  • Pachinko Player Vows ‘I’m Done for Good’ — Comes Back 3 Days Later; 5ch Reacts: ‘The Real Addicts Return the Next Day’

A thread on 5channel’s News Speed+ board asked just how long a vow of “I’ll never play pachinko again” actually lasts. It started with a post reading, “This is honestly pathetic — I’ve finally realized it’s just a waste of money,” which set off a wave of replies describing the mechanics of addiction: “Willpower alone won’t cut it,” “You keep going because you can’t forget that one big win.” The liveliest exchange came from a former pachinko parlor employee who recalled a regular customer who declared he was quitting — only to be back at the parlor like normal three days later. That drew a reply that stuck out: “Three days is nothing — the real addicts go back the very next day.”

This might sound out of nowhere, but gambling addiction is pathetic. People lose miserably, fly off the handle blaming the house for it, and then, before the words are even out of their mouths, they’re back at the tables again. That’s just how most of them are.

You’re the one placing the bet of your own free will, yet when you lose, you blame someone other than yourself. That’s genuinely pathetic.

The other day, a thread went up on 5channel titled “I’ll never play pachinko again.” The thread’s creator wrote, “This is honestly pathetic… I’ve finally realized it’s just a waste of money.”

I got hooked on pachinko when I was young, but I quit after a long losing streak and after the AC in the parlors wrecked my health from sitting in it too long. It's been a quarter century now, and I don't get pulled in anymore even walking past a pachinko parlor.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Under Japanese law, pachinko isn’t classified as gambling but as “play” (遊技), and it operates legally through the so-called three-shop system: players exchange their balls for prizes, which they then sell for cash at a separate prize-exchange counter. The pattern described in the thread — players swearing they’re done, only to be back within days — is a well-documented pattern in gambling-addiction research, driven by the urge to chase losses and by the way rare big wins distort judgment. Commenters also shared anecdotes about wealthy people mixing in among 1-yen pachinko players, but no statistics were cited on the industry’s actual customer base or financial performance — this remains a thread of personal anecdotes and opinions, so it should be read with that caveat in mind.

  • New Kochikame Anime’s Ryotsu Voice Recast Draws ‘Doesn’t Fit’ Backlash — 5ch: ‘Does It Really Not Fit, Though?’

The voice actor playing Ryotsu Kankichi in the new Kochikame anime has been recast, and on a 5ch live-thread, a post asking “Does it really not fit, though?” touched off a wave of both criticism and support. Lasalle Ishii had voiced Ryotsu for a long stretch since the series began airing in 1996, and the thread’s discussion expanded beyond just the new actor’s performance to touch on the Doraemon voice cast change (nicknamed “Wasa-Dora”) and Subaru Kimura’s performance as Gian — the kind of “familiarity vs. skill” debate that’s common with long-running anime.

But Kobuhei (the old Katsuo VA) was a walking case of 'this feels wrong' from start to finish

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Ryotsu Kankichi in Kochikame has been voiced by comedian Lasalle Ishii for a long stretch since the anime began airing in 1996, and it’s the recasting of that role that sparked this discussion. The “Wasa-Dora” reference that comes up repeatedly in the thread refers to Doraemon’s 2005 voice cast change — often cited as a precedent that drew fierce backlash at first but became accepted over the years. Much of the reaction here, too, centers less on the actual quality of the new performance and more on discomfort with a voice that differs from one people grew attached to over many years — a pattern common to this kind of recasting. That said, the thread never clearly established the new voice actor’s name or background, so definitive judgments may still be premature.

  • AI Could Wipe Out Humanity with ‘10%+’ Chance, Researcher Warns — 5ch: ‘Bet an AI Crunched That Number Too’

A senior researcher who leads AI safety work at Anthropic has reportedly said there’s more than a “10% chance” AI wipes out humanity within the next decade, according to US media. This comes against the backdrop of another Anthropic researcher resigning, citing the company’s “inadequate response.” On 5ch, users questioned the basis for this figure and the accuracy of the article’s translation, while also debating concrete doomsday-or-survival scenarios involving nuclear weapons, universal basic income, and more.

Anthropic Exec Warns There’s a “10%+ Chance” AI Wipes Out Humanity Within the Next Decade

A senior researcher who leads alignment work at Anthropic said on September 8 (US time) that many people at the company believe AI could destroy humanity.

After another researcher quit, criticizing the company for not acting responsibly, this senior researcher warned that despite Anthropic’s efforts, the company isn’t necessarily making steady progress toward solving the alignment problem — getting AI’s goals to match humanity’s.

A society that doesn't rely on AI

'The senior researcher said on September 8 (US time) that many people at the company believe AI could destroy humanity.'

The words 'at the company' are easy to skip over,
    and if you skip them
it reads as 'many people believe…'
making you wonder what survey they're even talking about — then you look closer and see 'at the company.'

But if it really meant Anthropic's own staff,
you wouldn't normally write 'people' —
    you'd say 'employees' or similar.

    It's a translation that's easy to misread.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

This report is Forbes Japan’s translation of a US-originated article, and posters in the thread pointed out that the original piece was actually written by a reporter based in India (comment 31). On 5ch, some also flagged a translation nuance around the phrase “many people at the company,” arguing it referred to opinion inside Anthropic itself rather than the general public (comment 33). Just before this warning, another researcher at the company had resigned, citing an “inadequate response,” and the remarks can be read as fallout from that departure (comment 38). The thread mixed skepticism about the basis for the probability figure itself with serious discussion of concrete doomsday scenarios — like a hijack of nuclear weapons controls or a two-tiered economic collapse — blending doubt with genuine concern.

On 5channel, opinions split across several points: criticism of manager Hajime Moriyasu staying on and of the Japan Football Association’s leadership, the structural problem of Japan producing plenty of players who thrive at overseas clubs but no standout strikers, and whether the growing number of foreign-born and mixed-heritage players will actually make the team stronger.

Shoji Jo — The Harsh Words Foreign Reporters Threw at Him After the World Cup: “Japan Won’t Get Any Stronger Than This”

Former Japan national team player Shoji Jo (51) posted an update on his YouTube channel “JO Channel.” After Japan finished in the round of 32 at the World Cup in North and Central America, he revealed the harsh words foreign reporters threw at him.

Talking about the reaction to and outlook for the Japan national team after the World Cup, Jo said reporters from Spain and France told him, “Japan is too soft. It’s not a soccer nation.”

Moriyasu talked about winning the whole thing, and Japan crashed out in the round of 32.
No accountability at all — he's all over variety TV shows and still hasn't resigned.
It's a fact that people are laughing at the Japan Football Association as an absurd, unbelievable organization.
If someone like Moriyasu keeps holding influence within the association, of course you're going to see Japan's national team stop growing.

In four or eight years, Japan will 'Frenchify' further, and mixed-heritage players like Zion Suzuki will become more common

Soccer's taken root in Japan, and I've come to enjoy watching it,
so as long as I can genuinely enjoy the sport, that's enough for me.
And if we just keep quietly enjoying it like that, things will get refined over time and someday we'll actually win it.

    Re: #56
I also think that if Japan keeps this current self-sacrificing, team-first style and more players become starters in the big five leagues, we could get to the point of being a regular quarterfinalist.

From there, depending on the roster and matchups, there might even be tournaments where a title is within reach.

Japan isn't suited to star-dependent soccer like the Nakata or Honda era.
A star player is great when he's on the rise, but once he declines, everyone around him starts tiptoeing around him.
That's basically what happened with Cristiano Ronaldo this tournament.
    59AnonymousSep 10, 2026 02:52

In the end, nothing's going to change unless Tashima's shadow rule over the association ends

Background and Key Points of This Debate

It’s true that Japan’s best-ever World Cup result has stayed at the round of 16 since first reaching it as Asia’s first team to do so in 2002, and that Japan was again eliminated in the round of 32 at the 2026 tournament. That said, 2026 was the first tournament with the field expanded from 32 to 48 teams, and the exit came via the newly created “Round of 32” stage — a structural difference that makes a simple comparison to the round-of-16 finishes of past tournaments tricky. Where the thread split was between those pinning the cause on the manager and the football association’s leadership, and those blaming individual players’ ability or playing style. There were also references to “Tashima’s shadow rule,” but it’s worth noting that the Japan Football Association’s presidency changed to Tsuneyasu Miyamoto in 2024, so that’s different from the current setup.

  • Juice=Juice’s remaining unaccomplished tasks down to just 4 — 5ch: “Size is justice”

A thread titled “The only tasks Juice=Juice haven’t accomplished are the Kohaku Uta Gassen, a million-seller, a venue bigger than K Arena, and their own terrestrial TV show” appeared on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. While many agreed that hitting a million in CD sales is now unrealistic, discussion shifted to venue prestige, with K Arena Yokohama introduced as “the top tier” — sparking a debate over the pecking order against Yokohama Arena and Budokan, venues Hello! Project has traditionally used to confer status. Then someone posted an image arguing the group has already landed its own terrestrial TV show via TVer, undercutting the very premise of the discussion.

    TV commercials matter a lot
And not just spot ads — a year-long contract with a major sponsor
At that level, the sponsor will even put its name on live shows
which would push even an agency reluctant about large-scale concerts to finally get moving

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Juice=Juice is an idol group under the Hello! Project umbrella. CD sales reaching “million-seller” status is no longer realistic in this era, with streaming and subscription playback counts now more commonly cited as the relevant metric — and comments like “million sellers just don’t happen anymore these days” stood out in the thread. On venue prestige, K Arena Yokohama, a new roughly 20,000-capacity venue, was presented as ranking above Yokohama Arena (about 17,000 capacity) and Nippon Budokan (about 14,000 capacity), both of which Hello! Project has traditionally used to confer status — making “size is justice” one of the thread’s central viewpoints. Meanwhile, one post included an image of a TVer show as evidence the group has already landed its own terrestrial TV program, creating a disconnect over whether one of the four listed conditions has in fact already been met. On the question of a Kohaku Uta Gassen appearance, some were optimistic, pointing to junior group M!LK’s appearance on Kohaku with a comparable audience draw and saying “it’s doable,” while others noted that expectations have risen to the point where NHK would look like it “failed to read the room” if the group isn’t selected. One point readers may easily misread is that these “tasks” aren’t official goals set by Hello! Project itself, but benchmarks that 5ch users devised on their own.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hello! Project) thread “Juice=Juice’s only unaccomplished tasks are down to “Kohaku Uta Gassen,” “million-seller,” “a venue bigger than K Arena,” and “own terrestrial TV show” wwwwwwww.”

  • Naked Man Spotted in Ageo Park — 5ch: “Naked But Wearing a Bike Helmet, Now That’s a New One”

Around 5 p.m. on September 8, 2026, a chubby-looking man estimated to be in his 30s to 50s was reportedly seen completely naked in a public restroom at a park in Kasuga, Ageo City, Saitama Prefecture, prompting the Saitama Prefectural Police to appeal for information. The man was said to be about 180cm tall, wearing a mask and a bicycle helmet, and had arrived by bicycle. On 5ch, the first thing that caught people’s attention was the awkward combination of the stock phrase “occurred” — typical wording in these police safety bulletins — with the word “naked,” which set off a wave of jokes about the suspect’s build and gear.

According to the Saitama Prefectural Police, at around 5:00 p.m. on September 8, an incident of nakedness “occurred” in a park in Kasuga 1-chome, Ageo City. (Description of the individual: male, 30–50 years old, completely naked, approx. 180cm tall, chubby build, wearing a mask, wearing a bicycle helmet, on a bicycle)

    ■ Circumstances: He was seen naked in the restroom.

    ■ Nearby facilities: Kita-Ageo Station (JR), Ageo Station (JR), Ageo Municipal Fujimi Elementary School, Ageo Municipal Chuo Elementary School, Saitama Prefectural Ageo High School

Naked but rocking a bike helmet, that's a new one lol

    Background and Key Points

Police safety bulletins are often written in stock phrasing like “a suspicious person has occurred,” applying the word “occur” — normally used for events or phenomena — to human behavior, which gives the reports a distinctly stiff, bureaucratic feel. This time, that stiffness collided with the word “naked,” and it was the odd phrasing itself, more than the actual content, that got people laughing first. Meanwhile, similar cases of indecent exposure have been reported sporadically across the Kanto region, and some in the thread speculated it could be the same perpetrator — but that’s purely conjecture among residents online, and there’s no confirmation that the Saitama Prefectural Police have linked this Ageo case to incidents elsewhere. It’s also worth noting that, at this stage, the suspect has only been reported as sighted and has not been arrested or identified.

  • Director Taisei: Juice=Juice’s Breakout Success Was ‘Just Luck’ — 5ch Calls Him ‘Refreshingly Down-to-Earth’

Taisei, the director behind Juice=Juice’s music production at Hello! Project, sparked discussion on 5ch’s Hello! Project board after saying of the group’s rise: “I honestly think grabbing this chance was just a coincidence, but I’m glad it’s shone a spotlight on everything Hello! Project has built up over the years.” Some took it as modesty, while others questioned whether it was really luck at all, pointing to the strategy behind the group’s TV appearances and song selection. The thread split over whether Taisei is simply level-headed — or quietly calculating.

apparently Taisei has been overseeing Juice=Juice's music ever since their 1st album 'First Squeeze!'

Background and Key Points of the Debate

According to the Nikkei Entertainment article quoted in the thread, Taisei is said to have continuously overseen Juice=Juice’s music since their 1st album, “First Squeeze!,” released in 2019. His comment can be read as modesty given that position, but on 5ch some pointed out that “he likely doesn’t have authority over song selection — probably just vocal coaching,” while others were skeptical of calling it a “coincidence” at all, given that TV appearances are themselves a form of promotion. A common point of confusion is that the title “director” doesn’t automatically mean control over the group’s overall direction, and the thread itself showed differing views on just how far his authority actually extends.

*This article is compiled as an excerpt/summary from the 5ch (Hello! Project) thread “Taisei: ‘I honestly think Juice=Juice grabbing this chance was just a coincidence, but I’m glad it’s put a spotlight on everything Hello! Project has built up, thanks to Juice=Juice’.”

  • Foreign Women Thrust Flags at Restaurant Staff Demanding ‘Donations’ Across Japan — 5ch: ‘Is This Petty Scam Trend Going Around?’

Reports are piling up across Japan of unfamiliar foreign women holding out a national flag and refusing to leave restaurants until they get a “donation.” According to a TV Asahi news report, the flags being offered are cheaply made — so thin you can see through the back of them — and in some cases the women communicated by gestures, claiming they “can’t hear and can’t speak.” Since the same method is showing up in multiple locations, some suspect this isn’t just isolated bad behavior but an organized petty-swindling operation. On 5ch, users speculated about why a flag specifically is being used, with many recommending reporting incidents to the police or immigration authorities.

Across the country, incidents are piling up in which unfamiliar foreign women hold out a Japanese flag and demand money under the guise of a “donation.” What exactly is the purpose behind this?

    Re: #159
Didn't know that was a thing too
    Which station?

Background and Key Points of This Story

This incident has been covered by multiple commercial broadcasters, and what stands out is that the same tactic has been confirmed in locations across the country. Many thread posts linked the method — handing someone a flag “without damaging it” while demanding money — to Japan’s legal restrictions on flag desecration, but that’s speculation from posters, not a motive officially stated by the news reports. Similar tactics have been reported before, such as soliciting donations near train stations by showing photos of children, or demanding money through unauthorized street performances, and some see this case as a variant of those. As for how to respond, many suggested showing clear intent to call the police on the spot or consulting immigration authorities, with support for the view that taking a firm stance against suspicious individuals is effective. It’s also worth noting that the reports don’t name any specific nationality or organization, and assumptions about nationality made in some thread posts remain unverified.

  • Asakura Mikuru Offered Kimura Takuya a YouTube Collab—Got Ghosted, Say 5ch Users: ‘Different League Entirely’

An old episode has resurfaced and gone viral on X: back in a March 2024 video, fighter-turned-YouTuber Asakura Mikuru revealed that he had once offered Kimura Takuya a YouTube collaboration—only for it to go nowhere. The story blew up again around Asakura’s September 10, 2026 comeback fight at ‘Super RIZIN.5.’ Asakura, a pioneer among fighter-YouTubers with 3.54 million channel subscribers, apparently never managed to connect with the actor. Reactions on 5ch ranged from ‘stop whining about being turned down’ to broader debate over the gap in status between a YouTuber and a movie/TV star.

“Got Casually Ignored”—Asakura Mikuru’s “Humiliating” Past Attempt to Collab with Kimura Takuya… Some Scoff: “There’s Nothing In It for Kimura”

MMA fighter Asakura Mikuru steps into his first comeback fight in nine months—since New Year’s Eve 2025—at ‘Super RIZIN.5’ on September 10. Now, an old story about him once pitching a YouTube collaboration to actor Kimura Takuya has spread on X, drawing renewed attention.

“Asakura, who boasts 3.54 million channel subscribers and is a pioneer among fighter-YouTubers, posted a YouTube video back in March 2024 showing an izakaya chat with fighters from BreakingDown, the MMA event he runs as CEO. When the topic turned to celebrities they’d like to meet, he suddenly revealed, ‘You know, I actually offered Kimura Takuya a collab,’ disclosing that he had reached out to the actor.”

If it had been Inoue Naoya (the world champion boxer), I bet Kimura would've responded politely. Just not for Asakura Mikuru, lol.

Background and Key Points of Debate

The source of this whole story is entirely Asakura Mikuru’s own remarks in a video he posted back in March 2024—there has been no comment or reaction of any kind from Kimura Takuya’s side. In other words, the claim that he was ‘ignored’ comes solely from Asakura’s own telling, and how Kimura actually took it remains unknown. The two-year-old episode seems to have resurfaced now simply because it coincided with the attention Asakura was drawing ahead of his comeback fight at ‘Super RIZIN.5’ on September 10, nine months after his last bout. Where opinions in the thread split was over how to compare ‘fame’ across two very different yardsticks—YouTuber versus actor: some pointed out that by subscriber count alone, Asakura comes out ahead, while others countered that it’s simply a different arena from the career Kimura has built in television and film.

*This article is composed as an excerpt/summary of the 5ch (Geisports Sokuho+) thread ““Got Casually Ignored”—Asakura Mikuru’s Humiliating Past Attempt to Collab with Kimura Takuya… Some Scoff: “There’s Nothing In It for Kimura”.”

  • Emoto Takenori: “Teams with Losing Records Shouldn’t Make the Playoffs” — 5ch Divided Over His Baseball Reform Proposals

Pro baseball commentator Takenori Emoto has put forward proposals to Nippon Professional Baseball on Climax Series (CS) playoff eligibility, the merits of the OPS stat, and the number of schools allowed into the Koshien tournament — and 5ch had plenty to say about it. His three claims — “teams with losing records shouldn’t make the CS,” “OPS is unnecessary, batting average/RBIs/home runs are enough,” and “cut the number of Koshien schools” — each split opinion down the middle, with some users calling for scrapping the CS altogether and others arguing Koshien should actually expand. The result was a single article that touched off several arguments running in parallel.

I was thinking Emo-yan (Emoto's nickname) has turned into an old fogey, but then again he's been saying stuff like this since he was young — going on about how the dugout's full of idiots and whatnot.

People don't just change because they get older. They only change if they turn conservative to protect their position, or if dementia sets in.

Then go to a batting cage.

Apparently if you go every day, you end up with 70-something grannies smashing back 160 km/h pitches.

Just like Miyamoto (former player turned commentator), seriously, what's going on in the heads of people saying "expand the bench roster"? Teams can't even scrape together 9 players and you want to expand the bench… Shimizu of the Giants said the same thing, but at least he later corrected himself, admitting it would just give the powerhouse teams an even bigger edge.

He probably thinks schools that can't even field 9 players should just fold. He's the type who won't feel any sense of crisis until numbers shrink down to rugby-team levels.
    23AnonymousSep 10, 2026 00:51
They should just bring back the old first-half/second-half split season. NPB never reforms nearly enough — all they do is copy America bit by bit under the excuse of "internationalization."
    24AnonymousSep 10, 2026 00:53
Koshien should be cut to either 32 or 64 schools.
    25AnonymousSep 10, 2026 00:54
The Central League is adopting the DH now too, so things are different from back when Central and Pacific split into two leagues.

They should scrap interleague play, since it's almost always Pacific League teams that come out on top, and maybe bring back the single-league system that hasn't existed since 1949.

You got any way to pay off that debt (losing record)? Just declare bankruptcy.
    28AnonymousSep 10, 2026 00:59
Bottom line: what baseball needs is to expand to 16 teams. Then combine with Korea's 10 and Taiwan's 6 to build a 32-team league. MLB's heading to 32 teams too, so match it. And compete.

    >"The teams that made it to the final 8 were properly trained, none of them were soft. If only schools like that got picked to represent their region, we wouldn't even be having this dumb debate about switching to 7 innings for heat countermeasures."

    So true, right?
If you let it all concentrate into a handful of powerhouses, baseball would be finished in an instant — it'd become no different from any other sport.
The baseball world fundamentally has no sense of crisis.

Japan's probably the only place still worshipping a meaningless stat like batting average. On-base percentage matters more.

    Makes no sense.
Does data showing up somehow stop you from watching insanely fast pitches and hitters smashing them back?

Add 4 more teams and reorganize into 4 divisions — 2 leagues, East and West, 4 teams each. 1st place gets an automatic CS berth, and the top 4 teams by winning percentage among the rest fill the remaining spots — 8 teams fighting it out in the CS. That's the kind of reform I'd want to see.

[Summer Koshien champions over the past 10 years]

    Kinki: 5 times
    Kanto: 2 times
    Okinawa: 1 time
    Tohoku: 1 time
Cancelled due to COVID: 1 time

The winners are pretty much always the same regions. Tokai, Kyushu, and Shikoku, once powerhouses, have declined.

Is this a dig at Nomura (Katsuya Nomura, the data-driven former manager)?
I wonder what Nomura actually thought about OPS.
Wasn't it not really mainstream in Japan while he was still alive?

If it's just for the show, why not hold a knockout-style Emperor's Cup (soccer-style tournament) before the Japan Series? With interleague play, the Emperor's Cup, and the Japan Series, you'd get a nice balanced "domestic treble," just like in soccer.

Won't happen — the individual clubs hold more power than NPB itself.
    48AnonymousSep 10, 2026 01:26
    Stuff like:
    – slugging percentage shouldn't factor into on-base percentage
    – reaching on a dropped third strike shouldn't count toward on-base percentage
    – if the pitcher's just wild and the batters before and after also draw walks/HBPs, that batter's on-base percentage should be voided

…a stat like that would actually mean something. But OPS is just simple addition, so it can go past 100%. A "rate" stat that can exceed 100% doesn't mean anything. An OPS of 1.00 would mean being on base or hitting a homer 100% of the time, lol. Nobody in the history of any category anywhere has ever done that.
    50AnonymousSep 10, 2026 01:30
    Re: #48
OPS just happens to work well as a stat when you simply add the two together. That's exactly why calling it a "percentage" doesn't fit.
    61AnonymousSep 10, 2026 01:40
    Re: #48
It's OBP + SLG, so hitting a home run once every 2 at-bats also gives you an OPS of 1.00.
    72AnonymousSep 10, 2026 02:13
    Re: #48
By that math OPS comes out to 2.50. Since you're adding two separate metrics — OBP and SLG — the resulting number has nothing to do with percentages anymore. A number like 2.50 doesn't mean 250%.
    77AnonymousSep 10, 2026 02:24
    Re: #72
Then it's even more of a meaningless, flawed stat. "0.90 is great, 1.00 is even greater, bigger number = greater" isn't a "stat" at all. What's the actual difference in skill between a 0.90 guy and a 0.95 guy? Between 0.95 and 1.00? The numerical gap is the same 0.05 either way, but what's the real difference? Nobody can say, nobody knows.
    81AnonymousSep 10, 2026 02:33
    Re: #77
"Bigger number = greater" is clearly what a "stat" is, lol.

    80AnonymousSep 10, 2026 02:31
I think it'd make more sense to base the advantage on games back rather than on a losing record — like, a 10-game lead gets you a 2-win handicap, a 1-game lead gets nothing.
    82AnonymousSep 10, 2026 02:35
    Re: #80
    Why specifically 10 games?

Background and Key Points of This Debate

The Climax Series (CS) is NPB’s postseason format, introduced in 2007, and the fact that a 3rd-place team with a losing record — a so-called “debt team” — can still qualify has long been a point of contention. OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging percentage) is a sabermetrics-style stat that has spread in recent years, and skepticism like Emoto’s remains deep-rooted in Japanese baseball, which has traditionally emphasized batting average, RBIs, and home runs. In the thread, criticism that “a stat is broken if simple addition can push it past 100%” was met with counterarguments that “it’s a number meant to be read via distribution, not as a percentage,” revealing some disagreement over how OPS is even calculated in the first place. On the question of how many schools should compete at Koshien, opinions split between those wanting to expand the field and those wanting to shrink it, given that some teams already struggle to field enough players amid Japan’s declining birthrate — making it a debate that didn’t reduce to a simple for-or-against split.
