Miyasako Hiroyuki Says He’s Hooked on ‘Suiyōbi no Downtown’ — Fans Split on Whether He Should Actually Be On It

The story

Hiroyuki Miyasako, formerly of the comedy duo Ameagari Kesshitai, revealed on October 27 during a YouTube talk project with Atsuhiko Nakata that “I watch ‘Suiyōbi no Downtown’ religiously,” letting slip some longing for a TV appearance as he added, “I wonder what it’d be like if I were on it.” Since leaving Yoshimoto Kogyo, Miyasako has made YouTube streaming his main platform, but the comment was still picked up by 5ch’s Geisoku Sokuho+ board. Some posters argued he’d “have a better shot at appearing than Matsumoto Hitoshi,” while harsher takes calling him “a has-been” or “a boring panelist” were just as prominent — and the discussion spread well beyond Miyasako himself, into what it means to be a comedian in the YouTube era and how the entertainment industry has changed since Matsumoto disappeared from television.

What show is Hiroyuki Miyasako “watching religiously”? “I wonder what it’d be like if I were on it”

Honestly, watching the Osaka night-view channel on YouTube beats watching the Peace-kun livestream from Omiya Park any day.
4AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:35
He's completely become a has-been at this point.
5AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:35
That's because my wife would absolutely lose it at me!
6AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:35
He's got a better shot at appearing than Matsumoto, at least.
26AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:45
Re: #6
Sure, he's more talented than Matsumoto, but is he still that hung up on staying in showbiz?
7AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:36
Thanks to the internet, Miyasako's managed to dodge turning into a 'whatever happened to that guy' case.
11AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:39
Re: #7
More like YouTube than 'the internet' in general.

These days comedians have no excuse — with YouTube around, they can put out content and earn money on their own, as much as they want.

Re: #7
He already has.
8AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:36
He probably would've gotten boring anyway.
14AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:39
Re: #8
Fujimon's pulling it off well, but I'd kind of like to see if Miyasako could do the same — I bet he'd screw it up.
9AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:37
Apparently he occasionally invites Suiyōbi no Downtown-adjacent comedians like Minamikawa, Takano, and Shinichi onto his YouTube channel just to take his mind off things lol
12AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:39
Has Miyasako even been on TV? You mean like one of those shows where some random parent with their kid shows up in the background during the evening weather forecast?
13AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:39
No, no, that's not it! I'm saying I really like Hikaru, y'know!
16AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:40
Even if Miyasako got on TV without causing any scandal, I think he'd just end up being a panelist who says boring stuff and that's it — don't you?
18AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:40
Does he want to be on the new season of 'ER 24 Hours' too?
19AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:41
Anyway —

what the last few years have taught us is at least this much:

neither this guy nor Matsumoto need to be on TV.
58AnonymousOct 27, 2026 23:18
Re: #19
Honestly, nobody's "necessary" for TV in the first place lol
21AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:43
It's about time for a prank show titled 'Miyasako Returns to Network TV!' If I were running Miyasako's PR, I'd totally pull it off — stream his frustrated, crushed face live across the internet!
62AnonymousOct 27, 2026 23:27
Re: #21
He's got nothing but time on his hands, so I'd want them to spend at least a year setting the prank up.
23AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:45
TV kept running just fine even after Kamioka and Shinsuke were gone — he shouldn't have gotten so full of himself.
25AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:45
Wait, who is this guy again…

the 'Wasshoi!' guy?
72AnonymousOct 27, 2026 23:44
Re: #25
Lol that's dumb — but then again, if you're not into comedy, I guess that could actually happen.
27AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:46
He's living in a dream world.
Well, I guess that's a kind of happiness in its own way.
28AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:47
Sorry, senpai, but this is a TV show, y'know!
33AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:50
Because he's got more talent than Matsumoto Hitoshi.
36AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:52
Re: #33
Got it.
Then go make a movie.
Shinagawa's the only one at Yoshimoto
who's actually earned the right to say that.
43AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:56
Miyasako hates being teased, so a show like Suiyōbi no Downtown seems like exactly what he'd dread most — no way he'd want the Kurochan or Tsuda treatment, right? Or does he want to come on as a commentator instead?
49AnonymousOct 27, 2026 23:01
Re: #43
That's exactly the kind of guy he is.
This is the guy who wouldn't bungee jump
even after Ega-chan set it up
specifically for him.
Ega-chan even said he'd jump together with him,
and he still wouldn't jump.
Normally, if Ega-chan went that far for you,
you'd be moved by it —
even if you hated it, you'd at least hesitate.
But no, he went straight into refusal mode.
It's unthinkable, honestly unbelievable.
That's the moment Miyasako was finished —
as a comedian, and as a Japanese person.

Funny how Nakata had a chance to appear via photo on Suiyōbi no Downtown but said no to it lol

Re: #46
Still better than 'Talent U,' who won't even allow impressions of himself these days.
70AnonymousOct 27, 2026 23:42
Re: #46
Back then he was saying stuff like, "Isn't showing your face kind of risky? Going forward I'm going to stop showing my face in videos, for privacy reasons" — and the moment Okada Toshio called him out with "Nakata's an idiot, do that and you're done for," he quietly reversed course. That NG request dates from right around that period. Now he says, "Feel free to use my photo, no problem at all."

If you're not willing to get roasted the way Watabe does, it's just not going to work.
77AnonymousOct 27, 2026 23:53
Re: #57
Watabe can still pull off the punching-bag role, but these two have this oddly inflated pride that makes even that impossible, so there's no use for them.
67AnonymousOct 27, 2026 23:30
Never thought Miyasako would end up like this.
He was genuinely skilled, and after his breakout on Ametalk I figured he was set for life.
Yoshimoto completely blew it.
Then on top of that, even Matsumoto vanished, taking with him the last powerhouse comedian who could really run a show.
And now it's Ariyoshi's era.

Re: #67
I think it's the comedians who messed up, honestly.
Once everyone found out the world keeps turning without them, there was no going back.

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

Hiroyuki Miyasako left Yoshimoto Kogyo in the wake of the 2019 “underground dealings” scandal, and has since made YouTube his main platform. His latest comment wasn’t a declaration of a TV comeback — it was nothing more than a passing remark imagining what it would be like if he appeared on “Suiyōbi no Downtown” while watching it. Where thread opinion split was over whether it even makes sense for a comedian who’s built a career on YouTube to return to network TV: some argued “there’s no excuse now that YouTube exists,” while plenty of others pointed out how hard it would be for him to craft a workable on-air persona if he actually appeared. Several posts also drew a parallel with how Matsumoto Hitoshi vanished from television, though the reasons behind each man’s hiatus are fundamentally different, and the two shouldn’t be treated as equivalent.
