  • Natsuyaki Miyabi to serve as ‘one-day manager’ at a shop run by a longtime fan — prices and fan-funded fees spark debate

Natsuyaki Miyabi, a former Morning Musume ’14 member now active with PIMMY and other projects, is set to serve as “one-day manager” at an eatery run by one of her longtime fans. Word that the collaboration curry costs 3,500 yen, the collaboration drink costs 2,300 yen, and even two-shot photos come with a fee sparked a mix of congratulations and unease on 5ch’s Hello! Project board over the idea of fans collecting money from fellow fans. One post — “Knowing the money’s going to a fellow otaku kills my motivation to go” — set off a tangle of reactions: surprise at the pricing, curiosity about who this veteran fan-turned-shop-owner actually is, and the thread rolled on without a clear consensus.

She's been busy ever since leaving Up-Front (her old talent agency), huh
    11AnonymousOct 6, 2026 18:17
Oh, so it's a fan-run shop… knowing the money's going to a fellow otaku kills my motivation to go

Yeah, I kind of get that

I wonder which thing they mean by "since elementary school"
    21AnonymousOct 6, 2026 18:34
3,500 yen for the collab curry and 2,300 yen for the collab drink — that's a bold price
    24AnonymousOct 6, 2026 18:36
So that means 5,800 yen gets you a two-shot photo, and it's +2,300 yen for each extra one after that?
Since it's shot on a smartphone, the quality's way higher than the usual cheki (instant Polaroid-style fan photo)
    25AnonymousOct 6, 2026 18:39
Honestly, at this point you might as well just go to a "kurokki" place (slang reference, meaning unclear)
    31AnonymousOct 6, 2026 18:46
Up-Front probably wanted her out ASAP since she'd overstayed her welcome there
    32AnonymousOct 6, 2026 18:48
What's with the "image of the interior" disclaimer
Why isn't it an actual photo?
    34AnonymousOct 6, 2026 18:49
Sounds like you could actually book her for something like a wedding if you really wanted to
    35AnonymousOct 6, 2026 18:51
Could you book her for 100,000 yen?

If it were a woman in her 20s instead of some old guy, I could still see myself rooting for the shop
    47AnonymousOct 6, 2026 19:03
I hate it when otaku use their favorite idol to collect money from other otaku!
    50AnonymousOct 6, 2026 19:08
It was already a slightly pricey place to begin with
The regular "red" katsu keema curry runs about 2,200 yen? 2,400 yen with an egg topping? So this is 1,100 yen more than the usual price
Makes you wonder how much of that actually goes to Miyabi-chan
    51AnonymousOct 6, 2026 19:08
If an otaku wants to bring her a gig, it should be something like ad work or a festival
An event that's basically just collecting money from fans isn't okay

    57AnonymousOct 6, 2026 19:29
There was an event before where buying 5,000 yen of PIMMY merch got you a two-shot photo with Miyabi-chan, and I went
but only about 1 or 2 out of every 10 people there were guys, so I felt pretty out of place

Who's even going to a meet-and-greet event for a married woman

Background and key points of this discussion

Natsuyaki Miyabi joined Morning Musume ’14 in 2014 as an additional member, and after graduating has continued her entertainment career as PIMMY. Within Hello! Project, it’s fairly common for graduated members to take part in collaboration shops or one-day-manager events, so a tie-in with a shop run by a longtime fan isn’t unusual in itself. What split opinion in the thread was the fact that the collaboration curry was priced above the regular menu, and the discomfort some felt over the basic setup of “a shop run by a fan collecting money from other fans.” Fan-led projects tend to have less funding behind them than ordinary tie-ins, which often pushes prices higher — and that’s what drove reactions like “this kills my motivation to go.” At the same time, several posters said they actually planned to go, so it wasn’t a simple split into for-and-against camps. Note that the posts touching on her age or marital status are based on anonymous hearsay and have not been confirmed as fact.

  • JOYSOUND Adds All 47 Juice=Juice Music Videos Ever Made — 5ch: “Time to Rediscover the Original Five”

It became a hot topic on 5ch’s Hello! Project board that JOYSOUND’s “Official Music Video All-You-Can-Watch” service had added all 47 music videos from Juice=Juice’s history. With footage now available spanning everything from the original debut lineup to the current members, longtime fans welcomed the move, saying “the time has come to rediscover the original five,” while others worried that newer fans who only know the current lineup might end up confused, thinking “wait, who’s this?” The thread’s main points centered on nostalgia from veteran fans, alongside questions about how the karaoke playback actually works (whether vocals are included or it’s instrumental-only, and whether lyrics are displayed).

New fans only like the current Juice=Juice lineup, so if you play the MV for "Ijidaki" (fan nickname for a Juice=Juice song), a bunch of unfamiliar faces show up and they'll be confused, like "Huh? Where's Danbara-san? Where's Nia-chan?"

How does this series actually work for karaoke?
Is it like a vocal-guide thing where the original singer's voice automatically cuts out once you start singing, or do you just keep singing along with them the whole time?
    27AnonymousOct 6, 2026 19:04
    Re: #25

I feel like that'd make people happier
    60AnonymousOct 6, 2026 19:59
Just put the lyrics in already

Background and Key Points of This Topic

JOYSOUND’s “Official Music Video All-You-Can-Watch” is a paid service that lets users watch past music videos directly on the karaoke machine, and this time 47 Juice=Juice songs were added to it. Juice=Juice is a group that has gone through numerous lineup changes since its 2013 debut, and the look and dance style of the original members differ quite a bit from the current lineup. What split opinion in the thread was the gap between longtime fans feeling nostalgic and newer fans thrown off by seeing unfamiliar faces — neither side meant any real malice, and the whole thing was treated as a lighthearted generational gap. One point that’s easy to misunderstand: this service likely just plays the MVs as-is, without lyric display or an instrumental-only option, and several posters in the thread pointed out that “the vocals stay in” and “no lyrics show up.” For readers unfamiliar with how the service works, it’s worth noting that playing this at a karaoke venue ends up feeling closer to just watching regular background music than an actual sing-along.

  • ‘Rakuten Drive’ Hacked: Data From 15,000 Accounts Possibly Exposed

A report from ITmedia has revealed that unauthorized access occurred on Rakuten Drive, the e-commerce giant’s cloud storage service, potentially exposing data from around 15,000 accounts to viewing or theft. On 5ch, users pointed to the service’s free 50GB tier as the reason many sign up in the first place, while others argued that “no cloud service is truly impenetrable,” citing past celebrity photo leak incidents, and voiced concern about possible knock-on effects for related services like Rakuten Bank. Some speculated that AI might be involved in the cause of the breach, though this remains unconfirmed.

Because Japan's security is full of holes.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Rakuten Drive is a cloud storage service operated by Rakuten, and according to ITmedia’s report, this unauthorized access may have exposed data from roughly 15,000 accounts, including stored files. In the thread, when users questioned why anyone would use it when Google Drive and OneDrive already exist, the free 50GB storage tier was cited as the main draw. Some also pointed to the 2014 celebrity iCloud photo leak as a reminder that cloud data has never been completely safe. That said, neither the article nor the thread establishes the cause or method behind the breach, and speculation that “AI might be involved” remains an unsubstantiated opinion at this stage. One point worth flagging for readers: neither source actually explains how this incident might directly affect other Rakuten services like Rakuten Bank — the concerns voiced in the thread are purely user speculation.

  • Woman’s Post About Losing 7 Liters of Blood in Childbirth Called ‘Fake’ — 5ch: ‘This Guy Clearly Doesn’t Know Science’

A woman posted on social media that she “lost 7 liters of blood” during childbirth, prompting a man to push back, claiming “you can’t survive losing that much blood without continuous transfusions — this is a fake story (uso-matsu, Japanese slang for an obviously made-up post) from someone who clearly doesn’t understand science.” The exchange sparked a lively thread on 5ch’s livestream-commentary board. Replies introduced the real medical condition known as “obstetric critical hemorrhage,” in which bleeding becomes hard to stop around childbirth, and opinion split over how to count blood loss when it’s continuously being replaced by transfusion. The discussion gradually drifted into comparisons of death risk between childbirth and male-dominated labor, and the gender gap in suicide rates.

    Re: #38
It's called "obstetric critical hemorrhage" — various factors make bleeding more likely during childbirth
It can quickly escalate into "obstetric DIC," where clotting factors get depleted and the blood turns thin and watery, gushing out freely
At that point you need to replace fluids, red blood cells, and clotting factors all at once
    58AnonymousOct 6, 2026 19:11

It's such a pointless thing to question

    71AnonymousOct 6, 2026 19:20
    Re: #64
    Yeah, pretty much
According to late-Meiji-era data (early 1900s), about 0.4% of mothers died with every birth
That's why "built for easy delivery" body types were prized back then
Thanks to medical progress, that's now down to around 0.003%
For what it's worth, the leading cause of death during the perinatal period today is suicide, which is why postpartum (and perinatal) depression care is now the big focus
    75AnonymousOct 6, 2026 19:24
It's not an impossible claim, but let's not forget that, overall, deaths from men's labor still outpace deaths from childbirth

Background and Key Points of This Debate

Massive blood loss during childbirth is medically known as “obstetric critical hemorrhage.” When it’s accompanied by obstetric DIC — a complication in which blood loses its ability to clot around the time of delivery — bleeding can continue even while fluids, red blood cells, and clotting factors are all being replaced simultaneously. In the late Meiji era (early 1900s), roughly 0.4% of mothers died with each birth; thanks to advances in transfusion and hemostasis techniques, that figure is now said to be around 0.003%. Where thread opinion split was over whether blood loss continuously offset by transfusion should still count toward the real total — the core of the disagreement was less about whether the number itself was true and more about how to define it. The conversation later drifted into unrelated territory like the gender gap in suicide rates, a tangent with no direct bearing on the original medical question.

  • Ryutaro Hazuki’s Dance Livestream After ‘Zombie Cigarette’ Conviction Sparks Controversy — 5ch: ‘I’d Dance My Ass Off Too’

Ryutaro Hazuki (26), who left the Hiroshima Toyo Carp after being convicted of using the designated drug “zombie cigarettes,” has been drawing attention as a popular TikTok livestreamer — and his latest stream, in which he turned his tatami room into a makeshift club and danced wildly, became a hot topic. The timing was awkward: it came right after news broke of disciplinary action against four former teammates implicated in the same drug scandal. On 5ch, criticism (“this stream isn’t okay”) clashed with defenders (“what’s wrong with dancing in his own room?”). Part of the backlash stems from the fact that Hazuki was caught and convicted after a family member reported him, while the other four were never formally charged — leaving some with the impression that he effectively sold out his friends.

While his former Hiroshima Toyo Carp teammates reel from being cut from the roster, Ryutaro Hazuki (26) is thriving as a popular TikTok livestreamer…

    Re: #81
This guy got busted after his family reported him and the actual drugs were found.
Whether the other guys kept using even after it was banned is unclear.

    Background and Points of Contention

“Zombie cigarettes” are synthetic designer drugs whose chemical makeup changes frequently, and both possession and use are regulated as a designated substance. Hazuki was caught and convicted after being reported by his own family, while the four former teammates whose names also came up were never formally charged — they simply left the team after being cut from the roster. That gap in how severely each was treated is the main point of contention in the thread. Supporters argue that the dance livestream itself is a perfectly legal activity and that dancing alone in his own room is his business, while critics point to the fact that Hazuki’s case effectively exposed his teammates’ names, and react to that on an emotional level. There’s no evidence he was under any influence during the stream, so comments suggesting he’s “still feeling the drug’s effects” remain pure speculation.

*This article was compiled from excerpts and a summary of the 5ch (Entertainment & Sports News+) thread “[“This stream isn’t okay”] Ryutaro Hazuki stirs controversy with “dance livestream” after four players implicated in zombie-cigarette scandal are let go — turns tatami room into a club and dances wildly [Ailuropoda melanoleuca★].”

  • Matsuya’s ¥990 Mapo Tofu Set Draws Cries of ‘Too Expensive,’ Splits 5ch Opinion

When Matsuya released a mapo tofu set meal priced at ¥990, posters on the 5ch forum reacted with shock, with comments like “that’s expensive” and “this country is finished.” On the other hand, some praised the chain, saying “everything at Matsuya is delicious,” and the discussion expanded to include comparisons of meat toughness and other chains (Ohsho, Marumiya, Sukiya, etc.). The thread also touched on claims that Matsuya had switched its rice back from Calrose (American) rice to domestic rice, and an anecdote about a viral social media exchange over an order mistake — with opinions split not just on price but on quality as well.

They keep rolling out all these weird new menu items, but that's really just to disguise how low-quality the ingredients are — a lot of them end up absurdly spicy or overly heavy-flavored as a cover.

Background and Key Points of Debate

The trend of rising prices at restaurant chains has continued for several years now, and beef bowl chains are no exception. Matsuya has repeatedly changed its rice sourcing and rolled out new menu items in recent years — as pointed out in the thread, with claims that it “switched the rice back from Calrose to domestic rice” — reflecting a structure where fluctuating ingredient costs tend to feed directly into prices. The thread was split over whether ¥990 is expensive for a mapo tofu dish on its own, with some viewing it as relatively cheap compared to other beef bowl chains, and others feeling psychological resistance to paying ¥990 for a set meal at a chain known mainly for rice bowls. Opinions on how tough the meat is are also likely shaped by individual taste and quality differences between locations and times of day, so it’s worth noting the experience may not be the same at every branch. The order-mistake anecdote is one example that spread on social media, and is best read as a separate topic from the thread’s main subject — the new menu item itself.

Scala Communications has 400 major listed companies as clients… doesn't that mean all of them got leaked too?

Background and Key Points of Discussion

The breach originated from unauthorized access to “Scala Communications,” the outside contractor Citizen outsourced its inquiry-handling to — Citizen’s own systems were not directly breached. Thread posters pointed out that Daiwa Securities also uses the same contractor, highlighting a “supply-chain” style damage pattern where breaching a single contractor can ripple out to affect multiple client companies. Another point of debate was whether this kind of unauthorized access is a problem unique to Japan or part of a global trend — citing cases in the US, Europe, and Denmark, the dominant opinion was that “it’s happening all over the world.” Posters also brought up Digital Minister Furukawa’s comment telling people to “protect your own information yourself,” expressing frustration with the government’s response. Readers should note that, at this stage, both the “roughly 100,000 people” figure and the possibility that “payment information was also leaked” remain unconfirmed possibilities — exactly what information was actually exposed had not been finalized as of the announcement.

  • Backlash Hits Ametalk’s ‘Comedians Who Don’t Want to Dance’ Segment — 5ch Buzzes With Calls for Miyasako’s Comeback

Shueisha Online reports that the September 27 broadcast of ‘Ametalk!’ (TV Asahi) featured its popular segment ‘Comedians Who Don’t Want to Dance,’ and the ‘intense performance’ by Tatsuya Mishima of the duo Suehirogari drew a wave of social-media criticism — comments like ‘so forced’ and ‘a contest for weirdest moves.’ In the 5ch reaction thread that followed, the criticism didn’t stay focused on Mishima alone; it spilled into a broader argument that the whole show ‘just isn’t funny anymore.’ Plenty of posters voiced nostalgia for the show’s energy back when Hiroyuki Miyasako was a cast member, while others argued the format itself — comedians riffing on a single theme — has simply run its course. The thread ended up a mix of criticism and defense.

    Shueisha Online, Oct 6

“I can’t stand the forced episodes of Ametalk,” “It’s too contrived to watch,” “The humor is supposed to come from genuinely trying and being bad at it — this is just a weird-moves pageant,” “Even by Ametalk standards, that’s too much.”

Harsh comments like these piled up on social media following the September 27 broadcast of the popular ‘Comedians Who Don’t Want to Dance’ segment on ‘Ametalk!’ (TV Asahi). Drawing the most criticism was Tatsuya Mishima of the comedy duo Suehirogari.

Plenty of people are great at baseball but terrible at soccer, stuff like that.

It's because they're comedians that everyone assumes it's staged — so just cast athletes instead.

    Re: #119
Nobody's asking for realism — the point is that the end result just isn't funny.

    Background and Points of Discussion

‘Ametalk!’ is a long-running talk show that began airing in 2003, and its popularity has been built on segments devoted to a single theme, like ‘Comedians With Bad Athletic Ability’ or ‘Home Appliance-Loving Comedians.’ After years of repeating the same format, the complaint that ‘they’ve already used up every pattern’ has circulated for some time, and the current backlash over ‘Comedians Who Don’t Want to Dance’ is an extension of that. Reactions in the thread weren’t unanimous — judgments of Tatsuya Mishima’s individual performance mixed with critiques of the show’s format itself, and a fair number of posts defended him, arguing it’s unfortunate that genuine effort gets dismissed as ‘fake.’ So it wasn’t pure criticism across the board. It’s also worth noting, for readers unfamiliar with the background, that Hiroyuki Miyasako left the show following his 2019 undisclosed-event scandal — which is why the thread saw so much nostalgia for the show’s energy during his time on it, a detail that might otherwise seem to come out of nowhere.

※This article is compiled as an excerpt/summary of the 5ch (Geisoku Sokuho+) thread ‘“Disrespecting the Viewers” — Controversy Hits Ametalk’s ‘Popular Series’ With Cries of “It’s Reached Its Limit,” Yet It’s Too Soon to Call It “Over”.’

  • Shohei Ohtani May Get Dropped in the Batting Order — Manager Roberts: “We’ll Consider It If Necessary” — 5ch: “He’s Whiffing Even on Pitches Right Down the Middle”

On the 5th, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts stated plainly that he would “consider dropping Shohei Ohtani from the 1-2 spot in the batting order if necessary,” given Ohtani’s ongoing slump. With Game 3 of the NLDS against the Braves on deck — a tough matchup against Cy Young-winning lefty Chris Sale — the timing of the remark drew plenty of attention, both for the team and for Ohtani himself. On the 5ch Geinosupo Sokuho+ (entertainment/sports news) board, opinions split between those blaming the slump on age-related decline or injury, and those arguing he can’t be benched because of sponsors and tour demand, with further disagreement over just how far down the order he should drop.

On the 5th, with Game 3 of the NLDS against the Braves one day away, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of the struggling Shohei Ohtani, “If necessary, we’ll consider dropping him from the 1 or 2 spot in the order.” He added that he would talk things over with Ohtani himself before making any such change. The Braves’ starter for Game 3 is Cy Young-winning lefty Chris Sale, a tough opponent for both Ohtani and the team.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Commenters noted that Ohtani has been chasing pitches out of the strike zone, with some in the thread pointing to declining dynamic visual acuity or the lingering effects of old injuries. The original article confirms that Roberts’ remarks were about considering a drop in the batting order, not a benching, and that he’d discuss any change with Ohtani first. On the other hand, the view that Ohtani can’t be pulled from the lineup because of sponsors or tour demand isn’t something confirmed by reporting — it remains speculation within the 5ch thread. It’s well known that Ohtani is signed with the Dodgers for the long haul, but as of this article it’s not yet clear how this potential change to the batting order will affect the rest of the postseason or the remainder of the season.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Geinosupo Sokuho+) thread “[US] Manager Roberts hints at possible drop in Shohei Ohtani’s batting order, “We’ll consider it if necessary”… the “bad habit” of chasing balls out of the zone, tough opponent Sale looms in Game 3.”

  • Palworld TCG’s Official Tournament Draws a Shocking Turnout… of 3 People

An announcement post revealed that only 3 people took part in an officially sanctioned tournament for Palworld’s official card game, held at an Akiba shop on October 6, 2026, sparking discussion on 5ch. Combined with reports that a Weiß Schwarz match event held the same day at a different venue also drew just 3 participants, the thread debated the distinction between “officially sanctioned” and “official,” compared the situation to other TCGs like One Piece and Detective Conan, and dwelled on the stark gap with Palworld’s reported popularity of over 40 million players shortly after launch.

They're about to milk Palworld as hard as Steins;Gate from here on out

You'd think this happened in some depopulated rural town, but no — this is Akiba we're talking about

Surely the champion should be whoever actually won 2 matches, not just the guy with a bye, right?

Honestly, when something's this mismatched in scale, you start wondering who's actually bankrolling it
    50AnonymousOct 6, 2026 16:34
They actually got 3 whole people together
    Gaaah, what a popular franchise

Wasn't there something recently where like 500 people showed up?
    66AnonymousOct 6, 2026 17:03
    Th… three people??
Shuhei Yoshida hyped Palworld up that much, and the tournament only pulled in 3 people??

This is honestly, quietly, the biggest 【piece of bad news】 today

They paid money to rent a venue in Akiba
and prepared prizes and everything for this tournament…

    and only 【3 PEOPLE】

    showed up

Lately he's starting to feel like a reverse-jinx
Be-Kane, Palworld, whatever he hypes up — he talks it up, talks it up, and then BOOM, it crashes

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

Palworld is reported to have drawn over 40 million players worldwide shortly after its January 2024 launch, and riding that momentum, multiple manufacturers moved to produce card games and merchandise based on the title. However, what sparked this discussion was an “officially sanctioned” tournament independently held by a retail shop — a different scale of operation and drawing power compared to an “official” event run directly by the game company itself. While many thread comments fixated solely on the small turnout and tied it to a decline in Palworld’s own popularity, factors specific to this particular event — such as the date and time, the shop’s size, and how long it was advertised beforehand — likely played a large role too, and it’s worth keeping in mind that the turnout at a single shop event can’t measure the popularity of an entire IP on its own.

※This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Hardware/Industry (Geha)) thread “Palworld card game so popular that only 3 people showed up to the official tournament“.
