  • Kinashi Noriyuki Slammed for Denting a Rapper’s Luxury Car — 5ch: ‘A Quarter-Century Too Late’

Kinashi Noriyuki of Tunnels caused a stir on the ABEMA music show “Kinashi Record” when he appeared to damage rapper SHO’s gold Mercedes-Benz during SHO’s guest appearance — and four months after the episode aired, the clip is drawing fresh criticism. On 5ch, many pointed to the old story of Beat Takeshi trashing Sanma’s car, arguing that the rough-and-tumble stunts of classic variety TV don’t fly anymore, while others defended Kinashi with “that’s just his comedic style” — opinion split down the middle.

Kinashi Noriyuki (64) of Tunnels hosts “Kinashi Record” (ABEMA), a music show where he invites hip-hop artists on for jam sessions and free-flowing talk. The show is about to mark its second anniversary since launching in December 2024, but “a certain move” Kinashi made in an episode from roughly four months ago is now causing a stir.

Drawing attention is the April 25 episode featuring guest SHO (44), a rapper and former member of Japan’s national alpine skiing team. Kinashi and SHO gave a passionate live-band rendition of Yosui Inoue’s (78) classic hit “Shonen Jidai” (“Boyhood Days”), followed by an easygoing, friendly chat segment.

But controversy erupted when SHO’s prized car — a Mercedes-Benz painted gold — made its appearance.

There's a certain unpleasant kind of comedy unique to old TV, isn't there — like the Drifters skit with the tilted house where they dump piles of food everywhere. I have no idea what's supposed to be funny about it.

Back then, when they pulled stuff like this, it was more that Ishibashi's intimidating presence made it something nobody dared question. But now he's on his own, times have changed, it's not even Fuji TV — something just feels off.

Takeshi wrecking Sanma's car was funny up through maybe the early 2000s.

This is a quarter-century too late. Not being able to read that shift is a sign of aging, too.

    Re: 'wrecked his car' —

wait, did they actually total the real thing and hand back a new car? Or was it a loaner they trashed while the real one stayed fine?

    Background and points of contention

“Kinashi Record” airs on ABEMA, not on terrestrial Fuji TV — yet the thread frames it as part of “the reckless antics of Fuji TV’s golden age,” lumping it in with the old story of Beat Takeshi trashing Sanma’s car as part of the “destroy stuff for laughs” tradition that defined Heisei-era variety TV at its peak. The core criticism is that this kind of rough-and-tumble comedy no longer flies as generations and the times change, exposing a gap between the performers’ sensibilities and today’s viewers. At the same time, defenses like “that’s just Kinashi’s comedic style” and “an entertainer does the bit once he’s called on for it” show the debate isn’t purely generational — it also reflects differing views on whether this kind of rowdy comedy should be tolerated at all. Note that exactly how Kinashi damaged SHO’s car isn’t made clear by the thread’s posts alone; the original article goes into more detail on that point.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Entertainment/Sports News+) thread “‘It’s outdated,’ says Kinashi Noriyuki — after denting a luxury car, criticism erupts over the popular rapper’s revealed damage, as ‘Fuji TV’s golden-age rough-and-tumble’ fails to land.”

  • Is Demon Slayer’s ‘All-Time #1 Box Office’ Really Proof It’s the Best Ever? 5ch Debates

The theatrical version of Demon Slayer holds the record for Japan’s highest box office gross of all time, but that number sparked debate on 5ch’s Nandemo Jikkyo G board (a general live-discussion board) over whether it really makes the film “the most interesting work in Japanese history.” Posters pushed back one after another, arguing that box office revenue is skewed by inflation, ticket sales figures, and repeat viewers buying tickets again just for merchandise, so it isn’t a straightforward measure of popularity or quality. The thread brought up comparisons with Spirited Away, the long-reigning former #1, and traded analogies like Cup Noodle — “best-selling doesn’t mean best-tasting.”

    Re: #102
Demon Slayer hasn't won any film awards, has it.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Mugen Train, released in 2020, overtook the long-reigning Spirited Away to become Japan’s all-time #1 domestic box office earner. Japan’s box office rankings are a simple comparison of nominal yen totals with no inflation adjustment, so films from eras with higher ticket prices structurally tend to post bigger numbers. Where the thread split was over whether to treat that raw revenue figure as proof of quality, or to discount it for other factors like attendance numbers, repeat-viewer rates, and merchandise purchases. As with the comparison to Cup Noodle sales, a fair number of posters argued that selling well and being genuinely good aren’t the same thing.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Nandemo Jikkyo G) thread “[Mystery] A ‘man-san’ (mildly mocking 5ch slang for a female poster) claims: ‘Demon Slayer’s movie is #1 in all-time box office revenue. So that makes it the most interesting film in Japanese history, right?’ ← this.”

Commenters also pointed to the earnings behind game-commentary videos and Kano’s likable personality as key drivers of his popularity.

I watched London Hearts a lot back then so I remember this well — when Kano first showed up he had that host-club playboy character, so he came off as kind of insufferable and got hit pretty hard by the other comedians.
But gradually people started realizing Eiko-chan was just naturally airheaded, and Fujimon was the first to catch on and protect him.
While the other comedians were being harsh on him, Fujimon would do bits like holding Eiko-chan's hand as a joke.
That's when people started thinking "oh, this kid's just naturally like that," and on 5TA his unexpected talents came out and he became a beloved character.
I'm not a fan of Fujimon, but he was the first one to protect Kano when people mistook him for a sleazy playboy and attacked him for it.
Fujimon looks out for Nadal too.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

A YouTube subscriber count is a metric specific to an individual channel, not an industry-wide benchmark like TV ratings. A figure of 3 million puts him among the top tier of individual Japanese YouTubers, but it’s worth noting that the earnings figures cited in the thread, like “10 million yen per stream,” aren’t public data — they’re speculation from 5ch users, and differ from actual ad rates or Super Chat totals. There was also a comment suggesting that game-commentary earnings don’t get returned to game developers, but in most cases, publishers officially license such commentary as a form of advertising and promotion rather than it being unauthorized use. The circumstances behind Kano’s past hiatus are something he has commented on publicly himself, and are treated here as a separate topic from this news story’s main subject: his subscriber milestone.

    17AnonymousSep 1, 2026 18:46
There was one for Ikuta's graduation concert too —
a T-shirt with member visuals front and center.
    It was a bit pricey.

Guess I'll just get the penlight then
    24AnonymousSep 1, 2026 18:49
On a white shirt, with this little color area it's basically pointless anyway, so having the photo on it might actually be the better call

Either way I'll be the one drawing it — do you like that old-school design style, or should I try something with a cooler touch~?
I've already got the non-T-shirt merch planned out, so look forward to it 🥰🥰

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Idol concert merchandise conventionally reflects each member’s assigned “member color” in the color scheme of penlights, towels, and T-shirts, and fans have a culture of closely comparing the shade and placement of those colors down to the smallest detail. The T-shirt that became a hot topic this time minimizes the area devoted to member colors and instead features a large photo of the member’s face, drawing negative reactions such as “I can’t wear this anywhere but the concert” and “this looks phoned-in,” alongside a counterargument that “if the color area’s going to be this small anyway, having a photo on it is actually the better option.” This brings to the surface a design trade-off merchandise producers face — creating a unified look through limited color use versus appealing through individual member photos — and it’s less a matter of one being objectively right than a question of personal taste. The thread also shared plenty of practical information useful to buyers, such as the mail-order start time and expected shipping schedules, showing that alongside the design debate there was strong real-world interest in simply “will it arrive in time.”

  • Kitao Akira: ‘Whoever Invented Pre-Cut Vegetables Is a Genius’ — Praises Supermarket Bestseller

Former women’s pro wrestler and TV personality Kitao Akira appeared on TOKYO MX’s “5-ji ni Muchu!” on September 1 and praised pre-cut vegetables sold at supermarkets, saying “I think whoever came up with that is a genius.” The show also featured survey results on how often different generations use kitchen knives. The comment sparked a thread on 5ch, where opinions were split: some praised the products as “convenient and a lifesaver” and said “the pre-cut garnish scallions are the one thing I buy,” while others raised safety and nutrition concerns, saying they’re “washed in sodium hypochlorite, which isn’t good for you” or that “vitamins leach out, lowering their nutritional value,” and still others questioned “why bother paying extra for something like this.”

    23AnonymousSep 1, 2026 17:44
The bags of pre-cut vegetables are filled with acetylene gas to keep them from spoiling. Once you cut them, they start rotting from the cut surface, which is why this wasn't possible before. Open the bag and you can watch it rot before your eyes.

Sodium hypochlorite is used in the manufacturing process of pre-cut vegetables, so it's very dangerous to the human body.

If you want to live a long life, don't eat it.
    32AnonymousSep 1, 2026 17:49
Water-soluble vitamins definitely leach out (fat-soluble vitamins and minerals probably survive), and it doesn't keep as long.

    What's so genius about that?
    33AnonymousSep 1, 2026 17:50
I'll buy it if it's marked down cheap, but "convenient because it's pre-cut" isn't a reason I'd buy it.
    34AnonymousSep 1, 2026 17:50

    56AnonymousSep 1, 2026 18:04
Not everything needs to be trashed. If you want to cut it yourself, fine — but even if it costs a bit more, pre-cut saves effort, you use it all up, and it's convenient.
    58AnonymousSep 1, 2026 18:06
    Re: #56
You're just trying to justify yourself.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

In the manufacturing process for pre-cut vegetables, it’s standard practice to wash them with sodium hypochlorite or hypochlorous acid water for sterilization, and to seal the bags with a nitrogen/CO2 gas mix to prevent discoloration and spoilage — one poster in the thread even corrected their own earlier claim of “acetylene gas.” Hypochlorous acid-based agents are approved as food additives and are widely used in school lunches and restaurant chains too, but the thread reached no consensus on safety, with claims that it’s “not good for you” running up against counterarguments that “it’s used in plenty of other foods too.” It is a food-science fact that cutting and washing cause water-soluble vitamins to diminish, but whether that makes it “not genius” is where opinions diverged — voices prioritizing convenience were roughly matched by those worried about nutrition and price.

  • Familiar Faces in NHK Street-Interview Duo Spark “Was This Staged?” Buzz Online

Two women who appeared in an NHK street-interview segment were recognized by users on 5ch, sparking a thread on the Geinou/Sports Breaking News+ board (“Geisoku Sokuho+”) full of reactions like “Was this staged?” and “I was shocked when they showed up.” The interviewees are reportedly Emi Ando and Nonoko, and it’s the fact that they were presented as ordinary passersby that caught social media’s attention. The thread split between those who think “good-looking people are simply more likely to get picked for street interviews” and those who suspect “the network arranges people in advance,” with the discussion eventually drifting into complaints about NHK’s low license-fee subscription rate.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Suspicion of “staged” street interviews isn’t a new topic — it’s long been known that in places like train stations and busy shopping districts, where passersby tend to be reluctant to be interviewed, TV networks sometimes secure interviewees through casting agencies or extras agencies. Whether these two women are actually affiliated with an agency hasn’t been confirmed as of this writing; the thread’s claim that the name “Emi Ando” looked familiar is limited to a connection with mahjong-related media, and no official explanation or confirmation has come from the show itself. The debate mainly splits into two camps: a “natural selection” theory — that better-looking people are simply more willing to be interviewed — and a “staging” theory — that the network arranges people in advance — and neither has been settled. Some replies also drifted into the separate topic of NHK’s declining license-fee payment rate, which should be read as distinct from the question of whether this particular interview was genuine.

  • Kazlaser: ‘Shinjuku Is the Most Livable Spot in Tokyo’ — Better Than ‘Suburban’ Setagaya

Kazlaser, of the comedy duo Maple Chogokin, named Shinjuku as the most livable area in Tokyo on the August 28 broadcast of the radio show “Weekly! Shaberaser,” saying it’s “way better than suburban Setagaya.” The show also introduced the Mori Memorial Foundation’s “National City Evaluation Ranking,” noting that among 136 cities nationwide (excluding Tokyo’s 23 wards), Osaka City took first place, Hamamatsu City ranked 13th, and Shizuoka City ranked 14th. On the 5ch thread, opinions split over which part of Shinjuku he actually meant, with some pointing out that “Shinjuku” covers very different-feeling districts — Yotsuya, Ushigome, and Yodobashi — while others brought up the lack of supermarkets in the area.

Kazlaser of comedy duo Maple Chogokin appeared on the radio program “Weekly! Shaberaser” (SBS Radio) on the 28th and talked about the most livable area in Tokyo.

The show also covered news of the “National City Evaluation Ranking,” released by the Mori Memorial Foundation, a think tank under Mori Building.

In the ranking, which evaluated 136 cities nationwide (excluding Tokyo’s 23 wards), Osaka City came out on top, while within Shizuoka Prefecture, Hamamatsu City placed 13th and Shizuoka City 14th, with category breakdowns like “environment” and “transportation access” highlighted for each city.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

The Mori Memorial Foundation’s “National City Evaluation Ranking” scores multiple categories — including economy, research, cultural exchange, livability, environment, and transportation access — to rank 136 cities nationwide, excluding Tokyo’s 23 wards. This time, Osaka City took the overall top spot, while Hamamatsu City (13th) and Shizuoka City (14th) from Shizuoka Prefecture also made the list. It’s worth noting that the “livability” Kazlaser talked about on air wasn’t drawn from this ranking’s actual figures, but was based on his own personal experience of living there. Where the thread split was over whether Shinjuku can really be lumped together as one area — many pointed out a big gap in living environment between the Yodobashi district, home to Kabukicho, and the quieter Yotsuya and Ushigome districts. While the area around Shinjuku Gyoen was praised as quiet with few people around, commenters also specifically flagged the practical downside of having few nearby supermarkets, underscoring how “livability” discussions tend to gloss over differences within a single district.

On September 1, Shoko Nakagawa posted simply “This is why I hate X” on her own X account. She gave no reason, and the post has been read as hinting at social-media fatigue. On 5ch threads, some voices expressed sympathy and concern, while others coldly pointed to past controversies — including a stray-cat rescue incident and comments about the Switch 2 — calling it “self-inflicted.” The discussion ended up focusing less on the intent behind the post and more on Nakagawa’s past behavior.

Now it feels like the whole world is packed with people who just deny, nitpick, abuse, and obsessively cling on — way too many unpleasant types

Background and Key Points of This Story

Since 2025, Shoko Nakagawa has repeatedly become a target of online debate — over posts about a stray cat she rescued and comments about how she obtained a Switch 2 through a lottery — and this latest “This is why I hate X” post has, to some extent, been read as an extension of that pattern. Suggestive posts that don’t explain their reasoning tend to draw sympathy easily, but because the true intent is unclear, they also invite speculation. In this thread too, sympathetic voices arguing “if she’s tired, she should just take a break” existed alongside skeptical ones — informed by her past history — asking “isn’t this self-inflicted?” It’s not unusual for a celebrity’s social-media-fatigue post to trigger this kind of polarized reaction, and the response in this thread is a typical example of that.

  • Pundit Blurts Out a Banned Broadcast Word on Miyaneya — Host Miyane Apologizes: ‘I’m Terribly Sorry’

During the September 1, 2026 broadcast of Nippon TV’s “Miyaneya,” a former head of the Kanagawa Prefectural Police’s First Investigation Division — appearing remotely to give his take on a case in which the owner of a long-established Japanese confectionery shop in Mine, Yamaguchi Prefecture was killed and his wife seriously injured — used a term considered banned from broadcast while explaining a possible motive for the attacker targeting the victim’s head. The show displayed a caption reading “There was an inappropriate expression,” and host Seiji Miyane apologized, saying “I’m terribly sorry about that.” On 5channel, discussion centered on the fact that many viewers couldn’t actually make out what word was said, the point that “banned broadcast words” aren’t a legal category but merely a self-imposed restriction by broadcasters, and generational differences in sensitivity to such language.

    Tue, 9/1, 4:24 PM

During the live broadcast of Nippon TV’s “Information Live Miyaneya” (weekdays, 1:55 PM) on the 1st, a segment aired in which a guest used a banned broadcast term, followed by an apology.

The segment was covering a case in Mine, Yamaguchi Prefecture, in which the owner of a long-established Japanese confectionery shop was killed and his wife was also seriously injured. Discussing the victim, who had been targeted in the head, a former head of the Kanagawa Prefectural Police’s First Investigation Division — appearing remotely as an expert commentator — gave his view: “If the attacker aims for the head and the victim doesn’t end up dying… they won’t be able to live a normal life, and if they can’t talk anymore, that would suit the culprit just fine — maybe that’s why they go for the head,” using an expression considered banned from broadcast as he spoke.

    That's just insane

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

There’s no legal category called “banned broadcast words” in Japan — as the thread itself points out, it’s simply a self-imposed list each broadcaster draws up on its own, often shaped by requests from human rights groups. “Katawa” is an old derogatory term for a physically disabled person that fell out of use in broadcasting and public life following the disability rights movement of the 1970s–80s. Because the remark aired live, many viewers couldn’t actually make out which word was used, and the thread’s recurring reaction of “nobody actually knows what he said” is background that doesn’t come through from the article text alone. The generational gap in sensitivity to such language was also a talking point — less a question of discriminatory intent and more a sign of how the standard for acceptable vocabulary in broadcasting and journalism has shifted over time.

  • “Put Your Clothes On, Die Instantly”: Bizarre Horror Film ‘Cursed Zone’ Where You Must Strip to Survive Opens October 16

The horror-meets-erotic film ‘Cursed Zone’ (Juku), built around the premise “put your clothes on and you die instantly,” has been confirmed for release on October 16. Set on land that was once an execution ground centuries ago, the story follows protagonists hunted by the vengeful ghosts of villagers who were executed naked — the only way to survive is to strip down, since “the ghosts can’t see you once your clothes are off.” The film will also have its world premiere in the Midnight Xtreme section of the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival, which opens October 8. On 5ch, some found the premise itself amusing, while many others were skeptical about the cast’s name recognition and how much skin the film would actually show.

    August 31, 2026

It has been decided that the horror-meets-erotic entertainment film ‘Cursed Zone,’ built around the unusual premise “put your clothes on and you die instantly,” will open on October 16. It was also announced that the film will have its world premiere in the Midnight Xtreme section of the 59th Sitges-Catalonia International Film Festival, held in Spain starting October 8.

The story follows Tsumugi, a protagonist carrying past trauma, who visits a campsite with former members of her high school track team and confronts brutal terror. Centuries ago, the land was an execution ground, and the villagers who were put to death there naked have haunted it as vengeful spirits every night since, attacking anyone who comes near. Caught in the attacks, the women discover a desperate rule — the ghosts can’t see them once they’ve stripped — and are forced to undress in a fight for survival.

You go make the movie then

    Background and talking points

The Sitges-Catalonia International Film Festival, where ‘Cursed Zone’ will have its world premiere, is an international festival centered on horror, sci-fi, and cult films, and its Midnight Xtreme section in particular is known for gathering works with extreme content. On the thread, some pointed out the convenient, plot-device nature of the “strip and you’re invisible” premise, while many others were skeptical about how much skin the film would actually show, given that the cast belongs to ordinary talent agencies rather than being adult-video performers. That said, horror-erotic hybrid films are a genre that has found a certain amount of demand at overseas festivals in recent years, so it’s not something that can simply be dismissed as a novelty act. With only pre-release information available, the actual amount of exposure and the exact scope of the R15 rating remain unknown, so it’s worth keeping in mind that much of the thread’s raunchy speculation is exactly that — speculation.
