  • Chiikawa Merch Resold for ¥2 Million — Debate Erupts Over Scalper “Morality”

A collaboration campaign between sushi chain Kura Sushi and the character Chiikawa was scrapped after fraudulent acquisition of prize items came to light. On flea-market apps, sets of the prizes have gone for tens of thousands of yen, with one listing reportedly fetching ¥2 million, sparking a wave of criticism against resellers online. On the 5ch “Geinou/Sports News+” board, a thread pitted pro-resale posters — who argue “what’s wrong with earning money within the bounds of personal morality?” — against critics who ask “do you really want to take money out of children’s smiles?” Other points raised included the suggestion that companies could prevent this by switching to made-to-order production, along with a counterargument comparing it to drink pricing at izakayas — and the pushback that comparison drew — showing the issue doesn’t break down into simple right and wrong.

Trading cards, limited-edition goods… Is the resale that never stops actually wrong? Pro side: “Being blamed for earning within the bounds of personal morality is unfair.” Anti side: “Do you want to make money even if it means taking away children’s smiles?”

Trouble over resale has piled up, including a collaboration campaign between major conveyor-belt sushi chain Kura Sushi and the popular character Chiikawa, which was cancelled after fraud involving the prizes came to light.

At one point, prize sets were listed on flea-market sites for tens of thousands of yen each, with some going for as much as roughly ¥2 million, drawing a stream of criticism against resellers online.

Honestly I'd rather watch some Osaka night-skyline channel on YouTube than Peace-kun from Omiya Park (a local mascot) anyway.

Reselling is trash, but don't act all noble about "kids' smiles" — you just want it for yourself lol

    That's not a "pro-resale" opinion, that's literally asking a scalper.

No way these scalpers are actually filing tax returns on this.

Why is Chiikawa the only one getting called out?
Demon Slayer, One Piece, and Slam Dunk all had terrible resale problems too.
It's not just the scalpers who are at fault — I'd say Demon Slayer is especially bad since they run bonus campaigns specifically to mobilize scalpers.

Probably because the fanbase is different.
Even regular housewives who aren't anime otaku jump in, so it spirals out of control.

    One thing they're right about:
"if companies don't want their stuff resold, they should just make it made-to-order from the start."
In a way, you could argue companies are letting scalpers buy up stock to squeeze out extra profit themselves.
    16AnonymousSep 14, 2026 01:47
    Re: #12
They already do that kind of thing.
    It still gets resold anyway.

An announcement like "We'll be making XX, please place your order" just doesn't spread very far.

    Re: #12
If a problem that would solve itself without scalpers ends up costing time, money, and effort — and prices go up anyway — it's the same result either way.
Customers also end up with the extra hassle of pre-ordering and picking it up, which lowers their motivation to buy.
A lot of the time, people don't even know if they want something until they actually see it in person.

    It's a tricky issue, but
take something like chuhai or beer at an izakaya — when you get down to it, that's reselling at a marked-up price too.
They're basically just buying up cans from convenience stores or supermarkets and pouring the contents into a mug or glass.
It's not like they're brewing that stuff themselves from scratch.

Selling goods is basically reselling at its core.
As long as you report the income if you're doing it as a side business, isn't that within the realm of morality?

If they want to, consumers can just buy that same chuhai or beer cheaply at the supermarket
    that's the difference.
A scalper's profit comes from breaking the supply-demand balance through artificial supply restriction.
Reselling as a business means snatching up supply meant to be offered at a fair service price, through methods the supplier never anticipated, and profiting by reselling it at a jacked-up price.

    81AnonymousSep 14, 2026 04:48
    Re: #74
That's already been linked for ages lol

Background and Key Points of This Topic

On the subject of resale, the unauthorized resale of concert tickets is regulated by law, but there is generally no law banning the resale of “goods” themselves, such as merchandise or trading cards. The line between legal and illegal is drawn by whether other crimes are involved — such as selling stolen goods or pulling only the winning tickets out of a lottery. In the thread, the phrase “within the bounds of morality” was often used to lump plain resale together with theft- or fraud-like behavior, which is one reason the discussion had trouble converging. Flea-market apps have already been rolling out identity-verification and tax-tracking measures, such as linking accounts to My Number cards, but as long as suppliers keep quantities limited at the fixed retail price, structural pressure means resale that exploits the supply-demand gap won’t disappear on its own. As for the opinion that companies should switch to made-to-order production, it’s easy to overlook that this isn’t such a simple fix, given the difficulty of forecasting demand and the fact that many consumers only decide they want something after seeing the actual product in a store.

※This article is compiled as an excerpt and summary of the 5ch (Geinou/Sports News+) thread “Chiikawa, trading cards, limited-edition goods… Is the resale that never stops actually wrong? Pro side: “Being blamed for earning within the bounds of personal morality is unfair”“.

  • Nozomi Tsuji Reveals Massive Cockroach Infestation at Home — 5ch: “See One, Assume There Are 50”

Talent Nozomi Tsuji (39) revealed on her YouTube channel that her home has been overrun by cockroaches. The confession came right after she talked about her fifth child, little Yumeku, turning one year old, with Tsuji sighing that there are “an insane number of them.” On 5ch, threads lit up with theories about entry points — air conditioner drain hoses and the soil in potted plants — plus heated debates over which pest-control product works better, Black Cap or Mu-ender, with some posters even weighing in on the differences between German cockroaches and smoky-brown/black cockroaches.

Nozomi Tsuji wry-laughs over a “G” infestation at home: “There are so many of them… though thankfully not the huge kind” (“G” is a common Japanese euphemism for cockroach)

Talent Nozomi Tsuji (39) updated her YouTube channel by the 13th, with a segment where she griped about a cockroach infestation at her home.

That same day marked her fifth child, little Yumeku’s, first birthday. She expressed her surprise: “She’d been crying every single day for about the past week to ten days, but yesterday she didn’t cry! The moment she turned one, she just stopped crying!”

For fruit flies, those electric zapper things work pretty well.
Though they don't do anything against mosquitoes, lol

    Background and Talking Points

Black Cap and Mu-ender are both bait-style products laced with insecticide: a roach that eats the bait returns to the nest and dies there, and other roaches that then feed on the poisoned corpse die too, letting the effect spread gradually through the colony — a mechanism some posters in the thread pointed out themselves. Opinions split over whether the products’ effectiveness is fading: some say they’ve used them for years and they still work, while others noted they’re effective on the larger black cockroaches but struggle against German cockroaches, which breed in large colonies. The disagreement over “it’s hot this year” versus “it’s not that hot” also came down to regional differences, like whether you live south of the Tokai region. Worth remembering: entry points like air conditioner drain hoses and the soil of potted plants are easy to overlook.

A thread went up on 5ch’s Livejupiter board (a general “anything goes” discussion board) titled “Top 3 celebrities who seem accidentally saintly,” naming Yoiko’s Arino and Morimoto Leo. Posters swapped stories of Arino being kind even when the cameras weren’t rolling, and recalled comedian Mitsuura Yasuko once calling him “a good guy” — but others pushed back that Morimoto Leo isn’t quite the saint his narration work makes him sound like. The thread also drifted into gripes that hosts like Nakai Masahiro come off as domineering compared to Hamaguchi Masaru, splitting opinion on how much substance really sits behind celebrities’ polished “nice guy” TV image.

    Background and Talking Points

“Gū-sei” (ぐう聖, literally “accidental saint”) is common 5ch slang for someone who comes across as saintly seemingly without trying, and threads like this one often dig into the gap between a celebrity’s polished TV persona and their off-camera reputation. Here too, posters offered several secondhand accounts — claims about behavior “when the cameras weren’t rolling,” or reputations relayed from other celebrities — but it’s worth noting these are all anonymous, unverified anecdotes and hearsay, not statements Arino or Morimoto Leo have made publicly themselves. It’s also worth flagging that the original thread drifted off-topic into posters accusing each other of samefagging (posting under multiple names to fake agreement); this article only excerpts the replies that stayed on the “saintly celebrities” theme.

The original series boasts over 57 million copies in cumulative circulation and has already been adapted into a hit TV anime, but this marks its first-ever live-action adaptation. It was also announced that Ashida Mana will play the protagonist, Maomao. Since no cast beyond Ashida has been announced, there’s buzz over who will play the popular character Jinshi.

Kind of like how I don't get why the Detective Conan movie broke 10 billion yen either.

You can't just assume he has to be an actor on the "my niece would know him" level.
Maybe it's simply that whoever's playing Jinshi is super handsome, so "my niece kept smiling nonstop" is all that really meant.

They've hyped this up so much, I wonder how the cast announcement is even going to land.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

“The Apothecary Diaries” is a hit series that began on “Shousetsuka ni Narou,” with over 57 million copies in cumulative circulation and a hugely successful anime adaptation. This live-action project marks the series’ first such adaptation, and while Ashida Mana has been announced as lead Maomao, the role of the popular character Jinshi remained unannounced as of this writing. The thread floated actor names like Machida Keita and Meguro Ren, while also noting that tabloids had reported Nomura Kota (Sawamura Ikki’s second son) for the part, mixing anticipation with skepticism. The discussion also touched on how the manga adaptation once switched publishers and restarted serialization (due to the illustrator’s tax evasion scandal) — a real, separately reported fact that readers should be careful not to conflate with the Jinshi casting itself. In short, the single phrase “endorsed by the original author” has taken on a life of its own, driving expectations higher and higher even before any cast announcement.

It's just Otokojuku style, I guess. (a nod to the absurdly over-the-top manga 'Sakigake!! Otokojuku,' known for ridiculous not-dead-after-all twists)

    Background and points of debate

“VIVANT” is a popular entry in TBS’s Sunday Theater lineup, and season 2 has drawn just as much attention as the original. The hiatus announcement, however, brought a wave of reactions along the lines of “that’s fewer episodes than I expected.” Opinions in the thread split over the show’s pacing: some viewers see it as careful, deliberate storytelling, while many others feel the rescue operation and the reunion with Kurosu are dragging on too long. Several posts speculated the story would wrap up with a theatrical film, but that’s purely fan speculation — the article itself makes no mention of any sequel or movie in production. The hiatus itself is due to Asian Games coverage, and the finale is confirmed within the show to air on November 8th.

Is clapping back supposed to look cool?
Whether she edits her photos or not is her own business —
    she could've just ignored it.

    Background and Talking Points

Accusations of photo editing follow celebrities constantly on social media, and claims about slimmed-down legs or a smaller face are nothing new. What stood out this time was that Cocomi herself fired back directly, and many on the thread voiced support for her “firm stance.” At the same time, a skeptical view persisted, since the sisters’ posts have drawn editing accusations before, prompting some to ask, “isn’t denying it now a bit contradictory?” Having famous parents — father Takuya Kimura and mother Shizuka Kudo — only amplifies this dynamic, since the sisters’ every move tends to get read either generously or critically, and this episode played out along exactly those lines.

Like I keep saying, the only sane people left in humanity are the rare few who deliberately avoid social media.
Celebrities feeding their need for validation on social media are no exception.
    7AnonymousSep 13, 2026 18:13
If you cite how pathetic Onigoshi Tomahawk looked (the comedy duo), Sanma would agree in a heartbeat.
    8AnonymousSep 13, 2026 18:13
Middle-aged women aren't considered comedians anyway, so this doesn't even apply.
    9AnonymousSep 13, 2026 18:16
Ariyoshi is the same generation as Matsuko, but his start on social media happened to coincide with the smartphone boom and his TV breakthrough, so when he first made an account, he got auto-recommended to everyone and ended up with a massive follower count.
I can't help but think that when Ariyoshi told Matsuko not to bother with social media, it was really just jealousy — because if Matsuko had started back then, she would've overtaken him as number one.
If he genuinely believed no one should do it, he'd have quit himself.
    11AnonymousSep 13, 2026 18:17
For me it's simple: just don't do it.
    13AnonymousSep 13, 2026 18:21
Plenty of comedians use social media without ever causing a problem.
I don't know exactly which "old guys" or mid-tier comedians Nagano and the others mean, but even some pretty famous comedians are on there just fine.
    15AnonymousSep 13, 2026 18:21
Nagano was already dropping subtle warnings early on, back when Hiroyuki was first getting hyped up as the "debate king."
I don't usually watch shows he's on, but he seems like an introvert type who knows his roots and the dark side of the internet, and I've always thought he has sharp instincts.
He's one of the rare entertainers who both loves TV and understands the good and bad of the internet.

By the way, in the West, low-quality social media, low-quality videos, and "efficiency-driven" content-skimming are said to cause a so-called 'brain drain effect' that lowers intelligence and moral judgment.
In the UK, broad restrictions on young people's use of social media, video platforms, and other internet services are reportedly set to take effect starting next fiscal year.
    28AnonymousSep 13, 2026 18:32
Way back, Shinsuke said it's important to make the average middle-aged guy watching TV at home laugh, and I thought that was pretty profound.
I think Nagano has a similar sensibility to Shinsuke.

Heisei Nobushikobushi's Yoshimura Takashi looked nervous, like the comment hit close to home. "I'm a cue-card dog (industry slang for a personality who just does what producers tell them), and I'm an idol's dog too," he said.

You mean a TV station's dog, not an idol's dog. If you're annoyed that Matsuko keeps ribbing you, just tell her directly — Nakai is a cautionary tale of what happens when that kind of thing gets left unchecked.
And you're just saying whatever you want too. If this were really about STARTO (the agency you seem to have it in for) — like you secretly just want to say "it's Johnny's fault!" — you'd be getting torn apart for it.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Nagano’s proposal was a one-off remark made during a debate segment on TBS’s “Weekly Sanma to Matsuko,” but it comes against a backdrop of repeated controversies — from Hitoshi Matsumoto’s blowup on X to famous comedians’ social-media posts causing problems again and again. The thread split over whether the issue is really about age (“old guys”) or individual character, with many pushing back on Matsuko’s “can’t handle it” framing by pointing out that plenty of young people don’t handle social media well either. It’s worth noting that the original remarks were made within a TV debate segment — Nagano and Matsuko aren’t actually pushing for any formal social-media regulation, which is an easy point to misread. These should be read simply as personal opinions expressed on a TV show.

  • Nobuhiko Takada Awarded Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt by Hickson Gracie — 5ch: ‘Wasn’t He Undefeated in 4,000 Fights?’

Former pro wrestler Nobuhiko Takada announced on Instagram on September 13 that he had been awarded a black belt in jiu-jitsu by Hickson Gracie. Takada and Gracie faced off at PRIDE.1 in 1997 and PRIDE.4 in 1998, with Takada losing by armbar submission both times, but the two have kept up a teacher-student relationship through jiu-jitsu ever since. The thread ranged widely, with some pointing out that it’s ‘an honorary belt, not one earned through skill,’ and others lamenting the state of Japan’s fighting scene given how much bigger overseas promotions like the UFC and WWE have become in asset value.

    9/13/2026

Former pro wrestler and TV personality Nobuhiko Takada updated his Instagram on the 13th, announcing that he had been awarded a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt by Hickson Gracie.

Takada and Gracie faced off at the mixed martial arts event ‘PRIDE.1,’ held in October 1997. In that bout, Takada suffered a submission loss to Gracie’s armbar. The two met again the following October at ‘PRIDE.4,’ where Takada once more lost by submission to Gracie’s armbar. Having fought two fierce battles, the pair still appear to keep in touch through jiu-jitsu — as recently as last December, Takada posted on Instagram that he was taking jiu-jitsu lessons from Gracie.

I recently watched that video of Fujiwara's attack during the Fujinami vs. Chōshū match — the so-called 'Sapporo Terror' incident —
and Takada, working as an attendant back then, looked so young and skinny

Takada said Fujinami is normally an incredibly gentle guy,
but that was the one time he got hit by him.
Furious that Fujiwara's attack on Chōshū had wrecked the WWF International Heavyweight title match,
Fujinami reportedly said 'I quit this company,' punched his attendant Takada,
then walked back to the hotel stark naked without even taking his room key.

It's fine — the verdict on him was already 'of all people, the weakest one,' so there's nothing left to lose.

Background and Talking Points on This Topic

Nobuhiko Takada and Hickson Gracie fought twice — at PRIDE.1 in 1997 and PRIDE.4 the following year, 1998 — with Takada losing by armbar submission both times. Some in the thread view this result as the catalyst that brought mixed martial arts wide recognition in Japan. Opinion split over how to regard the black belt: some pointed out that it’s ‘an honorary belt, not one earned through competitive skill,’ while others cited the case of Enson Inoue to question whether it carries official recognition from the IBJJF (International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation). Jiu-jitsu black belts can be awarded either based on competitive achievement or as an honorary gesture recognizing a mentor-student relationship or other contributions — the latter doesn’t necessarily come with certification from an international body. It’s also worth noting, as a side topic not found in the original article, that Forbes’ figures showing the UFC and WWE’s combined value exceeding that of boxing’s four major promotions prompted comments about their shared parent company, Endeavor, and concerns about Japanese fighters increasingly heading overseas.

After Saki Nakajima posted a thank-you message on her own X account for the “Shimashima Bus Tour,” attendance numbers became a hot topic on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. With the event run using 3 chartered buses, turnout is estimated at around 120 people — prompting comments that the scale has shrunk compared to 10 years ago, when the pair were still active idols. A “bus tour” — chartered buses that shuttle fans between live shows and meet-and-greets — is a business format unique to idol fan culture, and turnout numbers are frequently debated on 5ch as an informal popularity gauge. That said, the “120” and “400” figures floated in the thread are just estimates based on fans’ headcounts and the number of buses used, not official numbers from the organizers, so some caution is warranted. The question of continuing this kind of work after marriage and childbirth is also a perennially divisive topic, and this thread was no exception, with both “she’s a winner” takes and more critical ones appearing.

  • Daisuke Hori Snaps “Don’t Jump to Conclusions!” After Getting Caught Snoring During a Scalp Massage, Clashes with Valentine Hosokawa

Entrepreneur Daisuke Hori, who promotes himself on YouTube as sleeping just “30 minutes a day,” ran a livestream from September 9 documenting a week of his life — but on day two, he appeared to snore while asleep during a scalp treatment, prompting viewers to question his claims. Hori explained that he had merely experienced around 10 “microsleeps” — brief lapses of consciousness — but he went on to appear to be asleep during other spa treatments as well. When boxer Valentine Hosokawa called him out over the incident, it sparked a back-and-forth between the two, and a 5channel thread expanded into debate over whether Hori’s sleep claims are true, and even the business model behind his livestreams.

    Sun, Sep 13, 5:00 PM

Entrepreneur Daisuke Hori, the “30-minutes-a-day short sleeper,” currently streaming “[One-Week Livestream] The Daily Life of Short Sleeper Daisuke Hori” on YouTube, is facing a wave of criticism.

“There have been doubts raised about Hori, questioning whether he really sleeps only 30 minutes a day, and the livestream seems intended as proof against that. The stream started on the night of September 9, but on day two, the 10th, footage showed him appearing to snore while asleep partway through a head-spa massage from a beauty therapist. He later explained that he had entered a ‘microsleep’ state — a very brief form of sleep — around 10 times. Since then, there have been further scenes where he appears to be asleep during other treatments, such as facials.” (a sports newspaper reporter)

    Takasu threw him a lifeline
    and now it's boring

    What did he do?
    15AnonymousSep 13, 2026 17:50
He should go on Downtown's Wednesday sleep-deprivation endurance show
    77AnonymousSep 13, 2026 19:06
    Re: #15
He'd prove it better by just sleeping a normal 30 minutes and then driving the Iroha-zaka switchback road for 23 hours 39 minutes.

    Valentine shows up everywhere, huh
    Stick to boxing stuff

    Re: #1
He claims he only sleeps 30 minutes, yet he's dozing off all day, blacking out over and over, and constantly talking about sleep while thinking about sleep —

I'd really love to know exactly when he's using those other 23 hours and 30 minutes productively on anything besides sleep 😭
    31AnonymousSep 13, 2026 18:00
    Re: #28
Whether it's being used productively isn't for you guys to decide — that's up to him

At this point he's basically just a guy desperately longing for sleep

He's recruiting students and taking their money by pitching that short sleeping lets you use time more efficiently, right?
There's a real chance a group of them could file a fraud lawsuit against him, so of course he's getting desperate.

    At this rate, Hori wins

If this Hori guy actually studied and earned some kind of certification within this one week, that would make for a much better showing

I don't really get why people are so intent on calling him out
You can tell from his face that he's exhausted, so just drop it already
If everyone keeps watching him like this, he won't be able to sleep even if he wants to
    Just leave him be

Not when he's profiting off this — no way
    44AnonymousSep 13, 2026 18:12
It's fine if he falls asleep during a scalp massage, isn't it?
He's not running some sleep-deprivation endurance race, is he?
He just claims he normally has no time to sleep and only gets 30 minutes (well, that's the premise anyway)
Of course he'd sleep if the situation lets him
    49AnonymousSep 13, 2026 18:24
    Re: #44
But he's the one getting all worked up insisting he wasn't asleep
    61AnonymousSep 13, 2026 18:39
So in the end, which is it —
    • He's sleepy, but 30 minutes causes no problems
    • 30 minutes gives him perfect, deep sleep
    Which one?

If he's only 160cm, shouldn't he be cutting weight?
With that height, why isn't he fighting at featherweight instead of super lightweight?
What a waste of that Nigerian 🇳🇬 blood

I'd like to see him try, but if the man himself doesn't want to, there's nothing to be done
He debuted late with no amateur background, so for him it probably wasn't about aiming to be world champion — it was more of a personal, health-first challenge to see how far he could go
    88AnonymousSep 13, 2026 19:26
    Re: #70
    Uchiyama is amazing
He defended the super featherweight world title 11 times over about 6 years
In the same weight class, he's way stronger than Takanori Hatakeyama
    91AnonymousSep 13, 2026 19:28
    Re: #88
So does that make him greater than Naoya Inoue?
Drop the "Koropokkuru theory" already lol (an internet meme theory about short fighters, named after the tiny folk of Ainu legend) — even Hosokawa denies that one

Background and Key Points of This Story

Daisuke Hori is known as a self-improvement-oriented entrepreneur who brands himself as a “short sleeper,” and doubts about the truth of his claimed sleep schedule have been raised before. This week-long livestream was likewise meant to serve as proof, but repeated scenes of him appearing to lose consciousness during treatments only ended up fueling the skepticism further. In the thread, many commenters tried to sort out the distinction between a “microsleep” — a lapse of consciousness lasting only tens of seconds — and a proper “nap,” suggesting the dispute is less a simple shouting match and more a disagreement over definitions. Others pointed to the livestream’s Super Chat earnings and to Hori’s sleep-technique seminar business, broadening the debate beyond the truth of his claims to whether he’s cashing in on them.
