  • RTX 5060 Price Drops to a Record-Low ¥75,000, Sparking a GPU Tier-Ranking Debate on 5ch

NVIDIA’s entry-level GPU, the RTX 5060, has quietly dropped to a record-low price of ¥75,000, sparking discussion on 5ch’s “Hardware/Industry (Geha)” board. Rather than the price itself, the thread’s debate centered on where to draw the line between entry-level, mid-range, and high-end GPUs — with some arguing the RTX 5060 Ti and above should count as mid-range, and others pointing out the problem that NVIDIA’s only model below the 5060 is the 5050. The discussion also expanded into comparisons with home game consoles, contrasting the PS5’s GPU performance and the unreleased PS6’s projected specs against AMD GPUs.

What are we even gonna do about this?
    4AnonymousOct 4, 2026 21:58
Wild that #2 and #4 on the GPU ranking are both over ¥1 million.
You guys are spending way too much money on gaming.

    Re: #4
The ones over ¥1 million are honestly just sitting unsold most of the time.
But every once in a while Dospara drops one for like ¥890,000 and it sells out instantly.
The 5090 really is on a different level.

Sure it runs them, but it's not the kind of performance you'd buy new right now.
    10AnonymousOct 4, 2026 22:11
    For 1080p this is plenty.
Once you get into WQHD or heavy 4K titles, the price jumps way up.
The 5090's crazy pricing is because AI folks are buying them up, not gamers.
    22AnonymousOct 4, 2026 22:42

Recent demanding games want 12GB of VRAM even for the minimum 1080p spec.
    15AnonymousOct 4, 2026 22:27
Unlike the 4060, it's loud, it runs hot, and on top of that it's weak.
Even on the Steam hardware survey it ranks below the 3060 and 4060 — total trash.

    Re: #15
The 5060's performance-per-watt is actually good,
so if you power-limit it, it ends up both more powerful and more efficient than the 4060 — a straight upgrade across the board.

    There's no strict definition of "entry-level" vs "mid-range" anyway…
In my head, the 5060 Ti counts as mid-range

The PS6 is expected to land somewhere around a 5070 or 5070 Ti.

AMD's own RX 9070 XT does 48.7 TFLOPS.

    83AnonymousOct 5, 2026 00:01
    Re: #81
It depends more on the quality settings than the resolution.
With 8GB you can even run Wilds at 4K with ray tracing on and high settings.
Even that still performs better than the PS5 Pro.
    86AnonymousOct 5, 2026 00:04
    Re: #81
Take Resident Evil 4's PC version as an example.
It's not even that demanding a game by PC standards.
But even RE4 eats up over 10GB of VRAM at max quality in 1080p.
And that's with ray tracing turned off, by the way.

Of course, it's PC, so you don't have to run max quality — you can always tune settings down…
But personally, I'd want at least 12GB to play comfortably, ideally 16.
    92AnonymousOct 5, 2026 00:09
    Re: #81
With a 5060 you'd be running medium settings anyway, so it's fine.
Besides, RAM prices are the biggest driver of cost increases right now,
so this isn't really the time to pick "more RAM, just in case" as a nice-to-have bonus — just think of it as: paying the price difference gets you better visuals, and that's enough.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

The GPU categories “entry-level,” “mid-range,” and “high-end” aren’t official designations from NVIDIA — they’re just convenient labels users apply based on performance and price. Because of this, the actual performance range behind the same label shifts with every generation, which is why debates like this one keep recurring. The TFLOPS (theoretical compute performance) figures used for comparison in the thread also aren’t a metric that allows simple comparisons between GPUs of different architectures, and this caveat tends to get overlooked when people line up the PS5 or the unreleased PS6 against the RTX series. As for the soaring prices of flagship models, that’s largely attributed to demand from generative AI, which is creating a pricing dynamic separate from gaming demand — a factor worth considering separately from trends in gamer demand.

  • Ryza’s Thighs Get Even Thicker in New Art — 5ch Reacts: “Too Thick, It’s Gross”

Ryza, the poster character of Koei Tecmo’s popular Atelier series, has become a hot topic on 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (Geha) board after her thighs were drawn even thicker in the latest artwork and the official AI chat service. Some in the thread pushed back with comments like “too thick, it’s gross,” while others defended it as “just part of the character’s identity,” drawing comparisons to 2B from NieR: Automata as another case where the character design alone carries all the popularity. Many also pointed out the contradiction of marketing such a risqué body type while heavily censoring expression within the AI chat itself, with some posts tying this back to the poor performance of the follow-up title, Yumia.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Ryza, the poster character of the Atelier series, has drawn attention for her thigh-emphasized design ever since the very first game, and that tendency has only grown stronger with each sequel. This time, the spark was that her proportions were exaggerated even further in the official AI chat service and new artwork. In the thread, some drew a parallel with NieR: Automata’s 2B — another case where the character design alone drives popularity while the actual game tends to get somewhat overshadowed. Others pointed out that marketing such a risqué body type while strictly censoring expression within the AI chat exposes a gap between the publisher’s marketing approach and user expectations, a discussion that, combined with talk of the struggling follow-up title Yumia, brought renewed attention to the series’ ongoing over-reliance on its characters.

  • FE Official Poll: Engage Camp Takes Early Lead — Three Houses Fans Cry Foul

In the official Fire Emblem series popularity poll, the latest title “Engage” camp posted a score far ahead of the “Three Houses” camp in the first round of tallying — and it became a hot topic on 5ch’s Hardware & Industry board (Geha). Because the poll’s scoring multiplier shifts to give the trailing side a correction boost, opinions in the thread split over which numbers actually reflect “popularity.” Posters shared first-round totals showing the Engage side at roughly 8.24 million points combined versus the Three Houses side at roughly 3.42 million, and the debate spread between fans of both games.

    13AnonymousOct 4, 2026 15:52
Vote battles are a game where the multiplier keeps shifting,
so the only part that reflects actual popularity is the opening tally.
    14AnonymousOct 4, 2026 15:54
The FE-complex crowd hasn't actually played it (an 'air-player,' 5ch slang for talking about a game without having played it), so they don't get it, but — in vote battles the more popular side can actually end up losing.
Isn't this a first-ever win for 'Egachan' (comedian Egashira 2:50, internet shorthand for someone famously unlucky)?
    15AnonymousOct 4, 2026 15:55
Three Houses already had strong character popularity to begin with, while Engage (punned here as 'ten-thousand deaths') crammed in way too many characters and came out thin across the board — no way it was winning this.
    16AnonymousOct 4, 2026 15:57
By the way, here's the opening tally — if it's really about popularity, this is what counts, so Re: #1 is just embarrassing themselves.

    18AnonymousOct 4, 2026 16:00
Just so it's clear: the opening tally is fair, but from round two onward the multiplier shifts with the score and buffs whoever's losing.
So if you want to see real popularity, it's the opening score, not the final result.

By the way, a lot of people giving ⭐5 on Amazon write nothing but complaints in the review text itself.
At this rate the bar just keeps dropping — pretty soon even a 50-point game gets ⭐5 'high praise.'

    Re: #100
Not sure if FE fans even realize it, but
Three Houses is popular on a whole different level.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

What this thread is reacting to is an official Fire Emblem popularity-poll event built with a mechanism where the scoring multiplier shifts to give a correction boost to whichever side is trailing. As pointed out in replies 16 and 18, looking only at the final results makes it seem like the “Three Houses” camp staged a comeback, but many posters argued that a fair comparison can only be made using the opening scores, before the multiplier correction kicks in. According to the opening tally posted in reply 29, the Engage (“Myriad Hues”) camp totaled roughly 8.24 million points combined, versus roughly 3.42 million for the Three Houses camp — and this is what’s behind the “total defeat” framing. On the other hand, some pushed back, arguing that Three Houses, having been out for years, has already built up an entrenched fanbase, making a straight comparison with the freshly released Engage camp inherently unfair — so the thread split over which number should count as the real measure of “popularity.” As of this article, no final results or official announcement for the poll event itself have been released.

  • Akio Otsuka: “I Don’t Want to Do a Metal Gear Without Director Kojima”

Voice actor Akio Otsuka’s comment in a Bunshun interview that he “doesn’t want to do a Metal Gear that Director Kojima isn’t involved with” became a hot topic on 5ch’s Hardware/Industry board (Geha). Otsuka has long voiced Snake in the Metal Gear Solid series, which Konami has kept going with titles like Metal Gear Survive even after creator Hideo Kojima left the company. The thread spiraled into a debate over whether an IP belongs to the individual creator or the company, with crossfire opinions on Peace Walker, MGSV, and Kojima’s work in general.

Otsuka: Basically, for us voice actors, the job is to do it when we’re asked. But when it comes to the Metal Gear series, it was Director Kojima who created it, and I take pride in having helped build it alongside him. That’s why I said, “I don’t want to do a Metal Gear that Director Kojima isn’t involved with.” Now that I’ve said it, I can’t really walk it back (laughs).

    Grandpa, it's bedtime now.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Akio Otsuka has voiced Snake since 1998’s Metal Gear Solid and has worked alongside Hideo Kojima for many years. Kojima clashed with Konami and left the company in 2015, and now runs an independent studio producing titles such as Death Stranding. Konami has kept the series going even after Kojima’s departure, releasing Metal Gear Survive among others, and Otsuka’s remark should be read against that backdrop. What split the thread was the question of whether an IP belongs to the production company or to the original creator personally, with comparisons drawn to IP ownership in other media like manga. At the same time, there was friction between those who dismiss the Peace Walker and Metal Gear Solid V scenarios as unnecessary “tacked-on” content and those who defend them — a split in how fans themselves rate Kojima’s work that isn’t easy to grasp from the quoted remarks alone.

  • PS5 Production to End by March 2027 — 5ch: “There’s No Going Back to the PS4’s Slow Load Times”

Sony Interactive Entertainment announced on October 4 that it will wind down production of the PlayStation 5 lineup (standard model and Digital Edition) by the end of March 2027. Production volumes have already begun stepping down in some regions, and sales themselves are expected to end once remaining stock runs out. On 5ch, many users shared how much they’d felt the leap in performance since the PS4, while discussion also drifted toward speculation about the next-gen PS6’s specs and price, with opinions split over how much of a price hike to expect relative to the current PS5 Pro.

The models affected are the standard PlayStation 5 and the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition. Production volumes have already been scaled back step by step in some regions, and sales are expected to end once market stock is depleted.

The 'd' version feels more settled (likely a joke about rounding price digits, continuing the earlier thread about trimming a trailing digit from price guesses)

Background and Key Points of This Topic

The PS5 launched in 2020, and including Pro models, the production cycle for home consoles is generally considered to run about 6 to 7 years. This announcement applies to the standard model and the Digital Edition, and as the phrasing “winding down” and “sales will end once stock runs out” suggests, it’s easy to misread this as the console vanishing from stores the moment the announcement dropped — it won’t. What divided the thread was speculation over the PS6’s price: with the current PS5 Pro priced around 140,000 yen as a baseline, many guessed somewhere in the upper 100,000s to 160,000 yen range, reflecting a shared assumption that price hikes are unavoidable for the next generation given semiconductor costs and exchange rates. Worth noting, though: the dramatic difference in load times people describe between the PS4 and PS5 generations owes more to the shift in storage method (from HDD to SSD) than to raw hardware power alone.

  • Report: Konami and Square Enix Both Reportedly Reached Out to Nagoshi — 5ch Split Down the Middle

In the gaming industry, leaked information claiming that both Konami and Square Enix had reached out to Toshihiro Nagoshi set off a buzz on 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (“Geha”) board. It started with a post saying “apparently there was a dinner meeting,” and speculation spread with no confirmation either way. On the thread, opinions flew in every direction: whether Konami, which has a history of pushing out Hideo Kojima, would really want Nagoshi now; whether it even makes sense to bring him on at 61 given his age and health; and whether the real target is actually the staff from his former production company rather than Nagoshi himself. At the same time, plenty of lighthearted banter played on the “Like a ___” naming convention from his games, mixing serious industry analysis with pure joke posts.

    Re: #111
Even though it was "his own company," he was still just an employee at the end of the day — once he got cut loose, that was it.

Background and Key Points of This Story

Toshihiro Nagoshi is known for the Like a Dragon (Yakuza) series, and he left to launch his own company, Nagoshi Studio, in 2023. Konami, meanwhile, effectively pushed Hideo Kojima out back in 2015, which is why this story keeps getting tied back to that memory. The thread split over two main points: whether it’s worth investing in Nagoshi himself given his age and health concerns, and whether the real goal is actually to secure staff from his former production company rather than Nagoshi himself. It’s also worth noting that the dinner meeting and the contact itself come from unverified leaked information about which company is doing what under what terms — the specific figures being thrown around are just speculation within the thread, and no company has made any official announcement.

  • PS5 Version of Forza Horizon 6 Still Has No Release Date in October — 5ch: ‘It Needs 20GB of Memory, You Know?’

Even as October 2026 rolls on, the PS5 version of Forza Horizon 6 still has no announced release date. On 5ch’s hardware/industry (“Geha”) board, a thread that started with doubts about the PS5’s power and memory requirements spiraled into debate over the series’ sales performance on Steam, and even the balance of power between Xbox and PlayStation. More than the missing release date itself, posters were divided over the reasons behind the series’ push into multiplatform release.

Then never open this thread again either

Background and Key Points of Debate

The Forza Horizon series has traditionally centered on Xbox and PC, but in recent years Microsoft has been pushing its major titles toward multiplatform releases, and this PS5 version fits that trend. The thread weighed the series’ standing based on PS5 hardware requirements and Steam sales figures, but since tracking methods differ by platform, it’s hard to judge the series’ overall performance from Steam numbers alone. Some comments about the reasoning behind the business decisions also included unverified rumors about the internal circumstances of a departed executive, so this article leaves out those unsubstantiated personal claims. As for the claim that review scores differ by country, the sample and timeframe weren’t specified, so that shouldn’t be taken as a blanket generalization.

  • New FF7 Title: PS5 Pre-orders Reportedly Outpacing Switch 2’s, Fueling Doubts Over the Simultaneous Multiplatform Launch

A post claiming that PS5 pre-orders for Final Fantasy VII Revelation are outpacing Switch 2 pre-orders on Amazon sparked discussion on 5ch’s hardware/industry board (Geha). Posters in the thread questioned the point of releasing simultaneously on both platforms, citing differences in digital download ratios between the two consoles and Square Enix’s broader shift toward multiplatform releases for all its titles following a change in management. Others pushed back, noting that sales rankings by platform have shifted well after launch for past titles, arguing it’s premature to call a winner based on early numbers alone — opinions remained split.

If you factor in digital downloads, I'd bet Trails 2nd is selling way better on PS5, by a wide margin.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

The figures quoted in the thread come from Amazon’s bestseller ranking — “units purchased in the past month” — not official pre-order numbers released by the publisher or a market research firm, which is worth keeping in mind. It’s also been reported that Switch 2 third-party titles tend to have lower digital download ratios than on other platforms, around 20% for Resident Evil Requiem and about 24% for Cyberpunk 2077. Square Enix has shifted toward multiplatform releases — even for new titles that previously leaned Switch-focused — following a change in its management structure, and this simultaneous release appears to be part of that broader trend. At the same time, titles like Xenoblade 3 have seen sales grow well after launch, so some argue it’s too early to declare a platform “winner” based on initial pre-order figures alone.

  • PSN Account Hijacking Scheme Exposed: Attackers Exploiting Support Desk Loophole

According to overseas outlet Push Square, “RealRadec,” a prominent PlayStation fan with over 30,000 followers on X (formerly Twitter), had their PSN account hijacked. The information used to verify identity reportedly amounted to little more than a username, purchase date, and transaction ID — details easily guessable from social media posts and trophy histories. On 5ch’s hardware/industry (Gaha) board, opinions split over whether this was due to lax identity verification at Sony’s support desk, or something that could happen on any platform.

Overnight, RealRadec — a prominent fan known for positive engagement with the community and over 30,000 followers on X — became the latest victim of Sony’s poor security.

For anyone who missed the last piece of news — and this part really matters — it turns out an account can be hacked using nothing more than a handful of publicly available details:

The same logic applies to early-game trophy dates — they can be used to estimate the purchase date too. 40AnonymousOct 4, 2026 12:33
Re: #32 The main Sony corporate account should be fine — they probably just unified the login entry point while keeping the backend separate. If they weren't separate, Sony would have to put out a press release every time PSN leaks data. PSN didn't leak much back in the SCE days, but ever since it became SIE, there's been leak after leak.
    42AnonymousOct 4, 2026 12:35

Re: #42 Pointless, pointless. In this case, the victim had 2FA and passkey auth set up perfectly and still got hit. If this happened to Nintendo Switch Online, it'd be a massive flame war. But with PSN, all anyone thinks is 'here we go again.' In a weird way, that makes them untouchable.
    66AnonymousOct 4, 2026 12:52
Re: #62 People do leave PlayStation, though. After that 100-million-scale personal info leak, people left in droves and 'never register your credit card with PS' became common wisdom — that's probably why their active user numbers are so low. Wasn't there also that thing where a PS5 'master key' got stolen? Preventing that from being exploited would basically require a physical part replacement, so it's not really fixable — honestly, just not engaging with Sony at all is the safest countermeasure.

    73AnonymousOct 4, 2026 13:02
Re: #67 Apparently the attack works like this: contact support claiming some accident happened and you can't log in normally → support verifies your identity and opens the door for the hacker (the impersonation succeeds during support's identity check, breaking through security) → account takeover complete. Something like that. The PSN 'transaction ID' is apparently kind of like a receipt number — not something people think to actively hide. I guess some people just post their purchase history on social media themselves, like 'hey, I bought this game!'
    69AnonymousOct 4, 2026 12:56
There's no way to even know your own transaction ID if your account has a passkey or 2FA set up — you can't even get to that confirmation screen.
    74AnonymousOct 4, 2026 13:03
Re: #69 It says 'transaction ID or purchase date,' so if you tell support you don't know the transaction ID, they'll probably just ask when you bought it. And the purchase date is usually right around (or a bit before) the date of your first trophy, so you'd guess right a good chunk of the time.
    78AnonymousOct 4, 2026 13:09
Re: #74 Yeah, fair enough. You wouldn't normally tell someone who contacted support because they can't log in to 'just log in and check your transaction number.' So if you get the purchase date right, you can just say 'oh, I already deleted the order email' and breeze right through?
    88AnonymousOct 4, 2026 13:16
Re: #78 Even if you can't log into your account, the order confirmation email you get when you buy a game also has the transaction number in it. 'I can't log in so I don't know' doesn't really fly.
    93AnonymousOct 4, 2026 13:25
If you can pass verification with just the purchase date, then for any new release you could basically just say the launch date and pass almost every time. Calling that proper identity verification isn't just lax — it's a whole different level of broken.
    99AnonymousOct 4, 2026 13:41
Re: #93 That's exactly the point — it's so lax that it's dangerous.

    Background and Points of Debate

PSN has history here: SCE (as it was known then) caused a massive personal data breach back in 2011, and that prior record keeps getting cited in the thread. What makes this method different from a typical password leak is that even with 2FA or a passkey set up, it can be bypassed if the support desk’s identity verification is defeated — meaning user-side precautions alone can’t fully prevent it. Since the purchase dates and transaction IDs used for verification can be inferred from social media purchase announcements or trophy unlock dates, even information users think is private can still serve as a clue for guessing. The thread is split between those who argue Nintendo and Microsoft must be just as vulnerable to this kind of attack, and those who say that since reported cases are concentrated on Sony, the problem lies specifically with its support system. No concrete proposal for fixing the identity verification process has emerged.

  • Item Loss Mechanic Divides Opinion: 5ch Says ‘The Push-or-Retreat Dilemma Is the Fun Part’

A thread was started by a player who bought Shiren the Wanderer 6, praising the improved UI and overall controls while complaining that old-school mechanics — “item loss” (losing your gear when you die) and no-item-bring-in dungeons — remain completely untouched. This set off a clash between defenders arguing that “the loss mechanic is exactly what creates the fun push-or-retreat dilemma,” and critics countering that an abundance of absurdly overpowered, practically-free-to-exploit monsters has turned the game into a luck-fest. The debate spiraled out into the series’ entire design philosophy. Some posters also noted this entry is the best-selling in the series’ history, which raised the separate question of whether opinions on the mechanics and commercial success necessarily line up.

    1AnonymousOct 4, 2026 10:32
Bought a Shiren game for the first time in ages — the UI and systems have come a long way and it's way more convenient now, the "Reiwa-era" parts are great.
But the unnecessary "Heisei-era" leftovers like item loss and no-bring-in dungeons haven't changed one bit.
    2AnonymousOct 4, 2026 10:33
If you want to play Shiren 3, go dig up a Wii U.
    6AnonymousOct 4, 2026 10:41
Torneko and Shiren games have always been full of garbage monsters that spit in your face with cheat-level abilities the more seriously you engage with them.
So many of their abilities are basically free hits — it's a luck-based game at that point.
It's ridiculous there's no free-save option given that.

Item loss is exactly what creates the fun "should I retreat or push forward" dilemma.
Without it, you'd just push forward until you die — there'd be no decision to make.
    24AnonymousOct 4, 2026 11:02
    Re: #12
That "retreat or push forward" feeling carries straight over to day trading or FX trading.
You should pick that up once the game stops scratching the itch.
    Pure dopamine, dopa-dopa.
    23AnonymousOct 4, 2026 11:02
The mindset of "this is just how these games are" is what's slowly killing the series off.
People who want to reset can just go do that themselves anyway.
If you could revive infinitely on the spot and your revive count got displayed at clear time, people could chase a zero-revive run on their own if they wanted.
The genre needs to drop the "this is just how it's done" dogma and show some flexibility.

That game you just "invented" — where you keep everything even after dying —

In the end it's the loudmouths who make developers misread the room, and that's exactly the same path that got shoot-em-ups and fighting games stuck with forever-long sequel gaps and poor sales.

Minimizing stress to the absolute limit, even at the cost of actual fun, is what Reiwa-era game design is about.
The Showa-era approach was suffering through hardship for a cathartic payoff at the end.
The Reiwa way is "if it's going to hurt, I'd rather skip the fun too."

    40AnonymousOct 4, 2026 11:22
No-bring-in dungeons are fine, but I've always thought item loss shouldn't apply in the bring-in-allowed ones.
The core fans barely touch bring-in-allowed mode anyway, right?
    43AnonymousOct 4, 2026 11:27
    Re: #40
The level tables are built at the core-system level, so making progress persist there would make it hard to stay consistent with the other modes.
If they actually did that, they'd basically need to build the content of two separate games.

But Shiren 6 is the series' long-awaited comeback, so give it a break already.
Just getting this far was already close to a miracle. This series always gets trampled by bandwagon newcomers the second it gets even a little popular.

Even if there's some relief measure, it doesn't apply to the no-bring-in, 99-floor "Even More Mysterious Dungeon," does it?

Shiren 3 really face-planted on that one.

By that logic Elden Ring is pathetically unpopular too, compared to GTA or Zelda!

…and that's exactly the point — there are games made for people with all kinds of different tastes, and naturally some of them won't click with you.
That doesn't mean you get to talk about it like it's a flaw in the game — it just isn't for you.
For its intended audience it's genuinely fun, and the parts "necessary for that fun" shouldn't be dumbed down to suit people it wasn't made for.
Do that, and you end up with a game that's fun for absolutely no one.

I don't get it, but fine — stretching it as far as humanly possible, no-bring-in dungeons can exist.
But if so, bump up the item drop rate.
And balance those free-hit-level cheat monsters.
Even watching skilled players stream it, the only move on floors crawling with broken monsters is dive straight down and run.
That right there is proof the gameplay options are too narrow.

    > I don't get it
Oh, so you actually do get it — that's the "knowing that you don't know" thing.
Given that a fair number of people can actually clear the no-bring-in runs,

    all this amounts to is:

"I personally don't have the skill to clear it using only what I pick up that run and my own judgment,"

and you're calling it a game flaw just because you don't want to admit it's your own lack of skill.
    102AnonymousOct 4, 2026 12:24
    Re: #78
    > Even watching skilled players stream it, the only move on floors crawling with broken monsters is dive straight down and run

Even so, 6 is actually an improvement here.
There's a "sumo stance" state now, so depending on your gear and level you can actually trade blows instead of just fleeing.
The previous games, 4 and 5, had a brutal nerf to natural HP regen at high HP —
once your level got high enough, standing still wouldn't heal you at all,
so all you could do was farm the shallow floors, build up your shield, and just run the entire way through the deep floors.
Bluntly put, leveling up actually slowed your regen rate, so there was no point leveling much,
and fighting enemies on the deep floors just drained your HP for nothing — zero reason to engage.
It was literally "nothing but running until you clear floor 99."
    90AnonymousOct 4, 2026 12:12
If you have the counter item you fight, and if you don't you just head down a floor — isn't that just how roguelikes work?

Like, Kengou, who knocks your equipment off — he's trivial if you have evasion or presence-sensing, but without it you want to clear his floor as fast as possible.

Are you saying that choice itself shouldn't even exist?
    104AnonymousOct 4, 2026 12:28
    Re: #90
The whole idea of trying to get the dopamine-chasing casual crowd to appreciate the game's fun in the first place is where it goes wrong.
You scatter some flashy bait just to get them to buy the game, let them go "whoaaa, I'm so OP!!!" for a bit, and send them on their way.
After that, you keep things so only the core users get to actually enjoy it.

In other words, the right mindset isn't "welcome them in" — it's "ride it out," the way you'd ride out a natural disaster.
    97AnonymousOct 4, 2026 12:16
If you want a mellow roguelike, why not just play Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon?
You can save on every single floor, so you're safe even if you mess up.

    Re: #97
    Seriously?
Can you actually save in that "Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon: Every Buddy!" one?

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Shiren the Wanderer 6 is a flagship title in the Mystery Dungeon-style roguelike genre, and the series has kept “item loss” — losing your items the moment you die once — as a consistent core mechanic since the original game in 1995. While 6 modernized the UI and overall systems, it left this loss mechanic and the no-bring-in dungeons intact, and that’s exactly where the thread’s conflict centers. Defenders frame the “retreat or push forward” dilemma as the very source of roguelike fun, while critics argue that a design unwilling to let players opt out of death-related risk feels outdated for a Reiwa-era user experience. This friction isn’t unique to Shiren the Wanderer — it mirrors a broader design-philosophy split playing out across recent games more generally, over whether to permit consequence-free death-and-retry or to impose a real penalty. Note that the claim of this being “the best-selling entry in the series’ history” was a single remark made within the thread, and this article does not treat it as independently verified. A point readers can easily misread is that criticism of the loss mechanic stems not from “player error” but from “the existence of unreasonably strong monsters that even expert players can’t avoid” — it isn’t simply criticism aimed at beginners.
