  • DOCOMO Slashes ‘d Card’ Reward Rate in Half to 0.5%, Adds Annual Fee — 5ch: ‘Is Management in Trouble?’

On September 1, NTT DOCOMO announced it will cut the point reward rate on its “d Card” credit card in half, from the current 1% down to 0.5%, effective for usage from January 2027. At the same time, the company is conditionally ending its free annual fee, introducing a system that charges 1,650 yen if the card goes unused even once in the previous year. Benefits on the premium “d Card PLATINUM” and the “DOCOMO Poikatsu Plan” are also being scaled back. On 5ch, users weighed in with everything from complaints about network quality to subscriber-count trends, debating whether the changes are justified and what they signal about DOCOMO’s management going forward.

NTT DOCOMO announced on September 1 that it is lowering the d Points reward rate on its “d Card” credit card. Starting with usage from January 2027, points earned on regular purchases will change from 1 point per 100 yen spent to 1 point per 200 yen spent, cutting the reward rate in half, from 1% to 0.5%. The currently free annual fee will also become conditionally chargeable: from the second year onward, cardholders who don’t use the card even once in the previous year will be charged 1,650 yen (tax included).

Benefits on the premium “d Card PLATINUM” and the “DOCOMO Poikatsu Plan” pricing plan are also being reduced. For PLATINUM, the reward rate on DOCOMO Hikari and DOCOMO Denki Green charges will be lowered, and the introductory period during which the maximum reward rate applies uniformly to new members will be shortened. Under the Poikatsu Plan, the amount used to calculate d Points earned based on monthly fees will be reduced, cutting the actual points customers receive.

The timing of these changes varies by category. Changes for DOCOMO Denki Green take effect for usage from October 2026; changes for mobile phone service, DOCOMO Hikari, d Card Tsumitate (savings/investment), and the DOCOMO Poikatsu Plan take effect for usage from December 2026. The standard d Card reward rate changes for usage from January 2027. Implementation dates are subject to change, and the revisions apply even to customers already subscribed to or using these services.

A: For customers who don't have a DOCOMO mobile line, closing/deleting a d Account will show an error and fail in the following cases:

    – It's set as the points destination for a d Card
    – DOCOMO Hikari (fiber) is registered to the d Account (for non-DOCOMO-line holders)
    – DOCOMO Denki Green (electricity) is registered to the d Account (for non-DOCOMO-line holders)

    Re: #152
    Yeah, it's ridiculous.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

This revision isn’t limited to the core d Card reward rate — it’s a sweeping overhaul that also touches the d Card PLATINUM benefits for DOCOMO Hikari and DOCOMO Denki Green, plus the point calculation for the DOCOMO Poikatsu Plan tied to monthly fees, with rollout dates staggered by service from October 2026 through January 2027 — an important fact from the original article. Opinions in the thread split between reading the revision as a “sign of financial trouble” versus “part of an industry-wide trend of reward cutbacks,” and posts like #104 backed the latter view by pointing out how rival cards’ Visa tap-to-pay rewards compare favorably. On subscriber numbers, replies cited figures showing DOCOMO with a net loss while au, SoftBank, and Rakuten Mobile posted net gains as of end of June 2026 — worth noting as fact that the timing of the reward-rate cut does coincide with the subscriber decline. That said, whether this is the direct cause of the revision remains speculation within the thread itself, and it’s worth flagging that the figures in this article are quoted information supplied by a 5ch poster.

*This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch (News Express+) thread “DOCOMO’s d Card Reward Rate, 1% → 0.5% (Tap-to-Pay Excluded) — 1,650 Yen Annual Fee If Unused Even Once a Year.”

  • Popular IP mobile games keep ‘shutting down’ — 5ch says it’s not tipa, it’s gacha fatigue

Mobile games built on popular IPs like “Bungo Stray Dogs,” “Love Live!,” “Final Fantasy,” and “Sword Art Online” have been shutting down one after another. IT journalist Hiroshi Mikami analyzed the trend, saying, “Young people today don’t play social games. TikTok is enough for them, and games feel like a hassle. What they want is ‘tipa’ (time performance — getting maximum value for minimal time spent).” The 5ch thread reacting to this article erupted with pushback against the “tipa” theory itself. Opinions split over why young people are abandoning social games, with comments like “It’s not about tipa, it’s a rejection of the exploitative gacha system” and “Casual players are being abandoned, which is why hardcore titles like FromSoftware and Resident Evil are thriving.”

No wonder they’re “shutting down”… The dark reasons behind the wave of mobile game “service terminations” as young people turn away

What on earth is happening in the mobile game industry?

“Lately, mobile games (hereafter ‘mobile games’) built around popular IPs (intellectual properties) like ‘Bungo Stray Dogs,’ ‘Love Live!,’ ‘Final Fantasy,’ and ‘Sword Art Online’ have been ending their service one after another,” says a gaming magazine writer.

Gacha has nothing to do with it either.

They watch just to keep up with conversations so they don't get left out.
They played social games before for the same reason — just going along with everyone else.

The bar for entry into games itself is simply too high now — only the "cream" of today's kids can even engage with them.

Short-form video → the algorithm automatically picks something entertaining, and you know if it's fun within the first second.

Games → you have to choose what to play yourself, and it takes several minutes before you know if it's fun.

As a result, only the proactive, high-attention-span "cream" of young people can still play games at all.

What it really means is that game ads are losing to short-form video.
Square Enix and other social-game makers run their ads in between short videos,
but those aren't received as an intriguing game introduction — they're just perceived as annoying noise.

So the games themselves never get any interest, and without interest people don't buy them or spend money on them.
Within the first second, viewers go "yeah yeah, another boring, generic game ad" and just scroll past.

That's exactly why something like a Nintendo Direct is so valuable and important — a broadcast that a huge, wide cross-section of people actively choose to go watch and pay attention to.

Some people treat social games like "quick, easy fun," but free-to-play social games actually take an incredibly long time before they become genuinely enjoyable.

Early on, they keep the difficulty low so you don't quit, so you're just stuck mashing buttons through dull, repetitive battles.

Partway through, tedious progression systems, grindy repeat-farming, and item-collecting side quests start piling on — with "do this or your character growth stalls" pressure.
Growth is slow, and you can't fill out your roster without gacha-pulling constantly.

Only after you understand the systems, assemble a decent roster on your own, get your characters built up, and push well into the content do you finally reach the point of an actual game — "think for yourself, build your team, and see if your strategy works."

Even with expensive, flashy production values, the cost-performance and time-performance are both terrible.
And the content itself is aimed at mass appeal, so there's nothing distinctive about it — just formulaic drama you've seen a hundred times before.

    Re: #107
But it's still convenient since you don't need a game console.

Background and key points of this topic

Free-to-play mobile games have long relied on gacha-based microtransactions as their main revenue source, but in recent years they’ve faced criticism that “gacha preys on gambling psychology,” along with competition for people’s free time from fully free short-form video platforms like TikTok. Where the thread split was over how to interpret young people’s exodus from social games: as a shift in consumer behavior toward “valuing tipa (time efficiency),” or as “a rejection of the gacha payment structure itself.” The former position aligns with Mikami’s analysis, while the latter counters that “tipa is just an excuse — the real issue is distrust of gacha.” Neither view goes beyond speculation. It’s also worth noting that Hiroshi Mikami is an IT journalist who appears on TV news programs, not a gaming-industry expert — a detail that isn’t obvious from the original article or headline alone, which is part of why some thread commenters said they’d “never heard of him.”

*This article is compiled from excerpts and a summary of the 5ch (Hardware/Industry [Geha]) thread “Mikami: ‘Young people today don’t play social games. TikTok is enough for them, games are a hassle. What they want is tipa’.”

I'm also thinking I should shave the hair on my arms and fingers, just in case.
I'll be extra careful drawing my eyebrows in too, more than usual.

I really wanted to get my hair done as well, but I'm in the middle of growing it out right now, so I'll just style it to cover that up.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Advice emphasizing grooming details like “nails,” “nose hair,” and “body hair,” as seen in this thread, is a standard response in 5ch relationship-advice threads, reflecting a mindset that treats a sense of cleanliness as the key measure of a first impression. Opinions on smoking split sharply between “it’s attractive” and “it’s a turn-off nowadays,” a divide that reflects declining smoking rates and shifting attitudes toward secondhand smoke, and is a topic where views tend to differ by generation. While the thread produced concrete advice on how to choose a meeting spot and the rule of thumb to end a first date early, it’s worth noting that some points that commonly come up in real first-date advice — like how to handle the bill or what to talk about — weren’t addressed here.

  • Former Morning Musume Member & TV Tokyo Announcer Rio Kitagawa’s “Got My Job Offer 2 Years Ago” Post Sparks Speculation Over Her Graduation Timing

Rio Kitagawa, a former member of the idol group Morning Musume who now works as an announcer at TV Tokyo, sparked discussion on 5ch (a major Japanese anonymous forum, formerly 2channel) after posting on the station’s official Instagram: “Before I knew it, it’s almost been 2 years…!! This is a memory photo from the day I got my job offer (naitei — the formal, pre-graduation job acceptance notice common in Japanese hiring).” Kitagawa left the idol group and transitioned into a TV announcer career following a scandal involving leaked information about her dating life and private life. In the thread, opinions split over how the timing of her job offer relates to the circumstances of her idol “graduation” (sotsugyou — the standard term idols use for leaving a group), and whether the timing of her departure had actually been decided long in advance.

    Re: #108
Sounds like you still think announcer Kitagawa is being frozen out

Background and key points of the debate

Announcer hiring at Japanese TV stations generally follows the “shinsotsu ikkatsu saiyo” system — simultaneous, single-batch recruiting of new university graduates — in which job offers go out in the fall of a student’s third year, while the actual start date isn’t until the following spring, roughly a year and a half to two years later. A gap of that length between offer and start date is nothing unusual. Read one way, Kitagawa’s post is simply her reflecting on that ordinary hiring timeline. But because the timing overlaps with when she left Morning Musume (amid the scandal over leaked information about her dating life and private life), the thread filled with speculation that her graduation from the group may have already been decided before the job offer even came through. It’s worth stressing this isn’t an officially confirmed fact — it’s speculation built entirely on a coincidence in timing. Several posts also flatly asserted the hiring was secured through “connections” (kone), but since no evidence was given for that claim, those posts have been excluded from this article.

  • Showa-Era Company Trip Photo Sparks ‘AI or Real?’ Debate on 5ch: “Their Teeth Are Too Perfect”

On 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyo G” (Anything Live Broadcast) board, an image purportedly showing a company trip from the Showa era became a hot topic. Some users suspected it was AI-generated, citing the uniformly straight teeth and unnaturally high image quality, while others pushed back, pointing to the quirks of disposable cameras from the era — like the “Utsurun-desu” — arguing “even a real photo would look like this.” The debate over authenticity dragged on, alongside a split reaction to the era’s company culture — mandatory trips on days off, drinking, and smoking treated as normal — with some calling it “hell” and others saying “I’m jealous.”

    Context and Key Talking Points

The “Utsurun-desu” was a disposable camera Fujifilm released in 1986; given the lens and flash performance of the time, image quality tended to get grainy in backlit or dimly-lit banquet halls. On the thread, discussion spread around trying to judge authenticity based on signs said to be typical of generative AI — “the teeth are too evenly aligned,” “no garbled text” — while counterarguments pointed out that the film itself had high resolution and that the roughness was really a print-quality issue. The custom of company trips became established as a flagship employee benefit from the postwar economic boom through the bubble era, but has since scaled back alongside work-style reforms and a growing emphasis on respecting personal time off. The thread’s energy was driven less by the question of whether the image was real and more by astonishment at the sheer amount of unpaid company time it depicted — something unthinkable today.

  • Kaishu Sano Could Make Last-Minute Premier League Move — German Report Meets Skepticism on 5ch

German outlet Bild reported on September 1 that a Premier League move may be on the cards for Japan international midfielder Kaishu Sano, currently of Mainz. The transfer fee is said to be around €30 million (roughly ¥5.2 billion), though Mainz sporting director Christian Heidel had previously ruled out a late sale, saying, “We won’t let him go at the end of August — there wouldn’t be time to bring in a replacement.” Europe’s summer transfer window is set to close on September 1 European time (early morning of September 2 in Japan). On the 5ch Geisports Sokuho+ (entertainment/sports news board) thread, users questioned whether the reported fee was too low and wondered whether the story was the kind of unreliable “deadline-day filler” typical of transfer-window silly season.

A possible Premier League move has emerged for Mainz’s Japan international midfielder Kaishu Sano, German newspaper Bild reported on the 1st.

Is Kaishu Sano headed to the Premier League?

Until now, Sano had been widely expected to stay at Mainz through the summer. Indeed, Mainz sporting director Christian Heidel had previously denied a last-minute departure for Sano, telling Bild, “We won’t let him go on August 27 or 28 — if we did, we wouldn’t be able to bring in a replacement.”

Kaishu Sano is a Japan international midfielder who has played for Bundesliga side Mainz since 2023. This report comes from Germany’s Bild, and the key point is its timing — right at the very end of the summer transfer window (so-called deadline day, closing September 1 European time / early morning of the 2nd in Japan). Mainz sporting director Christian Heidel had previously denied any last-minute exit, saying “There’s no time to bring in a replacement, so there won’t be a departure at the end of August,” and many replies focused on how that squares with this new report, along with pointed skepticism that the reported fee of €30 million (roughly ¥4.8 billion) is far too cheap for a key defensive midfielder. Commenters also poked fun at the classic late-window “panic buy” narrative and the way local and Japanese outlets feed off each other’s reporting to hype up these stories, with doubt about the move happening outweighing belief that it will. Note: this article excludes baseless, sexual-crime-related insults directed at a real player that appeared in the original thread.

  • Sakura Ishiyama’s Whole Sweet Potato Turns Her Pork Soup Ultra-Sweet — 5ch: ‘Wife Material Confirmed’

Idol group Juice=Juice member Sakura Ishiyama reported on the group’s official blog that after tossing one whole sweet potato into her tonjiru (pork and vegetable miso soup), it came out sweeter than she expected. When the post got reposted to 5ch’s Hello! Project board, the discussion drifted away from the food itself and into whether someone living alone would really bother making a labor-intensive dish like tonjiru. The thread also dug up her habitual anecdotes — like buying huge amounts of sliced bread or a three-seater sofa — with many commenters praising her homemaker-like personality.

Since I had a sweet potato lying around

The more you put in, the tastier it gets, right!

Q5. What's something you always end up buying at the convenience store?

Sakura Ishiyama: Fried chicken and Jiro-style ramen

    Background and Points of Debate

Sakura Ishiyama is a member of Juice=Juice who shares updates on her daily life through the group’s official Ameblo blog. This post was originally just a lighthearted account of a cooking mishap — not measuring the sweet potato properly — but on the 5ch thread, the discussion moved past the food itself into a broader debate about lifestyle: whether someone living alone would really bother making something as involved as tonjiru. Opinions split between those who see tonjiru as a laborious dish and those who consider it a basic recipe taught in home economics class. The thread also revisited older anecdotes — like her buying huge quantities of sliced bread or a three-seater sofa — sparking speculation about her private life. It’s worth noting this speculation comes entirely from 5ch users and has not been confirmed as fact by Ishiyama herself or her agency.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hello! Project board) thread “Sakura Ishiyama: ‘I made tonjiru, and since I had a sweet potato I figured the more the merrier! So I put in a whole one, and it came out sweet’.”

  • 56% of Japanese Teens Say They Don’t Want to Pay Pension Premiums — School Lessons Make a Big Difference in Attitudes

A survey on social security awareness among junior high and high school students, reported by Bengoshi JP News, found that 56% of respondents said they don’t want to pay pension premiums in the future. This is the first nationwide survey of its kind targeting students from junior high through high school, and it also revealed a stark gap in how convinced students are of the pension system depending on whether they’d learned about it in class. On 5channel, a lively debate broke out over whether the pension system truly amounts to a “losing bet,” or whether it’s actually a good deal once benefits like disability pensions are factored in — with the discussion ranging from welfare (seikatsu hogo) comparisons to whether self-directed investing through NISA (Japan’s tax-free investment account) would be a better bet.

Even without a pension, there's still welfare
And as a safety net, welfare actually lets you live better
Unless that imbalance gets fixed, I think the number of people arguing pensions are unnecessary will keep growing

It's true that a pension plan built around paying in for 37 years from age 18 to 55 and collecting from 60 to 70 is collapsing thanks to the average lifespan now being 85
That said, if you wanted it to guarantee a standard of living equal to your working years, you'd need to put half your earnings into premiums
And on top of that, health insurance and long-term care insurance hit you hard too, lol
Abolish it? …There's no way that could actually happen
    109AnonymousSep 1, 2026 22:38
    Re: #104
That's not really the problem — the real issue is that a shrinking working-age population has to support a growing number of pension recipients because of the low birthrate and aging population
Though of course there's also the "vanished pensions" scandal on top of that
    187AnonymousSep 1, 2026 23:03
    Re: #109
If pensions were abolished, kids would end up taking care of their parents like in the old days
Back then, the eldest son's family would stay with the parents to look after them, or if they'd moved to the city, they'd take the parents in
Nowadays with fewer children, a married couple would end up taking in and caring for both sets of aging parents — and since nobody wants that, the pension system was created
If a parent becomes bedridden it gets even more of a hassle, so long-term care insurance was created to deal with that
If you scrap both pension systems and refuse to take care of them, parents will have to start taking defensive measures of their own
Like kicking kids out after junior high, not having kids in the first place, or thinking "prison offers a better life than this"… and acting on it

    Re: #198
National pension premiums are around 18,000 yen a month these days

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Japan’s public pension system isn’t a funded savings scheme — it runs on a “pay-as-you-go” basis, where premiums from the working generation support today’s elderly, and the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare maintains that viewing it as a “losing bet” misses the point. The thread tends to reduce this to a simple win/lose calculation, but it’s easy to overlook that the pension covers not just old-age benefits but also protections like disability and survivor pensions, meaning a straight comparison of premiums paid versus benefits received doesn’t capture the full picture. This survey is also the first nationwide one to target junior high and high school students, and the finding that having learned about the system in class affects how convinced students are suggests a need for better financial and social security education. That said, the original article doesn’t break down specific figures by generation, so how large the gap actually is will have to wait for more detailed disclosures.

*This article is compiled and summarized from the 5channel (News Speed+) thread “56% of Junior High and High School Students Say They Don’t Want to Pay Pension Premiums… Fears of Intergenerational Unfairness, With a Big Gap in Understanding Depending on Whether They Learned About It in Class.”

  • Weekly Shonen Jump Called a “Dark Age” — 5ch Split: “Isn’t It a Golden Age for Today’s Kids?”

A thread on 5ch’s Nandemo Jikkyo G board gained traction after arguing that Weekly Shonen Jump’s new serializations aren’t generating buzz, calling it a “dark age.” Since One Piece ended, Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia have carried the magazine’s flagship status, but posters pointed out one after another that newer titles like Kagurabachi are struggling to gain traction in sales and buzz. Alongside complaints about chronic hiatuses and the editorial department, the thread saw claims that today’s kids are spending their time on YouTube and TikTok instead of reading serialized manga, as well as pushback arguing that older fans are simply measuring things against the era of One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach — and that for today’s kids, right now is actually the golden age — exposing a generational gap in perspective.

The thing about Harumi Robinson is that just because Himesama Goumon worked out, he's back to writing another story with no real central plot
    78AnonymousSep 1, 2026 23:11
The only one left with any legs is Hunter x Hunter, and it's already got one foot in the grave

Robinson's never really drawn anything with substance to begin with, has he

Kagurabachi: not talked about much, but sales are actually decent
Ichi: gets talked about, but sales aren't really growing
Samuwan (a fan nickname, likely for Sakamoto Days): gets talked about, but sales are dropping

It's rough that these are the current flagship candidates
    80AnonymousSep 1, 2026 23:11
    Re: #75
Neither of those can become the flagship
If something like World Trigger showed up now, that might actually become the flagship
    81AnonymousSep 1, 2026 23:14
Kagurabachi's anime is being made by CygamesPictures — that's rough
This is exactly the moment they should've gotten ufotable
    87AnonymousSep 1, 2026 23:17
    Re: #81
    I don't think ufotable could've done it schedule-wise
They've got their usual Type-Moon anime lined up, plus Demon Slayer still has more to go
Though apparently the director is a huge fan of hardcore sword-fight choreography, so we'll see how that turns out
    85AnonymousSep 1, 2026 23:16
The moment they start thinking "it'll sell once it's an anime!" it's already over
At that point it's not manga anymore, just a rough draft for an anime
    88AnonymousSep 1, 2026 23:18
    Re: #85
Well, that's because of how big Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen blew up once they got anime adaptations

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

The “Jump dark age” debate is a topic that periodically flares up on 5ch, and this time it coincided with a stretch where, after One Piece ended, flagship-level titles like Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia were also wrapping up or nearing their climaxes, leaving no clear successor in place. The thread split between those who see declining quality and editorial management as the main cause, and those who point to a structural shift — manga now competing with YouTube, TikTok, and other video content for people’s limited free time. What’s easy to miss is that this kind of “dark age” judgment is usually a relative comparison rooted in each poster’s own formative years — whether the Slam Dunk/Dragon Ball generation or the One Piece/Naruto/Bleach generation — rather than an argument grounded in objective data like print runs or how long a series stays in serialization. In fact, even the sales claims made in the thread were based on gut feeling, with no concrete figures offered to back them up.

  • Home Burglaries ‘Double’ in Chikusei, Ibaraki — City to Subsidize Security Camera Installs; 5ch: “Pointless If They Don’t Even Get Prosecuted”

The city of Chikusei in Ibaraki Prefecture has launched a program to subsidize the cost of installing home security cameras, after burglaries targeting homes in the city doubled to 103 cases in 2025 from 50 the previous year. The city will cover half of eligible costs, up to a maximum of 20,000 yen.

On the 5ch thread, posters voiced frustration that even when suspects are caught on camera, they’re often never prosecuted — and questioned whether a camera that merely records footage has any deterrent effect at all. Others offered concrete self-defense tips, like motion-sensor lights and installing multiple cameras, showing a split in how residents view the crime-prevention measure.

The city of Chikusei, Ibaraki Prefecture, announced on the 1st that it has launched a program to partially subsidize the cost of installing home security cameras with recording functions, in response to a rise in burglaries targeting homes in the city.

According to the city, home burglaries in 2025 numbered 103 cases, roughly double the 50 cases recorded the previous year. The city says it wants to support households’ own voluntary crime-prevention efforts to help prevent further damage.

Residents of the city will be reimbursed for half of eligible costs — including camera purchase and installation work — up to a maximum of 20,000 yen.

Are you dumb? Even if the camera catches them and they get arrested, they won't be prosecuted anyway, so what's the point.
    73AnonymousSep 1, 2026 20:15
The government should just install more security cameras itself.
That would make follow-up investigations way smoother.

This whole "relay investigation" thing — where they go around asking each individual household with a camera for cooperation to trace the guy's route — is way too inefficient. Meanwhile he's already skipped the country.

All they have to do is cover their face, so a camera that just records footage is completely pointless.

It needs to actually function as a deterrent, or there's no point.

Like blaring a siren at full volume,
or playing warning announcements in multiple languages.

Hasn't it felt like more people are wandering onto other people's property lately?
All sorts of excuses — cutting through, a ball rolled in — and you see it a lot with kids.
Heck, sometimes the parents come in too.
    Without even ringing the doorbell.
Kids these days probably don't get scolded by their parents for it, so the bar for trespassing onto someone else's land has gotten lower.

Physically marking off your property boundary costs money too, you know — that's what "exterior construction" work is for.
Heck, with housing prices these days, plenty of homes don't even have storm shutters or window bars anymore.
    171AnonymousSep 1, 2026 21:26
It's pointless since they don't even get prosecuted lol

    Background and Key Points

Chikusei’s subsidy program covers half of purchase and installation costs, up to a cap of 20,000 yen, aiming to lower the upfront cost of installing security cameras. Behind the move lies the reality of low arrest rates for burglary and a tendency for cases, even when solved, to end without prosecution — a point of frequent skepticism in the thread, where “just recording footage is meaningless” was a common refrain.

At the same time, security cameras are expected to have some benefits beyond arrest rates alone, such as identifying suspects, deterring crime in the surrounding area, and even reducing insurance premiums. The thread also included claims about the proportion of crimes committed by foreign nationals, but since these involved unverified figures and one-sided framing, such unsubstantiated assertions were excluded from this article. Whether the camera subsidy program proves effective will only become clear by tracking future installation numbers and crime statistics.
