  • Men’s Basketball: South Korea Wins Gold for First Time in 3 Asian Games, Japan Falls to Silver — 5ch: “They’re Serious Because Military Exemption Is on the Line”

On September 20, in the Asian Games men’s basketball final at Aichi International Arena, world No. 57 South Korea defeated world No. 22 Japan 67-57 to claim its fifth gold medal and first in 12 years. Japan had reached the final for the first time in 64 years but couldn’t hold its lead and suffered a come-from-ahead loss. South Korea’s ace, Lee Hyun-jung, has signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers for next season, and this gold medal makes him eligible for exemption from South Korea’s mandatory military service. On 5ch, the main point of debate was a “difference in seriousness”: South Korea, with exemptions on the line, fielded a near-full-strength roster using its overage player slots, while Japan — in a sport where it has other major tournaments like the Asian Cup — prioritized developing younger players and didn’t field its best lineup.

“Asian Games Men’s Basketball Final: Japan National Team 57–67 South Korea National Team” (September 20, Aichi International Arena)

World No. 57 South Korea, fielding a youth-driven squad, defeated world No. 22 Japan — which had reached the final for the first time in 64 years — to win its fifth gold medal and first in 12 years. Ace Lee Hyun-jung and others, who signed an “Exhibit 10” contract with the NBA’s Trail Blazers for next season, secured a military service exemption with this gold.

In the 1st quarter, South Korea took the lead behind three-pointers from Lee Hyun-jung and others. Japan fought back with three-pointers from Kanechika and others, forcing turnovers with tenacious defense to catch up and take the lead. The quarter ended 12–16 in South Korea’s favor. The 2nd quarter stayed tight throughout, with neither team giving ground, ending the first half tied 28–28.

Japan wasn't fielding its best lineup, but what about Korea?
They had a guy with an NBA Exhibit 10 deal, so were they going full-strength?

Japan did put together a somewhat more serious squad than usual for basketball, but it's still U-21 with no overage players, same as ever. Facing a Korea packed with U-23 overseas pros plus overage players going all out, Japan's win rate is probably 30% at best.
Scoring 7 against Kyrgyzstan doesn't mean anything.

I thought the same thing 10 years ago.
But the reality is mixed-heritage players (ハーフ, "haafu") only dominate through their teens — once they hit their twenties, even "pure" Japanese players start overtaking them.

Pick a best-five lineup and Hachimura is the only mixed-heritage player who makes it. That's been the story for the last 10 years.
The rest is one naturalized foreign-born center and three "pure" Japanese players.

    Re: #163
No idea why they put Wada and Sato in that lineup.

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

Under South Korea’s military service law, athletes who win an Olympic medal or an Asian Games gold medal can qualify for exemption from mandatory military service as “culture and sports personnel.” Lee Hyun-jung, who won gold this time, has signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers for next season, so the exemption is a big deal — it lets him keep pursuing the NBA without worrying about his age. Where opinions split on the thread was over the difference in how seriously each country treated the Asian Games. South Korea fielded what was effectively its best lineup, even using overage player slots, while Japan treats the Asian Games as a development ground for younger players in sports where it has higher-status tournaments like the Asian Cup — and again didn’t field its best team this time. This “asymmetry in seriousness” got talked about even more than the final score. One easily misunderstood point: even within South Korea, skepticism toward athletic military exemptions runs deep — a 2023 survey found 44.5% called them “inappropriate.” There was also the incident where a Korean reporter’s comments mocking Son Heung-min’s exemption sparked backlash, showing the exemption system doesn’t have unanimous support even within Korean society.

An anti-fan thread for “Detective Precure!” on 5ch’s anime board saw a wave of complaints about the movie’s plot. Many were upset that the story pins all the blame on Gouemon just to shield heroine Ruruka, asking “how much longer are they going to coddle Ruruka?” Others piled on about the multiple crossovers with Street Fighter 6 and Detective Conan, calling it “too many crossovers” and saying the show has “dropped all pretense and is just doing whatever it wants.” Posters were also split on whether to start the thread early as a defense against trolls.

Instead of having Shiruku say something like "I didn't think Ruruka would actually steal it," they should've had her say she sensed something was off — that Ruruka didn't seem to be acting of her own will, like there was some circumstance behind it.
Because plot-wise, Ruruka's side did intend to steal it, since they needed another jewel to replace Eclair's Makoto Jewel (and even more so if Ruruka's stated motive — doing it for the world and for Curea — is meant to be genuine).

Some things that bugged me about the movie spoilers — I put the finer details in the refuge thread.
Maybe because it's a story about coaxing a shut-in kid outside, the whole thing felt dark in tone, and the ending theme was too gloomy to match. It's supposed to be a Tan Precure-centered movie, but Kimi Precure and Wan Precure (other character team groupings) had way stronger team chemistry despite getting less screen time. Even the all-together finishing pose felt cluttered and unfocused for the Tan Precure squad. The Future Form's purification attack is basically just "Detective" again, and it's suspicious the Garlic Rod is still in play. Disappointed the Answer Hanamaru Sword got left out — guess it's just not popular.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

“Detective Precure!” is the latest entry in the Precure franchise, and its movie features an even heavier-than-usual lineup of crossovers, including Street Fighter 6 and Detective Conan. Two complaints stood out in this thread: frustration with a script that concentrates all the blame on Gouemon to absolve heroine Ruruka, and fatigue over multiple crossovers running at once. Though separate issues, both feed into a shared complaint that “the production’s own convenience is being prioritized” over the story. Anti-fan threads are a long-standing 5ch custom, serving as a space to follow a series while trading critical opinions, and posters in this thread were themselves split over whether to start threads early. Note that posts based on unconfirmed rumors about individual voice actors or the director have been excluded from this article, since they could not be verified.

  • ANGERME’s Suzuran Ise Pleads With Fans to Show Up as Osaka Show Ticket Sales Stall

Suzuran Ise, who serves as leader of the Hello! Project idol group ANGERME, called on fans to attend the remaining two Osaka shows in a post on her own blog, writing that she’d “be happy if a few more different people came” and that she “just really wants people to come, no matter what.” The plea hints that ticket sales have been sluggish, and opinion split on 5ch’s Hello! Project board over how she framed the request. Some criticized it as counterproductive to just tell fans to come without giving them any reason to be excited, while others defended her by pointing to blog posts from other members showing similar resolve. The discussion also broadened into a structural critique about a mismatch between venue capacity and the group’s actual drawing power.

For the remaining 2 dates in Osaka,

I’d be happy if a few more different people could come…

    LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

In the idol world, a mismatch between venue capacity and actual drawing power is a common structural problem, and the thread itself had comments like “it’s not that the ANGERME members are bad, the capacity just doesn’t match up.” What sparked debate this time was the substance of Ise’s appeal — the fact that she kept repeating “just please come” without giving any concrete highlight or reason, which drew comparisons to blog posts from other members who had expressed their resolve around past shows, and opinion split. One thing readers can easily misread is treating this as purely a matter of Ise’s personal character, when it’s really also a snapshot of a broader issue that’s been raised across Hello! Project as a whole — dependence on a fixed base of repeat fans (so-called “omaitsu”) and stalled growth among new fans. Some posters in the thread brought up similar appeals from other members in the past, suggesting this isn’t a phenomenon unique to this one case.

  • Hideo Kojima: “Today’s SONY Isn’t the SONY of the Kutaragi and Hirai Days”

Game creator Hideo Kojima described the circumstances under which Sony informed him it was cancelling “PHYSINT,” the new title being developed by Kojima Productions, saying “Today’s SONY isn’t the SONY of the days when Kutaragi-san and Hirai-san were there.” The interview blew up on 5ch after he revealed that Sony gave no explanation whatsoever for the cancellation. The thread’s discussion spread beyond that to the shifting nature of the long-standing partnership, and to how the developers behind Stellar Blade and Helldivers 2 have also been moving to distance themselves from Sony.

Even 'gratitude' doesn't work on the Totoki Cutter (a nickname for Sony Group President Hiroki Totoki, likened to scissors for his reputation of cutting costs and projects)

    Background and Points of Contention

Kojima Productions, led by Hideo Kojima, has a capital and business partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) and has developed titles such as the “Death Stranding” series for PlayStation. “PHYSINT” was a new title the studio had announced, and these remarks appear to come from an interview about its cancellation. Ken Kutaragi (the father of the original PlayStation) and Kazuo Hirai (Sony’s president during the PS4 era) were past leaders known for generously supporting development studios, and Kojima’s comment reads as a contrast with that era. The thread was split over whether to view this as “a shift in Sony’s overall policy” or “a decision specific to one project,” with some pointing to the moves by the developers of Stellar Blade and Helldivers 2 as related — though it should be noted that no official connection has been confirmed, and these remain speculation.

  • Hiroyuki Ariyoshi Raves About Baseball Manga ‘Draft King’ — 5ch Erupts Into Its Usual ‘Best Baseball Manga’ Debate

Hiroyuki Ariyoshi raved about the manga “Draft King” as “insanely interesting” on his radio show broadcast September 20, saying “if you like baseball, you should absolutely read it” — and the comment became a talking point on 5ch. Rather than debating the recommendation itself, the thread quickly spiraled into the site’s perennial argument over “what’s the best baseball manga,” with users bringing up classics like “Captain,” “Play Ball,” “Dokaben,” and “Abu-san,” all the way to “4-ban Third,” a one-shot drawn by Detective Conan creator Gosho Aoyama. Some doubted Ariyoshi’s “influence,” while others who actually read the free chapters said it was “the first time I’ve ever agreed with Ariyoshi” — reactions were split.

    Sun, Sep 20, 9:31 PM

Comedian and TV personality Hiroyuki Ariyoshi (52) appeared live on JFN’s “Hiroyuki Ariyoshi’s SUNDAY NIGHT DREAMER” (Sundays 8:00 PM) on the 20th, where he talked about a manga he called “insanely interesting.”

When the popular manga “Draft King” came up, Ariyoshi spoke passionately: “It’s insanely interesting. If you like baseball, you should absolutely read it. You’ll find yourself desperately waiting for the release date.”

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

It’s not unusual for Hiroyuki Ariyoshi’s celebrity endorsements to get picked up by the media, and on 5ch this kind of “celebrity raves about it” article tends to draw skeptical reactions before people even engage with the content — questions like “does this actually work” or “isn’t this just a paid promo.” True to form, this thread saw comments like “he’s got no influencer effect,” while others who actually read the free chapters posted favorable impressions, so reactions were mixed. The other recurring thread was that the conversation drifted away from evaluating “Draft King” itself and into the site’s standard “what’s the best baseball manga” comparison. Users cited everything from Showa- and Heisei-era staples like “Captain,” “Play Ball,” “Dokaben,” and “Abu-san,” to the recently popular “Haikyuu!!,” to Gosho Aoyama’s one-shot “4-ban Third” — a wide-ranging exchange that shows just how deep the baseball manga genre runs.

  • Secondary Capital: Government Weighing Multiple Cities, Minister Fujii Says ‘It’s Not All About Osaka’

Internal Affairs Minister Hisayuki Fujii said on an NHK program on September 20 that when it comes to designating a “secondary capital” to back up the capital’s functions, “we’re considering multiple cities,” pushing back on criticism from opposition parties and others that it’s “all about Osaka.” The secondary capital initiative is being studied from a disaster-prevention and crisis-management angle, with the government planning to set the designation criteria by cabinet order in late October 2026 and actual designation expected from autumn 2027 onward. On 5channel threads, the discussion heated up around frontrunner Osaka alongside cooperation proposals involving Fukuoka, Nagoya, and Hokkaido, mixed with historical arguments calling Kyoto the “true capital” and plenty of regional trash-talk.

    Re: #79
Apparently "within one year" for the basic policy means this:

The deadline is a "maximum of one year," not "you get a year to do nothing."

    ❌ Misreading
"Nothing has to happen for a year"
"It's fine to make it a year from now"
"It can be shelved for a year"

    ✔ Correct meaning
Once enacted, the government "must begin work immediately and complete it within one year at the latest."

    In other words:
    – Enactment = obligation kicks in
    – Within one year = the upper limit of the deadline
    – Work starts right away
    That's the structure, apparently.

Aichi/Nagoya turned down Osaka Governor Yoshimura's request to team up (and is instead trying to strengthen ties with Tokyo's Governor Koike), leaving it isolated with no alliance with any other candidate city.

For something like this, you're better off pairing with another candidate city than going solo —

Background and Key Points of This Topic

The secondary capital initiative is a system for designating, in advance, a city that could take over part of the government’s functions if a major disaster ever knocked out the capital. The designation criteria are set to be decided by cabinet order in late October 2026, promulgated that November, with actual designation expected from autumn 2027 onward. In the thread, Osaka is widely seen as the frontrunner, though some argue the “it’s all about Osaka” impression stems from the LDP-Ishin relationship, with Fukuoka, Nagoya, and Hokkaido’s own ambitions further splitting opinion. One thing readers can easily get wrong is that the secondary capital isn’t a plan to relocate the capital’s functions wholesale — it also covers proposals to disperse just certain functions, similar to the Agency for Cultural Affairs’ move to Kyoto, a point that comes up in the thread’s replies as well. The historical claims that Kyoto is the “true capital,” backed by counts of imperial mausoleums, are less about policy and more a clash of regional pride.

  • The “Middle-Aged AI Newbie” Insult Is Going Viral Online

An article on note.com introduced the term “middle-aged AI newbie” — a jab at older folks who’ve become obsessed with generative AI — sparking a wave of reactions on 5ch’s gaming hardware (Gehan) board. While some posters argued a “generational reversal” seems to be underway, with middle-aged people adapting to new technology faster than the young, the thread also veered into examples of AI confidently spouting wrong information (“hallucination”) and the ongoing copyright debate over generative AI’s training data, leaving opinions split.

    The “middle-aged AI newbie” phenomenon

But watching this whole commotion unfold, something else caught my attention: a recurring character type in online discourse about generative AI — the “middle-aged AI newbie.”

    “AI is amazing!”

It's a weird reversal — grown adults and middle-aged folks are picking up new tech pretty smoothly,
while it's the younger generation having an allergic reaction and turning into the "out-of-touch old fogeys" instead.

    Re: #6
Middle-aged workers used to be stuck reluctantly training new hires who were basically dead weight, but now thanks to AI they don't need to deal with that garbage anymore — they're thrilled.
    17AnonymousSep 20, 2026 14:00
    Re: #6
    Nah, that's not it.
It's the usual thing where the generation gap gets exposed on social media, so old guys overdo it with the latest tech and trends because they want to look even a little younger.
Young people's values are actually all over the map — people are just being mocked for the narrow-mindedness of reducing "kids these days" to one caricature.
    15AnonymousSep 20, 2026 13:57
I sometimes ask AI for help with Tarkov [Escape from Tarkov] strategy,
but every once in a while it just says something completely wrong.

Made me wonder if AI is simply incapable of saying "I don't know."
    46AnonymousSep 20, 2026 14:34
    Re: #15
Roughly speaking, generative AI just keeps picking "the word most likely to come next as an answer" from its massive training data in response to your prompt, and strings a sentence together that way.
That's why it sometimes outputs pure nonsense (a "hallucination").

Generative AI itself has no built-in ability to judge whether its own output is actually correct, so it rarely comes out with "I don't know" or "I'm not sure."
    19AnonymousSep 20, 2026 14:00
I've noticed this lately using it —
sometimes even when I tell it to check the reference material, it just skips right over it.

When I call it out it goes back and actually looks properly, so that's fine,
but what's with that? Is AI getting lazy too or something?
    40AnonymousSep 20, 2026 14:26
    Re: #19
AI's access to outside info like the web is restricted, so a lot of the time it's answering from its pre-training data or from info other users have fed it.
If you paste a URL directly, a filtering system sitting in between downloads the page and hands it to the AI so it can actually process it.
That filtering system is the tricky part.
    20AnonymousSep 20, 2026 14:05

At this point I'd call it "entering old age," lol
    21AnonymousSep 20, 2026 14:06
If the middle-aged generation, who actually hold the real power in society, start using AI, then Gen Z — who're less capable than the AI itself — will never get a chance to rise up.
    No wonder they're panicking.
    28AnonymousSep 20, 2026 14:11
    Re: #21
Middle-aged people can just make use of AI, and kids can study assuming they'll use it down the line,
so it's the generation stuck right in between — the ones who want to be recognized by society right now — who must find AI's rise the least fun of all.
    47AnonymousSep 20, 2026 14:36
If some old guy can use it, anyone can use it.
    49AnonymousSep 20, 2026 14:39
Whether it can say "I don't know" really comes down to the prompt and the skill involved.
NotebookLM, for example, only checks against the info you actually fed it, so it'll flat-out tell you something doesn't exist if it's not there.
Bottom line, anyone who can't even distinguish between a service, an agent, and a model is out of their depth here — but online AI takes tend to be sloppy about exactly that kind of distinction.

    Re: #47
is supposed to prove the point, but…
if you're bad at it, AI won't save you.
Even on this board you've got clumsy people showing off and spamming posts — that's basically anti-AI-level bad.
    50AnonymousSep 20, 2026 14:39
If anything, I'd say it's young people who have the stronger image of being AI-obsessed.
They're the ones using AI in arguments and showing off wrong info.
    52AnonymousSep 20, 2026 14:40

Yeah, it's mostly old people after all.
The way these guys chant "it's legal, it's legal" to justify generative AI trampling on rights — their writing style is creepy on a whole other level.
They're clearly bad at Japanese too, you can't even hold a conversation with them.
    57AnonymousSep 20, 2026 14:44

What other basis besides "it's legal" would you even need to show the rights issue is actually fine?

    65AnonymousSep 20, 2026 14:50
    Re: #62
This is dumb, I'm not bothering.
As for individual cases, that's exactly the kind of thing people are already arguing back and forth about all over the internet.
And at the national and international level there are plenty of issues that have made the news too.
I'm not doing some stupid slap-fight over a question that vague and lazy.
    Go ask your precious AI.
    66AnonymousSep 20, 2026 14:50
    Re: #62
Copying someone else's data is illegal to begin with, and AI training done for enjoyment purposes or that competes commercially with the original is also illegal.
The problem is people twisting that with the sophistry that it's fine because it's "for analysis purposes."

Wake up, middle-aged man — mistaking "the law just hasn't caught up yet" for "so there's no problem" is the crazy part.
    60AnonymousSep 20, 2026 14:45
The flaw with AI hallucination is
that people believe the wrong answer is correct and it can't be corrected.
But then again, there are plenty of naturally-wrong-about-everything people who don't even use AI.
    80AnonymousSep 20, 2026 14:56
    Re: #60
And when those naturally-wrong people start using AI, don't they just turn into bots who blindly believe whatever AI spits out is correct?
    75AnonymousSep 20, 2026 14:54
People who've turned into "AI hype men" (odoroki-ya — those who gush "wow, amazing!" over every AI output) are kind of gross.
Just quietly get great results with AI and keep your mouth shut about it.
    77AnonymousSep 20, 2026 14:55

That's exactly why I hate AI threads.
    85AnonymousSep 20, 2026 15:00

The guy who comes charging in the second he spots "AI,"
    gets red-faced just bashing it,
and thinks that makes him high-level?
If you ranked all of humanity, he'd get counted from the bottom.
Sounds like he'd fail the credit check on a used Alphard residual-value loan (zan-kure — a common Japanese car financing plan), too.

Background and key points of the debate

The phrase “middle-aged AI newbie” is said to have emerged as a mocking label for people eagerly jumping on new technology, against the backdrop of the rapid spread of generative AI tools like ChatGPT. The thread split over how to read this: some saw it as middle-aged people getting ahead of the curve on new tech that young people would normally be expected to lead on, while others saw it as simply older people latching onto AI because they want to look younger. There was also back-and-forth over whether AI training data use is “legal or illegal” — Japan’s Copyright Act Article 30-4 does permit using copyrighted works for information-analysis purposes under certain conditions, so the claim that it’s “legal” does have a basis in law. At the same time, whether that sits right with rights holders, and how individual cases should be judged, remains a separate, ongoing debate both in Japan and abroad. This gap between what the law says and how people actually feel about it is one reason the thread never converged.

  • Giants Storm Back to Take Provisional First Place — Izumiguchi’s Go-Ahead Hit and Martinez’s 40th Save

The Yomiuri Giants rallied to beat the Yakult Swallows on the 20th, pushing their season win differential to a season-high-tying +14 and grabbing provisional first place. With two outs and the bases loaded in the seventh, Yuta Izumiguchi delivered the go-ahead RBI hit, and closer Martinez picked up his 40th save of the year, reaching 252 career saves — tied for third all-time in the league. Yakult, meanwhile, dropped its sixth straight game to fall to a league-worst -17, keeping alive the grim possibility of an eighth consecutive losing season. On 5ch’s live-commentary threads, fans buzzed over the late-inning comeback while also grumbling about a replay-review call and swapping chatter about other games involving the Hanshin Tigers and Orix Buffaloes, making for a lively thread.

HERE COMES A BLOOPER PLAY (chinpa, slang for a bizarre/blooper play) AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

    Background and Key Points

The Giants’ “win differential” (chokin, literally “savings”) tracks their season-long margin of wins over losses, and today’s +14 ties the team’s best mark of the season. Yakult, by contrast, sits at a league-worst -17 (“shakkin,” or “debt”), putting an eighth consecutive losing season within uncomfortably close reach. Martinez’s 40th save of the season and his 252 career saves — good for a tie for third all-time in the league — underscore his track record as a reliable closer. On the live-commentary threads, fans praised Izumiguchi for his go-ahead hit, while others questioned how the close, late-arriving replay review was handled. Worth noting: posts about pitcher Morishita’s delivery and attitude were actually reactions to a separate same-day game (the Hanshin Tigers matchup), discussed in parallel rather than being part of the Giants-Yakult thread itself.

    Knew it! Poka~
Since I take the Fukutoshin Line, I kept thinking I really should've boarded at Meiji-jingumae — and there I was, sniffling away in Shibuya! Poka~
Going home via Shibuya is basically an act of charity at this point! Poka~
The stairs were soaked, I slipped and bruised my butt,
it's just one thing after another, sniff…
    139AnonymousSep 20, 2026 22:10
When I headed toward Shibuya Station too, I ended up with my shoes flooded in a massive puddle by the gate — that's how it ended for me
On top of taking the long way around, the sidewalk toward Shibuya ended up jammed too, so I missed the limited express I wanted and had to catch a later one
Honestly, I should've just ignored the crowds and gone to the nearest station — Harajuku or Meiji-jingumae — right~
The only people who'd bother going all the way to Shibuya are hotel guests with time to kill, city folk who live within an hour who don't mind it, or country bumpkins like me who don't know Tokyo's trains, sniff
I'm never following the staff's crowd-avoidance announcements again, sniff

    Re: #116,127
I also wanted to take the Chiyoda Line yesterday, and to dodge the crowds I specifically walked one extra stop to Yoyogi-koen Station,
but almost nobody got on from Meiji-jingumae, so that was a bit of a letdown, right~……

    The lemonade was good, right~

    Background and Talking Points

At major “THE iDOLM@STER Million Live!” concerts, it’s become a tradition for the top-rarity “SSR” in-game card to be announced during the show itself, and the loud cheers this triggered were part of what got discussed in the thread. Phrases in the thread like “uchi” (a dialect first-person pronoun) and “poka poka” are running gags that mimic the speech patterns of a specific character in the series, and since the thread offers no explanation, the context can be hard to follow for first-time readers. The other major topic — congestion around Shibuya Station — is a recurring post-show rush at the station nearest these big concerts; some attendees choose to spread out via Meiji-jingumae or Yoyogi-koen stations instead, but even so, many this time still reported flooded walkways and missed trains. The thread mixes posts from people attending in person with those following along from home, blending firsthand accounts with casual chatter.

  • ‘That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime’ Tops Anime Recording Rankings for 6th Straight Week — 5ch: ‘The Meetings Are Better Than the Battles’

In the Summer 2026 anime recording rankings published by Anime Hack on September 16, “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 4” claimed the top spot for the sixth consecutive week. “Yomi no Tsugai” came in second, while “The Elusive Samurai Season 2” — which hadn’t even placed the week before — surged to third, and “Futsutsuka na Akujo de wa Gozaimasu ga,” up from fifth last week, climbed to fourth. On 5ch, alongside posts naming favorite shows, users traded opinions on individual series (“Slime is more fun when it’s meetings than battles,” “Why isn’t Saga of Tanya the Evil on here?”), and some questioned the limits of recording counts as a metric in the first place.

    Anime Hack, September 16, 2026 (Wed) 20:00

In the third week of September’s Summer 2026 anime recording rankings, “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Season 4)” took first place for the sixth consecutive week.

Second place went to “Yomi no Tsugai.” “The Elusive Samurai (Season 2),” outside the rankings last week, jumped to third, while “Futsutsuka na Akujo de wa Gozaimasu ga ~Hinamiya Chouso Torikaeden~,” fifth last week, rose to fourth.

This season it was Seihantai, Tsugai, Futsutsuka, Tenmaku, Otome Kaijuu, and Lala that were the fun ones
    6AnonymousSep 20, 2026 18:17
    Saga of Tanya the Evil
    Futsutsuka na Akujo
    Katainaka no Kensei
    Mushoku Tensei
    Jadoogar

those are probably the top picks this season

    Clevatess
Even Reincarnated, I Still Want to Fight
    The Exiled Heavy Knight

    were fun too though

This is a recording-count ranking, so anything not aired on NHK or the major networks isn't going to show up.
Even with streaming, platforms stagger release timing, so whether a show streams first or with a delay makes rankings unreliable to begin with — goes double for TV recording numbers.
I don't watch broadcast TV so correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Re:Zero only on independent stations like MX and BS11?
    13AnonymousSep 20, 2026 18:20

    51AnonymousSep 20, 2026 18:47
    Re: #32
Honestly I was sick of it during the last stretch that was all meetings.
It's an easygoing isekai with an OP cheat protagonist to begin with, so there's never any weighty topic, and it gets resolved instantly anyway.

This season the protagonist's kind of on the sidelines — unclear how it'll tie back to him, but the 'so that's what was going on' reveals still make it worth watching.

    Background and Points of Debate

It’s worth noting that this ranking is based on “recording reservation counts” as published by Anime Hack — a different metric entirely from viewer ratings or streaming playback numbers. As pointed out in the thread, the count tends to center on shows aired on terrestrial broadcast (mainly the major networks), while shows airing only on independent stations like MX or BS11, or that are streaming-only, are less likely to be reflected. That’s why some posts pointed to differences in broadcast stations as the reason “Re:Zero” doesn’t appear near the top. Shifts in ranking depend not just on a show’s buzz, but on which stations carry it and how many episodes in, as well as how deeply the habit of reserving recordings has taken root among its viewers. Readers should keep in mind that treating this as a simple popularity poll or satisfaction survey risks giving a skewed picture of reality.
