  • Shohei Ohtani Out of Starting Lineup for Cardinals Game — Homerless in 60 At-Bats Over Last 12 Games After 4-Strikeout Outing

Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani was left out of the starting lineup for the September 3 (local time) game against the Cardinals. He struck out in all four at-bats the day before, extending a slump in which he’s now gone homerless in 60 at-bats over his last 12 games. With the outlook for his continued two-way play this season uncertain, the benching set off a mix of reactions on 5channel’s Geinou/Sports News+ board — some saying he should be rested, others voicing concern over his health and future career. Discussion also turned to how his workload should be split between pitching and hitting going forward.

Not worth watching without Ohtani in the lineup.
Sorry, but Yamamoto and Roki (Sasaki) just aren't in the same league — different level of draw entirely.

NHK pays MLB something like 15 billion yen every year for broadcast rights.
    That's money down the drain.
Isn't that basically our tax money at that point? (NHK is funded by a mandatory license fee, so people gripe about it like a tax)

The people who opposed the two-way experiment from the start said "his body won't hold up" — and that's starting to look right.
He's past his physical peak too, so the two-way approach needs serious rethinking for next season and beyond.
Why not just split it by season — pitcher one year, hitter the next?
During pitching seasons he could still come in as a pinch hitter now and then.

    Agreed.
I think he should focus purely on pitching, and not as a starter — more like closer or setup duty.

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

Ohtani is attempting the two-way pitcher-hitter role again this season, and the combination of his recent slump and being left out of the lineup split opinion in the thread: some speculated he might be headed for the Injured List (IL), while others figured it was simply a scheduled rest day. Whether he was actually placed on the IL can’t be confirmed from the source article excerpt alone, which includes only the date and matchup. Debate also touched on how his workload should be managed going forward if the two-way experiment continues, including proposals to move him from starting pitcher to a relief role, or to split pitching and hitting duties by season. Some posts also mocked Ohtani’s physique and physical condition; comments amounting to baseless slander or abuse have been excluded from this article.

  • MLB Scouts from ~10 Teams Eye Hanshin’s Sato Teruaki — Fans Split Over Posting System

Hanshin Tigers slugger Sato Teruaki reportedly drew intense interest from major-league scouts — from roughly 10 teams, including the Yankees, Blue Jays, and Astros — during a 3-game interleague series at Jingu Stadium. The report has split opinion on 5channel over whether he should be posted to MLB. Team/league-first voices argue “NPB shouldn’t give up its stars while the league is thriving,” while player-first voices counter that “he should be allowed to challenge MLB early, while his talent is still peaking.” The debate has spread to comparisons with Murakami Munetaka and Okamoto Kazuma, and to the impact on Hanshin’s bid for a third straight title next season.

    >During the 3-game series at Jingu, scouts from roughly 10 teams — including the Yankees, Blue Jays, Astros, Athletics, White Sox, Rangers, Phillies, and Tigers — were watching him closely.

The Yankees would honestly be the least jarring fit, image-wise

Background and Key Points of This Topic

The posting system is a mechanism that prevents a player from moving overseas without his team’s consent, and it’s left to each team to decide when to release a core player before he earns domestic free-agent rights. In the past, SoftBank refused to approve Senga Kodai’s move for several years, while Fujinami Shintaro and Aoyagi Koyo were sent off relatively quickly — clubs’ stances have historically varied depending on how vital the player is. In the thread, a team/NPB-first view — that the league loses excitement next season if a star leaves — clashes with a player-first view that he should be allowed to challenge MLB while young and highly regarded. However, the original report only states that scouts were watching him closely; it never confirms whether Sato himself actually wants to be posted, a point readers can easily misread.

    Banned from Tokyo lol

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

The backdrop here is that FIFA regulations generally restrict international transfers for players under 18. In recent years, it’s become increasingly common for major European clubs to run their own development academies abroad as a way to lock down promising young talent early, and Barcelona is no exception. In the thread, commenters pointed out that scouting talent at the target age of 16 to 18 seems late in the game, and noted that similar schools overseas haven’t produced notable results — skepticism about the plan’s cost-effectiveness stood out. At the same time, some took the view that the chance to receive a storied club’s training methods domestically is itself rare, so opinions were split. It’s also worth noting that, based on this announcement alone, there’s no way to tell whether this school will directly strengthen the local J3 side, Nara Club.

  • Prime Video to Double Investment in Japanese Original Content — 5ch: ‘Oshi no Ko Was Great’

On September 3, Amazon held its strategy presentation “Prime Video Presents Tokyo” in Tokyo, announcing plans to more than double its investment in Japanese original productions going forward. Nine notable titles were showcased, including a live-action adaptation of “The Apothecary Diaries” and the newest installment in the “Silent Service” series, with the company also signaling a renewed focus on sports and anime. On 5ch, opinions flew over which Amazon originals hit and which missed — comments like “Oshi no Ko was good, but Like a Dragon wasn’t” were common — while news that HBO Max would become available for an extra fee starting in October also drew attention.

    Background and Key Points

Prime Video competes with Netflix, Hulu, and U-NEXT in Japan’s domestic streaming market, and aims to solidify its subscriber base by rolling out buzzworthy original titles. The HBO Max integration mentioned in the thread, launching in October, is part of Amazon’s push to expand its lineup by bringing in overseas studio content, and will require an extra fee even for existing members. “The Apothecary Diaries” is based on a popular novel/anime series; its screenwriter, Erika Yoshida, is also known for the “Bocchi the Rock” anime adaptation, though she previously drew attention for comments about the source material’s depictions — fueling interest in this live-action version as well. In the thread, many voiced the view that Amazon’s past originals have been “hit or miss,” sparking discussion that went beyond simple like-or-dislike reactions.

Masako Ohara (50), wife of former MLB pitcher Mac Suzuki and member of the comedy duo “Kuwabata Ohara,” revealed on her blog on September 4th that she’d moved from the 2nd floor of a tower condominium in Suma Ward, Kobe, into a secondhand detached house — and confessed that the renovation left her “deeply regretting it” and “pretty down in the dumps.” The house reportedly also came with a bat infestation. On a 5channel thread, discussion spread out to cover home-buying topics in general: whether bats pose any real health risk and how to get rid of them, what it’s actually like living on a tower condo’s lower floors, and the security differences between detached houses and tower condos.

    1. Maybe because on the mid-to-upper floors of a tower condo, you end up waiting forever for the elevator?
    2. The seismic-isolation structure in high-rises and tower condos keeps the shaking down to around intensity 3 even in a bigger earthquake, but it takes a while for the building's own sway to settle, so some people end up feeling seasick.

Yeah, it tends to be the floor people look down on even if you live there. The only real upsides of deliberately choosing a low floor in a tower condo
are that it's cheaper and easier to deal with in a disaster —
but then again, low floors also carry more risk if the building itself collapses in a disaster.

    81AnonymousSep 5, 2026 03:10
    Re: #79
Apparently it can make kids, young people, and dogs/cats feel sick, though.

Background and key points of this discussion

Tower condominiums tend to be valued more for asset worth and views the higher up you go, so living on a low floor — like the 2nd floor here — keeps the price down but comes at the cost of the brand cachet and perks that tower-condo living is known for. What split opinion in the thread was whether to view the move to a detached house as a “step down” or a “sensible decision.” On bats, some pointed out that there have been almost no confirmed cases of bat-borne disease in Japan in recent decades, while others noted that although ultrasonic devices are considered effective as a repellent, there are concerns about their effects on infants and pets. The thread also touched on the recent string of home-invasion burglaries and which is safer — a detached house or a condo — but opinions differed depending on security equipment and regional factors, so it’s worth keeping in mind that safety can’t simply be compared based on housing type alone.

    Background and Key Points

Nintendo Direct is Nintendo’s regularly scheduled game-info broadcast; separately, the company sometimes holds standalone Directs focused on a single franchise. This time, an unusual schedule saw a standalone Direct for the Legend of Zelda’s 40th anniversary and a regular Nintendo Direct booked on two consecutive days. Sony’s State of Play, held the day before and heavily discussed in the thread, is a frequent point of comparison against Nintendo announcements on 5ch’s console/industry (“Geha”) board, and this time was no exception. That said, specific content floated in the thread — such as a sneak peek of the Ocarina of Time live-action film or a teaser for a new 3D Zelda game — is purely fan speculation and hope, not anything Nintendo has officially confirmed. Whether these hoped-for reveals actually happen won’t be known until the broadcasts air.

  • New Home, 7 Months In: ‘Top-Tier Features’ Claim Splits 5ch — ‘Once Things Break, the Money Flies Out’

A thread starter who built a new single-family home seven months ago touted its comfort by listing specific features: a dishwasher, whole-house air conditioning, a parcel delivery box, Ecocarat tile walls, a smart-key entrance, and an app-connected fridge and microwave oven. This drew pushback — comments like ‘rentals are comfortable too’ and ‘used homes are good enough’ — along with the observation that ‘the difference shows up around the 20-year mark,’ splitting the thread between those who valued new-build comfort and those focused on future repair costs. The thread starter also revealed that the home is actually a rental apartment building built as an investment, with the top floor set up as a penthouse where they live.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

The “standardization” of housing equipment has been advancing year by year, and features like parcel delivery boxes, bathroom dryers, and highly insulated building materials are no longer unusual in new homes today. On the other hand, homes built 20 years ago were constructed to the standards of an era when insulation grade 2–3 was the norm, making a direct performance comparison difficult. It’s also worth noting that the thread starter is in an unusual position — having built a rental apartment building as an investment and living on the top floor as a penthouse — which differs from a typical single-family home purchase. Alongside envious comments in the thread, there were also concerns that “repair costs could pile up a few years down the line” and counterarguments that “rentals are plenty comfortable too,” so opinions on new-build features were far from unanimous. The fact that specific fixtures like Ecocarat tiles and sensor lights were named in detail also makes it useful as a firsthand account.

  • Novelist: ‘Put Kawanishi Yuina on TV and She’d Captivate the Whole Nation’ — Post Splits Opinion

A novelist’s post on X — “It’s understandable that Juice=Juice appears on music shows, but if Kawanishi Yuina were featured based purely on how good her singing is, she’d surely captivate everyone” — became a hot topic on a Hello! Project-focused thread. Kawanishi Yuina is a member of Juice=Juice, a Hello! Project group. The post drew pushback (“who are you to call it ‘understandable’”), and it also reignited old grudges over how Juice=Juice and Tsubaki Factory were formed, member transfers between the two, and the long-running friction between their fanbases — turning into a debate that went well beyond the original post.

    Background and Points of Contention

Juice=Juice and Tsubaki Factory are both Hello! Project groups, and the thread repeatedly circles back to how their formation histories are intertwined. Members such as Juju Asakura and Ami Tanimoto were reportedly originally expected to join Juice=Juice, but when Karin Miyamoto’s planned move to Morning Musume.’14 fell through, Tsubaki Factory was hastily formed instead — this has long been cited as the starting point of the rivalry between the two groups’ fanbases. The thread also repeatedly brings up claims that many former members of ‘Little Glamers’ had hoped to join Juice=Juice. That said, these are accounts that have circulated among fans over time, and it’s worth noting they’re distinct from any officially confirmed account of events. What divided the thread wasn’t so much Kawanishi Yuina’s own merits, but rather the question of “which group delivered results under tougher conditions” — differing interpretations of past broadcast opportunities and shifts in member popularity fueled the disagreement.

“Aka,” a panelist on the YouTube debate show “wakatte.tv,” has come under fire after old footage resurfaced of him saying, “I graduated from Kyoto University, lol” — when in fact he never graduated and had dropped out. The show is known for its style of panelists openly roasting each other’s academic backgrounds and work performance, so the irony of the very person who dishes out that mockery having padded his own credentials struck a nerve. On 5channel, opinions split between defenders and critics, and the discussion spread to cover the response of a politician said to have defended the show, as well as a debate over a co-star’s educational background.

Just getting accepted is impressive enough on its own.

Background and Key Points of This Story

wakatte.tv is known for its debate format in which panelists openly roast each other’s academic backgrounds and work performance, and “Aka” was often the one dishing out jokes about other panelists’ schools. This time, the controversy centers on the fact that Aka himself — despite usually being the one doing the roasting — had once said, “I graduated from Kyoto University, lol,” even though he never actually graduated and had dropped out instead. On the thread, opinions split between defenders (“just getting in is impressive enough”) and critics (“it’s rich for someone who’s used his academic background to mock others to have exaggerated his own”). The discussion also spread to cover exchanges about co-star Taizo Sugimura’s educational background and the response of a politician said to have defended the show — though claims lacking solid grounding, along with anything amounting to excessive personal attacks on real politicians, have been left out of this piece.

  • Dawnwalker Under Fire Over Blood Depictions — Dev Statement: ‘We’ve Begun Addressing It,’ Sparking Debate Over CERO

The official X account for the dark fantasy game “Dawnwalker” issued a statement titled “To Our Japanese Community,” announcing that it has begun addressing the content that had been criticized in the Japanese version, including adding other language options. The move appears to be a response to the growing backlash in Japan over the game’s blood depictions. In 5ch live discussion threads, users debated the legitimacy of changing content after it has already passed CERO review, explained that CERO isn’t a legal censorship body but rather an organization that provides industry self-regulation guidelines, and brought up past cases — like FF14 and the Atelier series — where a rating changed after release.

    Translation: To Our Japanese Community

We take the feedback we’ve received from all of you seriously, and we’re writing to let you know that we have begun addressing the points raised regarding the Japanese version.

Not just Steam, the PS version too?
Can CERO even review something after it's already shipped?
    5AnonymousSep 4, 2026 20:55

There's still a chance Bandai Namco, the domestic publisher, steps in to stop this.

    43AnonymousSep 4, 2026 21:19
There are a few cases, few as they are, where the rating changed after release — FF14 changed on purpose (B→C→D), and Atelier changed after a slip-up (A→B) — so it's basically up to the publisher.
    44AnonymousSep 4, 2026 21:20
    Re: #43
This one's already rated Z to begin with though.
    49AnonymousSep 4, 2026 21:23
Just putting Japanese back into the overseas version would be fine too.
The censorship of stuff besides blood is annoying as well.
    53AnonymousSep 4, 2026 21:27
    Re: #49
    Exactly this.
CERO has no power to force overseas publishers to leave Japanese out of the international version.
If every Western developer just made that the norm, anyone who wants to play uncensored could simply make an overseas account and buy it there —
that would effectively neuter CERO entirely.
    55AnonymousSep 4, 2026 21:30
This has nothing to do with CERO.
If they were trying to squeeze into a B rating, sure, but this was rated Z from the very start.

    Re: #75
The developer making a statement on X about it is pretty wild in itself…
    85AnonymousSep 4, 2026 22:42
Does everyone actually understand CERO's stance?
They don't 'impose restrictions' on a work themselves.
They just 'provide guidelines' for what content can go through distribution channels.
So according to CERO, the restriction itself is just the publisher 'self-regulating' based on those guidelines.
Their stance is: 'We (CERO) aren't the ones forcing the restrictions.'
Basically: 'If you're unhappy, feel free to strip out all the restrictions — we just won't be able to get it onto shelves, that's all.'
And since you can't sell without getting onto store shelves or storefronts, it's not viable as a business, so publishers end up having no choice but to follow the guidelines.

So the logic is: if you have complaints, take it up with the publisher, not CERO, since it's the publisher doing the self-regulating.
    92AnonymousSep 4, 2026 23:18
    Re: #85
CERO originally started as an internal division of CESA, and was spun off as an independent outside body once the public grew sensitive to games' potential effects on minors.
Game companies alone weren't seen as credible enough to fend off public criticism, so they brought in figures like a former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and educators from famous schools to boost their authority.

And CESA, as you probably know, is the symbol of the third-party publisher alliance from Japan's PlayStation golden age.
It's an organization publishers created to protect their own interests.

Since it's a regulatory body backed by CESA, which functioned as that third-party alliance's secretariat, almost every domestic game publisher is a member.
    94AnonymousSep 4, 2026 23:35
Isn't it just Steam that's getting the restrictions lifted?
    Not sure about Xbox,
but PS will probably stay as is.
    98AnonymousSep 4, 2026 23:52
    Re: #94
    Yeah, that's my guess too.

Background and Discussion Points on This Topic

CERO originally began as an internal division of the game publisher association CESA, and was later spun off as an independent third-party body in response to growing social criticism over the effects games might have on minors. It is not a legal body but an industry self-regulation organization — CERO itself doesn’t impose “restrictions”; rather, it sets guidelines for content that retailers and distributors will carry, and publishers adjust their content to fit those guidelines. In the thread, some questioned, “If content can be changed after review, what’s the point of the review?” — but there are precedents of ratings changing after release, as with FF14 and the Atelier series, and how a patch is handled is largely left to the publisher’s discretion. It’s an easy point to misunderstand that Dawnwalker’s PS version is still being sold under its original Z rating, meaning CERO’s review standards themselves haven’t actually been shaken. Some raised a political angle, suggesting the game is “on the LDP’s radar,” but this is speculation from some posters and hasn’t been backed up by any official statement or by those involved.
