  • Hikaru on unauthorized reposting of his paid videos: “I’ll seize their bank account even if they’re on welfare”

YouTuber Hikaru (35) has released a video showing himself, accompanied by a lawyer, directly confronting a user who allegedly reposted his membership-exclusive paid videos without permission. In the video, Hikaru states that “ordinary YouTube clips are fine, but reposting paid content is simply not okay,” and adds that he intends to seize the person’s bank account even if they are a welfare recipient. In response, a thread on 5channel’s Geinou/Sports News+ board saw a wave of comments that, while agreeing his stance against unauthorized reposting was reasonable, questioned whether the statement was actually feasible, since welfare benefits are legally protected from seizure.

    September 4, 2026, 7:28 PM

YouTuber Hikaru (35) updated his official YouTube channel by September 4th, addressing the issue of his paid membership videos (¥490/month) being reposted without authorization.

The video, uploaded under the title “Raphael reposted my paid video without permission, so I brought a lawyer and went to confront him in person,” shows fellow YouTuber Raphael asking, “So clips themselves aren’t a problem, right?” to which Hikaru replies, “Ordinary YouTube clips are fine. But paid content is simply not okay.”

He got famous off a video exposing the trick behind festival stall (tekiya) lottery games, which even got picked up by TV (who knows if it was staged though).
He originally built his success by being seen as a "good guy" who won people's sympathy.
If he goes after illegal streamers of anime, dramas, and movies, he might win back more supporters.
But if it turns out to be staged again, this could really be the end for him.

You can still receive benefits if your income doesn't reach the minimum standard.

    60AnonymousSep 4, 2026 22:57
Accounts registered under a welfare recipient's name get monitored by the local government office,
so any deposits end up getting confiscated by the authorities.
If they had YouTube revenue, it should already have been confiscated.
If there's regular income, welfare benefits get suspended.
    62AnonymousSep 4, 2026 22:59
I get where Hikaru's coming from, but seizing welfare benefits just isn't possible.
    Too bad.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Welfare benefits are among the assets protected from seizure under Japan’s Public Assistance Act and Civil Execution Act, and even once such funds land in a bank account, seizure is effectively very difficult as long as their origin as welfare payments can be established. What split opinion in the thread wasn’t whether cracking down on unauthorized reposting was justified, but whether Hikaru’s claim that he’d “collect even from welfare recipients” is legally feasible at all. Many replies cited the fact that welfare benefits are protected from seizure to question the statement, while others expressed support for his hard line against unauthorized reposting itself. Notably, when a welfare recipient earns income, it is in principle deducted from or offset against their benefits — the thread didn’t dig deeply into how the system would actually treat someone who has enough income to afford a paid membership in the first place.

Yeah, fair enough. Guys say "I like you" because they want to sleep with you. Otherwise they won't get to. Not romantic feelings at all lol

Background and key points of this topic

“Can friendship between men and women really exist?” is a recurring evergreen debate topic on 5ch, and this round was sparked by Mori Kasumi voicing a concern from the women’s side: “Even when I clearly say we’re just friends, the guy ends up developing romantic feelings anyway.” The thread saw several posts trying to explain the presence or absence of romantic feelings using evolutionary-psychology-style reasoning, but it’s worth noting that none of this is based on actual statistics or research — it’s just personal opinion on an anonymous message board. On top of that, neither the “it doesn’t exist” camp nor the “it does exist” camp ever agreed on a shared definition of “friendship” (e.g., whether sexual interest or mutual benefit is involved), so the discussion talked past itself and never converged.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Geinou/Sports News Plus) thread “[Entertainment] Mori Kasumi weighs in on “friendship between men and women”: “Women struggle with this too” / “Even when I declare we’re just friends, the other person ends up developing romantic feelings anyway”.”

J2 club Montedio Yamagata held a press briefing on September 4 about the new stadium under construction in Tendo City, announcing that work is roughly 10% complete and progressing on schedule. The stadium is going up just south of the existing ND Soft Stadium Yamagata, with a design that touts getting fans as close as 8 meters from the players, and it’s aiming to open in 2028. On 5ch, the thread buzzed with skepticism about calling the project “on track” when it’s barely a tenth finished so soon after breaking ground, curiosity about how much of the total budget is actually secured, and discussion of the design skipping one side’s stands for now, with expansion planned for later.

Seriously, why does Nagoya even have to use that track-and-field stadium? There's already a dedicated ball-sports stadium in Toyota.

    Background and Talking Points

The new stadium is being built adjacent to ND Soft Stadium Yamagata in Tendo City, and the only fact confirmed in the source article is the 10% progress figure — the funding breakdown discussed here is speculation based on 5ch posts. The figures claiming Escon is covering 5 billion yen, local government 3 billion yen, with the remaining 8 billion yen still unaccounted for, come from user posts rather than any official announcement and remain unverified. Building one side’s stands first and expanding later to roughly 20,000 capacity is a design approach shared by several recent J.League stadiums, keeping initial costs down while allowing expansion to match demand — commenters cited Hiroshima’s Peace Wing Stadium, reportedly praised by the head of the Japan Sports Agency, as a similar example. Much of the rest of the thread, however, consisted of baseball-versus-soccer fan rivalry and jabs at a particular YouTuber critical of stadium construction, exchanges which fall outside the scope of this article.

It was old-fashioned, heavily salted mackerel, and my mom would fry it
With all that oil and salt it was a dangerously good side that made you keep shoveling in rice

I don't know what point you're trying to make with that image, but
if 'there's something on top of the rice and it smells, so I hate it' is the standard,
then I say just eat nothing but separated dishes — rice bowls included

Are your taste buds really that refined to begin with?
    79AnonymousSep 4, 2026 23:20
    Re: #56
    That's a rice bowl or a mixed-rice combo,
which is different from what Matsuko and the others are talking about
If instead of just grilling mackerel and plopping it on rice they seasoned it properly kabayaki-style like a real rice bowl,
then bringing up that image as a comparison would make sense
    58AnonymousSep 4, 2026 22:47
More than the smell, it just gets in the way of eating the rice
You have to move it somewhere first but there's nowhere to put it
Usually I just flip the lid over and set it there

    Something like this?

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

It’s worth noting that this topic originated from casual chat on a TV Asahi talk show, not a feature segment on a news program. In recent years, bento boxes have trended toward smaller containers and rising costs, driving a shift toward “one-plate” style bentos that pile side dishes on the rice to cut down on the number of separate items — and complaints about shrinking rice portions and pricier containers were prominent in the thread (comments 8, 11, 14, 26). At the same time, Matsuko’s comment itself was less about “smell” and more a matter of taste regarding appearance and texture, and one comment (33) pointed to cooking method (grilling versus torch-searing) as the actual cause of the mackerel’s odor, raising a technical point that went beyond simple likes and dislikes. Where the thread split was over whether to view this kind of criticism as “a celebrity’s pampered complaint” or as “a fair jab at the realities of the bento industry” — a divide the comments alone don’t resolve.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Geinou/Sports Breaking News+) thread “Matsuko speaks out on recent bento trends: “I don’t know about putting it on top of the rice” — Ariyoshi too: “Salted mackerel… I think it smells”.”

  • Shiraku fires back at ‘think of those who can’t have kids’ critics: ‘Celebrating them is just what humans do’

On September 4, rakugo storyteller Tatekawa Shiraku pushed back on X against calls for more consideration toward adults without children. Citing a post by Hiroyuki, who had pointed out that “some people demand consideration for those who can’t have kids whenever someone happily posts about a birth,” Shiraku argued that “isn’t celebrating a child’s birth just what it means to be human?” On 5channel, the thread ranged widely — from debate over how much consideration childless people are owed, to sarcastic jabs referencing Shiraku’s own past personal life, to views on singlehood in an era of declining birthrates and manners around raising children in public.

    Fri, Sep 4, 7:58 PM

Rakugo performer Tatekawa Shiraku (63) updated his X (formerly Twitter) account on the 4th, sharing his personal take on calls for “thinking about the feelings of people who can’t have kids.”

Shiraku opened with: “Hiroyuki was lamenting on X. Apparently there are people who say it’s wrong to post happily on X about things like a baby being born, because it shows a lack of consideration toward adults who don’t have kids. Their reasoning is that more consideration should be shown to people without kids. What is the world coming to.”

Background and Key Points of the Debate

The “be considerate of people who can’t have children” controversy started when Shiraku responded to a post from Hiroyuki, and underneath it lies a broader clash of views over Japan’s declining birthrate. In the thread, many commenters pointedly brought up — with a sarcastic edge — the fact that Shiraku’s own wife had an affair (with one of his apprentices) back in 2016. Terms like “konashi” and “koashi” (both meaning “childless”) are common shorthand on 5channel and can carry a derogatory tone depending on context. Complaints about children’s noise in public spaces — strollers on trains, kids in parks — ran alongside the main debate; it’s easy to miss that this isn’t simply a “should we be considerate or not” argument, but one tangled up with a separate debate over childrearing manners in public.

  • Is posting homemade Chiikawa figures on social media okay? The line depends on sales and ad revenue

The smash-hit film ‘Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of Mermaid Island’ has left official merchandise in short supply, and homemade figures made by fans are now trending on social media. After Bengo4.com News covered the story, 5ch users traded opinions like “Just posting it should be fine, right?” and “Isn’t it a problem once sales or ad revenue get involved?” Opinions split over where exactly to draw the line — including cases where someone pays another person to make a figure for them, and how to treat cases where likes and view counts translate directly into income.

    Re: #181
Only if you're making money off it.

Background and key points of this debate

Under Japanese copyright law, turning a character into a 3D figure counts as reproduction/adaptation and in principle requires the rights holder’s permission. Making one privately just for your own enjoyment generally falls within the bounds of private-use reproduction and isn’t much of an issue, but posting it on social media goes beyond “private use,” which is technically considered a gray area. The thread’s central debate was over the difference between simply posting something versus monetizing it through sales, ad revenue, or affiliate marketing — the latter causing greater harm to the rights holder’s interests and being viewed as more clearly problematic. At the same time, doujin markets like Comiket only function the way they do because organizers proactively screen out works that infringe copyright — the fact that something is “tacitly tolerated” is not the same as it being “legal,” a distinction that’s easy to misunderstand. There was also the point that paying someone else to make a figure for you could itself amount to commissioning an unauthorized reproduction of a copyrighted work, making it different from simple private enjoyment.

In the September 4th Yakult–Chunichi game, both teams repeatedly squandered scoring chance after scoring chance in a battle of botched at-bats, and the 5ch live-thread lit up with cries of a ‘historically garbage game.’ Chunichi loaded the bases with two outs in the 5th, loaded them again with one out in the 7th, and had a runner on 2nd with two outs in the 9th — all without scoring. The real deal really is on another level
Truly in a class of its own

Background and Key Points of This Story

“Kuso jiai” (crap game) is well-worn 5ch slang for games marked by repeated weak at-bats and botched chances — it functions less as a jab at any individual player than as mockery of the game’s flow itself. This game blew up because both teams kept building scoring chances — two outs with the bases loaded, one out with the bases loaded, and so on — only to come away empty again and again; even in professional baseball, this degree of lopsided scoring inefficiency is rare. As the rain grew heavier through the game, some in the thread wondered aloud whether it might get called early due to weather. Note that the actual final score and how the game was ultimately settled are not stated in the thread — the discussion centers squarely on reactions to the repeated “chances squandered” pattern from the early innings through the late innings.

  • “Everyone With a Tattoo Is an Idiot”: Tattoo Artist’s Claim Splits Opinion — He Fires Back at Critics

Tattoo artist and YouTuber Shigechi (over 150,000 subscribers, 23 years in the trade) sparked a stir with a video titled “Everyone who gets a tattoo is an idiot,” posted on August 4. On September 2, he released a follow-up video laying out his reasoning in response to the backlash. On 5ch, opinions split between commenters who agreed with him and those who argued that getting a tattoo isn’t inherently a bad thing. One of his catchphrases, “looks like they showed up clutching just 5,000 yen” (roughly $35), got an especially big reaction, as did a poster who shared a personal story about raising kids while having tattoos.

    September 4, 2026, 7:34 PM

Shigechi, a YouTuber who has worked as a tattoo artist for more than 20 years, updated his YouTube channel on September 2, 2026, laying out his reasoning in response to the criticism sparked by his claim — which went viral on social media — that “people with tattoos are idiots.”

Shigechi says he has more than 150,000 subscribers and 23 years of experience as a tattoo artist. He also has tattoos covering his entire body. The controversy stems from a video he posted on August 4, whose title makes the claim that “everyone who gets a tattoo is an idiot.”

Tattoos are self-expression, part of who I am — I have the right to get them and the right to show them.
So I flatly refused, and I still pick my kid up in a tank top every summer.

"Which one of you called us idiots, huh?!"

Background and Key Points of This Debate

This kind of provocative “X are idiots” title from YouTubers is a classic outrage-marketing pattern designed to draw criticism and rack up views — and given that Shigechi himself is a tattoo artist covered in tattoos, it’s reasonable to read the video’s title as little more than an exaggerated hook to pull in viewers. What splits opinion in the thread is that two separate judgments — whether getting a tattoo is inherently wrong, versus whether tattooed people tend to be reckless or lack life planning — are getting blended together; even most people defending him take the qualified position that “tattoos themselves aren’t bad, but most people who get them are careless,” so this isn’t a clean for-or-against split. It’s also worth noting that lines like “90% idiots, 10% normal” are just Shigechi’s personal impression, not backed by any actual statistics — something readers could easily mistake for a real figure. And the phrase “looks like they showed up clutching 5,000 yen,” which got a big reaction in the thread, is an established bit he’s used in past videos, not a new line coined this time.

*This article is compiled as an excerpt/summary of the 5ch (Geisports Sokuho+) thread “Tattoo artist who claimed “everyone with a tattoo is an idiot” fires back at critics: “Only an idiot gets mad at being called an idiot,” “You knew you were a minority when you got it”.”

  • Median Financial Assets of Single People in Their 40s-50s: ¥1 Million — 5ch: “We’re Single Because We’re Poor”

A public opinion survey on household financial behavior published in 2025 by the Japan Financial Literacy and Education Corporation (J-FLEC) revealed that the median amount of financial assets held by single-person households in their 40s and 50s was between ¥1 million and ¥1.2 million. The average, meanwhile, spikes to around ¥9.99 million, apparently because a handful of wealthy individuals are skewing the number upward. On 5ch, reactions to the results were split — from resigned takes like “singles don’t need savings because they’ll die before collecting their pension” to skepticism about the survey itself, with users asking, “what’s the benefit of answering this kind of survey honestly?”

When today's 40- and 50-year-olds become unable to work, there's expected to be a flood of people applying for welfare, and as a countermeasure there are plans to create a new assistance system with a lower benefit level than welfare. Re: #92
Anyone who answers a sketchy survey like this seriously is a certified idiot.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Unlike the “average” (roughly ¥9.99 million for single-person households), which is easily skewed by data from a wealthy minority, this “median” figure is considered a more realistic benchmark reflecting the situation of ordinary people. The gap between the median for single-person households (¥1 million to ¥1.2 million) and for households of two or more (¥7 million) became a hot topic in the thread, but this is more likely the result of multiple factors — such as income and health — rather than marital status being a direct cause of asset accumulation, so it would be premature to simplify it as “getting married increases your assets.” It’s also worth keeping in mind that, because this type of survey relies on self-reported questionnaires, some respondents likely under-report their actual asset amounts, meaning the real figures could be somewhat higher than what’s shown here.

When she first revealed the arrangement on a different show on June 9, she said the main reason was that “both of us wanted to become a family without either of us changing our surname,” adding that she would have opted for a legal marriage if Japan had a selective separate-surname system for married couples. On 5channel, the thread mixed skepticism about why she disclosed this at all, debate over the selective separate-surname system itself, and concerns about how the child’s surname and family registry would be handled — with the discussion eventually spilling over into broader political debate.

TBS announcer Erika Yamamoto (32) appeared on the station’s radio program “Jane Su: Seikatsu wa Odoru” (weekdays Mon-Thu, 11:00 AM), broadcast on the 2nd, and once again explained why she chose a common-law marriage.

She first revealed the common-law marriage on the station’s radio program “Ogiue Chiki’s Session,” broadcast June 9. She explained her reason for not pursuing a legal marriage: “The main reason is that both my husband and I wanted to become a family without changing our surnames.” She added that if the selective separate-surname system for married couples existed, “I would have chosen a legal marriage.”

She seems like she's got a strong personality, huh?

"Yeah, because I got scolded for touching her hand on the radio."

    She's just copying overseas celebrities.
The legal process is different, and it's not even an international marriage.
    20AnonymousSep 4, 2026 22:08
Eh, it's fine, isn't it? Freedom, freedom!
    25AnonymousSep 4, 2026 22:09
    As expected of her —
she's not like some random nobody announcer.

Young people only grow by surpassing those who came before them.
Anyone who clings to old folks' "common sense" like it's sacred is just a fool.

We should keep pushing forward and trying new things.
    40AnonymousSep 4, 2026 22:13
What about the kid's surname, huh?
Don't just do whatever's convenient for yourselves.

    Re: #40
They're not legally married, so it'd be the mother's surname, since she's the one who gave birth.
    41AnonymousSep 4, 2026 22:13
If she's really got that much resistance to legal marriage,
she shouldn't get married even if the selective separate-surname system gets introduced lol
    43AnonymousSep 4, 2026 22:13
    >>"I felt strong resistance to legal marriage"

    I get that, honestly.
    48AnonymousSep 4, 2026 22:14
An acquaintance of mine who was openly in a common-law marriage decided in advance whose surname the kid would take, then filed the marriage registration just for the birth and divorced again right after.
    51AnonymousSep 4, 2026 22:14
If she didn't want to change her surname, she should've just found herself a guy named Yamamoto to begin with.
    52AnonymousSep 4, 2026 22:15
Wishing prosperity upon the Yamamoto clan.
I can feel her strong resolve.
    53AnonymousSep 4, 2026 22:15
It's pretty impressive that both sets of parents are on board with this too.
    62AnonymousSep 4, 2026 22:18
    >"I don't want to be the one who 'joins' his family, and I don't want to force that on my partner either"

    That makes no sense.
There are idiots out there who say things like "we filed in" (a common Japanese phrase for getting married), but what actually happens is a new household register gets created for the married couple. The only requirement is that you pick one of the two surnames for it.
    73AnonymousSep 4, 2026 22:21
She said she absolutely didn't want to change the Yamamoto surname, but she could've just had her husband take the Yamamoto name instead.

If he refused, they're just not that into each other to begin with. They should get divorced.
    75AnonymousSep 4, 2026 22:21
Can she even get single-mother welfare benefits like this?
    77AnonymousSep 4, 2026 22:22
Guess TBS really does screen new hires for their ideology, huh?

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Japan’s Civil Code requires married couples to unify under a single surname when entering a legal marriage, and common-law marriage is often chosen precisely as a way around this requirement. At the same time, common-law marriage typically doesn’t carry many of the rights granted under legal marriage — the spousal tax deduction, inheritance rights, and child custody among them — so real constraints remain for those who choose it. Some comments in the thread conflated the current system, under which a maiden name can still be used professionally as a “common name,” with the separate legal requirement to unify surnames on the family register. The debate over a selective separate-surname system has also stalled in Japan’s parliament for years, and this thread included posts tying the fate of that legislation to individual politicians’ private lives — but that’s a separate matter from Yamamoto’s own explanation, and it’s worth noting these claims were stated as fact without confirmation.
