  • New Show ‘News to’ Launches — 5ch Split Over Lineup Without Miyane

Yomiuri TV’s new program “News to” (weekdays at 1:55 PM) began airing on October 6. The MC is announcer Chiaki Kuroki, and on the first episode five commentators appeared, including Tomio Umezawa and Nao of Maximum the Hormone. On 5ch, because the time slot and the vibe of the lineup resembled the station’s longtime flagship show “Joho Live Miyane-ya,” the label “Miyane-ya without Miyane” spread quickly, and opinions split over whether the show actually feels fresh and how to read the first episode’s ratings.

    10/6 (Tue) 2:49 PM

The new Nippon TV-affiliated, Yomiuri TV-produced program “News to” (Mon-Fri, 1:55 PM) aired live on the 6th.

At the top of the show, the station’s Monday-to-Thursday MC, announcer Chiaki Kuroki (32), introduced Tuesday’s commentators. Five guests appeared: Tomio Umezawa; Nao, drummer/vocalist of Maximum the Hormone; education advisor Akihiro Shimizu; Bungei Shunju’s Rina Kuroiwa; and lawyer Shuya Nomura, a professor at Chuo University’s law school.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

“News to” is Yomiuri TV’s newly launched daily program, and because its weekday-afternoon slot and its format of bringing on commentators closely resemble the station’s longtime flagship show “Joho Live Miyane-ya,” the framing “Miyane-ya without Miyane” stood out on 5ch. The thread split mainly into two camps: one frustrated that the number and selection of commentators hasn’t really changed (questioning whether the show feels genuinely new), and the other debating the first episode’s ratings, with some calling them strong and others pointing out that in real-time ratings the show was running neck-and-neck with a rival station. The article itself doesn’t go into the actual circumstances behind Shinji Miyane’s departure from the show, so the thread’s guess that it was “something like hitting retirement age” should be treated as unverified speculation, not confirmed fact.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Entertainment/Sports News Express+) thread “‘It’s like Miyane-ya without Shinji Miyane’ — New show “News to” brings on a slew of commentators… some reactions on X.”

  • YouTuber Hikaru Confesses: ¥8 Million Monthly Executive Salary, Net Worth “Honestly Around ¥6 Billion”

YouTuber Hikaru (5 million subscribers) revealed during a home-visit video with cosmetic surgeon and fellow YouTuber Mikiya Takasu that his executive salary is 8 million yen a month and his total assets are “honestly around 6 billion yen.” The two had also sat down for a roughly 100-minute conversation in a separate video before this shoot, with Takasu imposing a self-rule of “no dirty jokes” while still pressing Hikaru with probing questions. Reactions on 5ch focused less on the sheer size of the numbers than on doubts about whether the figures are even credible, along with concerns that a celebrity with this much publicly known wealth could become a target for crime.

    October 6, 2026

On October 5, “Mikiya Takasu” (1.08 million subscribers) posted a video titled “[Collab] I Visited My Close Friend Hikaru’s House and Asked Him All Sorts of Questions.” Visiting the home of “Hikaru” (5 million subscribers) and peppering him with questions, Hikaru laid out specific figures for his executive salary and total assets, and—despite Takasu’s declared “no dirty jokes” rule—held nothing back, even opening up about his number of past partners and his history with adult videos (AV).

Takasu, a cosmetic surgeon who heads the Nagoya branch of Takasu Clinic, has publicly declared himself a fan of Hikaru and has even played a Hikaru-parody character called “Mikiru” on his own channel. This time he was invited to Hikaru’s home for their first face-to-face meeting, and the two reportedly had already talked for about 100 minutes in an earlier Hikaru video before this shoot.

    90AnonymousOct 6, 2026 16:39
    Re: #85
What are you even talking about lmao

Background and Key Points of This Topic

For YouTubers like Hikaru with subscriber counts in the millions, income comes from multiple sources beyond ad revenue, including executive salaries from their own brands, and the figures mentioned in videos are based solely on the person’s own claims with no third-party verification possible. Japan abolished its high-income taxpayer disclosure system (the so-called “Choja Banzuke,” or rich list) in 2005, so there is no external way to confirm an individual’s actual asset scale — which is why the thread includes voices suspecting the numbers are exaggerated. At the same time, robberies carried out by recruits for “yami baito” (shady part-time jobs advertised on social media) have been on the rise in recent years, fueling concern that celebrities who publicly flaunt their wealth could become targets. Notably, the discussion shifted away from whether the numbers themselves are true and toward “the risk of saying this publicly at all” — a reaction pattern characteristic of this kind of wealth-reveal content.

He turns 18 this year — he's an adult now, not a kid.

    Background and Key Points

Yutabon first drew attention around 2018 as an “elementary schooler who chose not to attend school,” operating under his father’s direction. Turning 18 this year means he’s no longer a minor, and he’s also someone whose political remarks are getting noticed more often lately. Mayumi Kurata works as a manga artist and essayist; she was once known for leaning liberal, but in recent years appears to have shifted her stance. The thread touched on this shift, but since that shift can only be verified by following her own statements over time, it would be premature to form a fixed judgment from this one post alone. There’s also a view of him as “a victim exploited by his father,” which reflects his past activities and is treated as a separate issue from his current standing.

  • Oda Nobunaga Role Survey: Takashi Sorimachi Takes 2nd, Takuya Kimura 3rd — 5ch Chimes In: ‘This Year’s Taiga Drama Is Garbage’

In a survey by TRILL asking 300 people nationwide, aged in their teens through seventies, about the “most memorable actor to play Oda Nobunaga,” Takashi Sorimachi came in second and Takuya Kimura third. The actor who took first place reportedly drew comments like “it’s as if Nobunaga himself possessed him.” On the 5ch thread reacting to the survey, posters focused more on naming Showa- and Heisei-era Taiga drama actors like Koji Yakusho, Tetsuya Watari, and Hideki Takahashi than on the actual results, highlighting just how differently each generation remembers “the definitive Nobunaga.” Some also praised Shota Someya’s deranged, intense take on the role, and differences in each production’s direction became a talking point too.

    TRILL, Oct. 6

Actors who play Oda Nobunaga bring more than just charisma and intensity — they often reveal a surprising human side too. Since every production portrays him differently, many of you probably have a Nobunaga performance you just can’t forget.

This time we surveyed 300 people nationwide, ranging from their teens to their seventies, about “the actor who left the strongest impression playing Oda Nobunaga.” The responses were full of the excitement people felt watching these portrayals and how convincingly each actor fit the role. Be sure to check out the results — you might find yourself nodding along!

Kimutaku and Sorimachi are fighting it out for worst, honestly.
What 'legend' are they talking about — the reviews were brutal.
Sorimachi doesn't fit the Nobunaga image at all either.
Oguri's Nobunaga, I get it. Kinnosuke Yorozuya, I get it. Hideki Takahashi, I get it. Ken Watanabe, I get it.
But Kimutaku's Nobunaga was just the worst — sure, the script was garbage too —
but it was nowhere close to the soul-deep acting you'd see in something like 'Bushi no Ichibun.'

    Background and Talking Points

This survey was conducted by TRILL, and the key point is its scale — 300 people — and the broad age range covered, from teens to seventies. Nobunaga has been portrayed in Taiga dramas spanning decades, from ‘Kunitori Monogatari’ and ‘Tokugawa Ieyasu’ to ‘Ōgon no Hibi’ and, more recently, ‘Kirin ga Kuru,’ so it’s only natural that the actors people remember most vary widely by generation. On the thread, harsh assessments like ‘his acting was stiff’ or ‘that was the worst’ appeared alongside praise like ‘the madness really came through’ — aimed at the very same actor — and since there’s no single ‘correct’ Nobunaga, neither reaction is wrong. The thread also cites missionary Luís Fróis’s record that the real Nobunaga’s voice was ‘high-pitched,’ a detail readers may easily overlook, since the common image of Nobunaga having a deep, weighty voice doesn’t necessarily match the historical record. </analysis>

  • Misato Ugaki tells people bad at small talk: “Weather talk can carry you 30 minutes” — 5ch: “That’s over in 2 minutes”

Freelance announcer Misato Ugaki shared her small-talk tips on the YouTube show “YOUTRUST Studio” alongside comedian Nobuko, advising people who struggle with first meetings that “talking about the weather can carry you for 30 minutes.” Nobuko agreed, saying “you can tell in one exchange if someone doesn’t want to talk,” and the two explained their approach of reading the other person’s mood as they go. Reactions on 5ch were mixed: some praised the practicality of weather talk, while others doubted its effectiveness, saying it “runs out in two minutes” or “comes across as a desperate last resort.”

Nobuko of the comedy trio “Party-chan” and freelance announcer Misato Ugaki appeared on the YouTube channel “YOUTRUST Studio” in an episode posted on the 5th, where they talked about their tips for small talk.

Responding to a viewer’s concern about being bad at small talk with people they’re meeting for the first time, both Nobuko and Ugaki said they’re actually good at it. “I just do it without thinking,” Ugaki said. She added, “If the other person seems to dislike it I’ll stop, but basically I just talk to them a lot,” to which Nobuko agreed, “You can tell in one exchange if someone doesn’t want to talk.” Ugaki further explained, “If I sense that this person wants to focus right now, I’ll go quiet too.”

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Misato Ugaki and Nobuko’s advice touched on the very relatable topic of how to get through the awkwardness of meeting someone for the first time, and it drew a wide range of reactions in the thread. Weather talk is a classic, inoffensive go-to topic, but opinions split between those who saw it as “a desperate fallback once you’ve run out of things to say” and those who viewed it as “a handy opening that can lead into other topics.” Some commenters cited concrete real-life situations where small talk is unavoidable, like waiting for a meeting to start or sharing a cab, framing the ability to make small talk not simply as a matter of conversational skill but as something shaped by the situation and one’s genuine interest in the other person. The view that there’s no need to fear silence also stood out, reflecting a perspective that treats small talk as a kind of social ritual.

  • 82-Year-Old Tiger Jeet Singh to Guest at Megumi Kudo’s 40th Anniversary Show

It’s been announced that 82-year-old Tiger Jeet Singh will make a guest appearance at “Jado-hime Densetsu” (“Legend of the Heel Princess”), the 40th-anniversary event on the 17th at Yoyogi National Gymnasium Annex for Zero1 GM Megumi Kudo (57), who built her name as FMW’s “Heel Princess.” Singh first appeared in FMW in 1992, feuding with heel wrestler Atsushi Onita, and shared the ring with Kudo back then. After the announcement, 5ch lit up with talk of Singh’s real-life gentlemanly side once he’s out of the ring, comparisons to fellow wrestlers from his generation who’ve since passed away, and plain astonishment that he’s still at it at 82.

It’s been announced that “the Indian Madman” Tiger Jeet Singh (82) will make a guest appearance at “Jado-hime Densetsu,” the 40th-anniversary event (the 17th, at Tokyo’s Yoyogi National Gymnasium Annex) for Zero1 GM Megumi Kudo (57), who made her name as FMW’s “Heel Princess.”

A legendary villain famous for his brutal clashes with the two titans Antonio Inoki and Giant Baba, Singh first appeared in FMW in June 1992, feuding with heel wrestler Atsushi Onita. At the time, Kudo — then FMW’s top female star — worked in the same promotion’s ring as him.

Singh, together with his son and former WWE Superstar Tiger Ali Singh, posted a comment on Kudo’s YouTube channel, “Kudome Channel.” After announcing his trip to Japan with the words, “I’ve finally made up my mind. I can’t let the fans down,” he sent a message to the Heel Princess: “There’s only one reason we’re coming — to see you. You’re the best! You don’t have to be afraid of me. I’m not going to hurt you.”

    Background and Talking Points

Tiger Jeet Singh debuted with All Japan Pro Wrestling in 1965, building his career on the villainous “Madman” gimmick, best remembered for attacking Antonio Inoki and Giant Baba with foreign objects. He joined FMW in 1992, and his feud with heel wrestler Atsushi Onita helped define an era for the promotion. In the thread, some posters mistook him for Iranian, but he’s actually Indo-Canadian, and a respected figure back home known for philanthropy, including funding school construction. His trademark saber was rigged for safety with a protected tip, and multiple posters noted he’s a genuine gentleman once he’s out of the ring — suggesting his heel persona was a thoroughly committed act. Megumi Kudo, who built her career as FMW’s top female star, now serves as Zero1’s GM, and this guest announcement for her 40th-anniversary show shows just how far her connections reach after such a long career.

    Background and Discussion Points

A “3 months to live” prognosis is a rough estimate drawn from past statistics, not a guarantee of how any individual patient’s case will actually progress. Doctors are also said to tend toward harsher timeframes than what’s likely, so plenty of cases don’t go as predicted. Additionally, “remission” differs from a full “cure” — it refers to a state where no abnormalities show up on tests, and it’s possible to relapse years later or develop an entirely new blood disorder. On the thread, most comments expressed concern for her health, but some voiced doubt about the credibility of her account, and others pointed to a possible vaccine connection — though all of this remains speculation, and with no detailed explanation yet from Kagami or her medical team, there’s no basis at this point for pinning down a diagnosis or cause. This thread is a textbook example of how a celebrity health disclosure can spark both sympathy and skepticism at once.

*This article excerpts and summarizes the 5channel (Geinou/Sports News+) thread “Actress and model Saki Kagami (41) rushed to hospital with blood disease, also reveals she was once told she had “3 months to live”.”

  • Juice=Juice’s Fan Club Tour DVD Gets 6 Dislikes Within 2 Hours — 5ch Buzzes with Theories

Juice=Juice’s fan club tour DVD, “Osaka Senshu × Juice=Juice FC Tour ~Honma EeToko Osaka Senshu Meguri~,” racked up 406 likes but also 6 dislikes within just two hours of going public. Because a video from Angerme released around the same time had zero dislikes, the gap became a hot topic on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. In the thread, two theories collided without resolution: that a single person was behind the dislikes as a one-man campaign, or that fans of Akari Uemura — whose scenes were reportedly left out of the DVD — were behind the backlash.

What on earth is going on here… Angerme’s got zero dislikes and this one doesn’t

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

Since 2021, YouTube has hidden dislike counts from the general public, meaning they can normally only be checked with a browser extension. The exchange in posts 2 and 9 — “You can see it if you install an extension” — shows that whoever started the thread tracked down the number that way. A dislike count of six is a tiny fraction of the video’s total views, but among idol fans, even small numbers like this tend to get read into heavily. Both the “it’s a single person’s one-man campaign” theory and the “it’s a reaction from Akari Uemura fans whose scenes were cut from the DVD” theory circulated without any supporting evidence. Worth noting: nothing in the thread actually identifies who cast the dislikes, so the whole discussion remains firmly in speculation territory.

  • Sean K’s New Video Sparks Huge Buzz — “That Voice Is Still Perfect,” “Welcome Back” — Official Site Reveals His Current Job

On October 5, the official X account of business media outlet “PIVOT” posted a new interview video featuring management consultant Sean Kawakami (58), widely known as “Sean K.” The topic: “Why Japanese People’s English Doesn’t Get Through.” He’s rarely been seen in the public eye since allegations of a fabricated background surfaced in 2014, so this rare update drew a mixed reaction on 5ch — plenty of warmth (“that voice is still perfect,” “welcome back”), but just as many comments rehashing and mocking his old “Horatcho” scandal.

Business video outlet “PIVOT”‘s official X account posted an update by the 5th: a video featuring “Sean K,” management consultant Sean Kawakami (58), talking about his current activities.

What’s stopping them from improving, and why doesn’t it land? We asked management consultant Sean Kawakami about the logic and structure needed to build ‘English that actually gets through.’” The post came with an interview video featuring him.

Though I guess it's a hassle sometimes when your face doesn't match your ID photo

Background and context of this story

Sean K, whose real name is Sean McArdle Kawakami (now going by Sean Kawakami), had his fabricated academic and career history exposed by a weekly magazine in 2014, and he disappeared from public view right before he was set to become a news anchor. At the time he picked up the nickname “Horatcho” for his habit of spinning tall tales (“hora”), and he’s often mentioned alongside Mamoru Samuragochi, the central figure in another résumé-fabrication scandal that broke the same year. This latest video isn’t about the scandal itself — it’s a segment from a business media outlet on “why Japanese people’s English doesn’t get through,” and he’s currently working as a “management consultant.” His first real public appearance in about a decade drew both warm welcomes (“great voice,” “welcome back”) and jabs at his old scandal at the same time; notably, outright hostility was rare, with most reactions leaning toward finding him “hard to hate” or just plain “entertaining.”

  • Bereaved Family Struggles to Cancel Dead Mother’s NHK Subscription — 5ch: “I’m Cancelling Mine While I’m Still Alive”

Since mid-September, a bereaved family’s account of being told by NHK, Japan’s public broadcaster, that “only the account holder can cancel” after their mother’s death has been making waves on social media. The original article detailed the cancellation procedure NHK actually disclosed. In the thread, reports of canceling with a single phone call after reporting the death sat alongside reports of drawn-out procedures requiring disposal of the TV receiver and proof of the death certificate, leading some to suggest that handling varies by staff member or branch office. There was also pointed skepticism about NHK’s system itself — using the Basic Resident Register to hunt down new contracts, but apparently not to flag deaths.

NHK cancellation sounds like a pain, but
your subscriptions are probably going to be just as annoying for your family to cancel once you're dead.
You guys got any plan for that?
    22AnonymousOct 5, 2026 20:24
    Re: #4
For the ones billed through your phone, does canceling the phone contract not take care of it too?
    30AnonymousOct 5, 2026 20:25
    Re: #4
If you cancel the credit card, there's no way left to pay, so the company will end up contacting the family anyway.
    33AnonymousOct 5, 2026 20:27
    Re: #4
For subscriptions, once the bank account gets inherited or the credit card gets canceled, there's no account to bill anymore, so it cancels itself automatically.
NHK's problem is just that "doesn't pay" never triggers a forced cancellation — that's what's so awful about it.
    6AnonymousOct 5, 2026 20:12
NHK: "You can't cancel unless you dispose of the receiver."
Debt collectors: "Dispose of assets and we won't let you renounce the inheritance."
    10AnonymousOct 5, 2026 20:16
    Re: #6
If you renounce the inheritance, you don't inherit the viewing contract or its payment debt either, so it doesn't matter.
    7AnonymousOct 5, 2026 20:12
NHK staff should be paid less than local civil servants.
    8AnonymousOct 5, 2026 20:14
If they're saying it can't be canceled, well, it's the dead mother's contract — can't you just abandon/renounce it? That's what I'd think.
    59AnonymousOct 5, 2026 20:41
    Re: #8
She's already dead, so it's not like she's going to watch it anymore anyway.

    A shady, exploitative outfit.
    Somebody shut them down already.
    11AnonymousOct 5, 2026 20:16
That's why you just shouldn't sign up for a contract in the first place.
Though if you own your home with a mortgage, apparently it's not that simple.
Just get rid of the TV.
    12AnonymousOct 5, 2026 20:17
If someone else still lives there, you just switch the contract holder, and if nobody lives there, that's grounds for cancellation —
so does that mean they wanted to use the contract holder's death as the reason to cancel, even though someone's still living there with a TV?
    13AnonymousOct 5, 2026 20:17
The real issue is whether there's a TV or not — it has nothing to do with being alive or dead.
    79AnonymousOct 5, 2026 20:59

Being alive = watching TV, in their logic.
    19AnonymousOct 5, 2026 20:22
If it's going to be this much of a hassle after death, maybe I'll just cancel it now while I can.

    23AnonymousOct 5, 2026 20:24
Make sure to get the name of whoever takes your call, and tell them you're taking this to court.
Lying to stop someone from canceling is straight-up fraud.
    26AnonymousOct 5, 2026 20:25
Going forward, everything would be solved if NHK just made it physically impossible to watch without a contract.

Make some kind of NHK-exclusive B-CAS card (the decoder card used for Japanese digital TV).
    27AnonymousOct 5, 2026 20:25
I genuinely have nothing but contempt for people who work at NHK.
    28AnonymousOct 5, 2026 20:25
I canceled mine just fine, actually — walked right into the branch office.
Guess they get yelled at there all the time,
because they looked seriously braced for a fight, lol.
    32AnonymousOct 5, 2026 20:26
My father was disabled and had the discounted viewing fee.
After I let NHK's paperwork slide for a while,
a postcard showed up saying that since the person the discount applied to had died, they'd now be charging the full regular rate.
Where are they even getting that information from?
    53AnonymousOct 5, 2026 20:39
    Re: #32
    That'd be the city office.
When you file the death certificate and go through the process of returning the disability certificate, the office probably notifies NHK that the discount ends.
    34AnonymousOct 5, 2026 20:27
Making cancellation such a hassle in the first place is just plain shady.
    35AnonymousOct 5, 2026 20:29
    Re: #33
Yeah, thinking about it that way, NHK really is outrageous.
So a few years down the line you get hit with a back-billed surcharge, and then even dragged to court over it?
    36AnonymousOct 5, 2026 20:29
If there's no contract, there's no such thing as "unpaid fees" to begin with.
    37AnonymousOct 5, 2026 20:29
Even people who paid properly get this treatment.
Not even a shred of gratitude for having been a viewer.
    60AnonymousOct 5, 2026 20:41
    It's absurd.
NHK even knows when you've moved —
they check the Basic Resident Register for that —
but then claim they have no way of knowing someone died? Give me a break.

    Re: #60
    Re: #62
Checking the Basic Resident Register is for tracking down people who haven't signed a contract yet, so they can be made to sign one.
It's not there so the broadcaster can kindly notice a viewer died and cancel the contract out of courtesy.
    62AnonymousOct 5, 2026 20:42
    NHK really are liars.
They snoop through the register whenever it suits them,
    absolute worst.
    64AnonymousOct 5, 2026 20:46
Is that a recent thing? When my mother collapsed and was hospitalized, I called NHK and was able to cancel just fine.

    Re: #64
    Right?
When my father died, I was able to cancel over the phone too.
I'd braced myself for a hassle, so it was almost anticlimactic.
They even offered condolences and thanked me for all the years under contract — it actually got me a little teary.
This was 7 years ago, in the Chugoku region.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

At the root of NHK’s response is the logic that the viewing contract is an obligation imposed on “whoever installs the receiving equipment,” meaning the contract holder’s death, by itself, isn’t treated as direct grounds for cancellation. What split the thread was that reports of quick, single-phone-call cancellations existed right alongside reports of drawn-out procedures demanding a death certificate and disposal of the receiver — suggesting practice may shift depending on the branch, the staff member, or the timing. There was also the point that NHK uses the Basic Resident Register to chase down new contracts from people who haven’t signed up, but apparently not to flag cancellations when someone dies — something readers can easily misread as “if they already have the information, they should just tell us,” when institutionally that data is actually being used for an entirely different purpose.
