  • Which celebrities have vanished from TV lately? 5ch: “It’s sad seeing Hideki Takahashi doing shopping-channel ads”

A thread titled “Talents who’ve completely disappeared from TV” popped up on 5ch’s Hello! Project board, with names like Rola, Angerme, and Yakkun Sakurazuka coming up one after another. The discussion centered on how former stars have vanished from terrestrial TV while shifting their careers to CS/BS satellite shopping channels, citing Hideki Takahashi and the married couple Hayato Tani and Kikko Matsuoka as specific examples. For posts like the one about Panther Ogata — “He even had his own show on NHK, but then he just disappeared” — opinion was split on whether it came down to his own career choices or circumstances on the network’s side.

Background and key points of this discussion

Many of the celebrities people feel have “disappeared lately” haven’t actually retired or gone on hiatus — more often, they’ve simply shifted from terrestrial TV to shopping channels, cable TV, or regional-based work. Within the thread, names like Hideki Takahashi and the couple Hayato Tani and Kikko Matsuoka came up in connection with shopping channels, while Dainoji was cited as an example of a duo that relocated to Fukuoka to do regional revitalization work. On the other hand, with cases like Panther Ogata, it’s unclear whether the sudden drop in TV appearances comes down to his own choice to scale back or to circumstances on the network’s side, and opinions in the thread were split, with some pushing back that it “sounds like anti-fan bitterness.” Readers should be cautious about taking posts that flatly declare someone “blacklisted” at face value, since they’re mixed in with posts that simply attribute it to generational turnover or a shift in career focus.

  • Comedian Hanawa’s ‘secret order’ at Gyoza no Ohsho sparks ‘I had no idea’ reactions

In a YouTube video posted on September 21, comedian Hanawa ordered the “ryōmen-yaki” (seared on both sides) gyoza — a well-known “secret menu” order at the Chinese restaurant chain Gyoza no Ohsho — and the clip drew a big reaction. On the 5ch Geinou Sports Hōchi+ thread, some posters said they’d never heard of this ordering trick and wanted to try it themselves, while others said they didn’t notice any difference in taste, and still others pointed out differences in flavor and vegetable sourcing between Gyoza no Ohsho and the similarly named “Osaka Ohsho” chain — sparking a wider debate about the “Ohsho” chains.

Hanawa relishes gyoza ordered with a “secret technique” at Gyoza no Ohsho → reactions include “I didn’t know that” and “now I want to go”

Comedian Hanawa updated his official YouTube channel on September 21, placing a “secret order” for the gyoza — the signature dish of the Chinese restaurant chain Gyoza no Ohsho — and the video has been drawing a lot of attention.

The video shows him enjoying lunch at Gyoza no Ohsho together with his staff member Harley.

On "Tamori Club," they brought on a Chinese celebrity for a segment asking "Does Ohsho's order lingo actually work in Chinese?" — and it led to a shocking revelation.
According to the Chinese celebrity, "kōteru ryanga" or "ryanga kōteru" actually just means a single plate with two gyoza on it in real Chinese.
And the phrase often heard at Ohsho for ordering two servings as two separate plates — "ryanga ryante kōteru" or "kōteru ryanga ryante" — would, in actual Chinese, mean "two plates, each with two gyoza on it."
The Ohsho store manager was left speechless, but Tamori smoothly wrapped it up with "Well, I guess that just means it's not Chinese — it's Ohsho-speak."
Ironically, it also seems to have reassured viewers that "there's never been a single Chinese person involved in running Ohsho, then or now."

Background and key points of this discussion

“Ryōmen-yaki” (double-sided sear) and “yoku-yaki” (well-done) are long-known unofficial ordering options at Gyoza no Ohsho. Since they’re not on the official menu, how stores and staff respond varies. One fact that kept getting conflated in the thread and is easy to overlook: “Ohsho” (Gyoza no Ohsho, founded in Kyoto and run by Ohsho Food Service) and “Osaka Ohsho” (run by Eat&) are entirely separate companies with different ownership and capital, despite the similar names — which is exactly why opinions about taste and vegetable sourcing tend to get mixed up between the two. On vegetable origin labeling, posters also cited a report that Osaka Ohsho declined to answer a weekly magazine’s inquiry, hinting at interest in how transparent these chains are about sourcing. The thread’s opinions split over whether the double-sided sear genuinely makes the gyoza taste better — some felt a real difference, others noticed nothing at all. An episode from the TV show “Tamori Club” about ordering in Chinese also came up, with posters sharing the fun aside that Ohsho’s own term “kōteru ryanga” is used differently from how the phrase actually works in real Chinese.

  • Kano Eikou’s Confession of 154 Allergies Stuns 5ch: ‘All 154 of Them?’

Comedian Kano Eikou revealed on an October 3 radio broadcast that L’Arc-en-Ciel’s hyde had invited him out to eat. Kano is known for having one of the most severe allergy profiles in Japanese show business — at its peak, he tested positive for 154 different allergens — and hyde reportedly asked him, “Is Chinese food okay?” out of concern. The confession sparked debate on 5ch over how much allergy information diners should realistically disclose to restaurants. Some argued “there’s no way you can list all of that,” while others countered that “once you factor in cross-reactivity, confirming everything verbally is basically impossible” — reactions to the number 154 varied widely.

    Mon, Oct 5, 14:23

On Saturday, October 3, the radio program “Sandwichman the Radio Show Saturday” (Nippon Broadcasting, every Saturday 1-3 PM), hosted by comedy duo Sandwichman’s Date Mikio and Tomizawa Takeshi, aired as usual. With Date still out recovering, solo comedian Kano Eikou once again filled in as guest.

On the show, Kano revealed that he’d been invited out to eat by one of his idols, L’Arc-en-Ciel’s hyde. Kano, who has one of the most extreme allergy profiles in the entertainment industry — at his peak testing positive for a staggering 154 allergens — said hyde even asked him, “Is Chinese food okay for you?” out of concern.

Someone in my family has one — honestly it's a bit more manageable than a dairy or soy allergy.
Gluten-free has gotten trendy the last few years even among people without allergies,
so now you can get wheat-free frozen karaage and gyoza too. You can get by okay.

    Background and Points of Debate

Under Japan’s food labeling standards, only a handful of “specified raw materials” are legally required to be labeled, and that requirement mainly applies to packaged food — it doesn’t uniformly extend to menu labeling at restaurants. That leaves it largely up to the customer to figure out how much allergy information to communicate to a restaurant and get confirmed. On the thread, opinions split between those who felt “just ask” is good enough and those who argued that with 154 items, verbal confirmation simply isn’t realistic. That said, 154 is the total count of items that tested positive — the number that actually trigger severe symptoms when eaten is likely much smaller. The fact that a big number doesn’t necessarily equal severity is an easy point to overlook given how much attention the figure itself has drawn.

    Background and Key Points

“News to” is the new show Yomiuri TV launched on 10/5 as the successor to Nippon TV’s “Miyaneya,” and Peco’s remark came during the debut episode’s segment “My Own Best Answer.” Japan’s rail system still runs on a mix of paper tickets and IC cards/QR codes, and the thread saw a string of comments pointing out that “paper tickets haven’t been abolished” and “if you don’t ride trains regularly, a ticket is fine enough” — with many voices defending Peco. On the flip side, the co-stars who lectured her also drew pushback, with accusations of “just trying to flex” and “isn’t this harassment?” — leaving the thread split over who actually counts as “normal.” Discussion also spilled over into opinions on the show itself (impressions of the MC, the direction of its segments), but that’s really a separate question about the show’s quality, distinct from the issue of Peco’s lack of cashless experience itself.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Geinou/Sports News+) thread “[News to] Peco has no experience with cashless payments, “I buy a train ticket every single time” — co-star gives her a real scolding.”

  • Haruna Kawaguchi’s ‘Mom’s World’ Debuts at No. 1 in Box Office Rankings — 5ch: ‘Terminal-Illness Dramas Always Deliver’

The national box office rankings for October 2-4 were released, and Haruna Kawaguchi’s true-story drama “Even If Mom Is No Longer in This World: My Life’s Diary” debuted at No. 1. Based on the memoir of a young woman who died of colon cancer, the film earned 440 million yen in its first three days. Steven Spielberg’s new film “Disclosure Day” came in second. On 5ch, one thread saw comments like “terminal-illness films reliably hit no matter who makes them,” while discussion also heated up comparing attendance with other films released around the same time — including the 14th-place debut of Haruna Ayase’s “First Voice.”

    October 5, 2026

The top 10 national box office rankings for October 2-4 were released by Eiga Tsushinsha (Movie Report Co.), and Haruna Kawaguchi’s starring film “Even If Mom Is No Longer in This World: My Life’s Diary” debuted at No. 1.

The film is based on the memoir of Nodoka Endo, whose story drew attention after being featured in the “Wedding Trip” segment of Nippon TV’s variety show “The 100 Million People’s Big Question!? Warattekoraete!” (lit. “Laugh and Bear It!”). Diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer at 21, Nodoka — the protagonist, played by Kawaguchi as the eldest daughter of the Kushibiki family — never lets go of her love for her husband Shoichi and their child right up until she passes away at 24. Mahiro Takasugi plays Shoichi. The director is Yuki Yamato, known for “Drowning Knife” (“Obareru Naifu”). The film earned 440 million yen in its opening three days.

Back in the day I got a bit full of myself, wrote a novel, and submitted it somewhere — and that novel basically came true in real life, so ever since then I've been a believer in that kind of thing, same as any fiction writer would be

    Background and talking points

The national box office rankings are published weekly by Eiga Tsushinsha (Movie Report Co.) based on major theaters nationwide, and attendance figures and box office revenue can diverge depending on how a film is screened. Titles that run a lot of premium formats like IMAX tend to earn more revenue than their attendance numbers alone suggest — ‘The Odyssey,’ mentioned in the thread, is cited as one such example. It’s also typical for roughly a year to pass between filming and release, so an actor’s current activities don’t necessarily reflect what was going on when the film was shot. The pattern of true-story and terminal-illness-themed films performing strongly isn’t unique to this case — it shows up in past hits too, and having a source memoir or a TV feature piece helps build buzz ahead of release. On the other hand, differences in release scale (number of screens) directly affect attendance numbers, so a gap between how well-received a film is and how well it actually draws crowds is a common phenomenon in this industry.

TV personality Allen, known as “Allen-sama,” appeared on TV Tokyo’s late-night show “Jikkuri Kiite Taro – Stars’ Secret Updates” (airing Sunday nights at 2:20 AM) on the 4th. He talked about a type of behavior by women on social media that he “absolutely hates.”

Satisfying your need for validation is a free choice — isn't that just how it is? If anything, it's embarrassing as hell watching celebrities fall over themselves copying random YouTubers and amateurs who got popular with their casual videos.
    40AnonymousOct 5, 2026 15:40
YouTube and social media grow as toys for amateurs, and once things heat up, the celebrity world swoops in and makes good use of it — so it's kind of rich for him to say something like this.

    45AnonymousOct 5, 2026 15:41
No, if you're not allowed to show stuff you bought on social media, the companies selling it would take a massive hit — products sell because regular people buy and use them. Saying only celebrities get to review products is beyond stupid.
    46AnonymousOct 5, 2026 15:42

    50AnonymousOct 5, 2026 15:44
Social media is a service meant for ordinary people who have no other way to broadcast to the world — it was never meant for celebrities to use in the first place.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Worth noting: “Jikkuri Kiite Taro” is a late-night talk show, and this remark came up during a “girls’ talk” segment featuring cabaret hostesses. The biggest reason the comment drew backlash in the thread is that Allen himself is a TV personality who uses social media for work, making the phrase “you’re not even a celebrity” read as self-contradictory. Several replies also pointed out that social media and YouTube originally spread as platforms for ordinary users to express themselves, with celebrities only joining in later — a recurring theme being “who really has ownership of this space?” At the same time, some commenters agreed that women’s social media really is full of one-upmanship, and the discussion also drifted into whether men or women show off more. Some comments, like speculation about the source of cosmetic surgery funds, amount to unverified rumor and shouldn’t be taken as fact.

*This article is compiled from excerpts and a summary of the 5ch (Entertainment/Sports News+) thread “Allen-sama: “I absolutely hate” “ordinary SNS women” — “What’s even the point of that? You’re not even a celebrity” / “Block them all”“.

  • Wakai Koto Lands First Lead Role in Live-Action ‘Ninja Hattori-kun’ — Mrs. GREEN APPLE to Perform Theme Song, Frontman Ohmori Genki Makes Cameo

Kouto Wakai, guitarist of Mrs. GREEN APPLE, will take on his first lead drama role in a live-action adaptation of “Ninja Hattori-kun,” according to a Bunshun report. The band will perform the theme song, with vocalist Genki Ohmori also making a cameo appearance. Wakai has actually been active as a TV personality for two and a half years already, hosting a music program, but many thread commenters said they were only finding out about it today. Reactions were split between those questioning the point of a live-action adaptation or struggling to tell Wakai and Ohmori apart, and those describing the band’s expansion into dramas and signature TV shows as going the “idol agency route” toward becoming a “national group,” versus others puzzled about who was even asking for this.

The world truly belongs to Mrs. GREEN APPLE right now. They’ve got their own TV show, they’re branching into acting, and now one member has even landed his first lead drama role…

You can tell the industry is trying to mold them into the next SMAP

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

“Ninja Hattori-kun,” created by Fujiko Fujio A, has been adapted repeatedly into anime, tokusatsu, and live-action formats since its serialization began in the 1960s, but its core recognition skews toward middle-aged and older audiences — as thread commenters pointed out, it’s “no longer resonates with younger generations.” Meanwhile, Mrs. GREEN APPLE has spent the past few years building up individual members’ careers as media personalities, including Wakai’s role hosting the music program “M:ZINE,” and this new lead role is an extension of that trend. The thread split along a familiar fault line: whether the band’s expanding scope reflects them solidifying their status in the entertainment industry, or whether it’s a “selling out” departure from their musical identity — with many also questioning the very premise of adapting the original work into live action. Worth noting: a “cameo appearance” refers to a brief background role, easily mistaken for a starring part, but it actually carries little weight in the final work.

On October 4, actress Hirose Alice (31) posted on X that she’s decided to call her devoted fans who follow her every move “weirdos,” sparking a huge reaction with 1.369 million impressions. The humor-filled post, capped off with a grateful “Thanks for sticking with me until today, and please keep it up,” was largely welcomed on 5ch’s Geinou Sports Express+ board as an “affectionate nickname,” though some posters critiqued the naming sense itself, compared it to other famous fan nicknames, and brought up differences with her younger sister, actress Hirose Suzu — making it a topic people took in very different ways.

Hirose Alice: “I’ve decided to call my most intense fans this — ‘weirdos.’” Affectionate post goes massively viral

On the 4th, Hirose Alice (31) updated her X account, writing, “I’ve decided that from now on, I’ll call all of you high-firepower fans who follow me no matter where I go… ‘weirdos.’” — coining a new nickname for her devoted fanbase.

Full of humor, and capped with the closing line “Thanks for sticking with me until today, and please keep it up,” the post drew a flood of approving replies: “That affectionate, razor-sharp naming sense is on fire,” “Thank you for the best nickname ever!,” and “That’s so cool!! I’ve decided to join the ranks of the ‘weirdos’ too.” It has sparked a massive reaction with 1.369 million impressions.

When she mentioned on another show that she was a fan, he showed up as a surprise and she turned into a total puddle lol

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

It’s not unusual for celebrities to give their fans a nickname, and within the thread some posters compared the cleverness of the naming to another well-known fan nickname, “unicorn” (Reply 23). Because “weirdo” can also read as sarcastic taken at face value, reactions split over whether it’s an affectionate nickname or a jab, with one cooler-headed reply asking, “Being happy about this does make you a weirdo, sure, but you know you’re being mocked, right?” Meanwhile, the sheer scale of the reaction — 1.369 million impressions — speaks to just how widely the post was read. Several replies also brought up her younger sister, actress Hirose Suzu, suggesting that the contrast between the two sisters’ public images shaped how the topic spread.

On the October 4 broadcast of TBS’s “Sunday’s Hatsumimigaku,” singer Kaori Mochida revealed that her friend of 20 years, actress Haruka Ayase, rode off into the night on a LUUP electric scooter and “just zipped away.” On 5ch threads, posters expressed surprise that an actress would ride this kind of vehicle at all, along with worries about falls or drunk driving, while other comments pointed out the regional gap — that LUUP is concentrated in urban areas and still hasn’t spread to the countryside. Plenty of comments also praised Ayase’s acting skills.

Doesn't your place not even have LUUP by the station?

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

LUUP is an electric-scooter sharing service classified as a “specified small motorized bicycle” under a 2023 legal revision — riders 16 and older don’t need a driver’s license, and helmets are only recommended, not required, which is the backdrop for the thread’s “is it really okay to ride this?” reactions. Service locations are concentrated in major metro areas like Tokyo and Osaka, so the comments noting it’s rarely seen in the countryside aren’t a joke — they reflect the service’s actual rollout. That said, the worries about falls or drunk driving go beyond what the show itself reported and should be read as speculation, not confirmed fact.

  • Mourinho: ‘Players shouldn’t ride bicycles’ — 10 days later, injured Mbappé posts a cycling video

Ten days after Mourinho declared that “players shouldn’t ride bicycles — it’s a matter of professionalism,” Kylian Mbappé, currently away from the France squad with a left knee injury, set tongues wagging by posting a selfie video of himself cycling to his Instagram Story. Footballers are often contractually barred from cycling due to injury risk, and on 5ch the discussion ranged from “wouldn’t a stationary bike do?” and “road biking is risky even solo” to comparisons with other sports, like F1 drivers being banned from skiing.

Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé has stirred up buzz after sharing a cycling video.

Mbappé, who withdrew from the France national team due to a left knee injury, has yet to rejoin Real Madrid and is recovering on his own. Amid that, on the 4th, he posted a video to his Instagram Story that drew attention.

Mbappé shared selfie footage of himself riding a bicycle. While riding, he skillfully used one hand to film his own face, wearing a helmet, along with the bike.

If it's done as training in a designated area, I think it's fine
Riding on public roads might be the dangerous part

    Is it really that dangerous?
Guess it's not like a slow ride on the sidewalk

A bike by itself isn't dangerous
It's colliding with other traffic (cars, trucks) that causes serious injury

Background and Key Points of This Debate

In football, it’s not unusual for clubs to contractually ban high-risk leisure activities like skiing, bungee jumping, and cycling. Commenters in the thread pointed out that “Real Madrid’s contracts also ban skiing and bungee jumping” and “F1 drivers are banned from skiing too,” noting this isn’t unique to this case but a practice seen across the sporting world generally. Where opinions split was over just how dangerous cycling itself really is. Some argued a bicycle alone rarely causes a serious accident and that collisions with cars or other vehicles are the main cause of injury, pitting the view that “indoor training like a stationary bike should be the substitute” against the view that “players’ freedom of movement and lifestyle should be respected.” It’s worth noting that neither the news report nor the thread confirms whether Mbappé’s own contract actually bans cycling — that detail remains an inference from general industry practice.
