  • Hololive’s Official “Holo Puyo Tetris Tournament” About to Kick Off — Fans Buzz Over Who’s Competing

Ahead of the broadcast start for Hololive’s official “Holo Puyo Tetris Tournament,” a thread on 5ch’s livestreaming board (Nandemo Jikkyo G) buzzed with speculation about the lineup and predictions for the eventual champion. While some posts claimed Sakura Miko wouldn’t be taking part, others insisted she would, leaving the thread with conflicting reports. During the practice streams alone, Koyori’s stream reportedly hit 10,000 concurrent viewers and Vivi’s reached 14,000 — a sign of just how much attention the event is getting before it’s even started. True to form for the final stretch before a big event, fans traded predictions, with some backing Okayu’s strength and others naming Koyori as the top favorite to win.

    Almost showtime

Feels like this'll clash with VIVAn's stream (likely another event airing around the same time)

    Vivi: 14,000 concurrent
    88AnonymousAug 30, 2026 19:22
Gotta say Koyori's the top favorite to win, right?

    Background and Key Discussion Points

The “Holo Puyo Tetris Tournament” appears to be a planned Puyo Puyo Tetris competition stream featuring Hololive talents. The thread’s main point of contention was the unconfirmed lineup — rumors that Sakura Miko was sitting out coexisted with posts insisting she’d be taking part, with speculation flying well ahead of any official announcement. Concurrent viewer counts (a rough gauge of live audience size) reportedly reached 10,000–14,000 during the practice broadcasts alone, noticeably higher than a typical stream and a clear sign of the anticipation building ahead of the main event. Commenters were also split on how to read the more business-like side of these planned collaborations: one post lamenting that “everyone’s being made to practice like it’s mandatory” was met with the reply “that’s just the job.” Note that the favorites named here (Okayu, Koyori) are purely pre-event viewer speculation and don’t guarantee anything about the actual results.

  • One Year After Actress Nagiko Tono’s Death, Mail Still Arrives and Her Phone Still Rings — The Reality of Dying Alone

Actress Nagiko Tono (45) died in her apartment in July 2025, and this July marked the first anniversary of her death. According to entertainment industry sources, mail has continued arriving at her apartment, and her phone service has remained active, never having been canceled. On 5channel’s Entertainment/Sports News+ board, this “reality of what happens after dying alone” sparked discussion about how complicated it is to cancel phone and bank accounts, the parallels with other actresses who died alone in the past like Reiko Ohara and Ai Iijima, and the need for inheritance planning and end-of-life preparation.

    Mon, Aug 31, 11:15 AM

This July marked the first anniversary of the death of actress Nagiko Tono (45).

Tono made her debut as a child actor at age six and went on to appear not only in dramas and films but also in variety shows. News of her death broke in July 2025. She had gone freelance that February, and on June 27 she posted what appeared to be a video of herself cooking “chicken teriyaki” on her blog. Updates stopped after that, and on the 3rd of the following month her body was found in her apartment. An entertainment industry insider explains:

    What about you?
I'm in my late 40s/early 50s and only now looking into inheritance stuff as an amateur lol
Obviously parents, children, and grandchildren take priority, but I had no idea how far Japan's inheritance system reaches into the extended family lol
Like, I didn't know that as a nephew, inheritance rights for an uncle or aunt could even come around to me.
All my parents' siblings are married with kids and grandkids, so I probably won't have to deal with inheriting as a nephew from an uncle or aunt, but it's wild how the bureaucracy tracks all of this lol
And if the land registry involves not just farmland out in the countryside but actual mountain forest land, that's just depressing.
    16AnonymousAug 31, 2026 15:43
Even without dying alone, sorting things out after death is a real pain even for married couples or families, so make it easy on everyone — tell a trusted family member your phone passcode and account numbers, or write them in your will.
You should also keep all your contract documents together in one place.

    Re: #16
For that Nepalese family, even sharing that info would've been pointless.
Sometimes an entire family dies at once in a car accident too — that's rough as well.

    59AnonymousAug 31, 2026 16:30
    Re: #21
I'm on the side that has to deal with it, so it's a headache.
There's no valuable property either way, so it's 'renounce it, renounce it' — that's what my kids tell me too, and I live with a constant 'sorry' feeling knowing our family grave line ends with me.
Your post reminded me of something else I need to look into.
Once you formally renounce an inheritance, is it still okay religiously to visit the temple's graveyard under the danka (temple-parishioner) system?
I was advised that if you renounce it, you must never set foot on the old family home property again — not even to pull weeds, that's strictly forbidden.
Apparently there's some rule about it possibly making you count as the property's 'manager' or something.
In my case, when my parents die, as their child I'd be first in line, so I renounce it, and my kid (the grandchild) renounces it too.
I heard that then it passes to my parents' siblings, and cousins get pulled into it too.
If it were assets worth having it'd be different, but for my family, renouncing is the right call.
    22AnonymousAug 31, 2026 15:52
I get having an accident while out walking, but an 'accident' inside your own room? What does that even mean?
    Wasn't it heatstroke or something?
    40AnonymousAug 31, 2026 16:12
    Re: #22
She always looked unwell, and even during that time of year last summer she reportedly only ran the AC in one room (for the cat's sake) — she may not have been able to regulate her own body temperature properly.
If it really was an accident, I'd guess she got dizzy, fell, and hit her head.

Background and Key Points of Discussion

The original article doesn’t go into detail about Tono’s cause of death, so mentions of eating disorders or depression in the thread are purely speculation from posters, not confirmed information. The main point of disagreement centered on the practical side of “sorting out contracts after death” — canceling a phone or subscription service generally requires identity verification from the account holder themselves, and posters shared specific examples of how even relatives often need to present a death certificate and handle the process in person at a store. On the other hand, posters pointed out that the widely believed idea that “bank accounts freeze the instant someone dies” isn’t actually true — freezing requires a notification to the financial institution, and withdrawals continue until that happens. Some commenters drew parallels with other actresses who died alone in the past, like Reiko Ohara and Ai Iijima, and the discussion centered on the need to share information and get one’s affairs in order while still alive.

  • Kumakiri Asami’s cryptic ‘Sick of the harassment’ post sparks reaction — 5ch asks: ‘What’s she even known for?’

In the early hours of the 29th, TV personality Asami Kumakiri (46) posted on X, “Honestly, I’ve been putting up with a lot… but you only live once, so I’ve decided to be honest and enjoy my work.” The post also contained phrases like “sick of the harassment” and “I’m done holding back,” but she gave no specifics about who did what to her. On 5ch’s Geinou Sports Breaking News+ board, posters speculated over the true meaning of the post, with many suspecting trouble with her talent agency or manager, while other unclear parts of the post fueled further speculation.

Background and key points of the discussion

Cryptic posts like this one — writing only “I’ve been holding back” or “harassment” without naming names or specific events — are a recurring pattern on celebrities’ social media, and the lack of detail only invites more speculation from readers. On the thread, many suspected trouble with her talent agency or manager, but these remained pure speculation based only on the wording of the post itself; as of this writing, neither the agency nor Kumakiri herself has offered any specific explanation. Whether we ever find out what the “harassment” refers to depends largely on whether she chooses to reveal more in the future.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Geinou Sports Breaking News+) thread “[Entertainment] Asami Kumakiri’s cryptic late-night post: “Honestly I’ve been holding back a lot… but I’ve decided to be honest,” “Sick of the harassment,” “I’m done holding back”.”

  • 24-Hour TV Telethon Tops ¥100 Million in Donations Within an Hour — 5ch: ‘If 10 Million People Give 10 Yen Each, That’s ¥100 Million’

On Nippon TV’s charity telethon 24-Hour TV (aired August 29, 2026), total donations reportedly topped ¥100 million about an hour after the broadcast began, sparking reactions on a 5ch live-commentary thread. The thread saw a steady stream of doubts about how the donations would actually be used and sarcastic jabs at the show’s management, alongside replies pointing out — citing the math that “if 10 million people each give 10 yen, that adds up to ¥100 million” — that the total may simply reflect a pile-up of small donations. A video showing staff restraining a bystander during the marathon segment was also circulated, and opinions were split over the show’s production tactics.

Netizens are basically always losing at life anyway.

    Background and Discussion Points

24-Hour TV is a charity special that airs every summer on the Nippon TV network, and questions about how the donations are used and how transparent the cast’s appearance fees are have long been a recurring topic of online debate around the show. In this thread too, doubts about how much of the donations actually reach those in need coexisted with sarcastic jabs at treating the show as pure entertainment. On the other hand, the point that “if 10 million people each give 10 yen, that’s ¥100 million” suggests the total may simply reflect an accumulation of many small donations, and doesn’t necessarily indicate large-scale giving or wrongdoing. The video circulating about the marathon segment is likewise just one clipped moment from the production, not proof of what the show as a whole is really like.

  • Hakata Daikichi: “TikTok Is Just People Complaining About Politics” — 5ch Reacts

Talent Hakata Daikichi, on the September 29 broadcast of TV Tokyo’s “Nikenme Dou Suru? ~Tsumami no Hanashi~” (roughly, “Where to Next? ~Bar Snack Talk~”), said that the videos showing up on his TikTok feed are “just people complaining about politics” and that it’s not fun at all. Reacting to this, 5ch commenters noted en masse that the genre of videos TikTok shows varies wildly from person to person—some said they get nothing but adult content, sports, or pet videos, while others said theirs is all political criticism or videos hyping up specific politicians. Opinions were split on whether the difference comes down to the algorithm or each person’s own viewing habits.

Hakata Daikichi—Even TikTok users say “Not fun at all!” → The videos that show up are “just people complaining about politics”

TV Tokyo’s “Nikenme Dou Suru? ~Tsumami no Hanashi~”, hosted by talents Hakata Daikichi and Masahiro Matsuoka, aired on the 29th.

Kano Takahashi, an influencer known for appearing on the dating reality show “Today, I Fell in Love.”, made a guest appearance. When Takahashi asked, “Do you check social media—TikTok and stuff?” Daikichi replied, “Oh, all the time!”

    Re: #125
Isn't the point that the algorithm itself is garbage?

Background and Key Points of This Topic

TikTok’s “For You” feed works by optimizing what’s shown to each user based on their viewing history and watch time, so even on the same app the videos that appear can vary hugely from person to person. In the thread, some said they get nothing but videos criticizing politics, while others said theirs is mostly sports and pet content—likely a case of each person’s own viewing habits being reflected back by the algorithm. That said, it’s true that around election periods in particular there have been stretches where short-form videos favorably spotlighting specific politicians became conspicuous on social media, and it’s repeatedly been pointed out that such content tends to spread widely even when its accuracy is hard to verify. The thread saw both takes—“it’s the algorithm’s fault” and “it’s down to the individual’s own viewing habits”—with no consensus reached.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Tsunku♂ lost his voice after hypopharyngeal cancer surgery in 2014, and his 2016 speech at the Kindai University entrance ceremony — built around the theme ‘life is a second-chance match’ — became widely talked about at the time. The 24-Hour TV special drama ‘There Is Happiness’ is based on this true story, and on the thread, reactions focused heavily on the details of his illness and on the performances of Takahashi Mitsuomi as Tsunku♂ and Kitagawa Keiko as his wife. At the same time, many pointed out the jarring change in pace when a variety-style singing contest segment began right after the emotional scenes. Note that unverified speculation about the cause of his illness and his past activities sometimes circulates online, but since none of it is fact confirmed by Tsunku♂ himself or the program, such posts have been excluded from this article.

  • Liella! 8th Tour Sparks New-Song Shortage Worries — 5ch: ‘There Was Even a Show With Only Two New Songs’

Speculation mixed with leaked information is swirling on 5ch’s Love Live! board over Liella! (Love Live! Superstar!!)’s upcoming 8th live tour. Counting all three new songs performed since the 7th tour — “Koi no Tutorial,” “Hyper Glowing!,” and “Riera no Uta” — the total comes to only about five or six new tracks, prompting one thread comment tinged with anxiety: “There was even a show with only two new songs.” Meanwhile, with no new anime developments to draw a live theme from, some posters called for the production team to greenlight a movie or OVA — though others questioned how realistic that is, noting that key staff members Kyogoku, Hanada, and Saito have all since moved over to the Hasunosora project.

Saito → cleared out his desk at Sunrise
    Fujisawa → working on Hasunosora
    Kisaragi → working on Hasunosora
Everyone else → working on Hasunosora

Koi no Tutorial's already been performed and people are sick of it — the reception's been bad. If the Hyper Glowing stuff gets performed at the upcoming sports festival, that's zero stock left for the 8th tour. And if it doesn't get performed there, that pretty much confirms the sports festival is just a lame variety show with no live segment. Either way, they're screwed.

    93AnonymousAug 31, 2026 23:51
    Re: #85
Turning it into a tour lets them pad attendance numbers with the folks who go to every single show.
The fanbase itself is small, so the only way to boost attendance figures is to make it a tour and get people to attend multiple dates.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Liella! is the school idol group at the center of Love Live! Superstar!!, whose anime concluded its story arc with season 3. Key staff — including screenwriter Juki Hanada and director Naohiko Kyogoku — have since shifted their focus to the successor project, Hasunosora Girls’ School Idol Club. The thread’s wish that “a new anime or movie would make it easier to come up with live themes” isn’t just idle hoping — it reflects the real constraints of the current staffing situation. The recent slowdown in new songs for live tours similarly stems from the fact that the anime pipeline supplying new material has stalled, a circumstance common to media-mix franchises. It’s also worth noting that while the word “finale” took on a life of its own in the thread, the production committee has made no official announcement to that effect — it remains pure fan speculation.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

“CDTV Live! Live!” is a music special aired on TBS, and according to an image posted in the thread, this episode’s timeslot ratings came in at 4.4%. Commenters also listed ratings for other music shows broadcast this year, including Music Station, STAR, Venue101, and Buzz Rhythm, with uniformly low numbers across the board. That said, these figures come from images posted within the thread, so they may differ in wording from official figures released by networks or ratings agencies — worth keeping in mind. The debate centered on whether Juice=Juice’s appearance pushed the ratings up or dragged them down, with posters split between those claiming the group opened the show and those disputing it. Talk of an “agency slot” system determining show bookings was pure 5ch speculation with no supporting evidence given. There were also exchanges resembling a support rivalry between different Hello! Project group fandoms, occasionally escalating into arguments with fans of other groups.

Starvation means dying from malnutrition, which requires a long-term food shortage as a precondition
A normal person (someone living the kind of lifestyle that lets them bodybuild in the first place) can survive a month, two, even three without eating, as long as they're drinking water, depending on conditions
Put another way, if you die before that point, the cause of death is something other than starvation — so it wasn't starvation

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Sudden deaths among bodybuilders are not uncommon, and are often linked to factors like dehydration and electrolyte imbalances from pre-competition sodium restriction, along with misuse of drugs such as diuretics and insulin. In the thread, the theory that Muscle Kitamura died of “starvation” was widely repeated, but the leading theory is actually cardiac arrest from hypoglycemia caused by an insulin overdose, and similar causes of death have been reported for several professional bodybuilders overseas as well. Quamina’s actual cause of death had not been made public as of this report, and it’s worth noting that all the speculation discussed in the thread remains unconfirmed. Opinions for and against bodybuilding as a sport also surfaced, but that debate stems from differing personal views on physique and isn’t directly related to Quamina’s death.

  • Yasuko’s Children’s Cafeteria Draws Fire Over ‘LINE Reservation Only’ Policy — 5ch Asks: ‘Will It Really Reach the Truly Poor Kids?’

Comedian Yasuko (27) announced on her X account on August 30 that she had opened a children’s cafeteria called “Yasu-mattari.” It runs once a week on an irregular schedule, and using it requires a reservation made entirely through LINE. That drew questions online, with some asking, “Won’t this fail to reach kids from truly struggling families who aren’t even allowed to have a smartphone?” Yasuko responded, “We’re working in coordination with schools.” The news sparked a wave of reactions on 5ch, with debate ranging from suggestions that schools should select and refer eligible kids, to sarcastic jabs calling it a “poverty business” because of the reservation-only setup, to alternative ideas like simply handing out leftover school lunches.

    Mon, Aug 31, 3:34 PM

Comedian Yasuko (27) updated her X (formerly Twitter) account on the 31st. She had announced on the 30th that she was opening a children’s cafeteria called “Yasu-mattari,” and she addressed the feedback she’d received about its reservation method.

Yasuko wrote, “I’ve opened the children’s cafeteria ‘Yasu-mattari’!! It’s all thanks to everyone who helped out. Thank you so, so much!!”

    Re: #78
There's the food-poisoning risk, and the kid who takes food home might get bullied for it, but more than anything, public institutions run on the principle of equal treatment. Honestly, plenty of kids would want free food given the chance, so it'd be tough to draw a line on who qualifies and then split things fairly even among the kids inside that line. Outsiders can say 'don't overthink it,' but it's the teachers on the ground who actually have to deal with complaints from pushy 'monster parents.'
    90AnonymousAug 31, 2026 17:35
    Hmm…
I get what she's going for, and I do give her credit, but telling a kid outright, 'If you're poor and can't eat, come to my place' — is that really okay?

That's exactly why most children's cafeterias are set up so anyone can come, poor or not. But when a celebrity runs one, people flood in, so Yasuko's place is probably trying reservations and other trial-and-error fixes because of that.
    107AnonymousAug 31, 2026 17:48

    Re: #107
    Wait, seriously?! Is that true?!
    117AnonymousAug 31, 2026 17:54
Honestly, some people who run children's cafeterias are just chasing subsidies, and on the user side too, it's not always the truly poor — plenty of well-off 'beggars' show up for free food even though they've got income, a car, and parents. And sure enough, here too, the LINE reservation system leaves poor families who can't afford smartphones out in the cold — kind of says it all. The intentions might be admirable, but wouldn't it be better to do relief visits or soup kitchens at disaster areas or children's group homes instead?
    120AnonymousAug 31, 2026 17:58
So the plan is: the school certifies 'this kid is poor,' and only then does the reservation get made?
    122AnonymousAug 31, 2026 18:00
    Re: #117 Re: #120

    135AnonymousAug 31, 2026 18:07
    Re: #117
Just reading this thread proves it — when you run volunteer work aimed at low-income people, folks outside the target group get noisy about this and that, and it turns into a mess. A reservation system is a good way to keep those noisy types from butting in. Makes me want to say: put in some work or money instead of just running your mouth.

    Re: #144
Whenever Yasuko comes up, this opinion always shows up, but among the general public, it's probably still Yasuko who's more liked. Can't say for sure if it's just an online thing, though.

    Background and Points of Debate

Japan is said to have more than 9,000 children’s cafeterias nationwide, and most operate not as poverty-only services but as places any local child can use — a point raised in the thread too, with users noting that “most children’s cafeterias let kids in even if they’re not poor.” When a celebrity runs one, applicants can flood in and crowd out the very families the service is meant to help, which is why some adopt a reservation system — but beyond saying she’s “coordinating with schools,” Yasuko hasn’t given any further explanation in the article. The thread split over how to read this: does the LINE reservation system shut out struggling families without smartphones, or does the school partnership secure access for the intended kids through a separate channel? Speculation also flew over whether the funding comes out of Yasuko’s own pocket, but the article doesn’t confirm this either way, so these open questions will have to wait for further reporting.

*This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Geinou/Sports News+) thread “Yasuko Responds to Concerns Over Her Children’s Cafeteria’s LINE Reservation Method — ‘Won’t It Fail to Reach Truly Poor Kids?’ — ‘We’re Coordinating with Schools’.”
