poster who said he’s been day-drinking in a park for years drew both amusement and concern, creating a noticeable gap between the casual, fun tone of the banter and the more worried reactions about his health. It’s worth noting that claims like “I’ve been park-drinking for 8 years” and “I drink alcohol while on medication” are self-reported statements on an anonymous board and cannot be verified.

  • Is Tokyo’s Food Really That Bad? 5ch Erupts with Water-Quality and Ad-Spending Theories

On 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyo G” (a general live-commentary board), the perennial topic “Tokyo food is bad” came up again, drawing 41 replies. The thread starter suggested it might just be regional posters trying to one-up Tokyo, or that they simply hadn’t found the good restaurants yet — but the discussion quickly branched into differences in tap water, the number of Michelin-starred restaurants, and high rent and advertising costs. Opinions split between those pointing to the abundance of high-end restaurants as proof that “Tokyo food is great,” and those arguing that the average quality of everyday, affordable restaurants is actually higher out in the regions. The debate never reached a consensus.

In Tokyo, spending money on advertising is more profitable than improving food quality if you want to win that competition. Since customers turn over so fast, even a place bad enough that nobody ever comes back twice can stay afloat just by fooling first-timers with ads.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

The “Tokyo food is bad” theory isn’t only about regional posters trying to one-up Tokyo — it’s also been debated from a more practical angle: how high rent and labor costs feed into the trade-off between price and quality. Tokyo’s tap water, drawn from sources like the Tama River system, undergoes advanced treatment, and its hardness is said to be lower than the national average — meaning the thread’s claim that it’s “super hard water that ruins the food” runs counter to the common understanding. The high number of Michelin-starred restaurants is also a skewed metric, weighted toward pricey high-end establishments, and doesn’t necessarily reflect the quality of the everyday, affordable places most people actually eat at. Where the thread split was over framing — whether to judge Tokyo by its “high-end restaurants” or its “everyday restaurants” — which led to opposite conclusions even though everyone was looking at the same city. The point that “restaurants that spend more on advertising make more money” was also raised as a structural feature unique to a huge city with such rapid customer turnover, and should be read as a separate issue from the actual quality of the food itself.

  • Famous Ramen Shop’s Prices Spark Outcry: ‘That’s Not a Tsukemen Price’

A price list from a famous ramen shop posted on 5ch’s Hello! Project board has gone viral. The tsukemen (dipping noodles) was priced at 4,250 yen, prompting shocked reactions like “That’s not a tsukemen price” and “For that much you could eat an unagi rice bowl or a steak.” Some in the thread pointed to soaring costs of wheat, vegetables, and meat as the reason behind the hikes, while others argued that for a shop with lines out the door, the price is fair given supply and demand. Still others noted that at the same price, other popular chains like Jiro or Tonyama start to look like a bargain by comparison — opinions were split on how to judge ramen pricing.

    @
That's not a tsukemen price, lol
    5AnonymousOct 3, 2026 14:53
It's not just ramen shops — everything keeps going up and up.
And it never comes back down.
    6AnonymousOct 3, 2026 14:54
If they've got lines out the door and can charge a premium, I guess that's fair in its own way.
But to someone who doesn't care, paying 2,000 yen after waiting in line looks almost masochistic.
    8AnonymousOct 3, 2026 14:55
    It's not just Tomita.
Other shops' prices are only going to keep climbing — it's a one-way street.
Wheat, vegetables, meat — every ingredient is getting more expensive, so of course prices go up.
    9AnonymousOct 3, 2026 14:57
It was way cheaper just a few years ago, go look it up.
Prices are only going to keep rising from here, so if you want to eat it, now's probably the time.
Five years from now it'll be even pricier, so looking back from then, today might still count as cheap.
    12AnonymousOct 3, 2026 14:59
Seeing this makes Jiro and Tonyama look almost too cheap — I feel bad for them.
    13AnonymousOct 3, 2026 15:00
If I'm paying 4,250 yen, I'd rather get an unagi rice bowl or a steak.
    14AnonymousOct 3, 2026 15:02
I spent big and partied hard back in the deflation years, so I'm satisfied now.
Overseas trips, sports cars, fashion, surfing, fine dining, chasing women — I did it all.
Now that we're in this brutal inflation era, I'll just coast through my remaining years.
    16AnonymousOct 3, 2026 15:03
If they're going to charge prices like that, drop the counter-only seating.
    Make it all table seats.
Then the ramen shop would probably whine about turnover dropping instead.
    17AnonymousOct 3, 2026 15:03
If they let part-timers run the place with continuous hours, they could keep it cheap.
But since the famous owner himself works the kitchen, hours are short, demand can't be met, and they need to use price to keep the chaos in check.
    19AnonymousOct 3, 2026 15:04
    Who cares.
You lot were never going to set foot in that ramen shop in your whole life anyway.
    20AnonymousOct 3, 2026 15:05
Business is free to run however it wants, so let them do as they please.
    21AnonymousOct 3, 2026 15:07
You think it's “expensive,” right? But in a few years there'll come a time when this price looks “cheap.”
Because Japan's inflation is going to keep running for the next 5, even 10 years — seriously, unfortunately.
    27AnonymousOct 3, 2026 15:13
They can get away with pricing this bold because there are still customers (fans) willing to pay.
    28AnonymousOct 3, 2026 15:15
This is what you'd call high-end ramen.
Unlike the everyday ramen you can casually grab anytime,
it's moved into the category of a “feast” — on par with a traditional ryotei restaurant or French dining.
    29AnonymousOct 3, 2026 15:15
We're the ones dropping 9,000 yen on a concert for our favorite idol, so we're pretty bad too (point taken).
    30AnonymousOct 3, 2026 15:16
There's also the letdown pattern where, despite the high-end price, it's not actually all that great once you eat it.
The bad shops like that are the first to go under.
The ones that genuinely win customers' hearts are the ones that last.
    31AnonymousOct 3, 2026 15:17
Apparently this shop was crowned number one at the Ramen Japan Championship.
If that's true, this price makes sense.
    32AnonymousOct 3, 2026 15:18
Hello! Project holding fans' hearts for 30 years straight — that's actually impressive.
    34AnonymousOct 3, 2026 15:20
Just because they serve the noodles and sauce separately, they think they can tack on an extra 1,000 yen.
    35AnonymousOct 3, 2026 15:20
It's a famous shop that shows up often on BS and CS ramen-shop feature programs.
    36AnonymousOct 3, 2026 15:21
If you ate ramen in New York, it'd run about that much anyway.
    37AnonymousOct 3, 2026 15:22
It's basically got a tie-up with 7-Eleven at this point.
    38AnonymousOct 3, 2026 15:22
I had the tsukemen at Tomita and it was just… tsukemen.
I don't get why people hype it up this much.
    39AnonymousOct 3, 2026 15:22
I want Hello! Project to become the kind of thing people line up around the block for.
    40AnonymousOct 3, 2026 15:24
I don't think you need to bother buying shumai or a seasoned soft-boiled egg at a place like this.
But if you skip them, people will probably think you're lame for not getting the works.
    41AnonymousOct 3, 2026 15:27
Tsukemen's pretty much the same everywhere.
I recently ducked into a popular tsukemen shop on a whim when I was hungry, and it was the same fish-based flavor as everywhere else.
    42AnonymousOct 3, 2026 15:29
This kind of style probably won't last long.
    60AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:06

once or twice in your life is plenty.

    48AnonymousOct 3, 2026 15:34
At Hakataya in Fukuoka I ate something that barely qualified as ramen.
You just dump the ramen sauce sitting on the table all over it and it sort of becomes ramen.

    Re: #49

    52AnonymousOct 3, 2026 15:45
The one in the basement at Tokyo Station was bad.
Is the main shop actually any good?

Background and Key Points of This Debate

The price list behind this uproar is said to belong to the ramen shop Tomita, and commenters in the thread pointed out that “it’s not just Tomita” — other famous shops are also raising prices due to soaring ingredient costs. Ramen has long been an affordable, everyday meal for ordinary people, but shops where a celebrity owner does the cooking face limits on operating hours and output, creating a structure where demand easily outstrips supply and pushes prices up. Opinions in the thread split between those who see this as a “fair price” set by market forces as long as the lines keep forming, and those who weigh it against the everyday instinct that the same money could buy an entirely different meal. It’s worth noting that the claim floated in the thread about the shop having won the “Ramen Japan Championship” is just one poster’s comment, not a confirmed fact.

  • Real Estate Stocks Plunge, Condo Prices Start to Slide Too — 5ch Talks ‘Residual-Loan Tower Condos’

A thread titled “The Real Estate Industry Is Starting to Fall Apart,” posted on 5ch’s Nandemo Jikkyo G (livegalileo) board, reported falling prices for new and used condos in Tokyo alongside a crash in real estate stocks. Some posters noted that share prices are down 40-50% from their spring peak, and the term “residual-loan tower condo” (zankure tawaman — borrowing the slang for an auto loan’s remaining balance to describe buyers financing high-rise condos with multi-decade loans) got thrown around a lot. Posters were split on whether this decline reflects a structural trend driven by Japan’s falling birth rate or is just a temporary correction, with plenty of lingering skepticism rooted in past “it’s totally going to collapse” predictions that never came true.

Real estate agents must have known all along

With the birth rate falling, the population aging, and the massive stock of property owned by baby boomers who settled in the cities about to hit the market — there's no way prices were going to keep rising

    Re: #102
It was speculative demand plus the real estate industry's own agenda
Once the government started prioritizing genuine housing needs and rolled out consumer protection policies, it all collapsed at once

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

“Zankure” is slang originally referring to the unpaid balance on a car loan; the term caught on in the thread after being applied to people buying tower condos with multi-decade loans. As for what drove real estate prices up, the thread raised two competing theories without settling on a main cause — a wave of buying by Chinese capital, versus speculation and industry maneuvering disconnected from real housing demand. It’s also easy to overlook that real estate stocks and J-REITs don’t always move in lockstep, so a drop in share prices doesn’t necessarily mean the whole housing market is falling. On the declining birth rate, there’s a persistent view that as long as population keeps concentrating in cities, it won’t simply translate into oversupply, leaving forecasts divided. On interest rates too, opinions split between those saying a hike is unnecessary with CPI around 1.9%, and those calling for a hike to counter the weak yen — with mortgage rate trends watched closely as a factor that will shape where prices head next.

  • Why So Little Media Exposure for Irie Risa? 5ch: “She’s the Group’s Top Seller, Yet Its Biggest Mystery”

On 5ch, Irie Risa’s name came up as the one member of Hello! Project’s Juice=Juice whose lack of media exposure stands out. Threads speculated that after returning from a long hiatus, her workload may be deliberately being kept light. The group is now considered one of Hello! Project’s best-selling units, yet posters noted, “She’s in her sixth year and we still barely know anything about her” and “Compared to Ebata and Arisawa, she just doesn’t leave much of an impression.” The consensus was that while her talents — taiko drumming, calligraphy, and the Soran Bushi dance — are well known, surprisingly little is known about her personality or personal tastes.

Irie Risa is a member of Juice=Juice, and the thread discussed her past long-term hiatus — though it’s worth noting the specific reason for that hiatus has never been officially explained by Irie herself or her agency, and remains information passed around among fans. Juice=Juice, having gone through member graduations, is now considered one of Hello! Project’s central groups; while Ebata Hisaki and Arisawa Real are each known for clear, easy-to-grasp personas, posters agreed that Irie, despite being highly regarded for skills like taiko drumming and the Soran Bushi dance, comes across as hard to get a read on as a person. Some called for more gravure work, though that’s likely tied to the fact that Hello! Project itself has scaled back that kind of content in recent years.

  • Haruka Fukuhara’s Reported Relationship With Takefusa Kubo: 5ch Dubs Her “A Saint Who Doesn’t Pick Men By Looks”

News that actress Haruka Fukuhara (28) is dating Japan national team footballer Takefusa Kubo set off a wave of posts on 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyo” (general live-discussion) board calling her “a saint who doesn’t choose men by their face.” Rather than dwelling on the relationship itself, the thread quickly drifted into debates over Kubo’s estimated salary, his looks, and Fukuhara’s track record as an actress and former idol, with plenty of jabs about the age gap and her child-star days as “Main-chan.” Opinions split between warm and withering, and the thread never really landed on a consensus.

    Is she the taller one?
    48Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 12:19
    Re: #5
    Wasn't Main-chan like 176cm+?
    6Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 12:00
His stock only goes up if she's on Inada's level [likely a reference to a well-known beauty/celebrity used here as a benchmark].
    7Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 12:01
So basically he picked her for her money — you cool with that?
    11Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 12:01
    Re: #7
He doesn't even have that much money. Footballers don't have much of a future anyway.
    12Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 12:02
    Re: #7
Money alone doesn't get you dates. Plenty of stories about some rich old guy getting milked dry and then dumped.
    23Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 12:08
She's not exactly A-list as an actress, so if anything she's the one who got picked…

    Re: #23
Do it in the Main-chan costume.
    28Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 12:11
Kubo's probably never even seen what Fukuhara looked like as a kid.
    30Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 12:11
    Re: #28
He must've caught her on TV at some point.
    44Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 12:17
    Re: #28
There's a 3-year gap between them, so maybe he really doesn't know.
    34Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 12:13
That's before bonuses — in soccer you've also got appearance fees, so realistically he's pulling in maybe 20% more than that.
    37Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 12:15
Still way better than marrying some old company president, no?
    40Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 12:16
Once she grew up, her run as an idol and actress kind of stalled out, didn't it.
    47Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 12:17
Lol, foreigners on X are going around saying he married an anime voice actress — apparently she did do some voice work after all.
    49Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 12:19
    Re: #47
She's neither more nor less than Main-chan, honestly.
    53Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 12:21
    Re: #47
She voiced a Pretty Cure character!
    52Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 12:21
But Kubo could date basically any stacked bombshell he wants — why'd he go with Fukuhara?
    54Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 12:22
    Re: #52
Maybe she's the big-sister figure he had a crush on watching Eテレ [NHK's educational TV channel] as a kid.
    58Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 12:24
Kubo really hasn't broken through to the general public, huh. Poll the whole country and Tatsuhiko Kubo [a different, retired Japan striker with a similar surname] would probably come out more recognizable.
    94Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 12:46
    Re: #58
Well yeah, obviously — the guy barely plays.
    62Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 12:25
If he at least won the World Cup first and then got married, that'd be cool. But if he's off chasing women, forget it.
    63Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 12:26
    Re: #62
By that logic no one on the national team would ever be allowed to marry.
    65Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 12:30
    Re: #63
If they were all virgins who only cared about soccer, they'd probably have won it by now…
    87Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 12:38
Funny how having money makes a guy suddenly look handsome…
    88Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 12:39
    Re: #87
Hate to admit it, but yeah, I feel that.
    99Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 12:51
With Kubo always lurking in the background now, the whole 'Main-chan' angle is dead.
    102Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 12:52
    Re: #99
Be honest, you're only into Main-chan — you don't actually care about Haruka Fukuhara…
    104Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 12:54
    Re: #102
Same as how Main-chan is only into Kubo-the-footballer, not Kubo-the-guy.
    114Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 13:00
She led an asadora [NHK's flagship morning drama slot] and all, but it says something that Main-chan is still her only widely-known role…
    118Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 13:03
    Re: #114
Every single thread just says 'the asadora, the asadora' — nobody can even name the actual show.
    117Anonymous (still moving)Oct 3, 2026 13:03
Dunno why, but Kubo and Nene [likely baseball player Takaya Nene, cited here for a similar vibe/look] kind of blend together in my head — though Kubo's clearly the one winning in life.

    Background and talking points

Haruka Fukuhara is best known for playing the beloved NHK educational-TV character “Main-chan” as a child, a nickname the thread kept circling back to. Takefusa Kubo, who spent part of his teens in FC Barcelona’s youth academy, is now a key player for Japan’s national team, and appears to have a noticeable age gap with Fukuhara. The thread spent far more energy debating Kubo’s estimated income, his looks, and Fukuhara’s career resume than it did discussing whether the relationship itself was even true — much of the back-and-forth wandered well off topic. Note that all details about the relationship come from posts within the 5ch thread itself; this article has not been able to verify them against a primary source.
