  • Former Child Star Yuki Kuroda’s ¥3 Million Debt: New Comedy Partner Sighs, “Not Another Debt Problem”

Minoru Murota of the comedy duo “Gappori Kensetsu” made waves after quoting a news article on X about his newly appointed partner Yuki Kuroda’s current situation, sighing “not another debt problem.” According to the original article, Kuroda is living in an apartment with ¥50,000 monthly rent while carrying ¥3 million in debt and continuing to frequent girls’ bars (hostess-style bars where customers pay to chat and drink with young women). On the thread, alongside shock that Kuroda — once celebrated as a genius child actor — had fallen so far, many commenters cited overseas former child stars like Macaulay Culkin to discuss what they called “the curse of the child star breakout.”

Former child prodigy actor Yuki Kuroda: “¥50,000 rent, ¥3 million in debt, still hitting the girls’ bars” — shocking update leaves new comedy partner sighing, “Not another debt problem”

“I’d heard about the drinking. But my partner in debt again…?”

On September 13, Minoru Murota of the comedy duo “Gappori Kensetsu” posted an update on X. His quote-post of an article covering the current situation of Yuki Kuroda — who had recently been announced as his new partner, taking over from former partner Toshio Kobori — has been generating buzz.

    so uncanny.

    Background and Discussion Points

Yuki Kuroda was a former child actor who took Japan by storm in TV dramas during the 1990s, and this story stems from the newly reformed comedy duo “Gappori Kensetsu” bringing him on as a new partner. Cases of celebrities who found fame as child stars later being reported for money troubles come up repeatedly, and on the thread he was likewise compared to overseas former child stars like Macaulay Culkin — but the generalization that “child stars are prone to falling from grace” isn’t backed by solid evidence, and each case really should be considered on its own terms. The thread also contained posts mocking Kuroda’s appearance and intelligence, insults comparing him to political groups, and unverified speculation about his time as a minor; this article has been compiled excluding such personal attacks and posts lacking a factual basis.

*This article was compiled by excerpting and summarizing the 5ch (Geinou/Sports News+) thread “[Entertainment] Former child prodigy actor Yuki Kuroda: “Rent ¥50,000, debt ¥3 million, still hitting the girls’ bars” — shocking update leaves new comedy partner sighing, “Not another debt problem”.”

  • Daiki Shigeoka’s Starring Film Opens to an Estimated ¥16 Million — 5ch: ‘That’s the Price of Three Minivans’

The film “How to Commit the Perfect Crime in 5 Seconds,” starring WEST.’s Daiki Shigeoka, opened on September 11, but its opening-day box office reportedly came in at an estimated ¥16 million. Released across roughly 213 theaters, seating data posted on 5ch suggested the sales rate was under 10% of available seats. Shigeoka has recently been in the news over his marriage and the revelation of a previously undisclosed child, with some fans reportedly abandoning him as a result. Thread posters were split on how much of the poor showing was due to the marriage/secret-child fallout versus a simple lack of buzz or promotion for the film itself.

Daiki Shigeoka’s Starring Film Opens to “Estimated ¥16 Million” — Marriage Scandal Exposes Deep Fan Exodus

On September 11, the film “How to Commit the Perfect Crime in 5 Seconds,” starring idol group WEST.’s Daiki Shigeoka, hit theaters. But its start doesn’t seem to have been a strong one.

The film is a perfect-crime suspense story in which the protagonist uses generative AI to cover up a murder committed by his younger sister. Expectations were high for the lead’s terrified expression as he’s driven into a corner, and for his serious yet versatile performance as the older brother trying to talk his sister down — but the opening-day box office reportedly fell flat.

Whether the other members knew Shigeoka had a kid is one thing, but the real question is whether the agency knew. Given dependent/tax stuff, they should normally know — but if he didn't even tell the agency, once his current confirmed jobs wrap up, they could very well end his contract
    86AnonymousSep 15, 2026 00:04
    Re: #84
He's a sole proprietor, not a salaried employee, so dependent deductions don't even apply to him

    Background and Points of Debate

Japanese idol-led films tend to rely heavily on core-fan turnout driven by theater greeting events and bonus-merchandise sales for a large chunk of their box office. As noted in the thread, this film also had more than ten theater greeting events scheduled, which would normally be enough to build up decent numbers on their own. Even so, one likely factor behind the sluggish box office is that the marriage and previously undisclosed child, which came to light just before release, stirred up fan sentiment in a way a simple “congratulations” couldn’t smooth over. Talent agencies in the Johnny’s lineage (now Starto Entertainment) tend to tightly manage how their idols’ private lives are disclosed, so when something comes out “after the fact” like this, it’s easily read as a betrayal. That said, the 4.4% seat-occupancy figure cited in the thread was calculated by an anonymous poster from the release scale and ticket sales, not an official count, so it should be taken with a grain of salt. The thread also brought up Rino Sashihara’s similarly struggling starring film “Barairo no Buuko” for comparison, suggesting idol-film box office is a structural issue shaped not just by a star’s personal scandals but by how much buzz the film itself generates.

  • ‘Yabai Tshirt-ya’ Sells Only Half the Tickets for One Tokyo Show — Band Asks ‘Why Though?!’

On September 14, the rock band “Yabai Tshirt-ya-san” (lit. “That Awful T-shirt Shop” — a self-deprecating name) revealed ticket sales figures for their tour on their official X account. As part of their 10th-anniversary year, the band is in the middle of a solo tour running since August, with six shows scheduled at Zepp Haneda in Tokyo between October and November — but the fifth show, on November 10, has reportedly sold only about half as many tickets as the others. The band pleaded “Why though?!” and “It’s such a rare chance!”, pointing out that it’s their first unrestricted live-house show since the pandemic. On 5ch, users traded jokes about the band’s name and songs, while others pointed out the gap in ticket sales compared to other artists.

Tank-top Flower for Friends is such a great album!! Plus, the tour for this album happened during the pandemic, so it was our first-ever hall tour — meaning this is actually our first chance to enjoy it in a live house with no restrictions, and it’s such a rare opportunity!!!!!!”

Ah, this is that same old 'we've got a ton of unsold tickets' thing again

    Background and Discussion Points

Yabai Tshirt-ya-san formed in 2012, and their name is said to derive from a self-deprecating joke about “musicians who put a lot of effort into selling merch.” The topic that sparked this thread is that just one out of six scheduled shows is selling more slowly than the rest — not that the tour as a whole is struggling. On multi-date tours, it’s not unusual for a single show to lag due to the day of the week or timing, and commenters pointed to acts like Vaundy and Bialystocks, whose shows months to half a year out are already sold out — framing this less as a simple popularity problem and more as a quirk specific to that one date. At the same time, a fair number of commenters questioned how well-known the band’s name and songs actually are, and the disagreement over the link between name recognition and turnout is something the original article alone doesn’t fully clarify.

He's right on the borderline of needing a cane or not. It's easier with one, so he ends up using whatever's handy as a substitute. If he falls and hits his head it'll be bad news, so he really should carry one — but at 60-something, carrying an actual cane probably feels too 'old man' for him.

Probably the long cardboard core from a roll of plastic wrap or aluminum foil.

    Background and Talking Points

What went bankrupt this time wasn’t Hiroshi Fuse himself, but Bariki-ya Co., Ltd., the talent agency he heads, with the order issued by the Tachikawa Branch of the Tokyo District Court. On the thread, the point that split opinion the most was between posters noting that ‘bankruptcy = the company,’ meaning his home wouldn’t be seized without a personal guarantee, and others countering that for small, closely-held companies a representative’s personal guarantee is essentially standard practice. Fuse became widely known in the ’90s for ‘trendy dramas’ like *I’ve Always Loved You* and as a regular on *Ito-ke no Shokutaku*, but his TV appearances reportedly declined after reports of an affair. Whether the reported ¥200 million annual income was accurate, and whether he was simply choosing his projects or the offers had actually dried up, remains unclear from his own comments alone, and the thread never got past speculation on that point. One thing readers can easily misunderstand is that a company’s bankruptcy doesn’t mean Fuse lost all his personal assets — whether assets like his home are seized right away depends on whether there’s collateral involved and on the lending institution’s judgment.

A scene from the music video (imagined)

Background and key points of this story

Saori Yoshida won gold at three consecutive Olympics, from Athens 2004 to London 2012, and also received Japan’s People’s Honor Award. Tokuma Japan Communications is a real record label spanning genres from enka to anime songs, so this announcement reflects a genuine major-label music contract rather than a one-off publicity stunt. On the thread, skepticism about commercial viability (“is there even demand for this?”) sat alongside comparisons to other non-musicians turned singers like Mikuru Asakura and Aimyon, plus plenty of straightforward support for her new venture — no single view dominated. One thing readers might misread: athletes launching music careers isn’t unheard of, and performers with combat-sports backgrounds releasing songs have precedent, so Yoshida’s case is really an extension of that pattern. That said, specifics like her singing genre or production team hadn’t been announced at the time of writing, so most of the thread’s speculation on those points remains just that — speculation.

  • Box Office Rankings: ‘Chiikawa’ Holds No. 1 for Second Straight Week — Even Without Bonus Freebies

In the national box office rankings for September 11–13, “Chiikawa the Movie: Secret of the Mermaid Island” held on to the No. 1 spot for a second straight week. Many were surprised it kept the top spot even in a week with no admission bonus items being handed out, while the newly opened “Look Back” didn’t climb as high as expected, prompting comparisons with the original manga and its earlier anime film. The other new release, “The Odyssey,” topped Chiikawa in average ticket price and has been taking the No. 1 spot in country after country overseas — including the U.S. and U.K. — yet still couldn’t beat Chiikawa in Japan, which also became a talking point.

    Re: #82
It'll have to make its money on opening Friday
If the content turns out bad, that'll be the end of it

    Background and Key Points

The box office rankings are compiled by Kogyo Tsushinsha over a three-day Friday-to-Sunday window, and attendance (number of ticket-buyers) and box office revenue (yen amount) are two separate metrics. That distinction is what caught the thread’s attention: even in a week with no bonus items, “Chiikawa the Movie” held on to the No. 1 spot in attendance, while “The Odyssey,” which has a higher average ticket price, occasionally came out ahead in revenue despite trailing in attendance. The Japanese title for that film appears to stay faithful to the original title while avoiding confusion with “Odyssey,” the 2015 film directed by Ridley Scott and starring Matt Damon that was also released in Japan under that name. Also notable: while “The Odyssey” topped the charts in many countries overseas, including the U.S. and U.K., “Chiikawa the Movie” was the only one to beat it in Japan — taken by some as a sign of just how strong homegrown character-content popularity is domestically. Meanwhile, the newly opened “Look Back” didn’t climb as high in the rankings as expected beforehand, sparking mixed opinions in comparisons with the original manga and its earlier anime film adaptation.

  • Matsuko Says She’s Team Single-Ply Toilet Paper, and Her Reason Is Crystal Clear: “Double-Ply Just Doesn’t Feel Like You’ve Wiped”

During a live appearance on “5-ji ni Muchuu!”, Matsuko Deluxe declared herself firmly “Team Single-Ply” when it comes to toilet paper, explaining, “I don’t buy the expensive stuff — I buy the cheapest one there is.” The remark sparked a 5channel thread where opinions split over which is more economical and easier to wipe with, single-ply or double-ply. Some argued that if you fold it up, there’s no real difference either way; others insisted single-ply makes it easier to control how much you use and cuts down on waste, while still others countered that without double-ply, it just doesn’t feel like you’ve properly wiped. The discussion even branched into claims of a regional divide, with single-ply reportedly selling better in western Japan and double-ply in eastern Japan.

Matsuko Deluxe appeared live on TOKYO MX’s “5-ji ni Muchuu!” (weekdays at 5pm) on the 14th as the Monday commentator, and revealed that she’s on Team Single-Ply for toilet paper.

The show got lively over the topic of toilet paper. Matsuko insisted, “Me, I’m single-ply. Definitely single-ply,” before adding, “I don’t buy the expensive stuff either — I buy the cheapest one.”

No way I could go without a bidet

    Background and Talking Points

The single-ply vs. double-ply preference isn’t just a matter of individual taste — it’s often discussed as a divide shaped by region and generation. In the thread, too, opinions clashed between those who prioritize the “feeling of having actually wiped” and those who value the economy of using less paper, and no clear consensus emerged on which is “correct.” Some pointed out that, depending on how you fold it, usage ends up about the same either way, suggesting the issue can’t really be reduced to a simple either/or. Worth noting: the actual thread also contained plenty of posts poking fun at Matsuko’s body type and bathroom habits, but since that’s separate from the practical discussion of choosing toilet paper that sparked the topic, it’s been left out of this article.

  • ‘Chiikawa the Movie’ Announces 5th Bonus Item — a ‘Secret Book’ — 5ch: ‘I Absolutely Need This’

It was announced on the 14th that “Chiikawa the Movie: The Mermaid Island Secret,” currently a smash hit, will hand out a 52-page “Secret Book” as its 5th admission bonus starting on the 19th, the first day of Silver Week. The booklet reportedly includes story illustrations that original creator Nagano drew while conceiving the “Siren arc,” letting readers see early concept details that had previously only been described in a long-form interview on the official website. On 5ch, reactions were largely upbeat — “I absolutely need this,” “how lavish” — but the thread also buzzed with gripes about the repeated bonus-item marketing, the film’s box-office numbers, and sold-out theater merchandise, so the excitement wasn’t limited to the bonus content alone.

It was announced on the 14th that “Chiikawa the Movie: The Mermaid Island Secret,” currently playing to smash-hit success, will distribute a lavish booklet called the “Secret Book” as its 5th admission bonus starting on the 19th, the first day of Silver Week.

The “Secret Book” bonus is a hefty limited-edition booklet running a full 52 pages. It includes the “story illustrations” that original creator and illustrator Nagano drew back when conceiving the “Siren arc,” offering a rare look at early concept art — material previously only described in a long-form interview on the official website, which revealed details such as “a character called ‘that girl’ was placed where the siren would have been” and “Hitoha and Futaba originally had faces and lines.”

Isn't it more like a metaphor for people going to see it just because the trend's being controlled, with no will of their own?

    Background and Talking Points

Handing out admission bonuses in staggered waves is a box-office strategy that’s become standard for recent hit anime films like Demon Slayer, meant to encourage repeat viewings and boost box-office revenue. Worth noting: the “14.6 billion yen” figure that came up in the thread was an unconfirmed estimate circulating on 5ch, not an officially released number. Opinions in the thread split into two camps — those welcoming this kind of bonus-item marketing as fan service, and those wary of a business model that seems to bank on scalping and repeat viewings. Some pointed out that since this “Secret Book” comes in only one version with no lottery element, there’s little upside for scalpers. Meanwhile, the complaints about sold-out theater merchandise are really about the timing of bonus distribution and how individual stores manage inventory — a different issue from criticism of the source material or the bonus campaign itself, a nuance that’s easy to miss from the article alone.

  • Former TBS Announcer Reveals Her ICL Eye Surgery Experience: ‘Done in 10 Minutes,’ ‘Cost About ¥700,000’

Former TBS announcer Risa Uchi revealed on X that she underwent ICL (implantable contact lens) surgery to correct her nearsightedness. She shared specific figures: her vision improved from 1.2–1.5 with contacts to about 2.0 after surgery, the procedure took 10 minutes, and it cost roughly ¥700,000.

On 5ch, commenters discussed how close the procedure is to cataract surgery, how it differs from LASIK, the classic jab that “ophthalmologists never get it done themselves and just wear glasses,” and whether it can still be adjusted once presbyopia sets in.

    Nikkan Sports [September 14, 2026, 8:55 AM]

Former TBS announcer Risa Uchi (34) updated her X account by the 14th, revealing that she had undergone ICL surgery to have a lens implanted in her eye.

On the 12th, she posted a recent photo with the caption, “Had my ICL surgery exactly a week ago, and I’m back at work today… recovery’s going smoothly… and the world looks so clear.” In a follow-up post she added, “Since a lot of people seem interested in ICL, here’s a quick rundown: Vision went from 1.2–1.5 with contacts to about 2.0 after surgery. I’m extremely nearsighted, so ICL was basically my only option. It doesn’t hurt (though you do feel a pressing sensation on your eye). The surgery itself was over in 10 minutes. Cost was about ¥700,000. Can’t wash my face for 3 days, plus I have to use three kinds of eye drops every 2 hours while I’m awake. From day 4 on, baths and makeup are fine (except eye makeup). Eye makeup’s okay after a week. I got rid of my glasses and contacts. For choosing a hospital, I went mainly off recommendations from people I know — the doctor holds an Expert Instructor certification, something only about a dozen doctors in all of Japan have.”

Cataract surgery shaves away the clouded lens and puts a new one in its place.
ICL just adds a lens without removing anything.

    101AnonymousSep 14, 2026 18:38
    Re: #97
There are multifocal intraocular lenses too though.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Unlike LASIK, which shaves down the cornea, ICL surgery works by inserting an extra lens inside the eye — and as commenters noted, one key difference is that it can be removed later if needed. The procedure has gained ground in recent years as an option for people with severe nearsightedness who don’t qualify for LASIK, and the roughly ¥700,000 price mentioned in the thread lines up with typical market rates. While the classic jab that “ophthalmologists never get refractive surgery done themselves and just wear glasses” made another appearance, others pushed back by pointing to its technical similarity to cataract surgery (removing the clouded lens and replacing it with a new one), arguing its track record speaks for itself. One easily overlooked point: even after surgery brings vision up to 2.0, the eye’s focusing ability itself doesn’t improve, so close-up vision can still worsen with age, and how well the procedure holds up against presbyopia remains a question. The specific numbers on success rates and blindness cases floating around the thread are unsourced anecdotes at best, so they shouldn’t be taken at face value.

  • Akihiro Nishino Sparks Debate After Saying ‘Slow-to-Respond Staff Should Just Quit’

On September 14, King Kong’s Akihiro Nishino posted a gripe on X about “staff who are slow to respond,” and it got picked up as a news article. The Yahoo News excerpt frames it as a general point that “a delayed reply stalls the other person’s decisions and creates a cost for the whole team,” but the thread title presents it as targeting “staff who need to care for children or family members,” and 5ch users were split — some reacting to the remark itself, others bringing up his past history of alleged workplace harassment.

    9/14 (Mon) 16:21

Akihiro Nishino (46), of the comedy duo King Kong, updated his X (formerly Twitter) account on the 14th, describing the kind of staff he’d “like to see quit right away.”

Nishino opened with: “Yesterday I called out a staff member for being slow to respond, but I don’t think slow responses should just be waved off as ‘being bad at your job.’ Response speed is really about how you treat the other person’s time. When my reply is delayed, it stalls the other person’s decision-making, and that in turn stalls the work of whoever’s downstream of them. In other words, slow responses aren’t just my own problem — they rack up costs for the whole team.”

Because watching Showa-era retro exploration videos beats watching Peace-kun from Omiya Park on YouTube any day.

So, whatever happened with that museum you crowdfunded, huh?

    Re: #5

Apparently he's teaming up with the Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum on it.

This is the first permanent exhibition by King Kong's Akihiro Nishino, who's both a comedian and a picture-book author.
You can see the exhibit with regular admission to the Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum.

Using "childcare/caregiving" in that context is gonna stir up drama.

    Re: #17
I figured it meant he didn't want to hire people who take time off or leave early for childcare or caregiving, but turns out it's more like: anyone who won't move the way His Majesty Nishino wants is basically an old person or a baby, so hurry up and quit lol
That's a pretty risky thing to say in this day and age, lmao
    9AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:45
I wish 'Mr. Zip-Your-Mouth' would just quit already. (sarcastic nickname implying Nishino himself should pipe down)
    10AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:45
So he's the one texting people after hours, and then getting mad that the reply is slow?

Did everyone forget when he blew up over a Yoshimoto employee replying slowly at night or on a day off, and it turned into a whole controversy?
    13AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:45
Guess it's one of those black companies where you can't even take childcare leave, huh.
    14AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:46
Sounds like some serious power harassment going on over there.
    15AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:46
Don't tell us that — go warn your own staff in private.
    16AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:47
Isn't refusing time off for childcare or caregiving reasons actually against the law?

    Re: #16
    Go read it again.
    17AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:47
Maybe he just shouldn't use the words "childcare" and "caregiving" for something like this?
    19AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:48
He got run out of Yoshimoto over power harassment and he still hasn't learned a thing lol
    21AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:48
Is he just cranky because Chiikawa is such a massive hit? (a rival cute-character franchise)
    23AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:49
Classic case of people getting riled up just from the thread title lol
    24AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:49
    This one's not okay.
Dismissing something as fundamental to life as childbirth and childcare just because you're the boss — that's absolutely unacceptable.

I mean, shouldn't you first be thinking it's messed up to make someone work in that state at all?

You should read it properly too.

If the pay's good enough to comfortably put them in a care facility, maybe that's fine?
    29AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:50
He's just shifting the blame while conveniently ignoring that HE'S the one who hired them.
Seriously, stop putting this guy on a pedestal.
Japan's going to end up messed up.
    30AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:50
The fact that he confidently puts this out there like it's some righteous argument says everything about how messed up Nishino is.
Reminds me of when he bragged on the radio about screaming at his staff.
    32AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:51
That thread title is pretty malicious.
Well, it's Nishino, so I guess it's fine.
    35AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:52
You guys really can't move a muscle unless someone spells out every little thing for you…

This sounds less like Poupelle and more like the Nazis. (Poupelle, his picture-book character)
    38AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:53
Nishino's creepy and this is harassment, but this thread title is way too deliberately misleading.
    40AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:53
    This guy's something else,
    but honestly, he's not wrong.
    41AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:53
I get it as an honest take from a business owner, but
chalking up a subordinate's slow responses to their personal attitude toward work
seems like a dangerous way to frame it.
I think it's more important to first ask yourself
whether the workload distribution and staffing levels are actually appropriate.

I bet most business owners out there secretly feel the same way.

It's probably closer to "I don't want to do disability hiring" than anything else.

    Re: #1
This is a total bait-and-switch thread title.
Way too different from what's actually in the article.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Nishino is known for his unconventional business approach — his picture book “Poupelle of Chimney Town” and crowdfunding a museum among them — but he’s also repeatedly drawn criticism for overbearing treatment of staff, and his contract situation with Yoshimoto Kogyo has been a recurring talking point. This particular post is, on its face, a general statement about work — that slow responses rack up costs for the whole team — and the quoted portion never actually mentions “childcare or caregiving.” The thread title ties that general statement to “staff who need childcare or caregiving,” but as one commenter points out, there’s a real gap between the article’s actual content and the thread title, and that gap has itself become one of the thread’s talking points. It’s worth reading not just for opinions on the remark itself, but also for how faithfully the headline reflects what was actually said.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Sports/Entertainment News+) thread “King Kong’s Nishino: ‘Staff who need childcare or caregiving’ should quit right away — ‘This company is neither a school nor a nursing home’.”
