  • ‘SYNDUALITY Echo of Ada’ Ending Online Service — 5ch: “It’s a graveyard for third-party publishers”

Bandai Namco’s online action title SYNDUALITY Echo of Ada has announced it will end its online service and produce an offline version instead. The thread buzzed over reports that Steam’s peak concurrent player count of 3,622 has now fallen to just 143, along with the game’s history of steep discounts — including sales as low as 300 yen (97% off). At the same time, many welcomed the offline version itself, since even the dedicated single-player mode originally required a constant internet connection. Much of the discussion centered on how this joins a string of short-lived online titles Bandai Namco has put out for PlayStation, including Sand Land, Code Vein, and Blue Protocol.

Notice: ‘SYNDUALITY Echo of Ada’ — Online Service Discontinuation and Decision to Produce an Offline Version

To everyone enjoying SYNDUALITY Echo of Ada,

As for whether Bandai Namco has actually helped Sony, though, it's not just questionable — I'd call it nothing but harmful.
The clearest case is the PS3 JoJo's Bizarre Adventure game. After that, the market for manga/anime licensed games on PlayStation hardware shrank fast and never recovered.

    Nope.

This product is an online-only game. It cannot be played while offline.

The main mode of this game is competitive online play called "Online Raid," a Player vs Player vs Enemy (a.k.a. PvPvE) format.

Impressive they pulled off a full media-mix rollout (a term nobody even uses anymore).
Guess they really believed in this brand.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

SYNDUALITY Echo of Ada is a Bandai Namco media-mix project spanning anime, model kits, and games simultaneously, developed as an online-only title built around PvPvE competitive play. The fact that even the solo “Amasia Investigation” mode required a constant connection is why many are welcoming the decision to produce an offline version. Opinion in the thread split over whether to see this shutdown as an isolated failure, or as just one more entry in a string of failed live-service titles Bandai Namco has released for PlayStation, such as Code Vein, Blue Protocol, and the My Hero Academia titles. Concerns about platform strategy also came up, tied to Bandai Namco currently avoiding new releases on Switch 2 — though this remains speculation, not something the company has officially explained. The drop in Steam’s concurrent player count is drawn from the platform’s own measured data and was cited to illustrate the scale of the service’s decline.

  • Rice Prices Drop, and ‘Free Extra Rice’ Makes a Comeback as Bento Shops and Restaurants Cut Prices

Rice market prices, after their earlier spike, have now turned downward — and bento shops and restaurants are increasingly bringing back discounted “extra-large rice” servings and “free refills.” With overall inflation keeping customers away, the aim is to win them back by cutting the price of their staple food, rice. Meanwhile, on the forum thread, many posters complained that convenience store onigiri and packaged rice show no sign of getting cheaper and remain stuck at high prices, drawing frustration and sarcasm over the uneven response across different types of businesses. Whether the price cuts spread further remains uncertain, tangled up with rising costs for materials and labor.

    Yomiuri Shimbun Online

Rice market prices, which had spiked temporarily, have now fallen, and takeout and dine-in restaurants are increasingly reviving discounted “extra-large rice” servings and “free refills.” As soaring prices for food and other goods weigh on household budgets, the move aims to secure customers by cutting the price of their “staple food.” At the same time, material and labor costs continue to rise, and attention is focused on how far rice price cuts will spread. Nope, won't happen.
Convenience stores are always watching for a chance to raise prices,
and once they raise them, they never bring them back down.
That's exactly why they're losing to smaller discount supermarkets like Maibasuket.
The reason they'll keep getting wiped out going forward is that they won't change that strategy —
it's not about the price of rice or any single item.

Sure, some of it is that the rice itself is bad, but I think how it's cooked matters more for the taste.
Restaurants usually use gas rice cookers that do at least 3-sho batches (about 5.4 liters), and gas cookers make the tastiest rice.

Isn't it embarrassing to generalize like that?
    Personally I prefer domestic rice.
I don't mind long-grain rice either depending on the dish — I just like rice itself.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Rice prices, after a temporary spike in recent years (the so-called “Reiwa rice crisis”), have been trending downward as supply has stabilized. However, how quickly the price cuts get passed on varies by business type. As pointed out on the thread, convenience store onigiri and packaged rice face circumstances like “can’t lower prices until last year’s high-priced stock is used up” and “packaging and shipping costs are a separate expense.” Behind why bento shop price hikes haven’t reversed is the rise in costs for ingredients other than rice, such as chicken, along with labor costs, plus the fact that more shops are going out of business due to soaring costs for materials like plastic containers. The thread was split between those simply welcoming the return of price cuts and free refills, and those frustrated that “only some business types are keeping prices high without cutting.” Underlying this is the structural reality that the price of takeout and restaurant food isn’t determined by the cost of rice alone.

  • Do You Really Need Your Own Car? 5ch: ‘In a Kei Car, Even the Weight of Your Life Is Featherlight’

A thread titled “Do you seriously not need your own car?” appeared on 5ch’s Newsspeed VIP board, kicking off a debate that began with the question of whether city-dwelling singles even need a car. The discussion mixed economic arguments with real-life perspectives — from calls to raise vehicle tax as a “tax on luxury goods,” to claims that Toyota’s domestic sales amount to a net loss for Japan once imported raw materials are factored in, to a debate over the safety of kei (mini) cars. Practical talk about whether leasing or buying is the better deal also came up, and the thread ended up highlighting how differences in where and how people live shape opinions on whether a car is truly necessary.

Since most of the raw materials are imported and the cars run on imported fuel, selling cars domestically is basically the same as Uniqlo, Nitori, or Daiso importing goods from overseas and selling them here.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Vehicle tax is levied based on engine displacement, and the argument that “if cars are a luxury, taxes should go up” is nothing new. But the thread’s claim that “Toyota’s domestic sales amount to a net loss for the country once imported raw materials are included” oversimplifies the trade balance and hasn’t been economically verified. It’s true that Toyota sells more cars overseas than domestically, but concluding from that alone that domestic demand equals a net loss is a logical leap. As for the crash safety of kei cars, current models do meet crash safety standards, so “crumple and catch fire” is an exaggeration — though it’s worth noting that, due to their smaller body size, kei cars genuinely do have less crumple space to absorb impact. The thread started from the practical question of whether a car is really needed for city living, but in the later half it drifted into exchanges that dressed themselves up as economic debate while really just mocking other posters, with the bickering overshadowing the substance.

  • Tsubaki Factory Divides Fans: Live-Band Guitar Solos and Excessive Fan Calls Spark Debate

Tsubaki Factory’s live shows sparked two hot debates at once on the 5ch Hello! Project board — the “band problem” and the “call problem.” At shows featuring live band arrangements, some fans cooled on hearing a live guitar solo from “some guy we don’t know,” while others fired back that “it’s sad to have a sensibility that can’t enjoy music,” leading to a debate where neither side really engaged with the other. At the same time, some pointed out that the sheer intensity of the fan calls (kakegoe) might be scaring off new fans, turning the discussion into a broader question of what “getting hyped” at a live show should even look like.

@Tsubaki's calls weren't demanded by overzealous fans — the members themselves came up with the calls at events and even made tutorial videos for them. Through repeated release events, they built the calls together with the fans, which is why they feel so unified. Thanks to the members' effort, the live shows became something that gets hyped across a wide variety of setlists.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

Band-format idol shows have become fairly common on the Hello! Project scene in recent years, and the live guitar solos and arrangement changes that come with a real band can clash with fans’ expectations of a faithful reproduction of the original song. This clash boils down to a mismatch between the “can’t you enjoy music?” camp and the “I came here to see the idols” camp — it’s less a matter of one side being right and more a difference in live-show culture. As for the other flashpoint, the excessiveness of the calls, it’s easy to overlook — as pointed out in post 20 — that the members themselves originally came up with and cultivated the calls, so it’s not simply a case of “fans running wild.” You could describe it as a structure where a performance choice made by the performers (the band) and a response culture built by the audience (the calls) have each grown bigger at the same time, raising the question of how well the two now fit together.

  • ‘JUNGLIA Okinawa’ Attendance Falls to Half of Target; As Park Seeks Emergency Funding, 5ch Says: ‘It’s Not Fun, That’s Why Nobody’s Coming’

According to a report by the Yomiuri Shimbun, JUNGLIA Okinawa, the large theme park in northern Okinawa Island, has seen visitor numbers stuck at roughly half of its original projections about a year after opening, and is now requesting additional loans and investment as its cash flow worsens. Tsuyoshi Morioka, CEO of the consulting firm “Katana,” which spearheaded the park’s planning, reportedly attended the shareholders’ meeting and presented a turnaround plan with lowered visitor targets and break-even points. On 5ch, opinions were split over whether poor accessibility or thin content was the main cause of the slump, with many also pointing out that the public-private Cool Japan Fund is among the park’s investors.

Honestly, the location itself isn't that big a problem. Churaumi Aquarium, just nearby, gets 3.4 million visitors a year. The reason JUNGLIA only pulled in a mere 1 million in its first year comes down to one thing: JUNGLIA just isn't fun. That's really all there is to it.

No, it's not actually close — it's over 30 minutes by car, so even from the aquarium you'd have to take a bus. I just looked it up, and there's only one direct bus a day from Churaumi Aquarium to JUNGLIA, leaving around noon. Realistically, trying to hit both the aquarium and JUNGLIA in one trip is a fool's errand. If it were at least within walking distance of the Ocean Expo Park tourist area, it could have scooped up the aquarium's visitors too.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

JUNGLIA Okinawa is a large theme park that opened in Nago City in northern Okinawa Island. Even before opening, it drew attention through PR stunts like the T-Rex chase experience devised by Tsuyoshi Morioka of the consulting firm “Katana.” Its investors include the public-private Cool Japan Fund, and the fact that public money is involved is part of why this news struck a nerve. Opinions in the thread split mainly over whether location or content is the bigger cause of the slump: some pointed to the nearby Churaumi Aquarium (3.4 million visitors a year) to argue that “location isn’t the problem,” while others countered that with only one direct bus a day, the area has poor connectivity for sightseeing. One point readers could easily misread: the “skimming” accusations aimed at the development consultants are speculation within the thread, not facts confirmed by the reporting. That Morioka apologized and lowered the targets at the shareholders’ meeting is a fact from the article itself, but questions about management’s future or the legitimacy of any lawsuit remain strictly 5ch’s own opinions.

  • Shohei Ohtani Hits .182 With Zero Homers in September — 5ch Digs Into the Slump

Shohei Ohtani’s batting has cratered in September, falling from an August line of .248, 7 home runs, 15 RBIs, and an .830 OPS down to .182, 0 home runs, 1 RBI, and a .584 OPS. On 5ch’s live-game threads, users have been debating the causes of the slump — the state of his right elbow after two Tommy John surgeries, the swing mechanics thrown off as a result, and his refusal to take the rest he’s been urged to take while continuing to both pitch and hit. Opinions are split over whether he still needs to keep up the two-way act, how his numbers stack up against teammates, and the fact that the Dodgers are holding first place even without him carrying the offense.

Apparently the elbow that's had two Tommy John surgeries just isn't holding up. Everyone kept telling him to rest, but he completely ignored it and kept pushing, so it got worse and worse. That's bled into his hitting too — he started using a compromised swing to protect the elbow, so the ball stopped carrying, and when he tried to muscle up to compensate, his knee started acting up as well. Now apparently both the elbow and the knee are shot.

    58AnonymousSep 26, 2026 22:59
The reason he won't drop the "two-way player" label is that if he became a DH-only guy in name and reality both, he'd look like he'd been demoted.
    106AnonymousSep 26, 2026 23:23
    Re: #58
More than that, it's precisely because he's a "two-way player" that hogging the DH spot has been tolerated. Realistically, not being able to use the DH slot to rest teammates is brutal for the team.
    64AnonymousSep 26, 2026 23:00
The whole "two-way player" thing only worked while he was young because the entire team was babying him — hogging the DH spot for him, spacing out his starts, all of it.
    76AnonymousSep 26, 2026 23:04
    Re: #64
Yeah, this is really what it comes down to. It only worked because the team ran things in a special way just for Ohtani's sake. And that kind of treatment only flies on a weak team — the moment he moved to the Dodgers, nobody was willing to give him that special treatment anymore, and everything fell apart.
    78AnonymousSep 26, 2026 23:05
    Re: #64
Even with all that babying, you can't fake your way to a 50-50 season — the talent is real. But once they brought him back to pitch, his elbow finally gave out for good and now everything's a mess. Guess the theory that ligaments have a fixed lifespan was right after all. He should've listened when Darvish told him he could succeed as a hitter and should focus on hitting.
    71AnonymousSep 26, 2026 23:02

Roster spots for pitchers in MLB are really tight, so being registered as a position player who can also pitch is a lot more useful there than it would be in NPB.

Teams that are already locked out of the postseason are running out rookies and fringe players to audition them, so it's less that the Dodgers are playing well and more that their opponents are just in "meaningless game" mode now.

This team already hit 100+ wins in 2017, 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2023 — that has nothing to do with Ohtani, are you joking? If anything, they only won in the 90s his first two years there, and this is a team that's won 90+ games nearly every year for over a decade, aside from the shortened 2020 COVID season.

With a body that breaks down that easily, outfield is out of the question, and even first base is questionable.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Ohtani has undergone Tommy John surgery on his right elbow twice, in 2018 and 2023, and the current slump is believed to be linked to the strain that returning to pitching has placed on his elbow and knee. In the thread, users pointed out that the Dodgers have been a powerhouse lineup winning 90+ games almost every year since 2017, even before Ohtani joined, pushing back against the view that the team wins because of him. Opinions are split on whether he should continue as a two-way player — some argue he should prioritize rest, while Ohtani himself appears more focused on his track record as a pitcher — suggesting that batting statistics alone can’t easily settle whether rest is needed or whether continuing the two-way role still makes sense.

  • DRAW♡ME’s New Single Handled by Hoshibe Sho & YOKO — 5ch: ‘Can’t Tell It Apart’

It became a hot topic on 5ch’s Hello! Project board that Hoshibe Sho and YOKO wrote the new single for DRAW♡ME, an idol group that emerged from the video-streaming project “Noblock.” Since the song’s style closely resembles Hello! Project’s sound, some posters claimed the label had gotten permission from Up-Front, which runs Hello! Project, to use it. The thread buzzed with comparisons like “you can’t tell it apart from Juice=Juice,” along with members’ backgrounds and the story of how the group was formed. Opinions on the song and the management’s approach were split, with praise and criticism running side by side.

Moriwaki Ririka, a regular on "Noblock," was originally into watching idols as a hobby, so she pitched the idea to Sakuma that she wanted to try being an idol herself. She gathered other regular members from Noblock to form the group — it was supposed to be a limited-time thing, but since it turned out more fun than expected and got a good response, they decided to keep it going, and now a major-label debut is set too.

Tateno Saki / Oldest member, former member of the theater troupe "4 Dollars 50 Cents"

Background and Key Points of This Topic

DRAW♡ME is an idol group formed at the initiative of Moriwaki Ririka, a regular performer on Sakuma’s streaming project “Noblock.” It was originally meant to be a limited-run project, but its popularity led to a major-label debut. Hoshibe Sho, who wrote the new single, is a composer who has also worked on Hello! Project-related releases, which explains why the song’s style resembles that scene. The claim in the thread that “permission was obtained from Up-Front” comes from a single poster’s comment, not an official announcement, so it should be noted that this hasn’t been confirmed as fact. Opinions within the thread were also divided over the view count of content featuring member Nihei, suggesting that the group’s name recognition and the evaluation of their actual output don’t necessarily line up.

  • Goto Hana Says ‘Cockroaches Outlive Humans, So I’m Their Descendant’ — Fans React

On September 26, 2026, ANGERME’s Goto Hana said during the MC segment of a concert in Ise, Mie Prefecture: “The G in ANGERME is Goto’s G, but it’s also the G in gokiburi (cockroach) — and since cockroaches have lived longer than humans, I’m a descendant of cockroaches too.” The remark quickly hit the 5ch Hello! Project board, sparking laughs and a new nickname, “Gokijurumu,” while also drawing puzzled reactions given that a thread titled “The Face of Someone Who’d Overcome Something” had been posted just before it. The thread ended up split between people enjoying it as a pure gag and others voicing worry or suspicion over the out-of-character remark.

Who even pays attention to what ANGERME's G stands for

    Background and Talking Points

ANGERME is an idol group under the Hello! Project umbrella, and matching each letter of the group’s name to a member’s initial has long been a running bit among fans — Goto’s comment is an extension of that tradition. The claim that cockroaches’ ancestors predate the emergence of humans by a wide margin isn’t actually wrong as a piece of evolutionary trivia, but bringing it up during an MC segment struck some as “out of character” for her. Reactions in the thread split between those simply enjoying it as wordplay and those who, recalling an earlier thread titled “The Face of Someone Who’d Overcome Something” (>>5), read the shift in her tone with concern or suspicion. Some comments in the latter camp made baseless assumptions about her physical or mental state, and such unsubstantiated claims have been excluded from this article.

  • Court Orders WECARS to Pay Damages Over Car That Failed Inspection Standards — 5ch: ‘Just Changed the Sign, Same Old Inside’

WECARS, a used-car dealership in Saijo, Ehime Prefecture that took over the business of the former Bigmotor, has been found to have sold a customer a used car that didn’t meet vehicle inspection (shaken) standards. On July 30, the Saijo Branch of the Matsuyama District Court ruled that “the seller has an obligation to deliver a vehicle that passes inspection,” finding WECARS in breach of contract and ordering it to pay 270,000 yen. The contract was reportedly signed just two months after the business changeover. On 5ch, many pointed out that even though the parent company changed to one affiliated with Itochu Corporation, the staff and culture on the ground haven’t changed, with opinions divided over the significance of the ruling and whether the damages amount was appropriate.

Background and Key Points of This Story

WECARS is said to have been formed when Itochu Corporation and others took over the business of the former Bigmotor, whose management collapsed amid the insurance fraud scandal. This ruling recognized a basic breach of contract — that a seller is obligated to deliver a vehicle that meets inspection standards — and the fact that it happened just two months after the business changeover has drawn particular attention. On 5ch, some speculated that the 270,000 yen payment order corresponds to the cost of fitting a genuine replacement muffler, suggesting it may be a different kind of figure from the 2.9 million yen damages claim that also drew attention elsewhere. The central debate centered on the argument that “fraud will keep repeating unless the staff and culture on the ground change, no matter how much the parent company or the sign out front changes,” with opinions split between those welcoming the ruling and those questioning Itochu’s response and accountability.

  • Over 3,000 Food Items to Get Pricier Starting in October — Beer Tax Cut, ‘¥1.06 Million Wall’ Abolished

Starting in October, prices on more than 3,000 food and beverage items will rise, while beer gets a tax cut and heated tobacco products get a tax hike as part of revisions to the liquor tax law. That same month, the social insurance “¥1.06 million wall” will also be abolished — a bundle of household-affecting changes all landing at once. On 5ch, opinions split between blaming the government’s economic policy for the price hikes and pointing to structural factors like wages and interest rates, with some suspecting opportunistic price gouging and others defending the increases as justified by soaring raw material costs.

    Re: #1
If wages just went up, rising prices wouldn't be a problem at all.

The reason real wages aren't rising at companies serving Japan's domestic market is that more and more people now depend on social security (taxes) for their livelihood.

When you hand money to people like pensioners or welfare recipients who rely on social security and don't grow their income through economic activity, they try to stretch that money by buying the cheapest goods available.

Trading companies then chase that demand by importing cheaper substitutes from third countries, and the Japanese market fills up with cheaper goods.

Domestic-facing manufacturers respond to that demand by holding down employee wages instead of passing on the rising cost of imported raw materials.

For Japan to raise real wages, the only way is to cut pensions and welfare payments for people under 80 and get those who are healthy enough to work, but aren't, actually working.

Do that and a wave of garbage companies would go bankrupt in a short span, flooding the streets with the unemployed. The ruling party is too scared of a drop in approval ratings to pull that trigger, so instead we get these slow, creeping raises.

On the timing and mechanism of liquor tax:

Domestic alcohol: taxed when it leaves the manufacturing site — a factory or brewery (at the point of shipment).
Imported alcohol: taxed when it's cleared out of a customs bonded area.

Who actually pays: the maker (manufacturer) or the importer — retailers and consumers don't pay the government directly.

    It's a tax on businesses.
    Wait a second…
Isn't that basically the same as the consumption tax, which is really just a sales tax wearing a fake name???

It's not just labor costs — food, energy, benefits, and social insurance are all shooting up too, for reasons beyond plain inflation, so it's probably not that simple, is it? If companies actually believed the outlook ten years from now looked bright, maybe the big players would do it too.

Coffee and chocolate are up at a level that's no joke.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

The beer tax cut marks the final stage of a three-phase revision to the liquor tax law that began in 2020 (unifying tax rates across beer-type beverages) — it isn’t a one-off favor from the current government. Since liquor tax is levied on manufacturers and importers rather than retailers or consumers, how much of that cut or hike actually gets passed on to shelf prices depends on each company’s own pricing strategy, as commenters in the thread pointed out. The abolition of the “¥1.06 million wall” is likewise based on pension system reforms passed in 2025 — a separate institutional change that simply happens to land in the same October as this wave of price hikes. Opinion in the thread split between those pinning the price hikes mainly on government and LDP policy and those pointing to structural factors like wages and interest rates, with voices suspecting opportunistic gouging coexisting alongside those defending the hikes as justified by soaring raw material and energy costs. The number of items and the tax mechanism follow the original source article as reported; it’s worth noting that the validity of any individual price increase hasn’t been rigorously verified here.
