  • New Studio’s First Broadcast Goes On as Scheduled Despite Hanshin’s Pennant Win — 5ch: ‘Sponsors Have Really Piled Up, Huh’

MBS Radio’s “MBS Young Town Saturday” featured Rio Sakurai and Akane Yumige, with guest Momoha Nagano. The broadcast fell on the very day the Hanshin Tigers’ league championship was announced, but the show wasn’t swapped out for a special program and aired as usual — on 5ch’s live-commentary threads, surprised comments like “Don’t cancel it for a special broadcast!” and “So it really stayed as the regular show” popped up. With the studio having just relocated, listeners also reacted to the different sound quality and the addition of new sponsor Ringer Hut.

    Background and talking points

“Young Town Saturday” is a flagship MBS Radio program currently hosted by past and present Morning Musume members, including Rio Sakurai and Akane Yumige. In the thread, the relocation of the recording studio became a topic of conversation: in response to the question “Mainichi Shimbun → TBS → where now?”, one post claimed it was “apparently FM Sounds in Hirakawa-cho.” Hirakawa-cho is located in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, and the comment hints that MBS, an Osaka-based broadcaster, might now be using a studio closer to Tokyo — though this remains speculation within the thread and could not be independently verified. The broadcast date also coincided with the announcement of the Hanshin Tigers’ league championship win, and listeners were surprised that the show stuck to its regular format instead of switching to a special broadcast. The addition of Ringer Hut as a new sponsor was also brought up as a sign of the show’s recent changes.

  • Airi Yamazaki’s Bid to Go Blonde Blocked by Manager — Even Though Groupmates Were Rooting for It

Hello! Project idol Airi Yamazaki revealed that when she asked her manager about dyeing her hair blonde, the request was turned down. According to her own posts, some of her groupmates had actually been egging her on with “go for it, Airi-chan, dye your hair!” — and the news sparked a thread on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. Many posters took the rejection as a positive sign, arguing it’s “proof the agency sees her as an important member,” while others brought up past examples like Hashisako and Akiyama going blonde, and debated what hair color would actually suit her — with cool tones or ash shades coming up as popular suggestions.

Apparently Airi-chan said she wanted to try going blonde, asked her manager about it, got turned down, and was pretty bummed 🙂

Her groupmates were even pushing her to dye it, but the manager still said no 🙂

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

In Hello! Project, final say over costumes and hair color commonly rests with management rather than the idol herself — a practice the thread’s conversation reflects well. Reactions in the thread split between those who saw the rejection as disappointing, feeling her individuality wasn’t recognized, and those who took a more positive view, framing it as proof she’s treated as an important member. Some posts also linked past members who went blonde, like Hashisako and Akiyama, to subsequent graduations and dips in popularity — but it’s worth noting this isn’t an official explanation from the agency, just speculation that has circulated among fans. The thread never clarified exactly which color was actually turned down.

  • Japan’s Long-Term Interest Rate Breaks 3% — Variable-Rate Mortgage Holders Grow Anxious

On October 3, 2026, news that Japan’s long-term interest rate (the yield on the newly issued 10-year government bond) broke through 3% became a hot topic on a 5ch thread in the “Live Everything G” board. While the Bank of Japan pushes ahead with rate hikes, opinions on the Takaichi administration’s economic management are split, with critics blaming “Takaichi’s fault” clashing against defenders praising her for “honoring her campaign promises.” At the same time, anxiety is spreading among variable-rate mortgage holders — who reportedly make up more than 70% of borrowers — and the yen’s trajectory, having weakened back from 152 to 158 against the dollar, has also become a talking point.

    Re: #104
Nah, it's actually the start of the Golden 40 Years

Background and key points of this discussion

The long-term interest rate is a market-set benchmark determined by the government bond market, distinct from the policy (short-term) rate that the Bank of Japan directly controls, and it influences things like fixed mortgage rates. Variable-rate mortgages, chosen by more than 70% of borrowers, track the short-term rate instead, so breaking above 3% on the long-term rate doesn’t immediately hit their monthly payments. The thread’s central puzzle — “why is the yen weakening even as rates rise?” — stems from the fact that the US is hiking rates at the same time, keeping the US-Japan rate gap from narrowing much. Views on the Takaichi administration’s economic policy were split along partisan lines, with the same remark about the yen being read as either a “retreat” or a kept promise depending on the poster. The disagreement over whether the economy is “good” or “suffering from high prices” also reflects how differently people’s economic circumstances color their perception.

  • Earth’s Life Has Only 1 Billion Years Left: 5ch Reacts — “I Was Planning to Live for 2 Billion”

News that a research team including Toho University used computer simulations to estimate that life on Earth has only about 1 billion years left became a hot topic on 5ch’s Science News+ board. Reactions to the 1-billion-year figure were mixed: some took an optimistic view, noting it’s still a long time compared to Earth’s 4.6-billion-year history, while others were pessimistic, pointing out it’s just a blink of an eye compared to the 7 million years since humanity emerged. Responses ranged widely — from predictions that humanity could survive via Dyson spheres, terraforming, or evolving into AI, to comments that extinction is inevitable anyway given the sun’s lifespan, so there’s no point worrying about it.

    Q) What was Earth like 1 billion years ago?
    A) There were no invertebrates yet — only prokaryotes,
and the atmosphere had very little oxygen.
    —
★ If 100 million years = 1 year old, Earth's history looks like this:
Age 00: Dust and gas gather in a corner of the galaxy, forming the sun and its planets
Age 01: A Mars-sized planet collides with Earth, creating the Moon
    Age 06: Oldest rocks
    Age 12: Oldest prokaryote fossils
Age 22: First global ice age (Snowball Earth)
Age 39: Second global ice age (Snowball Earth)
    Age 40: Invertebrates appear
Age 41: Plants move onto land; oxygen levels reach today's 20%
Age 42: Arthropods move onto land
    Age 43: Ferns flourish
    Age 44: Mammals appear
Age 45: Age of the dinosaurs (went extinct 70 million years ago after a massive meteorite impact)
    Age 46: Humans appear

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

The underlying research reportedly predicts that as the sun gradually brightens, atmospheric CO2 will decrease, causing photosynthetic organisms to decline. This would trigger a sharp drop in oxygen levels, returning the atmosphere to a low-oxygen state similar to before the Great Oxidation Event roughly 2.4 billion years ago. That’s why “oxygen is the key.” In the thread, opinions clashed between those who felt 1 billion years seems short compared to Earth’s full 4-billion-year history of life, and those who pointed out that since the era of single-celled ocean life lasted 3 billion years, the age of multicellular life (about 600 million years) is itself still young. Opinions also split between optimists who believe Dyson spheres, terraforming, or a transition to AI could get life through it, and pessimists who argued that no technology can overcome the sheer vastness of the universe.

  • Demon Slayer Is Done, One Piece and Conan Keep Going — 5ch: ‘I’ve Earned Enough, Time to Retire’

A 5ch thread lit up over a contrast: Demon Slayer’s creator is said to have “earned a lifetime’s worth of money and retired to the countryside,” while the creators of One Piece and Detective Conan keep drawing to protect their staff’s jobs. Demon Slayer wrapped up in just 23 volumes — unusually short for a shonen manga, where decade-long runs are the norm. The thread spiraled from criticism that “the story was too thin to sustain a long run” into comparisons of other authors’ work ethics, like Hiromu Arakawa and Yoshihiro Togashi, and even a debate over whether Demon Slayer or Dragon Ball has had the bigger economic impact.

    Background and Key Points

Demon Slayer ran from its 2016 serialization debut through 2020, wrapping up in 23 volumes. That’s a very different timeline and production setup from decades-spanning series like One Piece and Detective Conan, so framing this as a simple difference in “work ethic” is a stretch. The thread also speculated about the author’s gender and family situation, but creator Koyoharu Gotouge has never publicly confirmed their gender, so none of that is verified. The circulation and box-office figures cited in the Demon Slayer-vs-Dragon Ball economic comparison also include claims with shaky sourcing within the thread, so they shouldn’t be taken at face value. It is an officially confirmed fact that the Mugen Train film holds Japan’s all-time #1 box office spot, but which franchise comes out on top overall still depends on which metric you use.

  • Juice=Juice’s Autumn Tour Setlist Sparks Debate: ‘Snubbing the Newbies’ or ‘Smart to Save the Hits’?

During Juice=Juice’s autumn tour, X (formerly Twitter) buzzed with talk that the first half of the show featured few of the standard songs even newer fans would recognize, leaving the venue oddly quiet. On 5ch, opinions clashed: some argued ‘they already played plenty of newbie-friendly songs back in spring and last autumn’ and ‘holding back the surefire hits and saving them for later is reasonable,’ while others countered that ‘there are actually more newcomers now, so this shows a lack of consideration’ and ‘the old-school fans are using the spring setlist to lord it over everyone.’ The debate over how the setlist was put together left fans divided.

    36AnonymousOct 3, 2026 21:01
Even if they lined up all the standard songs, 'Moremi' is the only one people actually call out for, right?
On the spring tour even 'Hito Sore' got blank stares.

    40AnonymousOct 3, 2026 21:02
Maybe it felt a bit lacking because neither 'Hito Sore' nor 'Blur' were in it.
I get that they have to include a new song, but it's not like the new one's actually good.
    41AnonymousOct 3, 2026 21:02
I want them to play something like 'Scramble' and leave everyone stunned.
    42AnonymousOct 3, 2026 21:03

    44AnonymousOct 3, 2026 21:03
Fans who got into the group through 'More' (盛れ) still have a trial ahead: being left stunned by the saxophone solo at the Christmas event.

Went to the Atsugi show, and other than the closing song 'Room,' there was basically nothing that got the crowd going.

No way, there's no other song that boring.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Hello! Project idol groups tend to alternate between setlists built around ‘surefire hits’ that even newer fans recognize, and setlists aimed at longtime fans that drop the standards for a different lineup — and this thread’s debate is essentially a reaction to that swing. In idol live culture, the audience’s synchronized ‘calls’ create a sense of unity, but when unfamiliar songs run back-to-back, the calls don’t come and the venue goes quiet — the so-called ‘jizo’ (stone-statue) state. In the thread, opinions split between ‘they already did plenty of newbie-friendly shows in spring and last autumn, so holding back the surefire hits now is reasonable’ and the counterargument that ‘there are actually more newcomers now, so this shows a lack of consideration’ — with no clear consensus on which view is right. It’s also worth noting that the full setlist itself was never confirmed within the thread, and the posts are based solely on individual audience members’ impressions from their respective venues.

※This article is compiled from excerpts and a summary of the 5ch (Hello! Project) thread “[Sad News] Juice=Juice’s Autumn Tour Setlist Completely Ignores Newcomers.”

  • Panel Proposes Tougher Tax on Investment Income — 5ch: “Wages Get Taxed at 55% but Investments Only 20%? That’s Absurd”

On October 2, the Japan Association of Corporate Executives (Keizai Doyukai) released a policy proposal calling for stronger taxation on investment income to help fund a benefits program set for full rollout in fiscal 2029. The plan would prioritize support for child-rearing households earning up to 4 million yen a year and low-to-middle-income seniors — groups said to bear a heavier effective tax and social-insurance burden than their counterparts in the US, UK, and France — with the required funds estimated at around 1.7 trillion yen. Funding would come from scrapping a tax break that promotes wage hikes at small and medium-sized businesses, together with the investment-income tax hike. On 5ch, opinions split between those calling it “absurd” that wage income can be taxed at up to about 55% while investment income faces a flat 20%, and those arguing that having 20% automatically withheld at the source is “already enough.” Many posts also questioned why corporate tax and retained earnings weren’t part of the discussion.

On the 2nd, Keizai Doyukai released a policy proposal that includes strengthening taxation on investment income to help fund the “Worker Burden Relief Benefit,” a program the government plans to fully roll out in fiscal 2029. It argues that prioritizing payouts to low- and middle-income households — who face a heavier tax burden than their counterparts in the US and Europe — would help boost consumer spending.

With low- and middle-income child-rearing households in mind, the proposal calls for prioritizing support for households earning up to roughly 4 million yen a year — a bracket facing a substantially heavier tax and social-insurance burden than in the UK, US, and France. Including benefits for low- and middle-income elderly households, the necessary funds were calculated at around 1.7 trillion yen.

It said the funding could be covered by abolishing the wage-hike tax incentive for small and medium-sized businesses — since pay raises are now taking hold — together with strengthening taxes on investment income.

Strengthening taxes on investment income? Having 20% automatically withheld at the source without question is already plenty. They tell citizens to invest, then turn around and say they're raising taxes on it — that's going to kill people's motivation.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

Investment income in Japan is currently taxed separately from wage income under a flat “separate taxation” scheme of roughly 20% (15% income tax + 5% residence tax). Wage income, by contrast, can reach an effective rate of around 55% once the top 45% progressive income-tax bracket is combined with residence tax — a gap that has long fueled criticism of the so-called “100-million-yen wall,” where the more someone earns from dividends and capital gains, the lower their effective tax rate becomes. Keizai Doyukai’s proposal uses this gap as a funding mechanism, redirecting the money toward support for low- and middle-income child-rearing households. The thread split between those who see the flat 20% rate as “already heavy enough” and those who see the gap with wage-income tax rates as “unfair,” with some posts noting that investment income is the only thing on the table while corporate tax and retained earnings have faded into the background of the discussion. One point left unaddressed in the thread: raising investment-income taxes wouldn’t necessarily hit small-scale NISA (tax-free investment account) investors hard — the bigger impact would fall mainly on those with large-scale dividend and capital-gains income.

  • U-21 Japan Falls 0-1 to South Korea in Asian Games Final, Misses First Title in Four Editions — 5ch: “Not Even Disappointed”

On October 3, in the Asian Games football final at Toyota Stadium, the Japan U-21 national team lost 0-1 to the South Korea U-23 national team, missing out on their first title in four editions and settling for silver. This marked the third straight tournament in which the final came down to a Japan-South Korea matchup, with Japan having lost to South Korea in the previous two editions as well. The thread’s comments ranged widely — from assessments of midfielder Yokoyama’s performance and technical gripes about his crossing, to questions about event operations (“tickets sold out but the stands looked empty”), speculation on who the next senior national team manager will be, and debate over team-building policy, namely how to balance the Olympic generation with the Asian Games generation.

On October 3, the Japan U-21 national team faced the South Korea U-23 national team in the Asian Games final at Toyota Stadium in Aichi Prefecture. This was the third straight tournament in which the final came down to a Japan-South Korea clash, and Japan had lost to South Korea in the previous two editions. With the tournament being held on home soil this time, hopes for the title were higher than ever, but Japan came up just short, losing 0-1 to South Korea and missing out on its first championship in four editions.

Having beaten the Uzbekistan U-21 team in a penalty shootout in the semifinal, Japan made ten lineup changes for the final, with only midfielder Hisatsugu Ishii — the team’s top scorer this tournament with three goals — staying in the starting eleven. Goalkeeper Rui Araki started, along with captain and defender Rion Ichihara anchoring the back line, midfielder Yotaro Nakajima, and forward Uche Brian Nwadike among the starters.

    Background and Talking Points

This year’s U-21 squad was put together right after the U-23 national team crushed China 4-0 to win the Asian Cup in January 2026, which fueled thread comments arguing that “the Olympic generation has already delivered results, so there’s no need to force a separate generation.” Countering that, others pointed out that most U-23 regulars play overseas and are hard to call up in the first place, underscoring just how tricky the development strategy really is. Another recurring point was that “almost no one from past Asian Games squads has stuck with the senior national team” — commenters noted that not a single player from the 2022 Hangzhou squad remains on the senior roster today. Note that the individual player assessments reflect reactions to this one match and aren’t meant as definitive verdicts on anyone’s future potential. Also, the “tickets sold out but the stands looked empty” question is just an impression about the venue — the thread never got past speculation on the cause, and nothing there should be read as a confirmed fact.

    29AnonymousOct 3, 2026 18:38
They cleared out the trash and cleaned it up, right?
They should just let people dive in 🥺

Keep the Colonel tied down (a nod to the 1985 "Curse of the Colonel," when fans threw a KFC Colonel Sanders statue into the river)

    Played baseball in high school
Made us go from the 4th station to the summit
    and back, twice
On New Year's Day, no less

Looking back, I think youth is better spent hanging out with friends and girls than doing club activities
This was back before cell phones existed
    34AnonymousOct 3, 2026 18:45
We're already at the point where if you dive into Dotonbori, people around you will just say "that joke bombed" (すべる means both "to slip" and, in comedy slang, "to flop" — a pun since diving = literally slipping)
    35AnonymousOct 3, 2026 18:48
These days the bridges get blocked off, so people just jump in from along the riverbank instead
If they really want to stop it, they'd have to barricade both entire banks
Bottom line, no matter what they do it's pointless
Just leave it be, it's on them if something happens
    39AnonymousOct 3, 2026 18:57
Some idiot YouTuber's probably gonna pull something
    42AnonymousOct 3, 2026 19:01
So the riverside path is off-limits now
Guess there's nothing left to do
    Serves Hanshin right
    43AnonymousOct 3, 2026 19:02
If the soccer team wins gold at the Asian Games, they'll get compared to this lol, pathetic
    60AnonymousOct 3, 2026 19:30
Seriously, Hanshin's winning the pennant again? What is going on
    62AnonymousOct 3, 2026 19:33
    Re: #60
Technically, if the Giants win today and Hanshin loses all of their remaining 5 games(?), the Giants would take the pennant

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Diving into the Dotonbori River became a tradition starting in 1985 when the Hanshin Tigers won the Japan Series, and Osaka Prefectural Police have beefed up security every time the team wins a title since. In the thread, some pointed out that “the water quality improved once Ishin took over,” while others noted the irony that the tighter the security, the more people seem determined to break through it. Note that the later part of the thread, which developed into comparisons of unruly behavior between baseball fans and soccer fans, included unverified claims about specific supporter groups and personal attacks, so it has not been included in this article. Some posts suggested extreme measures as “countermeasures” against the dives, but these are exaggerated internet humor rather than genuine calls to action.

  • Hiroshima Manager Arai Apologizes to Fans Over Scandal: ‘We Will Be Reborn Next Season’

On October 3, the Hiroshima Carp came back to beat the Hanshin Tigers 6-4 in their final home game of the season at Mazda Stadium. In the post-game ceremony, manager Takahiro Arai (49) apologized to fans over an in-team scandal, saying, “We the Carp will be reborn next season.” On the 5ch thread (Geisoku Sokuho+), discussion centered less on the apology itself than on claims that nothing will really change unless the team’s upper management — owner Motoo Matsuda and executive director Seimei Suzuki — changes too, with debate also continuing over how the team should handle the player said to be at the center of the scandal.

Can 'Blowtorch Fork' Kikuchi really be reborn? (a jeering nickname tied to a viral photo of him)
    5AnonymousOct 3, 2026 20:17
Don't they need to change the owner first?

Nothing changes unless both Motoo Matsuda and Kikuchi are gone.

Fans shouldn't buy season tickets for next year.

Blowtorch Fork is still around, so they can't be reborn yet.

    Aren't there still zombies left?

    Re: #13
Well, but it's precisely because he's someone with a track record of sketchy behavior that he ended up photographed getting chummy with anti-social types like drug dealers — and conversely, there's no going after people who don't have photos like that floating around.

And someone who had ties to anti-social forces but still held a press conference with that kind of attitude is, by any measure, a rotten orange (a bad apple that spoils the whole bunch). Now that they've managed to push a player like that out, I think the atmosphere will improve at least a little.
    15AnonymousOct 3, 2026 20:20
Zombies are the dead reborn, after all.

If they just cut off the tail while the owner and the executive director both stay in place, doesn't that mean nothing really changes?
    19AnonymousOct 3, 2026 20:22
Can the Carp — and the league itself — actually get away with this?

    Yeah

Arai going soft on him is one reason Kikuchi got so full of himself.
    21AnonymousOct 3, 2026 20:22
Leaving Kikuchi as he is means this whole thing is pointless.
    22AnonymousOct 3, 2026 20:23
The 'zombie cigarette' team insisting this was a 20,000 crowd, and the Carp-cult true believers who actually buy it.
Full-on Imperial-GHQ-style 'baseball math' propaganda that would put even old Kawasaki Stadium to shame.
Even counting the visible lower deck of the outfield seats, that's maybe 3,000 people.
    33AnonymousOct 3, 2026 20:26
    Re: #22
Doesn't matter how many show up, as long as they pay the stadium usage fee properly and help recoup the construction costs. A team like Sanfrecce that never intended to pay toward construction costs in the first place is out of the question, even playing to a full house.
    26AnonymousOct 3, 2026 20:24
Wonder if they'll swap out about half the roster.
    28AnonymousOct 3, 2026 20:24
Well, even if they come out clean, I doubt reinforcements or the draft will go well, so the team's overall strength is probably going to take a real hit.
    29AnonymousOct 3, 2026 20:25
Shouldn't that line be 'We'll die once and be reborn,' lol
    30AnonymousOct 3, 2026 20:25

    Re: #1
If the team had just taken the lead right away — investigated, made it public, and sent him down to the minors — I don't think this would've blown up this big.
Old-school companies especially love to cover things up, which just drags the news cycle out and ends up handing the tabloids more material, so the team winds up taking the maximum amount of damage in the end.

If they'd dropped the announcement and the punishment themselves right at the start, the initial hit would've been strong, but the news value would've faded fast after that, so the overall damage would've been smaller.

Because of what happened with the Marines, mid-season contract termination isn't really an option anymore.
He's a regular starter too, so benching him without a stated reason is tough.
In the end, he got mentally worn down, his stats tanked, and that gave them an excuse to send him down lol

The zombie situation isn't over yet.
It'd be cruel to make a new manager deal with that, and there probably aren't many people who'd even take the job anyway.

Background and Key Points of This Story

Manager Takahiro Arai’s apology came in response to an “in-team scandal,” but the original article itself never actually spells out what that scandal involved, and the thread’s discussion centered mainly on frustration with the player’s own conduct and with how the front office handled things. Where opinion split was over the question of who should actually be held responsible: many argued that a manager bowing his head alone won’t prevent a repeat unless management itself changes too, pointing to the owning family said to have transferred its shares to the city of Hiroshima, and to Seimei Suzuki, who has held the executive director post for years. On the other hand, almost no one spoke up for the player said to be at the center of it, with some even arguing that the manager’s leniency helped make him worse. The article doesn’t spell out how far “we will be reborn” actually extends into concrete organizational change, so whether next season’s roster moves and front-office shake-up really follow through looks to be the thing worth watching.
