  • ‘Mushoku Tensei Isn’t a Show You Can Recommend to Women,’ Says Viral Post with 10K Likes — 5ch Weighs In

A post arguing that the anime Mushoku Tensei “isn’t something you can recommend to women” racked up 10,000 likes, sparking a reaction thread on 5ch’s Nandemo Jikkyo G (Live Commentary) board. Posters pointed to father Paul’s infidelity and protagonist Rudeus’s selfish treatment of women as evidence, while rumors swirled that a Hololive streamer had criticized the show on a broadcast — though even those spreading the claim admitted they “hadn’t watched it, just heard about it,” leaving the source unclear. Some in the thread argued it wasn’t about gender at all but a generational gap in values, and the discussion expanded into which specific scenes from the original novel were actually the problem.

Honestly, this is only something you'd recommend to total bottom-feeders who've failed so hard at life that their only hope is a next one.
    4AnonymousOct 4, 2026 11:21
Wouldn't Paul and Rudeus come off as creepy even to guys, not just women?
    11AnonymousOct 4, 2026 11:26
    Re: #4
It's not just that the father's gross — saying 'the maid's just as bad, idiot' feels like a very female take.
Same with going all the way to 'get a vasectomy!'
But honestly, he kind of has it coming.
    5AnonymousOct 4, 2026 11:22
Getting people this riled up — Pekora really is top dog (Hololive's Usada Pekora).
    6AnonymousOct 4, 2026 11:22
I mean, getting your mistress pregnant while your own wife is pregnant too — of course the only reaction is 'gross.'
    7AnonymousOct 4, 2026 11:22
It's basically a masterpiece of everything that triggers visceral disgust in the 'Naro' (isekai web-novel) scene.
    Creepy regardless of gender.
    8AnonymousOct 4, 2026 11:24

I love the part where Rudeus hits on a hostess-bar worker.
If Pekora watched this, she'd probably be even angrier than she was at Paul.

By that point 'Old Deus' has become an even bigger scumbag than Paul.

I really want Pekora to watch all the way to this part.

Honestly Paul really is a scumbag, so Pekora's got a point.
    13AnonymousOct 4, 2026 11:27
From a woman's perspective, yeah, it's just not a palatable show.
Don't throw a fit just because the reaction isn't what you wanted.
    14AnonymousOct 4, 2026 11:28
Can this show not go five minutes without infidelity, impotence, or some other dirty joke?
    15AnonymousOct 4, 2026 11:28
I love that Pekora got mad at the maid too.
Well, the maid was the one who came onto him, after all.

✕ A show you can't recommend to women
    ○ A show you can't recommend to 2020s otaku

Better to think of it as an old-vs-new values gap than a male-vs-female one.
The way Saga of Tanya the Evil plays sexual harassment for comedy really clashes with how otaku culture feels about that stuff now.
    20AnonymousOct 4, 2026 11:30
Re: #19 You mean Mushoku Tensei, not Saga of Tanya the Evil.
    How'd you mix those up?
    36AnonymousOct 4, 2026 11:40
The thing with Paul is supposed to be out of bounds even by that world's own standards, though.

That world basically runs on polygamy.
It's only the Milis faith that practices monogamy, and the conflict happened because Zenith is a believer.

Both episode 4's Paul and episode 2's panty-thief Rudeus are genuinely creepy.
It's only natural that people who can't get past that have a rejection reaction.

Never watched Mushoku Tensei so I can't say, but I think anime protagonists are more interesting the creepier they are.

At the end of the day it's just a 'Naro' show.
Its popularity is tiny next to a VTuber's reach.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Mushoku Tensei has sparked controversy every time it airs over its depiction of father Paul’s infidelity scandal and protagonist Rudeus’s relationships with women, and this latest “not recommended for women” take is simply the latest chapter in that pattern. What split opinion in the thread was whether to frame the issue as a matter of “gender” or as a difference in “generational/era-based values,” with many commenters pointing to how otaku culture has shifted in the 2020s. Meanwhile, it’s easy to overlook that the Hololive streamer’s criticism said to have started it all was reported secondhand even by the people posting about it — phrases like “haven’t watched it, just heard about it” and “according to nanJ chatter” — meaning nobody has confirmed who actually said what. It’s worth noting the rumor may have taken on a life of its own, spreading as a simplified “a VTuber slammed it” narrative.

  • YouTube Issues “Final Warning” to Ad-Block Users: Report Says Access Will Be Banned

Reports that YouTube plans to dramatically ramp up its crackdown on ad-blocker users sparked a reaction thread on 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyo G” board. Most replies piled on about the quality of the ads themselves — “the ads are way too long,” “it’s nothing but scam-like garbage” — with some users considering browser-wide blockers or switching to Premium. Others pushed back with “it’s the freeloaders’ own fault,” reviving the age-old standoff: put up with ads, or pay up.

YouTube Issues “Final Notice” to Ad-Blocker Users, Set to Massively Ramp Up Countermeasures

It has emerged that YouTube has decided to significantly strengthen its measures against users who watch videos with ad blockers enabled.

According to sources, YouTube’s internal teams have grown concerned that the spread of ad-blocker use is eating into ad revenue, and have concluded that warning messages alone provide “insufficient deterrent effect.” Going forward, the company reportedly plans to roll out, in phases, a system that restricts video playback itself whenever it detects an extension interfering with ad loading.

    11AnonymousOct 4, 2026 13:28
Taking advantage of the fact that you can't install extensions on the TV app, sometimes you'll watch a 3-minute video and get hit with something like 2 minutes of ads.

    14AnonymousOct 4, 2026 13:29
They need revenue to keep the lights on, so running ads at all is fine — but do something about the quality.
"Must-see for guys who want it longer and thicker!", AI-generated-celebrity investment scam ads, scammy products babbling about "patented technology developed by Such-and-Such University" — none of it's any good.
Even the ads for normal games and apps are these long ones designed to bait a mis-tap and dump you into the store.
Raise the quality of what you run and put out more short ones.

I thought the old banners that moved a little under the video were fine. Those didn't get in the way, and I'd click if something caught my eye. But I hate how intrusive today's ads are, so full ad-block for me now.

It's only worth anything for specific YouTubers, pinpoint at best.
Also, the ads you get change based on the type of videos you watch.
Get flagged as "low-tier" and it's nothing but low-tier ads; get flagged as "upscale" and you get upscale-targeted ads.
Back in the day even random channels would get big-name ads, but once major brands started objecting to showing up next to controversy-bait content, YouTube started properly controlling that targeting.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

YouTube has been gradually escalating warning displays for ad-blocker users since around 2023, and the “final warning” reported here looks like an extension of that trend. The thread split along two lines: frustration at the ads themselves, and frustration at people who refuse to pay. The majority view slammed long-form ads and scam-like ad content, while a sizable contingent — generally siding with Premium subscribers — argued “it’s the freeloaders’ own fault.” Some also pointed out that ad quality differs between phone and TV, apparently because YouTube varies which ads it serves depending on the viewing environment and assumed audience, though the thread reached no firm consensus on this. Worth noting: as of this writing there’s no official confirmation of exactly how far “banned from access” would actually be applied.

  • Your Balls Absorb Toner 7x Better Than Your Face? 5ch Debates Whether to Actually Care for Them

A thread on 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyo G” board blew up over the claim that the skin on your scrotum absorbs toner seven times better than your face. Transdermal absorption rates vary wildly by body part, and the scrotum — known for its thin skin — has long been recognized in pharmaceutical research as a high-absorption site. Posters split over whether the “7x” figure actually applied to cosmetic toner or to drug-absorption studies, with some regretting years of skipped skincare, others debating just how far scrotal moisturizing should go, and the thread eventually derailing into speculation about rubbing minoxidil on your balls.

Dermatology has long recognized that transdermal absorption rates vary dramatically by body part, and because the scrotum has a notably thin stratum corneum, older pharmaceutical and hormone-drug research has shown it to be a site of unusually high absorption. The “7 times the face” figure that spread through the thread appears to trace back to drug-absorption studies rather than any test of cosmetic toner’s moisturizing effect, meaning it isn’t actually a number that guarantees toner itself works any better there. Posters disagreed over whether the figure was really about medication or about cosmetics, pitting those enthusiastic about scrotal moisturizing against those who found the whole idea instinctively off-putting. One point the thread never addressed: if you actually try this, you’d need to avoid harsh or irritating ingredients — a different consideration than ordinary skincare.

  • How Often Should You Get a Haircut? 5ch Users Split Between “Once a Month” and “Once Every 4 Months” Camps

A poll-style thread on 5ch’s Hello! Project board asked, “How often do you guys get your hair cut?” Answers ranged widely, from once every three weeks to once every four months, and replies split over whether the “once a month is normal” camp or the “once every 3-4 months is plenty” camp was more common. Some posts cited Recruit’s 2025 Beauty Census (an annual salon-industry survey), noting that visit frequency tends to rise with age. Differences tied to hair type and style — from shaved heads to naturally curly hair — also became a talking point.

    50AnonymousOct 4, 2026 11:58
There's a barber near my place that gives you a discount if you come back within a month, so I go once a month

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

There’s no single “correct” answer for how often to visit a hair salon or barbershop, and not realizing that is exactly what makes claims like “once a month is normal” and “every three months is plenty” talk past each other. Recruit’s 2025 Beauty Census, cited in the thread, shows that visit frequency tends to rise with age, suggesting that differences in generation, hairstyle, and hair type are what drive the gap. What split the thread was whether the “once a month” camp or the “once every 3-4 months” camp was actually the majority — people maintaining short, business-appropriate styles tend to cut more often, while those who aren’t fussy about length, or whose hair type and style differ (curly hair, shaved heads, etc.), tend to go longer between visits. Since Recruit’s survey itself is primary data reflecting real salon usage, it’s worth noting that it fills in age-based trends that impressions from the thread alone wouldn’t reveal.

  • Murakami Shoji Mistakes Rookie Momoha Nagano for Sayumi Michishige — 5ch: ‘Are We All Just Missing Chayu?’

During a live broadcast in the ‘Sanma no Manma’ radio lineup, Hello! Project newcomer Momoha Nagano appeared as a guest. When comedian Shoji Murakami glanced at her profile, he briefly mistook her for former Morning Musume leader Sayumi Michishige, as though she’d made a comeback — and the moment became a hot topic on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. Michishige, known for her catchphrase ‘Sasuga!’ (‘As expected!’), graduated from the group in 2014. The thread was topped by a reply reading ‘Are we having Chayu withdrawal?’ (using Michishige’s nickname ‘Chayu’), with opinions split over whether Nagano really resembles Michishige, and how she stacks up against other members who’ve drawn the same comparison in the past.

    — You have such a wide range of skills for someone so new to the industry. Is that the result of effort we don't get to see?
Nagano: I have a strong image in my head of 'the kind of idol I want to be.' I'm particular about that, and I'm trial-and-erroring my way toward it every day. Personally, I still feel like I have a long way to go.

    — We'd love to hear about that ideal idol image.
Nagano: I guess it's an idol who lets fans enjoy themselves with genuine, honest feelings. And I want people to watch that growth process too. I look up to two of my Hello! Sayumi Michishige actually loved pink since she was little, but when she first joined Morning Musume, she got stuck as the yellow member.

The moment her pink-member senior graduated, she instantly evolved into the pink member.
Maybe Momoha Nagano is going to walk the exact same path as Sayumi Michishige.
    53AnonymousOct 4, 2026 10:42
Chayu (Michishige) publicly declared at her graduation concert that she was passing the pink down — so Mochi should do the same.

Neither Tamenaga nor Shimoitani really has a 'pink' kind of character anyway, but I guess it can't be helped — that's just how the cards fell.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Sayumi Michishige joined Morning Musume in 2003 and later served as its leader, a popular member known for her catchphrase ‘Sasuga!’ (‘As expected!’) and her distinctive aura. More than ten years have passed since her 2014 graduation, but as this thread’s reactions show, she remains a Hello! Project senior whom newcomers are still readily compared to. In an interview, Momoha Nagano herself named Michishige and Momoko Tsugunaga as idols she looks up to, suggesting she may be consciously channeling that vibe — meaning Murakami’s momentary mix-up wasn’t simply a random error, but overlapped to some degree with Nagano’s own intent. At the same time, commenters in the thread pointed out that the claimed resemblance rests on limited factors like camera angle and makeup, and that other members have been compared to Michishige in the same way before — suggesting the debate says less about any one member’s actual resemblance than about just how powerful and long-lasting Michishige’s image remains across generations.

  • “Halo Shop” Tokyo Store Reopening Stuck in “Planning” for a Year — 5ch: “The Broke-Ass Agency Can’t Even Afford Rent”

It’s been almost a year since Hello! Project’s official goods store “Hello! Shop” announced that a new Tokyo store was “being planned at a new location.” The chain originally closed stores like the Akihabara/Suehirocho location due to high rent and shifted to mail order, leaving fans with a mix of hope and frustration about a possible comeback. On 5ch, while names like Ikebukuro, Akabane, and Gotanda were floated as possible relocation sites, the thread devolved into an argument over whether operating company Up-Front’s Takanawa studio is a company-owned building or a rental (leasehold) — complete with a fact-checking battle citing real estate listings and land price data.

They said it was “in the planning stages” a year ago already.

    >Regarding the new store in Tokyo, we are aiming to create

    >a space fans will love for years to come, and are currently planning

    >to open it at a new location.

Back when the Tokyo store closed, even the Osaka store was a ghost town with barely anything to sell — but it feels like they've bounced back with more merchandise since then.
This might be the last chance for a reopening.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

“Hello! Shop” has a history of closing stores one after another — including the Akihabara/Suehirocho location — due to soaring rent, shifting its focus to mail order. It was roughly a year ago that the company officially announced it was “planning” a new Tokyo store, and this thread began with fans questioning why there’s been no progress since. The thread split over whether operating company Up-Front’s Takanawa studio counts as a “company-owned building” or a “rental.” Some posters cited a real estate industry website as proof it’s company-owned, while others pointed out the land itself may be leased, arguing that owning the building and holding a leasehold on the land are two separate things. It’s worth noting that the fragmentary information in the thread can’t definitively settle the operating company’s actual real estate situation, and much of this remains speculation. Candidate relocation sites floated included Ikebukuro, Akabane, Gotanda, and Kameari, but these too are just individual posters’ guesses.

  • Kobe’s ¥1,100-a-Night Flophouse: 5ch Says ‘I’d Need ¥20,000 Just to Consider It’

A photo of a room at the “Sanwa Hotel” in Shinkaichi, Hyogo Ward, Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture, sparked a thread on 5ch. The bare-bones lodging house offers a room of roughly one tatami mat in size, furnished with nothing but a futon and a small TV stand, starting from just ¥1,100 a night. The thread saw a flurry of reactions weighing cheapness against livability — mentions that Nishinari’s flophouses start from ¥500, price comparisons with internet cafés, and worries about bugs and smells. Some users even wondered aloud whether the photo was AI-generated, splitting opinion.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Simple lodging houses (commonly called “doya”) are a style of accommodation concentrated in old laborer districts like Shinkaichi and Nishinari, originally developed as cheap lodging for day laborers. Today they also serve as a safety net for low-income people and those without stable housing, and the thread’s observation that “internet cafés now require ID, so people who can’t use those end up here” reflects that background. Within the thread there was also discussion scrutinizing the photo’s authenticity and timing (based on the magazine issue dates, the TV model, etc.), but the only verifiable details are the Sanwa Hotel address and the ¥1,100 price given by the original poster — whether it’s actually “the cheapest hotel in Japan,” as the thread title claims, was never confirmed. Reactions largely centered on weighing the rock-bottom price against concerns over hygiene and safety, with differing views on just how viable an option a place like this really is.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hallyu/Hello! Project board) thread “This is a room at the cheapest hotel in Japan, where you can stay for ¥1,000 a night.”

  • Did America Ever Have a World-Class Rock Band? 5ch Debates: ‘It’s Like Comparing Everyone to Shohei Ohtani’

A provocative thread title — “UK: ‘The Beatles! The Stones! Zeppelin! Zeppelin! Deep Purple!’ America: ‘Uh… um…’” — sparked a US-vs-UK rock debate in 5ch’s Nandemo Jikkyo (Live Commentary) discussion group. Names like Bon Jovi, Metallica, and the Eagles got floated, only to be shot down over their Billboard track records or musical style. The talk expanded to cover the roots of American music — blues, country, and 1950s rock pioneers like Chuck Berry — with the central question becoming “Did America really ever have anyone on the Beatles’ level?” Things eventually veered off course near the end into a tangent about global IP revenue rankings.

Bowie came along later chronologically, and his era overlaps with when American music started getting more aggressive/dominant, so he just doesn't leave as strong an impression.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

In response to the provocative thread title “The UK churned out world-famous rock bands, but what about America?”, replies pointed out that this isn’t a simple comparison — it’s more a mismatch of eras and genres. The gist: in the ’60s and ’70s, the UK led the rock scene with the Beatles and the Stones, while America at the same time leaned more toward soul, country, and folk, giving it a less distinctly “rock” face. It was also noted that 1950s American rock pioneers like Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly directly influenced the later British bands, so the story isn’t simply “America had nobody.” The late tangent into global IP revenue rankings is a side conversation that drifts from the main topic — the figures are claims made within the 5ch thread and haven’t been independently verified. A point readers might easily misread: the thread isn’t concluding that “America lacks talent,” but rather discussing a mismatch in genre timing.

*This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Nandemo Jikkyo G) thread “UK: ‘The Beatles! The Stones! Zeppelin! Deep Purple!’ America: ‘Uh…’ ← this one.”

  • Is Initial D Just Low-Class Trash? 5ch: ‘Those Cars Were Dirt Cheap Back Then’

A thread titled “Isn’t Initial D kind of lame with how low-class it feels?” went up in 5ch’s Nanimo Jikkyo G (anything-goes live-commentary board), and replies piled up around the prices of the cars the series’ street racers drive and how much their mods would’ve cost. The first half of the thread started from the question “where’s the money for modding a car even coming from?” before turning into a back-and-forth of specific numbers about what the used car market actually looked like around 2000, when the series began serialization. Posters swapped personal stories about buying the pricey cars from the show — the 34 GT-R, the FD, the Silvia — for just a few hundred thousand yen, clashing with others insisting they must have cost millions. In the end, the thread caught fire less over whether the characters were “low-class” and more over correcting each other’s fuzzy memories of the market.

    Re: #50
A nice-condition GT-R or the latest Lancer Evo would run you 3 million yen even back then, but I don't think any of the racers in the story besides the Takahashi brothers and Nakazato actually bought cars like that
Everyone else picked up their base cars for a few hundred thousand yen, or just over a million at most

Cars like that go for 5 million yen now, but
back then you could get one for 100,000 yen or even free
so even part-timers and NEETs could afford to play around with them
in a way, that's actually realistic

How is that misinformation allowed to stand
    They're high-demand enthusiast cars

    A beat-up S13 was exactly like that
It was such a huge hit when new that there were plenty of them around
and 7-8 years later the used price dropped to next to nothing
by then everyone wanted an S14 or S15 instead
    77AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:29
I got my used EG6 (Honda Civic SiR) on the road for about 600,000 yen too
Gas could get as cheap as the 70-yen-a-liter range back then

    Re: #77
    A new EG6 cost around 1.8 million yen…

Background and Key Points of This Debate

Initial D ran as a manga from 1995 to 2013, and in-story details — like the appearance of the Honda S2000 — suggest the story is set around the year 2000. The reason price perceptions clashed so hard in the thread comes down to how wildly the used market for Japanese sports cars has swung over time. From the late ’90s through the early 2000s, sports cars that had just gone out of production flooded the market and crashed in value, so it wasn’t unusual to find these models going for a few hundred thousand yen. In recent years, though, a boom in classic-car popularity has sent the same models soaring into the millions. That gap meant posters arguing from “today’s market sense” and posters arguing from “the market sense of back then” kept talking past each other. In the end, the thread’s real point of contention wasn’t whether the characters counted as “low-class,” but how to read this gap between generations.

  • Is 5ch’s ‘Nandemo Jikkyo’ Crowd Mostly Mid-40s? The ‘Value Zone (lol)’ Debate

In a chat thread on 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyo” board, idle chatter flowed from one topic to the next — Hanshin Tigers pitcher Morishita winning three pennants in his four years with the team, the everyday annoyance of not being able to find beef tallow at the supermarket, and figures of Kasane Teto. Amid all this, a post claiming “the value zone of this thread is probably guys in their mid-40s” got pasted twice, drawing replies pointing out “you mean volume zone, don’t you” — sparking a small flare-up of back-and-forth over the thread’s age demographic.

    102AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:02

    Background and Key Points

“Value zone” is originally a marketing term for the price range that sells best within a given product category, and it’s easily confused with the similar-sounding “volume zone.” In the thread, the term was pasted twice to poke fun at the posters’ age bracket, prompting replies suggesting it was likely “just a mix-up” with “volume zone.” That said, there’s no objective data on the thread’s actual age demographics — it was simply a self-reported joke repeated for effect. There’s also a post claiming Hanshin pitcher Morishita has won three pennants in his four years with the team, but it gives no specific years or detailed stats — it’s a loose remark that just links his tenure to the team’s championship record. This kind of freewheeling “Nandemo Jikkyo” chat thread is characterized less by digging deep into any one topic than by a steady stream of disconnected bits — baseball, figures, shortages of everyday goods — and this thread is a typical example of that format.
