  • ‘Slurred Speech’: Fans Worry Over Dan Mitsu’s Drastic Weight Loss — But She’s Eager to Try YouTube

Dan Mitsu (45) opened up about her current situation in an interview with Josei Jishin, revealing she’s eager to appear on YouTube if the right show comes along. On the 5channel “Geinou/Sports News+” thread reacting to the article, commenters revisited long-standing concerns about her slurred speech and noticeably thinner appearance, now visible again on video, sparking a wave of worried comments. Discussion touched on the recent deaths of her grandmother and beloved cat, as well as the state of her narration work on a regular TV program, while opinions split between fears of a possible eating disorder and speculation that her health had changed around the time of her marriage.

She's already up there in age, so slurred speech doesn't even seem that out of place.

What do you mean slurred speech at 45 lol
    Way too early for that

Is this going to change her narration on Rokkaku Seiji's 'Nomitetsu' (a TV show about train trips centered on drinking)?

    > Kneaded, steamed, grilled — turned into something like a chikuwa (tube-shaped fish cake). And then sold off cheap. I thought that was fine, honestly. Because I'd already gotten that dirty.

    That's the scary part.

Her narration on 'Nomitetsu Tabi' was rough at times before — I thought it had gotten better lately though

She was on 'Barairo Dandy,' but she kept getting thinner and thinner after she started keeping a cat

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

In recent years, Dan Mitsu has repeatedly drawn attention for changes in her voice, particularly in her narration work for TV Asahi’s “Rokkaku Seiji no Nomitetsu Honsen: Nihon Tabi.” Her latest interview with Josei Jishin marks her responding in her own words to those health concerns, but the thread also featured baseless rumors of drug use, insinuations aimed at her husband, manga artist Seino Toru, and unconfirmed gossip about other celebrities’ health — none of which this article treats as established fact. It’s worth noting that conditions like an eating disorder or stress-related symptoms can’t be confirmed from outside without her own account, and it would be misleading to diagnose anything based on appearance alone in a video. As for her narration, opinions in the thread are split between “she’s recovered” and “it’s still rough” depending on the episode, so it’s not accurate to say her condition has been on a steady decline.

  • ANGERME’s ‘Kamiko’ Rushes Home in a Hurry? 5ch: ‘Get back already — the ship’s sinking!’

A sighting report on 5ch suggests that “Kamiko,” associated with Hello! Project group ANGERME, made an emergency return to Japan from her overseas study trip. A post claiming she showed up at a concert venue sparked wide-ranging discussion — from the real purpose of her study abroad and whether her English is actually as good as claimed, to how her time overseas affected the group’s popularity. Comments like “Get back already, the ship’s sinking” voiced real worry about the group’s current state, showing just how invested fans are.

Guess Ise can finally get back to being 'Taira'
I think there's still room to grow if she focuses purely on performance, so go for it.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

It’s worth noting that “Kamiko’s” emergency return was never officially announced by her or her agency — it’s fan speculation based on a sighting at a concert venue. In the thread, opinions split over the purpose and outcome of her study abroad: some praised her English ability, while others questioned whether she can actually hold a conversation. Views also diverged on how her media exposure during the study-abroad period affected the group’s popularity, with several posts openly questioning the point of the trip altogether. At the same time, plenty of comments expressed concern for the group’s current state and welcomed the idea of her return, underscoring just how closely fans are following ANGERME’s activities. Since this is all based on a sighting report and nothing more, it should not be taken as confirmed fact.

  • Hana Goto’s Fan Story-Viewing Sparks Buzz on 5ch: “Feels Like Her Whole Selling Point”

Hello! Project idol Hana Goto has been found to have viewed multiple fans’ Instagram Stories, sparking discussion on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. Since viewing a Story leaves a “footprint” that the poster can see, fans have been reporting one after another that “she saw mine.” In the thread, some reacted with genuine delight, while others took a cooler view, saying things like “she’s getting too close, it cheapens her image” or “isn’t that a bit self-absorbed?” — opinions were split. There were also posts claiming other members such as Ise, Irie, Kawana, and Tamenaga have had similar viewing habits go viral before, with some comparing the gap between the Showa-era idol image and the SNS-era idol image.

Are you dumb? Nobody checks out fans from their secret account.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

“Ōkami” (literally “wolf”) is 5ch slang for the Hello! Project discussion boards, where posters have a culture of reading into members’ behavior using SNS viewing activity and “footprints” as “evidence.” Since viewing an Instagram Story leaves a footprint visible to the poster, this time it was confirmed — through posts from the member herself and those around her — that Hana Goto had viewed multiple fans’ Stories, sparking discussion. In the thread, reactions were split between those happy to have been noticed and those who felt the closeness with fans came across as cheap, with some drawing a comparison to the gap between the Showa-era idol image and the SNS-driven Reiwa-era idol image. Other members such as Ise, Irie, Kawana, and Tamenaga are also said to have had their viewing history become a topic before, suggesting that how Hello! Project members handle distance with fans has become something of a broader talking point across the group. It’s worth noting that the fact she “viewed” the Stories is only what can be inferred from her own posts and actions — it doesn’t confirm her intent or the full truth behind it.

  • Man Converts to Islam to Marry the Woman He Loves — 5ch: ‘That Kind of Devotion Is Scary’

An article from the Tokyo Shimbun’s “Is Marriage an Impossible Game?” series (International Edition), featuring a man who converted to Islam in order to get married, was published on September 29, 2026, and sparked discussion on 5ch’s News Speed+ board. Since the article is limited to paying subscribers, few posters had read the full text, and reactions were largely based on just the headline and summary. Some in the thread saw it as a natural consequence of the shrinking pool of Japanese marriage partners driving more international marriages, while others questioned the story’s credibility, arguing that given the difficulty of getting a father’s permission under Islamic custom, the account was likely mostly fabricated. The discussion also branched into side topics on religious dietary rules, including whether the fasting was really observed and comparisons with Japan’s own pre-Meiji-era taboos on eating meat.

This might be what marriage ends up looking like as the pool of Japanese partners keeps shrinking.
    101AnonymousSep 29, 2026 23:28
    Re: #6
That's happening regardless of whether the pool shrinks. Eldest sons on farms have long had basically only Southeast Asia to look for partners in, and it's much the same for SDF (Self-Defense Forces) members marrying Chinese nationals. On top of that, the acceptable age gap in marriages has narrowed every year — a 5-year difference is now considered pretty unusual — and having comparable income has become the norm too.

In other words, the criteria have narrowed and the pool of eligible partners has shrunk. The only solution left is foreigners.

A traditional wild boar hot pot recipe passed down for generations in Ryōgoku. Boar hot pot is known for its deep crimson lean meat and white fat, which is why it's also called "botan-nabe" (peony hot pot) after that coloring. The tastiest cut is the fatty belly meat, which gets richer the longer it simmers. Also be sure to try the venison hot pot, prized for its lean, fine-grained meat, and the bear meat hot pot, with its slightly dark red flesh richly marbled with fat.

If it doesn't bother anyone, do whatever you want — but in practice they do try to proselytize, and Muslims in particular will insist on doing things the Islamic way no matter what. Islam especially loads even ordinary believers with as many rules as a Buddhist monk who's taken vows.

Basically, he used "God" as a tool to satisfy his own desires, right? If God really did exist, monotheists who exploit God to fulfill their own desires would definitely be made to suffer thousands of deaths and be burned to ash for it.

Is marriage really just "desire" though? For any living creature, leaving offspring is instinct — the one and only purpose. "God" is nothing more than a story humans made up.

Feminists have been spouting nonsense lately like "Watch out, there are men coming from the West and Korea who think Japanese women are easy targets because they're submissive!" — but in a way, Japanese men going after Muslim women is kind of the same thing.
    110AnonymousSep 29, 2026 23:43
    Re: #103
Basically, in Islam fathers hold a lot of power — they often won't even let their daughter show her face outside the hijab to a man, let alone allow marriage to a non-Muslim man from a polytheistic country like Japan. So the story in Re: #1 is basically fake.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

The Tokyo Shimbun’s “Is Marriage an Impossible Game?” International Edition is a six-part series, and this installment is the fourth. Since the full text is limited to paying subscribers, 5ch users could only see the headline and summary, and it’s worth noting that much of the thread’s reaction was speculation built on that limited information. Discussions of marriage-hunting often start from the premise that “marriage between Japanese people is becoming difficult,” but the thread’s observations that farming heirs and Self-Defense Force members’ spouses are often foreign nationals reflect a trend that predates the current low birthrate and aging population and has been seen in certain regions and occupations for some time — it isn’t unique to this article. There were also comments suggesting that under Islamic marriage rules, “women can only marry Muslims, but men can marry women of any religion” — but this actually refers to the practice of requiring a spouse to convert upon marriage, and it’s easy to misread this as a straightforward prediction about religious population growth or decline, which it isn’t.

  • Old iPhones Are “Incredibly Dangerous,” Says Appliance-Obsessed Comedian — 5ch: “Your Router Would Get Hacked First”

Kajigaya Takuya, known as a “home-appliance comedian,” pointed out on Chihara Junior’s YouTube show that it’s “dangerous” for fellow comedian Zabungle Kato to keep using his iPhone 8. His reasoning: the rise of AI has made it much easier to hijack devices. When the story was reposted to 5ch’s Geino/Sports News+ board, comments piled up arguing that routers and how people handle their personal data are bigger problems than device hijacking, and that simply replacing the battery is enough to keep an old phone going without worry. The thread ended up split between people who felt the danger itself was never spelled out concretely, and those defending Kato, saying he has a point.

Kajigaya Takuya, the talent known as a “home-appliance comedian,” appeared on the official YouTube channel “Chihara Junior YouTube,” updated on the night of the 28th. He shared his view that continuing to use an old version of iPhone is “dangerous.”

This episode featured a barbecue hosted around comedian Chihara Junior. Comedian Zabungle Kato, invited to the get-together, was asked point-blank in the flow of conversation what he thought about the iPhone 8 he’d been using for years — “What do you think?”

Kato said, “I love the iPhone, but honestly it does everything I need — it’s plenty (functionally),” and “I’m not really having any problems.” Hearing this, Kajigaya commented, “Just going by first impressions, that’s dangerous.”

Right now it's an AI that's busy rummaging through secondhand bookstores,
so it probably hasn't gotten around to iPhones yet, has it?

Background and Key Points of This Debate

iPhone security doesn’t really degrade because of the hardware’s age itself — it drops off sharply once the device stops receiving OS updates. The iPhone 8 only supports up to iOS 16, and has gone without subsequent vulnerability patches ever since. Kajigaya Takuya’s comment appears to have this “end of support” issue in mind, but on the thread, the phrase “AI could hijack it” came across as vague, giving the impression that alarm spread on its own without any technical backing. Reactions split depending on whether people treated the hijacking risk as genuine harm, or saw “more realistic entry points” — like router vulnerabilities or being lured to scam sites — as the bigger threat, with the latter view being more dominant on 5ch. Another point of disagreement was that with an older model like the iPhone 8, if it’s used for a limited purpose such as calls only or music only, actual exposure of personal information is minimal — meaning people’s baseline assumptions about the level of risk differed from person to person.

*This article is compiled as excerpts and a summary from the 5ch (Geino/Sports News+) thread “Appliance-obsessed comedian: old iPhones are “incredibly dangerous,” “switch right away” — with the rise of AI, “they’re easy to hijack now”.”

  • Chunichi’s Next-Manager Candidates: The ‘Four Heavenly Kings’ Are Set — 5ch Roars ‘YEEEAAAHHH’

The Chunichi Dragons’ managerial change has become a hot topic, and on 5ch’s “Live News Flash” board, four names have emerged as candidates to take over: Hirokazu Ibata, Takeshi Yamasaki, Akihiro Yano, and Kazuyoshi Tatsunami. Ibata is said to have little enthusiasm for the job given his standing after the WBC and his relationship with the team, while Yamasaki’s candidacy is overshadowed by his son’s fraud case. Yano reportedly once turned down a head-coach offer from Chunichi in the past, prioritizing his status as a Hanshin Tigers alum instead. Tatsunami, meanwhile, has emerged as the frontrunner thanks to strong support from the Tokai business community and fans. The thread agreed on one point: factors other than win-loss record are driving the selection.

    1AnonymousSep 29, 2026 22:44
    Hirokazu Ibata
    Takeshi Yamasaki
    Akihiro Yano
    2AnonymousSep 29, 2026 22:44

    ・Hirokazu Ibata

He once politely turned down a coaching offer from a great manager
He's probably the type who doesn't want the short straw of managing a perennial also-ran team
He may also have soured on managing altogether after the WBC blunder, so surprisingly, he's not looking like a strong bet for the next skipper job
    10AnonymousSep 29, 2026 22:45
    Re: #2
Calling it a "blunder" is harsh — from the quarterfinals on, it was a boss rush (back-to-back tough opponents) with a .500 record
It's not like they got knocked out in the group stage
    3AnonymousSep 29, 2026 22:44

    ・Takeshi Yamasaki

Among current Chunichi alumni, he's the only one who's actually eager to become manager
But a few months ago his son was arrested for fraud, and it looks like his own family dragged him out of the running for the next manager job
    4AnonymousSep 29, 2026 22:44

    ・Akihiro Yano

When manager Inoue was putting his staff together, he reportedly tried to bring Yano on as head coach, but it never happened because Yano prioritized his status as a "Hanshin alum" and "former Hanshin manager"
There's no reason for him to tarnish his résumé managing a perennial also-ran team and snuff out his own shot at one day returning as Hanshin manager
So it has to be said the odds of him ever becoming Chunichi's manager are vanishingly slim
    5AnonymousSep 29, 2026 22:44

    ・Kazuyoshi Tatsunami

A Chunichi alum with overwhelming support from the Tokai and Nagoya business community
Since he became manager, the team's sponsorship revenue has doubled
On top of his strong draw at the gate, his merchandise — jerseys and everything else — sells extremely well
From the front office's perspective, he's the man they most want in the manager's chair, and he himself is fired up for a comeback
It's fair to call him the clear frontrunner for the next Chunichi manager job

It starts from the premise that the Tokai media, dominated by the Chunichi Shimbun newspaper, keeps up its daily 'brainwashing' coverage
So regardless of on-field results, the team works hard at marketing itself as an experiential attraction
Combined with today's consumer appetite for 'experiences,' the Dragons end up being an easy default choice

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Chunichi is reportedly moving into earnest search mode for a successor to manager Kazuki Inoue’s regime. It’s worth noting that the “Four Heavenly Kings” label is just a convenient shorthand coined by the 5ch thread itself, not an official team announcement. All four names floated are well-known Chunichi alumni, but their circumstances couldn’t be more different. Ibata’s situation is shaped by his standing as a former Samurai Japan manager; Yano’s by his background as a Hanshin alum and former Hanshin manager; Yamasaki’s by his son’s arrest; and Tatsunami’s by his contribution to team revenue despite a poor on-field record during his tenure — in each case, factors beyond wins and losses are what’s really driving the ranking. The thread’s disagreement centered less on managerial aptitude and more on whether each man would actually want the job and whether it would benefit team finances — the strong push for Tatsunami reflects the front office’s stake in merchandise and ticket sales across the Tokai region. The post nominating Shigeru Sugishita was a joke referencing a deceased figure, not a serious candidate suggestion.

  • Toys “R” Us to Exit Japan as Don Quijote Buys Up All 150 Domestic Stores

Toy retail giant Toys “R” Us has decided to withdraw from store operations in Japan, it has emerged. The company operates roughly 150 stores nationwide, but has posted consecutive net losses in recent years, and the operator of discount chain “Don Quijote” is expected to acquire the business. The first Japanese store opened in 1991, and the U.S. parent company went bankrupt in 2017. On 5ch, users pointed to the falling birthrate and the growth of online shopping as contributing factors, with comments ranging from “where do kids even buy toys nowadays?” to “what will the selection look like if it gets converted into a Don Quijote?” Many posts also expressed nostalgia for toy store chains that have already closed.

It emerged on the 29th that toy retail giant Toys “R” Us plans to withdraw from operating stores in Japan. The company currently has about 150 stores nationwide, and according to sources, the operator of discount chain “Don Quijote” will acquire the business. According to official gazette filings, Toys “R” Us Japan has posted consecutive net losses in recent years, thought to be the result of the falling birthrate and the growth of online shopping.

Toys “R” Us’s first store in Japan opened in 1991. The U.S. company, founded in 1948, went bankrupt in 2017. In Japan, Toys “R” Us Japan (headquartered in Kawasaki) had continued operating the business. According to its website, the company employs 6,000 people in Japan, including part-time staff.

Hasn't that place got fewer toys and turned more into a character-goods shop?

    Background and Points of Debate

Since opening its first store in 1991, Toys “R” Us Japan has been a leading force in domestic toy retail, but foot traffic has thinned amid the falling birthrate and the spread of online shopping, with official filings reportedly showing continued losses. The U.S. parent company went bankrupt in 2017, and this “withdrawal from Japan” is being seen as an extension of that same trend. The operator of Don Quijote, the buyer in this deal, has a track record of acquiring struggling retail chains and converting them into formats like “MEGA Don Quijote,” and many thread posters predicted a similar conversion this time. On the other hand, some argued the main cause isn’t the falling birthrate itself but a shift in shopping habits toward buying online in the first place, and opinion was split over which factor to blame. Note that the acquisition target is the operating company, and it remains unclear at this stage whether all 150 stores will be converted to the Don Quijote format.

  • “Bayside Shakedown” Holds #1 in Week 2, Box Office Tops ¥2.1 Billion — 5ch: “¥2 Billion Is a Huge Success”

“Bayside Shakedown” (Odoru Daisōsasen), the latest film in the Yuji Oda-starring franchise, subtitled “N.E.W. Run Through the Metropolis,” has held onto the #1 spot at the Japanese box office for a second straight week. Over the weekend it drew roughly 243,000 moviegoers and earned about ¥360 million, bringing its cumulative total to 1.49 million admissions and over ¥2.1 billion in box office revenue. On 5ch, opinion is split over the film’s TV-drama-like feel, with some praising it as a “return to the series’ roots” and others arguing it’s “barely worth seeing on the big screen.” The thread also debated whether the film can realistically reach ¥5 billion, how Oda’s career has evolved, and the age range of the cast.

[Box office] “Bayside Shakedown” latest film holds #1 in second week, tops ¥2.1 billion

According to box office rankings for September 25–27 released on September 28 (compiled by Kogyo Tsushinsha), the latest theatrical installment of the Yuji Oda-starring “Bayside Shakedown” series, “Bayside Shakedown N.E.W. Run Through the Metropolis” (directed by Katsuyuki Motohiro), took the top spot for a second consecutive week.

Over the three-day weekend, the film drew approximately 243,000 moviegoers and earned about ¥360 million. Cumulatively, it has now surpassed 1.49 million admissions and ¥2.1 billion in box office revenue.

    Background and Talking Points

“Bayside Shakedown” is a franchise that dates back to its 1997 TV drama debut and has racked up hit after hit at the box office in its film incarnations; this latest release marks the series’ first new film in several years. In recent years, anime titles have dominated the top of Japan’s box office charts, and as reflected in the thread’s talk of a “live-action only” ranking, live-action films are increasingly discussed in a separate bracket of their own. The ¥2.1 billion figure cited here is only a preliminary tally as of September 28, and the final box office total will depend on how admissions hold up going forward. Opinion in the thread is split between those who see the film’s close resemblance to the TV series as a positive “return to form” and those who feel it doesn’t have the scale to justify a theatrical release — a divide that has less to do with the film’s actual quality than with how much scale viewers expected from a theatrical entry in the first place.

  • Bus Mix-Up Sends Pakistan and South Korea to Wrong Venues — Volleyball Match Delayed 30 Minutes, Korea Misses Practice

At the Asian Games underway in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, a bus mix-up occurred before a men’s volleyball match. The bus meant to carry the Pakistani delegation to the venue was instead directed to the South Korean team, while South Korea’s bus crossed paths with the one meant for the practice venue. As a result, South Korea couldn’t hold pre-match practice and was taken straight to the venue, delaying the match’s start by about 30 minutes. The organizing committee apologized, calling it “a simple mistake,” but on 5channel opinion split over whether this was mere carelessness or something more deliberate, given a string of incidents at the same Games that have gone against South Korea — fueling doubts about the operation itself.

Meanwhile, there are contractors raking in huge profits off the vested interests.

Background and Key Points of This Story

At this year’s Nagoya Asian Games, delegations are ferried to venues on dedicated buses arranged by the organizing committee. In this case, the bus meant for Pakistan was directed to South Korea’s team instead, while South Korea — who should have been headed to the practice venue — was taken straight to the match venue, delaying the start by about 30 minutes. The organizing committee called it “a simple mistake,” but thread posters pointed to a string of other mishaps involving South Korea at the same Games (such as the back-and-forth over the 4x100m relay ruling) and split over whether this reflects deliberate targeting or just operational incompetence. In reality this looks more like repeated human error, and neither the thread nor the source article offers any evidence that a specific country was being deliberately singled out. Some criticism was also aimed at the structure of outsourcing operations to outside agencies, though that too remains speculation.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5channel (Hayabusa Geino/Sports Express+) thread “[Asian Games] Bus mix-up sends Pakistan and South Korea to wrong venues, volleyball match delayed 30 minutes, Korea unable to practice… Organizing committee apologizes, calls it “a simple mistake”“.

  • ANA Walks Back Part of Its Elite Card Lounge Crackdown — 5ch: “3 Million Yen a Year? Cheap. Good Riddance to the Expense-Account Crowd”

On September 29, ANA Holdings announced a partial revision to its “tightening” policy for the “ANA Super Flyers Card” (SFC), a credit card for elite members, which had restricted airport lounge access to members spending 3 million yen or more per year on the card. Under the April announcement, members who fell short of the 3 million yen threshold were to be barred from lounges entirely, sparking criticism on social media that the change amounted to a “downgrade.” In this revision, the 3 million yen line itself remains unchanged, but members below that threshold will now be able to use domestic lounges during off-peak hours, as well as international lounges at Haneda, Narita, and Honolulu, with a reservation system planned for the future. On 5ch, opinions were divided over whether the 3 million yen threshold is a fair measure of a “valuable customer,” and whether those who hit it can really be called elite spenders.

Regarding the “ANA Super Flyers Card (SFC),” a credit card for elite members of All Nippon Airways, parent company ANA Holdings (HD) announced on the 29th a set of revisions to the new system set to launch in April 2028. On the “tightening” of airport lounge access — previously limited to members spending 3 million yen or more per year — members below that threshold, who had been barred outright, will now be allowed partial access under certain conditions.

In April, ANA HD announced that for the SFC, aimed at frequent flyers, benefits would be split into two tiers based on whether annual card spending crossed the 3 million yen line. Under the change, members whose annual card spending fell short of 3 million yen would lose airport lounge access entirely. Since members had previously been able to keep using lounges simply by paying the annual fee, the change drew a wave of criticism, with some on social media calling it a “downgrade.”

According to the revision announced on the 29th, the 3 million yen annual spending threshold remains in place. However, whereas members below that line had previously been barred from lounges entirely, they will now be able to use domestic lounges during non-congested periods. A “reservation system” is also planned for the future to expand access further. For international flights, access will be granted at the Haneda, Narita, and Honolulu airport lounges. Members who spend 3 million yen or more annually will continue to have full lounge access as before.

    6AnonymousSep 29, 2026 14:38
Here's probably what's really going on behind the scenes:

Complaints come from lounge users who don't like the company they're keeping in there.
It's practically standard practice to drop the name of someone who qualifies and say "I'm meeting them here" just to get in.
That's how much influence the qualified members have.
So when ANA tries to tighten the requirements, they basically get told, "You sure you want to say that to us?"
    Or so the story goes.
    7AnonymousSep 29, 2026 14:39
Do you even need the lounge though?

3 million yen works out to 250k yen a month, so if you're making around 1 million a month you'd clear that easily.

    12AnonymousSep 29, 2026 15:21
Spending 3 million yen is roughly the level someone earning around 10 million yen a year could hit if they funneled all their card spending through ANA — and honestly that seems like a reasonable cutoff line.

People with decent salaries who go out of their way for ANA,
and wealthier people who hit it naturally —
both are exactly the customers ANA wants.

Just buy a ton of stuff on the card and expense it — 3 million yen is nothing.

Fine if you're self-employed, but if you're a salaried employee at any decent company you'd be issued a corporate card for that.

If they strip your Star Alliance Gold status, you lose priority boarding and priority check-in overseas too.
That's the part they're glossing over — domestic priority boarding/check-in barely matters anyway to begin with.

The domestic lounge crowding problem was never really the issue; it costs ANA nothing either way, and they don't actually care about customer comfort or satisfaction.

What actually hurt was Star Alliance Gold status and the lounge fees ANA has to cover for it overseas.

    3 million yen is cheap.
I'm thrilled the expense-account salarymen are gone.
Still, breaking a promise isn't okay though.

When you factor in point returns, you'd come out ahead spending that 3 million on a different card.
There's no point paying for the pricey ANA Diners card anymore.

    I'm fine without the lounge.
I'll just grab a coffee and a sandwich at Starbucks.

I'm well-off, but if there's an LCC option I'll fly that.
I always show up at the airport at the last minute anyway, so I never use the lounge.

    ✗ "well-off" (裕福層)
✓ "wealthy/affluent" (富裕層 — the more standard term)

    ✗ LLC
✓ LCC (you meant low-cost carrier, not limited liability company)

LLC means "limited liability company," lol

    > Annual card spending of 3 million yen

Is that about what someone earning 8 million a year would hit if they put all their spending on the card?
I'm barely scraping by on about 1 million a year just eating, sleeping, and existing…

    Re: #31
If that's net taxable income, sure, it's doable — but if it's gross annual salary, you'd basically have to be living for the lounge to pull it off.
You normally can't put your car or rent on a card, and it'd mean putting literally nothing toward savings or investments — tough conditions.
    32AnonymousSep 29, 2026 23:50
Other cards have their own perks too.
Seems crazy to funnel every single payment through this one card just for airport lounge access.

For people spending under 1 million a year, what are they even flying to as SFC members using the lounge?
In my case, there's a Shinkansen station nearby, so going all the way to the airport actually takes longer and is a hassle.
I feel like flying is really only for trips to Hokkaido or Okinawa?

I go abroad a few times a year, and do domestic business trips more than 10 times a year.
I barely even use my ANA card though.
    38AnonymousSep 30, 2026 02:20
Even if you're wealthy, spending 3 million yen isn't easy.
There's a limit to how much you can actually buy and consume.
    42AnonymousSep 30, 2026 03:29
    Re: #38
If you mainly pay by card for everything, you'd hit that easily.
The real question is whether you want to funnel it all through ANA specifically.
    39AnonymousSep 30, 2026 02:24
When the new iPhone drops, just rush out and buy like 10 of them and you'll clear 3 million yen easy.
Bring them unopened to one of those Chinese resale shops and you'll pocket about 100,000 yen in spending money.
Go for the Pro or Pro Max, the smaller storage ones.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

The SFC (Super Flyers Card) has long been known as a “lifetime” perk: once you hit a certain flight-boarding threshold, you could keep using airport lounges indefinitely just by paying the annual fee. In April this year, ANA HD abruptly introduced a new standard — 3 million yen in annual card spending — under which members who fell short would lose lounge access entirely. That sparked backlash as a “downgrade,” and the September 29 announcement partially walks that back. However, the 3 million yen line itself remains in place; what’s changed is only a loosening of the rules to allow conditional access for members below that threshold. It hasn’t reverted to how things were before. The debate on the thread centered on whether 3 million yen is really a fair yardstick for a “valuable customer.” Since the difficulty of hitting that threshold varies hugely by income and occupation, opinions split between those who see qualifying members as genuinely wealthy and those who see them as simply having funneled their spending through ANA. It’s also worth noting that “the outright ban was eased” is easily mistaken for “things went back to normal” — the two are not the same.
