  • Juice=Juice Sparks Debate on 5ch After Magazine Cover Appearance: ‘Are They Actually Selling?’

A thread titled “Is Juice=Juice actually selling well?” popped up on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. The trigger was Juice=Juice landing on the same magazine cover as HYDE and Anya. Some in the thread marveled, “It’s amazing they made it into this lineup,” while others debated the gap in treatment compared to Morning Musume and the group’s overall standing. As for real sales momentum, some pointed to the recent launch of solo and duo merchandise for members as a sign — but opinions remained split.

Isn't it kind of amazing they're on a magazine cover in this lineup?
    2AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:06
Guess life really does just come down to luck in the end.
    3AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:06
    Wait, why HYDE?
    4AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:07
How many months are you gonna keep saying the same thing lol
    5AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:09
Being on the same cover as Anya is genuinely impressive.

Is selling well even a good thing?
    8AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:11
Looking at the lineup, it's honestly impressive lol
    13AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:13
Morning Musume's name is on there too.
    The "flagship" group, huh…?
    14AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:13

    19AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:14
It's nice that it's more like an artist magazine rather than an idol magazine like UTB, you know?
    22AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:14
Oh, Morning Musume's in it too.
Good for them, riding along as a package deal.
    26AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:14
How many times are you gonna make the same thread?
    30AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:15
Apparently they can't stop wetting themselves with joy over it (lol)
    34AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:16
For reference, around this time last year it was just fans among themselves going on about "Amo Amo." (an in-fandom nickname/catchphrase)
    36AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:17
Morning Musume gets treated as the lesser group.
    40AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:17
They're just starting to get buzz and recognition — whether they're actually selling is still up in the air.
    50AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:18
Bundled-Deal Musume lolololol (playing on "Morning Musume" as a tie-in add-on)
    57AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:20
Since they started selling solo and duo merch for members, I figured they must actually be selling well now.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Within Hello! Project, Morning Musume — the flagship group since the earliest days — is often regarded as the de facto standard-bearer, and the exposure and treatment given to later groups tends to get measured against it. This time, the buzz stemmed from Juice=Juice joining a magazine cover lineup alongside well-known celebrities; some in the thread marveled at how impressive it was to be included in such company, while others took a more cautious view, noting that a magazine appearance alone doesn’t prove actual sales. One piece of evidence cited was the launch of solo and duo merchandise for individual members — in the idol industry, whether or not this kind of individual-level rollout happens is often treated as a barometer of popularity. That said, opinions in the thread were far from unanimous, and it’s worth noting how sharply views diverged on how to interpret this rise in exposure.

  • RTX 6000 ‘Rubin’ Launch Slips to 2028, PS6 Price Speculation Sparks Flame War

Reports that NVIDIA’s next-generation GPU, the GeForce RTX 6000 (Rubin), will be delayed until 2028 have sparked a wave of reactions on 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (Geha) board. The launch had already been pushed back once from an original target of late 2027, and thread users also shared word that soaring semiconductor prices are driving up memory costs — reportedly prompting Microsoft to work on making Windows leaner on memory. The discussion soon drifted away from the RTX 6000 itself and toward speculation on the PS6’s likely price and performance versus the cost-effectiveness of PC gaming, splitting posters into a “PCs let you freely upgrade parts” camp and a “consoles are cheaper in the end” camp.

    Man, this is disappointing.
DLSS5 is already brutal on current-gen GPUs, and now the new-architecture RTX 6000 gets delayed even further?

The current DLSS5 uses an AI model that also runs on RTX 40-series cards, so let's wait for the AI model optimized for the RTX 50 series, supposedly coming this late autumn🥺

Semiconductor prices have gotten so bad that Microsoft is apparently rebuilding Windows so it can run comfortably on just 8GB of RAM to match. Is everything okay?

No, there's definitely a huge gap between the PS6 and gaming PCs of that generation, so compromising on the PC side is the only real option.

    Re: #32
That's exactly why — if you're in the customer segment that can't even scrape together 55,000 yen, PC or not, you won't be buying a PS6 either.

    Re: #32
The PS5 Pro costs 140,000 yen, but an equivalent GPU sells for 50,000🤔
That relationship isn't going to change just because the generation does.
There's no way a console — where you buy the whole thing outright — can compete with a PC where you only need to upgrade the GPU😅
    29AnonymousSep 22, 2026 09:15

The software lineup right now is pretty thin.
Honestly, even if you buy a good PC, you're not playing that many demanding games anyway, are you?
    68AnonymousSep 22, 2026 09:37
    Re: #57
PCs already have better cost-performance, which is exactly why they're the biggest market.
Say, hypothetically, consoles could swap parts.
Then you could drop a GPU costing as much as a PS6 into a PS5 and easily beat the PS6's specs.
Well, there'd be a ceiling since the PS5's CPU is trash, but still.
Since consoles can't do that, you're stuck buying insanely expensive memory and storage all over again every generation.
It's obvious the cost-performance is bad.
    70AnonymousSep 22, 2026 09:41
PCs will probably all be dead before 2028 even arrives, so this is pointless anyway.

The old days where shrinking the process node meant more performance for less money are over.
You should just assume the RTX 60-series' price will climb right alongside its performance🥺

Whatever performance gains come "for free" are basically all thanks to DLSS🥺
    95AnonymousSep 22, 2026 10:02
    Re: #91
But the jump from the RTX 4000 series to the RTX 5000 series had a huge performance increase without even changing the process node???
    98AnonymousSep 22, 2026 10:04
    Re: #91
DLSS's performance gains actually come largely from newer generations of CUDA cores, so newer GPUs are still better in the end.
New DLSS versions are built to hit optimal performance on newer cards, and with the RTX 6000 bringing a whole new architecture on top of that, the gap versus the RTX 5000 is going to be pretty significant.
    87AnonymousSep 22, 2026 09:53
For the PS6, raw performance is said to be around 40 teraflops — factoring in PSSR3, that puts it roughly on par with an RTX 5080.

    104AnonymousSep 22, 2026 10:10
Honestly, a 3060 Ti is more than enough for me.
    I can't drop 100,000 or a million yen on a graphics card.
Saying this always makes the spec-obsessed crowd turn red in the face and start raging, but it's still more powerful than a PS5.

The console-war crowd is wild — consoles get to keep the exact same specs forever, but somehow PCs are expected to upgrade their GPU every single time😡
If you own a GPU better than a 2060, it stays ahead of consoles for that entire generation anyway.
As a PC user who's free to upgrade or not upgrade as I please, I honestly don't get the logic😅

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

As the thread points out, the slowdown in semiconductor process miniaturization means much of the ongoing performance gains now come from AI-based enhancements like DLSS rather than the hardware itself — DLSS5 already runs on older-generation GPUs and isn’t unique to the upcoming RTX 6000. Meanwhile, as of this writing Sony has made no official announcement about the PS6, so figures floated in the thread like “40 teraflops” or “in the 200,000-yen range” remain nothing more than rumor and speculation. Much of the thread framed high-end PCs and the PS6 as opposing choices, but the underlying disconnect is that consoles can’t have their parts swapped after purchase while PCs allow for gradual, incremental investment — a difference that means the comparison can’t be reduced to price alone.

  • Love Live! Fans Confess Who They Truly Stan (and Hate) — 5ch: ‘Aqours Fans Have the Best Manners, Hands Down’

A thread on 5ch’s Love Live! board titled “Confess whether you’re really a stan or a hater” got fans openly admitting which entries in the franchise they adore and which ones they can’t stand. The Love Live! series runs multiple groups in parallel — from the original μ’s to Nijigasaki High School Idol Club, Liella!, and now the newest addition, Hasunosora Girls’ School Idol Club — which creates fertile ground for fans to split into “stans” and “haters” depending on which group they follow. The thread ranged widely, covering complaints about each fandom’s manners and the franchise’s business decisions, right down to comparisons of the casts’ looks.

    Background and Talking Points

The Love Live! franchise is defined by running multiple groups and titles side by side since the original μ’s launched in the 2010s — Aqours, Nijigasaki High School Idol Club, Liella!, and now the newest entry, Hasunosora Girls’ School Idol Club — which tends to split fan enthusiasm sharply along group lines. This thread drew a wide range of candid opinions about the temperature gap between fandoms, touching on everything from the casts’ live-concert strategies to comparisons with past entries. In the thread’s later half, though, the discussion drifted into spam posting on the board and moderation issues on other boards, straying from the original “confess your stan/anti status” premise — so this article omits that portion and focuses on the replies where fans spoke candidly about how they relate to each title.

A post captioned “a polyester lifestyle” reportedly drew nearly 40,000 likes. On 5ch, the news sparked a wave of comments pointing out polyester’s genuine functional strengths, noting that Japan has had its own decades-old tradition of using synthetic fibers as a metaphor for cheapness, and explaining the differences between polyester and other synthetic fibers like polyethylene and polypropylene — turning the thread into an impromptu trivia session on textiles themselves.

But right now, English-speaking Gen Zers are starting to use the word in a completely different way — as a new insult for judging the quality of a person or content: “cheap,” “shallow,” “not the real thing.”

Polypropylene is stuff like Muji's sturdy storage boxes, among other things — though the original was RISU's cargo trunk.

Polypropylene (the ultimate in quick-drying — absorbs zero moisture)
    Polyester (the sportswear standard)
Nylon (tough enough for camping trips and the outdoors)
Acrylic (the quickest-drying of the winter fabrics)
Polyurethane (stretch material — weak to heat)
Silk (thin, but does absorb moisture)
Linen (absorbs moisture, but breathes exceptionally well)
Cotton (takes a while, since it holds onto moisture)
Wool (like merino) (holds moisture deep within the fiber)
Cupro (a regenerated fiber similar to rayon, with high moisture absorption/release)
Rayon (absorbs the most moisture, and dries slowly once wet)

There are clothes that make the most of each material,
but some people judge purely by the material itself.
Cupro is smooth, so it's used as lining for suits and coats.
Acrylic pills easily, but it has the advantage of not being itchy like a wool sweater

100% silk wrinkles easily, and on top of that it tears easily lol

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Behind polyester’s transformation into an insult lies its long-standing image as a symbol of fast fashion — “cheap” and “disposable.” At the same time, polyester is prized for its quick-drying properties and durability, and is a genuinely practical material used in sportswear and even as lining for luxury brand goods. This gap — between commenters praising its functionality and the sense of it as a metaphor for cheapness — became a key point of discussion in the thread. Japan, too, has long used synthetic materials as a metaphor for something artificial or superficial, as in the 1980s song “Plastic Love.” Rather than being an entirely new idea, Gen Z’s slang can be read as another instance of a similar metaphor recurring across languages and generations. The way the discussion expanded to cover the differences between polyester and similar materials like polyethylene and polypropylene is a nuance that’s hard to grasp from the original article alone.

  • Why Rosy Chronicle Is Struggling to Break Out: 5ch Says ‘Without an Ace, They’re Just a Disorganized Mob’

A thread asking “why aren’t they selling?” has popped up on 5ch’s Hello! Project board, focused on the sales struggles of Hello! Project’s new group, Rosy Chronicle. Less than a year since its formation, posters raised a range of issues — a fixed musical direction, the balance between singing ability and stage presence, the lack of a clear ace/center, and management’s heavy focus on handshake and meet-and-greet events — while others countered that “not selling well after less than a year is actually normal.” Opinions were split.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Rosy Chronicle is a new group formed less than a year ago, and the thread pointed to factors like a fixed musical direction, the lack of a clear ace/center, and management’s heavy focus on handshake and meet-and-greet events. While Hello! Project has kept forming new groups in recent years, some posters noted that the franchise has landed only a handful of nationwide hit songs in the past several decades — a backdrop behind the split between “it’s actually normal not to be selling after less than a year” and “this is just a disorganized mob.” Most posts centered on opinions about the songs, singing ability, and promotional strategy, largely discussing the group’s overall direction. Worth noting: while this kind of “why aren’t they selling” discussion can read as an attack on individual members, in practice the focus here was mainly criticism of management policy and song selection.

  • New-Crop Koshihikari Rice Down ¥2,000 From Last Year — ‘We Lose Money Growing It,’ Say Rice Farmers in Crisis

It’s been reported that the selling price of new-crop Koshihikari rice in Niigata Prefecture has fallen by roughly ¥2,000 from last year amid what’s described as a historic “rice glut,” leaving farmers in dire straits with “we lose money if we grow it.” While some see it as a relief for household budgets, the thread saw criticism of the agriculture ministry for misreading supply and demand, disagreement over the timing and volume of the stockpiled-rice releases, and comments pointing to an accelerating shift away from rice — underscoring how both farmers and consumers end up unhappy whether prices rise or fall.

    Re: #206
Enough already — go eat pasta for the rest of your life.

Background and Key Points of This Story

This sharp price drop comes as a reaction to 2025’s record-poor harvest and speculative hoarding, which had pushed prices up to a socially disruptive “over ¥5,000 for 5kg” and turned into a major issue. The government tried to rein in prices by releasing stockpiled rice, but the thread was split over whether the agriculture ministry or JA bears more blame for the volume and timing of that release — criticism that “the Ishiba/Koizumi administration’s release came too late” ran alongside criticism that “JA treated the stockpiled rice as ordinary rice and was slow to put it on the market.” Since rice prices hinge on multiple factors — weather, speculation, distribution inventories — it’s easy to mistakenly pin either the spike or the crash on a single culprit. Worth keeping in mind too: farmers’ “we lose money if we grow it” predicament is a structural problem born of persistently high material and fuel costs colliding with falling sale prices — the flip side of the “relief for household budgets” story on the consumer end.

  • Yamagata’s ‘Yukiwakamaru’ Rice Nabs Top Grade 8 Years Running, Yet Still Can’t Sell — 5ch: “The Taste Difference Doesn’t Match the Price Difference”

Yamagata Prefecture’s branded rice “Yukiwakamaru” has earned Japan’s top “Special A” rating in the annual rice-tasting rankings for eight consecutive years since its debut, but sales of the 2025 harvest have stalled amid rising prices and a growing consumer shift toward cheaper rice. JA Zen-Noh Yamagata is holding down its provisional purchase price for the 2026 harvest, and the prefecture is stepping up promotion with a supplementary budget. On 5ch, some argued the price simply needs to come down, while others pointed out that the brand is stuck in an awkward mid-price spot, overshadowed by the premium “Tsuyahime” brand — though plenty of posters were also coolly dismissive, saying there are just too many rice brands to tell the taste apart anyway.

Yamagata’s branded rice “Yukiwakamaru” is facing a make-or-break moment. With prices surging and consumers turned off by the so-called “Reiwa rice panic,” more people are hunting for cheaper rice, and sales of the 2025 harvest struggled as a result. JA Zen-Noh Yamagata is keeping its provisional price for the 2026 harvest low, while Yamagata Prefecture has put together a supplementary budget to boost promotion. This autumn looks like a decisive test for growing both sales volume and brand recognition.

For the 2025 harvest, being positioned as the mid-priced “little brother” to the premium “Tsuyahime” brand became a liability

Yukiwakamaru debuted in 2018 and, thanks to its strong heat tolerance, has steadily expanded its planted acreage ever since. For the 2027 harvest, growers expect to plant 7,700 hectares and produce 45,430 tons. By requiring growers to register in order to maintain quality, the brand has earned Japan’s top “Special A” rating in the rice-tasting rankings for eight consecutive years since its debut.

Looks like a high-sodium meal — and it probably is. That's the problem with rice-centric meals: you end up shoveling down heavily seasoned side dishes along with the rice, so the seasoning always ends up strong.

So Nanatsuboshi is on the firmer, more subtly-flavored side, huh. It's cheap so I used to buy it now and then, and I liked that the taste didn't seem to fade even after it sat around a while after cooking. Sounds like Yukiwakamaru is a bit closer to "standard" than Nanatsuboshi. So maybe it really does just come down to name recognition after all? I hear it's a bit cheaper than Tsuyahime, but if it's only "a bit" cheaper, maybe that's not enough to make people choose it?

    Background and Talking Points

“Special A” is a taste rating from the Japan Grain Inspection Association based on sensory panels that taste-test cooked rice — it’s a separate system from safety checks like radiation testing. Rice from the Tohoku region has undergone near-total radiation testing of each harvest since 2012, and reports of levels exceeding the standard have been almost nonexistent in recent years. Opinions in the thread were split on pricing: some pointed out that the price gap with the premium “Tsuyahime” brand is too small to justify choosing Yukiwakamaru, while many others said there are simply too many rice brands out there to tell the taste differences apart. The reason producing regions have competed to develop their own branded rice varieties traces back to the 1995 Staple Food Act, which deregulated rice distribution and intensified competition between regions. Yukiwakamaru has positioned itself as the mid-priced “little brother” to Tsuyahime, but that positioning carries a structural risk: it tends to backfire whenever consumers grow more price-conscious.

  • ‘Sienta driver = loser man’ claim draws backlash — 5ch says: “If you’ve got a family, aren’t you winning at life?”

A thread on 5ch’s Nandemo Jikkyo G board claiming that “men who drive the Toyota Sienta are being mocked as losers” sparked a mixed reaction. The Sienta, a compact minivan with sliding doors, is especially popular with families raising kids, and many posters pushed back, arguing that “only people with families buy it, so if anything that makes them winners.” Others weighed in on the car’s design or reminisced about non-sliding-door models like the Cube and bB that have since disappeared from the market, turning the thread into a mix of genuine car talk and debate over whether the “loser man” label even makes sense.

What do you even look at on a daily basis?

    Background and Key Points

The Sienta is a compact, sliding-door minivan from Toyota that has built strong demand among families with children thanks to its spacious back seats and easy handling. Rival models in the same class that lacked sliding doors — like the Cube, the bB, and the Ractis — have all disappeared from the lineup over the years, leaving sliding-door vans as the only survivors in this segment. The disagreement in the thread wasn’t really about the car itself, but about whether the premise “Sienta = a loser man’s car” holds up at all — commenters repeatedly pointed out that if the buyers are mostly people with families, the whole joke aimed at single men falls apart. At the same time, the car’s strong popularity among women drivers and comparisons with rivals like the Honda Freed and the Renault Kangoo also came up, making this less a pure flame war and more a discussion grounded in real-world usability.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

YouTube is known to retroactively correct view and like counts when it detects unnatural patterns, such as the same user rapidly clicking repeatedly in a short span of time, and the thread’s talk of numbers being “corrected to reflect real activity” appears to refer to this mechanism. That said, the reported change from 100,000 to 41,000 is based solely on the original poster’s own observation — no official statement from YouTube or independent verification has been presented. Disputes over idol MV view and like counts, with fans of different groups accusing each other of “padding the numbers,” are a recurring sight across idol-related boards on 5ch, and discussions like this one typically play out through speculation and wishful thinking rather than hard evidence — this thread being a textbook example.

  • Even Buddhist Altars and Graves Go Subscription — 5ch: ‘A Subscription Is a Never-Ending Bleed’

The Yomiuri Shimbun reported on subscription services for Buddhist altars and graves. Citing anxiety over who will inherit them and the burden of upkeep, a system offering monthly flat-rate plans has emerged. On 5ch’s Business News+ thread, some voices supported simpler forms of memorial such as “an unclaimed communal grave is enough” or “just scatter the ashes at sea,” while others questioned the custom of having a butsudan or grave at all, or pointed to the cost, saying “about 2,700 yen a month is too expensive — just buy a cheap altar instead.” Some also voiced concern about facilities offering “eternal memorial services” going bankrupt and leaving remains in limbo.

Subscription (flat-fee) services have appeared for Buddhist altars and graves — items once taken for granted as things passed down from generation to generation, to children and grandchildren.

They are drawing attention from people who still want to honor their ancestors but wish to avoid the anxiety of passing them on and the burden of upkeep. (Naho Yako)

The problem with graves and ossuaries that advertise 'eternal memorial services' or '33-year guarantees' is that a fair number of them end up going bankrupt, leaving the remains with nowhere to go.

At the end of the day, traditional municipal or temple graveyards — including through relocations and consolidations — tend to stay stable over the long haul.
For simple, reliable handling of a grave and remains, an ordinary grave or ossuary is the safe bet.
A temple in the middle of the city might demand a lot from its parishioners, but if it's not that kind of temple, the financial burden is usually reasonable.

The greed of thinking the inheritance is 'mine' is way too strong.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Against the backdrop of a shrinking, aging population and the concentration of people in urban areas, more and more households are finding it difficult to pass down a large butsudan or spacious grave from generation to generation. Living in an apartment leaves little room for an altar to begin with, and grave upkeep tends to become a burden for children and grandchildren living far away. Subscription-style services were born out of these circumstances, with the appeal being the convenience of outsourcing management for a flat monthly fee. On the other hand, “eternal memorial” plans and ossuaries are systems that depend on the financial health of the operating company, and critics point out the risk that if an operator withdraws or goes bankrupt, the handling of the remains can be left in limbo. Opinions on the thread were split between those supporting simple forms of memorial like communal burial or scattering ashes at sea, and those questioning the pricing and long-term sustainability of these arrangements. Rather than one side being simply right, the discussion reflected how the form of memorial one should choose is diversifying along with family structure and financial circumstances.
