  • Aimer Announces Birth of First Child — 5ch: “Wait, I Thought You Meant the Soccer Player Until Just Now”

On September 7, singer Aimer announced via her own X (formerly Twitter) account that she has given birth to her first child. By coincidence, the date also marks the 15th anniversary of her major-label debut. In her post, she revealed that she has left Ageha Springs Inc., the agency she had belonged to for many years, and has set up a new management company together with her husband, composer Masahiro Tobinai, through which she will continue her music career independently going forward. On the thread, users repeatedly joked about confusing her with the Argentine footballer of a similar name, “Aimar,” alongside comments celebrating her by naming past hit songs such as “Ito” (Thread) and the Demon Slayer theme, as well as comments wondering whether her tie-in work with anime and other franchises will continue now that she’s independent.

Aimer announced the birth of her first child through her own X account.

Today, September 7, marks Aimer’s 15th anniversary since her major-label debut. Her post announcing the birth included the message, “I have safely given birth to my first child. Both mother and baby are doing well,” along with the following: “As I welcomed this new life, I thought more deeply than ever about taking responsibility for the choices in my life and, as a more grown version of myself, deepening my expression in a way that stays true to my heart. As part of creating the right environment for that, I have decided to leave Ageha Springs Inc., who took care of me for so many years, and have set up a new management company together with composer Masahiro Tobinai, and will carry on my music career under an independent setup going forward.” She reports that she will now continue her music activities through the management company she has founded together with her husband, Tobinai.

    Background and Talking Points

Ageha Springs, the agency Aimer had belonged to until now, is a music production company that has also worked with artists like Ayaka and miwa, and under its umbrella Aimer released numerous tie-in songs for anime, other artists, and live-action works throughout her career. This move to independence is being framed, in her own words, as a decision made in the wake of life changes brought on by childbirth and parenting — to “take responsibility for the choices in my life and deepen my expression in a way that stays true to my heart” — and nothing in the thread suggests any trouble with her former agency. The main point of debate on the thread was whether her tie-in work with Sony-affiliated labels and anime/game titles will continue after going independent, with some pointing out that her record label contract and her management contract are separate matters. Meanwhile, the recurring “Aimar” joke in the thread refers to Argentine footballer Pablo Aimar, whose name sounds similar in Japanese — it has nothing to do with the singer herself.

  • “Sgt. Frog” New Series Recasts All 5 Main Voice Actors, Keroro Now Played by Makoto Koichi — 5ch: ‘Surprised How Natural It Sounds’

It has emerged that the anime “Sgt. Frog” (Keroro Gunso) is replacing all five of its main cast members for its new series, including Kumiko Watanabe, who has voiced Keroro for years. Taking over the roles are Makoto Koichi as Keroro, Rika Nagae as Tamama, Toshiki Masuda as Giroro, Kousuke Echigoya as Kururu, and Keishi Inomata as Dororo. On the 5ch Geino/Sports News+ board, some posters praised the new cast’s performances as “surprisingly natural,” while others, noting the lukewarm reception of the theatrical film released just before the switch, lamented that “it’s a shame the old cast’s final work ended on that note” — opinions were split.

The longtime main cast consisted of Kumiko Watanabe as Sgt. Keroro, Etsuko Kozakura as Private Tamama, Joji Nakata as Corporal Giroro, Takehito Koyasu as Sergeant Major Kururu, Tsuyoshi Kusao as Corporal Dororo, Noriko Kuwashima as Fuyuki Hinata, and Chiwa Saito as Natsumi Hinata.

The new cast has Makoto Koichi as Sgt. Keroro, Rika Nagae as Private Tamama, Toshiki Masuda as Corporal Giroro, Kousuke Echigoya as Sergeant Major Kururu, and Keishi Inomata as Corporal Dororo.

    Background and Key Points

“Sgt. Frog” (Keroro Gunso) is a long-running series that began airing in 2004, with Kumiko Watanabe and four other main cast members voicing their roles for over 20 years. This full cast overhaul comes with the launch of a new series, and recasting itself isn’t unusual — but because it coincided with a period when the theatrical film released just beforehand was reportedly underperforming at the box office, the view that “the old cast couldn’t go out on a high note” stood out in the thread. At the same time, many posters praised the new cast’s performances as sounding “completely natural,” and the gap between how unfamiliar the names looked on paper versus how the cast actually sounded became a talking point. It should be noted that comments about the film’s box office performance and internal production circumstances remain unsourced hearsay and speculation rather than confirmed fact. The fact that this airs as a morning children’s program rather than a late-night anime also appears to be one reason the casting is being judged along two different lines — by adult longtime fans versus the show’s actual target audience of children.

*This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Geino/Sports News+) thread “‘Sgt. Frog’ Cast Overhaul — Keroro: Makoto Koichi, Tamama: Rika Nagae, Giroro: Toshiki Masuda, Kururu: Kousuke Echigoya, Dororo: Keishi Inomata.”

  • Matsuko Deluxe Slams Logo-Obsessed Brand Wearers: “Those Are the First People I Can’t Trust”

Appearing on TOKYO MX’s “5-ji ni Muchu!,” Matsuko Deluxe used a segment about an article on the difference between thriftiness and stinginess to bluntly dismiss people who obsess over brand-logo clothing: “Honestly, those are the first people I can’t trust.” Pushing back on the article’s argument that investing in your appearance is necessary, she offered her own take that it’s really just “birds of a feather” social strategizing. The remark sparked a 5ch thread where the discussion drifted from “luxury brands” in the strict sense to outdoor and sports brands like The North Face, Mont-bell, and Adidas, with posters divided over exactly where the line falls for a “cringe brand” that flaunts its logo too hard.

    9/7 (Mon) 17:48

Talent Matsuko Deluxe appeared live as the Monday commentator on TOKYO MX’s “5-ji ni Muchu!” (weekdays, 5 p.m.) on the 7th, and at one point shared her personal take on people who care a lot about appearance, such as by wearing clothes with brand logos.

In that day’s “Daily BINKAN Ranking” segment, the show introduced an article about the difference between thriftiness and stinginess. The biggest difference between the two, the article argued, comes down to whether you spend money where it’s needed. Stingy people simply don’t want to spend money at all, and won’t invest even in things they need. Spending on clothing, materials, tuition, and other things that improve yourself is necessary — and clothing spending makes the point clearest: stingy people keep wearing a suit even when the hem is frayed or dirty, thinking it would be “a waste” to replace it, but few people want to work with someone dressed so shabbily, so even a genuinely talented person can end up missing out on moneymaking opportunities. Asked about the article, Matsuko commented, “I think there’s some truth to it, but in the end… it’s not exactly ‘birds of a feather,’ but it’s basically advice on how to get yourself into a clique of people you don’t even like, isn’t it.”

    Background and Key Points

The story originated from a Yahoo News article about the difference between thriftiness and stinginess, which argued that skimping on self-improvement investments like personal appearance can cost you work opportunities. Matsuko’s remark was made off the back of that article, and in context appears to target “logo-heavy luxury brands.” The 5ch discussion, however, drifted into the merits of outdoor and sports brands like The North Face, Mont-bell, and Adidas, heating up in a way that veered somewhat from the original luxury-brand argument. On whether it’s fair to judge people by appearance, opinions split between “clothing is something you choose yourself, unlike things you’re born with, so it’s fair game as a judgment call” and pushback along the lines of “don’t judge by appearance” — no clear consensus emerged. • Tomomi Itano’s Changing-Room Photo Scandal: Her Lawyer Fires Off Deletion Demands, Then Deletes Everything Himself — 5ch: ‘Total Wipe-and-Run lol’

Tomomi Itano was already under fire over filming in the large communal bath at The Ritz-Carlton Nikko, after the hotel officially denied giving permission, stating it “never authorized filming in the changing area.” Now an account claiming to be Itano’s lawyer has hit back, insisting “proper filming permission was obtained for designated areas, including the changing room,” and reportedly fired off a string of 24-hour deletion demands at critical posters, citing defamation and business obstruction by fraudulent means. But when one recipient asked for permission to publish the lawyer’s DMs, every post from the lawyer’s account vanished — undercutting the claim entirely. On 5ch, opinions split over whether the response was appropriate, and whether the account really belongs to a lawyer at all.

Tomomi Itano’s filming in the large communal bath at The Ritz-Carlton Nikko drew criticism and sparked a firestorm. Itano maintains she filmed with the hotel’s permission, but the hotel itself, in an interview with Shukan Josei PRIME, said, “Permission to film on the premises was limited to areas where filming is allowed” and “We never authorized filming in the changing area, etc.” — a major development in the story.

    Itano's lawyer:
"We did a pre-check of the footage with the hotel, and
carried this out with proper filming permission for
designated areas including the changing room."
"This was legal filming done with clear authorization."

I got a deletion demand from a lawyer identifying himself as Tomomi Itano's representative, claiming my post created a "false impression" amounting to defamation and business obstruction by fraudulent means, giving me 24 hours to comply.

The demand claims proper filming permission was obtained for designated areas including the changing room. Before deleting anything, I've asked him to confirm the facts and give permission to publish the DMs — still waiting on a reply.

Maybe that's why, even the ones who are shady about money, are still sincere about medicine.

With lawyers, a lot of them just graduate from a law faculty, figure they've got a shot, and go on to law school (ロースクール) after that —
so plenty of them pick the job after 22 because it looks profitable.
(Sure, there are geniuses who aim for it at 18 and pass the bar while still in undergrad, but they're a minority.)
That's why so many — especially the young ones — have already ditched any pride or morals as legal professionals.

It wasn't even that big a deal, but Itano and her lawyer are the ones desperately pouring gasoline on the fire lol.
Reminds me of the Jiro Sato incident (a Japanese actor involved in a similar self-inflicted controversy).
This whole thing would've blown over if they'd just said "sorry, I'll reflect on it" and left it at that.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

This all started with filming in the large communal bath at The Ritz-Carlton Nikko, after the hotel told Shukan Josei PRIME that it “never authorized filming in the changing area.” In response, an account claiming to be Itano’s representative lawyer countered that “proper filming permission was obtained for designated areas including the changing room,” and a poster who received a deletion demand over a critical post — citing “defamation and business obstruction by fraudulent means” with a 24-hour deadline — made the exchange public. The thread mainly split over whether this lawyer account is genuine, and whether the response was “routine work in line with the client’s wishes” or “one lawyer going rogue.” One easily overlooked point: the “delete within 24 hours” demand itself carries no legal force and is merely a formal notice, as one reply (#109) pointed out — and as of this reporting, the authenticity of the DMs and the account holder’s identity had not been confirmed. A real firm name, Toranomon Law & Economics Office, has come up, but the possibility of impersonation hasn’t been ruled out either.

  • Tomomi Itano Sparks Controversy With ‘My Daughter Goes to International School,’ ‘Our Housekeeper Is From Overseas’ Remarks

Former AKB48 member and talent Tomomi Itano (35) has become a hot topic online after revealing on the ABEMA show “Super Nobishiro Time,” which aired on August 26, that her 4-year-old daughter attends an international school and that her family employs a housekeeper from overseas. The show features teenage female contestants being judged, with Itano appearing as a judge. On 5ch, many commenters took the remarks as coming across as a flex (“looks like humble-bragging”), while others took a more measured view, calling it “a common pattern among celebrities” or “not an unusual culture overseas.” Some defended her outright, saying “as long as Itano’s happy, that’s fine” — reactions were split.

Tomomi Itano’s “My Daughter Goes to International School,” “Our Housekeeper Is From Overseas” Remarks Cause a Stir — Why Does the “Glamorous Tomochin” Rub People the Wrong Way?

A surprise proposal with 108 red roses, a married life of being “doted on” by a husband six years her junior, a 4-year-old daughter attending international school, and a housekeeper from overseas — the “glamorous private life” that former AKB48 member, talent, and entrepreneur Tomomi Itano (35) revealed on air has become a hot topic online.

Itano appeared on ABEMA’s “Super Nobishiro Time by Kyou, Suki ni Narimashita,” which aired on August 26. The show has teenage female contestants competing to show off their “cutely calculated charm” techniques, with Itano serving as a judge.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Hiring household help from overseas isn’t unusual in Asian cities like Hong Kong or Singapore, some of which even have established systems for employing Filipino domestic workers. Since this kind of setup isn’t common in Japan, the same facts can easily come across as “flaunting luxury.” Beyond opinions on Itano’s remarks themselves, the thread also featured plenty of entertainment-industry context — discussion of her rising and falling popularity since her AKB48 days, and comparisons with other former members. That said, it’s worth noting that the remarks may simply have reflected the role she was asked to play on the show, and whether they were truly meant as a “flex” is something only Itano herself knows — much of the online interpretation has taken on a life of its own as if it were established fact.

But this Fuji thing? It's just not funny, the setup is a sloppy con job from the script stage, and it's painfully obvious no budget or brainpower went into it at all.
I get that Fuji is in seriously dire financial straits right now, but if that's the case, I'd at least like to see the kind of scrappy, budget-conscious ingenuity that poorer networks like TV Asahi or TV Tokyo manage to pull off.

    Background and Key Points

The format used in “Dokkiri GP” — gathering multiple people together when only one will actually be chosen — is nothing new; it’s a technique also used by shows like “Suiyoubi no Downtown.” What divided opinion in the thread wasn’t so much whether the premise itself was acceptable, but the quality of the execution in light of Fuji TV’s recent financial struggles, with many commenters pointing to a lack of budget and creative effort compared to other networks. On the other hand, some posts noted that the performers who weren’t chosen seemed satisfied with their compensation, leading to a more skeptical view of the harsher criticism, since none of the people directly involved had actually complained. Fuji TV has faced growing scrutiny over its management and program production in recent years, and this reaction appears to be part of that broader wave.

Fuji TV has announced that its beloved variety special “Arioshi’s Summer Vacation 2026: 77 Hours Embedded in Hawaii” will air on November 14. Now entering its 14th year since the series began in 2013, this marks the first time the show has ever aired in November. Along with Hiroyuki Arioshi, the lineup includes Ungirls’ Tanaka, Sayaka’s Niiyama, Bibiru Ohki, Heisei Nobushikobushi’s Yoshimura, and Kayo Noro, with Elf’s Arakawa joining as a first-time new cast member. On 5ch, the thread filled up with comments questioning the odd timing (“summer vacation in November?”), debating why the show keeps going, and discussing the cast changes.

    September 6, 2026

With a “baby boom” underway among the cast — including Arioshi, Tanaka, and Yoshimura — the special also throws a big celebration for their new arrivals. It’s a full-on celebratory mood, featuring rare glimpses of the guys as dads, parenting talk, and even some party-trick performances.

Last time, when someone lightly teased Noro, Arioshi got hit with a wave of criticism for it — but honestly, 90% of the Noro-teasing actually came from Yoshimura, who kept relentlessly making fat jokes about her.

    Background and Talking Points

“Arioshi’s Summer Vacation” is well known as a special with strong tie-in ties to Hawaii tourism promotion, now entering its 14th year since it began in 2013. On the thread, comments mocking the show’s very existence as a “tourism commercial” mixed with more favorable reactions to the celebratory tone around the cast’s recent string of new babies. No clear reason for the unusual November air date is given in the article itself, but some commenters pointed out that last year’s broadcast had to cut back on-location filming due to a tsunami warning, suggesting the irregular production schedule may be a factor. Beyond just a feel-good celebratory special, the thread also reflects real viewer interest in Fuji TV’s financial situation and how it structures its programming lineup.

  • Togashi Yoshihiro’s Hunter x Hunter Wraps Its 10-Week Run Right on Schedule — Next Chapter’s Release Date Unknown

Togashi Yoshihiro’s Hunter x Hunter went on hiatus in the September 7 issue of Jump (2026 issue 41), wrapping up its ten-week run of consecutive chapters exactly as most fans predicted. No date has been given for when it’ll return. This installment once again followed Kurapika, the Phantom Troupe, and Gon and Killua, but concerns that this could turn into another extended hiatus remain strong. On the thread, criticism that “only this author gets away with taking breaks like this” collided with defenses like “at least he’s still drawing” and “still faster than Vagabond,” and the discussion spiraled out into the industry’s whole hiatus culture.

    2026.09.07

The consecutive serialization of Togashi Yoshihiro’s manga Hunter x Hunter came to an end with the September 7 (Monday) issue of Weekly Shonen Jump 2026 issue 41 (Shueisha).

As most fans had predicted beforehand, it wrapped up after a ten-week consecutive run.

It's probably paced around finishing one whole tankobon volume at a time — finish a volume's worth → serialize it in Jump → go on hiatus to work on the volume release and the next batch → publish again once it's all ready. Seems to be the cycle.

That 'chapter' had Gon get healed and revived by Killua's sister, then Killua heads off to travel with her, so he and Gon part ways for a while — and Gon goes straight from there to meet and talk with Ging. That's where it ends. The Troupe, meanwhile, is on the same ship right now desperately hunting for Hisoka.

This is exactly why hearing 'it's back in serialization' doesn't make me want to read it. There are already way too many characters to keep track of, and then after writing a bit it goes right back into a long hiatus. I bet an AI Togashi finishes it before the real Togashi does. Honestly I think that's the joke Togashi himself is making in the manga — getting 'Laplace'd' (a nod to the manga's own predictive 'Laplace's Demon' ability).
    50AnonymousSep 7, 2026 14:53
And it's not just this time — the fact that he sets up a cliffhanger right before every hiatus shows it's deliberate, like he's planning to stop at 10 weeks from the very start. Shueisha seriously needs to rein him in and get him in line for once. Just cancel it — someone with this little motivation deserves it. He literally drew the 'rotten mikan theory' in his own story.

Togashi's still fine since his hiatuses actually make news. The truly scary ones are the series on permanent hiatus that don't even get talked about anymore.
Saki — on hiatus more than half of every year, 20 years in with no end in sight.
Kenka Shoubai — serialization's been stopped for 6 years now.
And then there's the legend-tier Vagabond and Bastard!!, both well past 10 years since their last chapter.

    Re: #159
Vagabond gets singled out a lot in these conversations, but it actually quietly got 'finished' through an Inoue-held Vagabond exhibition and an accompanying booklet — though it's not an ending anyone could really accept.

Background and key points of debate

Togashi Yoshihiro is an author known for repeatedly going on hiatus, anywhere from a few weeks to several years at a stretch, and this pattern of “ten weeks of chapters, then another hiatus” has essentially become the norm at this point. Commenters on the thread floated the idea that his workflow follows a cycle tied to finishing one tankobon volume at a time — serializing chapters until a volume’s worth is complete, then focusing on the volume release and writing the next batch before publishing again. The debate centered on whether to view this hiatus-heavy style as “irresponsible” or as “still better than nothing, at least he’s drawing.” For comparison, posters brought up Inoue Takehiko’s Vagabond (on hiatus for over 10 years), as well as Kishimoto Masashi’s Naruto and Araki Hirohiko’s JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, both of which reached clear, definitive endings. One post claiming “the author wants to wrap it up but the editors won’t let him” also circulated, but that’s reader speculation rather than confirmed fact, so it shouldn’t be taken at face value.

    Re: #67
Well, different authors have different philosophies on that
It's rare for a writer to change their pen name to match their new legal name after marriage
but I guess that's just the kind of creature an author is
    89AnonymousSep 7, 2026 14:48
Didn't people used to keep their maiden name as a professional name back in the day?
I mean, it's a pen name anyway, so why not just leave it as is?
Marriage or divorce, whichever it was…
    93AnonymousSep 7, 2026 14:51
    Re: #89
People have always been able to work under their maiden name
She just chose to change it of her own will

    Re: #89
Muroyama Mayumi, who does "Asari-chan" together with her sister,
originally wanted a pen name combining both their first names,
but their editor at the time hated pen names,
so apparently they just went and used the older sister's full real name instead
I guess here too it was either the editor or the authors themselves insisting on real names
    98AnonymousSep 7, 2026 14:57
The author has a choice in the matter — maybe she wanted a fresh start with her new surname?
Plenty of university researchers keep using their maiden name too
And plenty of men marry into their wife's family too, so keeping the old surname isn't only a women's thing
If this author deliberately chose her new surname and outsiders are turning it into a joke, that's kind of sad for her

    Re: #98
For researchers, changing your surname means your pre-marriage papers and research get hard to find in searches
which is basically the same as having all your achievements erased
so a name change from marriage can be a huge blow

Background and Key Points of This Story

Fukuinkan Shoten is a long-established children’s book publisher founded in 1916, and “Guri and Gura” is known as a long-running bestseller since its 1967 publication. This apology came after the company’s post was flagged as “inappropriate,” but the original article never reveals the actual wording of the post, leaving readers unclear on exactly what the issue was. On the 5ch thread, comments split between discomfort at a major publisher posting in such a casual tone and pushback calling the critics “annoying.” The discussion also gradually broadened into the question of how authors and researchers who change their surname through marriage or divorce can maintain continuity with their previous name — a topic some posters related to as a familiar social issue. That said, it’s worth noting that whether this theme was actually connected to the content of the original post can’t be confirmed from the article alone, and remains speculation within the thread.

  • Folk singer Matsuyama Chiharu reveals first grandchild’s name is “Selen” — “Ordinary names are disappearing” comment sparks reaction

Folk singer Matsuyama Chiharu (70) revealed on his radio show broadcast September 6 that his first grandchild’s name is “Selen.” Matsuyama reportedly also remarked, “Ordinary names really are disappearing, aren’t they.” On 5channel, the comment set off a wave of speculation about the origin of the name “Selen,” with users debating whether it derives from “Selene,” the Greek word for “moon,” or evokes the chemical element selenium (atomic number 34). The thread turned into more of an etymology discussion than a debate over the naming choice itself. Some also pointed out that what counts as an “ordinary” name shifts with each generation, noting that old-fashioned women’s names like “Matsu” and “Tome” would seem unusual today.

Folk singer Matsuyama Chiharu (70) appeared live on FM NACK5’s “Matsuyama Chiharu ON THE RADIO” (Sundays at 9 PM) on the 6th, where a moment arose involving his reaction to a listener’s email.

During the live broadcast, Matsuyama read out several listener emails. In this episode, he reacted to one from a listener going by “Miyuto.” “Miyuto… huh. That’s another unusual name,” he said thoughtfully.

What's the origin of 'Selen' anyway?
    Can't even tell if it's a boy's or girl's name

    Maybe it's from "Siren" (セイレーン)?

Japanese women's names have always been kind of thrown together.
Even prewar names like "Tome" and "Matsu" were just picked casually.
So postwar names written with fancy kanji like 万梨阿 ("Marina") or 樹里亜奈 ("Juriana") aren't really surprising either.
Naming girls doesn't need to be taken that seriously.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

In Japanese, “Selen” refers to the chemical element selenium (atomic number 34, also known as an antioxidant supplement ingredient), but overseas it’s also a common given name derived from Selene, the Greek goddess of the moon — and the thread’s etymology debate reflects that dual meaning. What counts as an “ordinary” name has shifted dramatically over time: names like “Tome,” “Matsu,” and “Kin” were mainstream from the Meiji through Showa eras, while in recent years naming trends have favored the sound of a name over the meaning of its kanji. The thread showed a mix of reactions — some pointed out the irony that Matsuyama himself would likely have criticized the name had it belonged to someone else’s grandchild, while others took a more positive view of naming diversity. The original article also introduces several other children’s names read out by listeners that Matsuyama reacted to on air (such as Kouya, Gen, and Miyuto), and the thread’s discussion unfolds partly in comparison to those names.
